Title: Robcina Week 2019 - Day 7: Birthday
Description: Robin didn't know when his birthday was. Not remembering anything of his past kind of made that fact an unfortunate reality. But truthfully it never bothered him much. He never saw a real to celebrate it. Lucina however did not see it the same way. She wanted to give him something special and the birthday he'd never celebrated.
"Robin, I am glad I found you!"
Robin stopped, turning around in time to see Lucina hurry towards him. She came to a stop before him, visibly short of breath. Her haste along with the tense, almost urgent expression she wore at once set off alarm bells in Robin's head. Something must have happened.
"What is it? Is there a problem. If you need something, I can-"
"Oh, no, nothing like that-" Lucina assured him, shaking her head fervently. It was then that Robin noticed Lucina had something clutched in her hands, a small parcel wrapped clumsily in brown paper and tied in string. She was fumbling with it nervously. "I just… wanted to find you before the day's end. It was vitally important that I gave you this." She bowed, extending the parsel to him. Robin saw now that she was blushing, her face visible red even from the indirect glimpse he had of it due to her still bowing
"I… I see. I thank you, Lucina, but…" Robin trailed off, no sure how to react to this. "I am afraid I don't know what the occasion is. And I'm not sure that I'm entirely deserving of…" he trailed off, shaking his head, accepting the offered gift without further protests.
"Oh, I… well, you see, just this morning I came to the sudden realization that I didn't know when your birthday was, Robin. So I inquired around only to learn that due to your amnesia, even you didn't know," Lucina explained. "And… you did so much for my past birthday, I wished greatly to return the gesture in kind. And that's when I remembered. Today is the very anniversary of the day Father discovered you in that field, is it not? So I thought then what better day than today to serve as a fine stand-in."
"Oh," Robin's expression went blank, slowly processing this. "I appreciate the thought, Lucina, but I hope you didn't feel like you had to do any of this. It's never really bothered me that I don't have a birthday the celebrate, and I certainly don't want you to feel like you have go out of your way like this for my sake."
"I know. But I wanted to nonetheless." Lucina smiled, inclining her head towards the parsel."So, please, Robin, will you open it? For me? I truly wish to know what you thought of my gift."
Nodding, Robin began to tug at the string, undoing the knot before peeling the paper away. Inside was a bundle of multi-colored fabric, which only upon unrolling it did he discover it was a long scarf with alternating gold, blue, red, and green stripes.
"I apologize it taking so close to the evening to get it to you, but it took longer than expected to knit the whole piece," Lucina explained, blushing again.
"I didn't know you could knit," Robin said, blinking at her in surprise. Painfully bright colors aside, the knitting itself was incredibly professional, with no signs of any mistakes and fine, tight weave.
"In my future it was a useful skill to have, as often by necessity we needed to fashion out garments out of whatever resources we had at our disposal," she paused, then added. "Also, I enjoy knitting. I find the activity relaxing,"
"I…" Robin blinked, surprised by the sudden tears welling in the corners of his eyes. She'd done all of this for me… made this for him. All because she wanted to… for him.
Gods, she really does love me, huh? I still don't know why she would or how I deserved her… but…
"T-Thank you, Lucina, This… it means a lot." Robin sniffed, wiping his eyes on his sleeve before wrapping the scarf around his neck. "Truly, I don't deserve your love Lucina."
"No, you do," Lucina assured him, taking a step closer and taking his hand. "You make me happy, Robin. That alone is enough."
Lucina leaned in close, kissing him on the cheek. "Happy Birthday, Robin. The first of many I hope to spend with you."
