I do not own anything in the Supernatural universe, only Sarah.

I guess that I didn't know what to expect. As I wound through the hills, I thought back through the past year, and tried to focus on the good memories I had had with the boys and Bobby. As far as I knew, I was about to walk into my certain death.

Pulling into a circular clearing at the end of the dirt road, I gazed out the windshield into the abandoned town. Most of the buildings had been reduced to rubble, except for the church, which stood as an eerie reminder of the past.

I pulled up to the church and remained inside the car for a moment, gauging my surroundings. The ghost town seemed just that - a ghost town. I appeared to be the only person in the whole place, and likely the only person in quite a few miles radius.

I turned the car off and opened the door, climbing out of the vehicle and placing my feet on ground that I hadn't stood on in over four years. While I walked around to the trunk, I remembered when mom and I had been here last hunting the coven of vampires.

It was already dark out, and then mom had turned the car's headlights out so that the vampires wouldn't catch onto us. Earlier we had both dusted our clothes with a mixture of herbs that mom got from a fellow hunter, hoping to mask our scent to the vampires. We had parked behind a thick cover of trees, out of sight from the main road into the abandoned village.

I was in the passenger seat of the car; I was only fifteen, still too young to drive. Mom was staring out the driver's side window of her station wagon, watching intently as we waited for any signs that the coven was nesting in the church like we had thought. Finally, I heard an engine and turned to see a truck driving up the road. As it passed by where we were hidden, I saw that it held four people inside, all of whom looked like they were drinking and laughing. The only thing worse than vampires were drunken vampires. After they had parked in front of the church and went inside, mom finally turned to me.

"You ready?" She asked, and I nodded. "How do you kill a vampire, Sarah?" She asked. I rolled my eyes, it went like this on every hunt. Mom always checked to make sure I knew what I was doing.

"Decapitation," I responded, and she smiled. "And dead man's blood slows them down,"

"That's my girl," She complimented, and then turned to open the driver's side door. I opened my door as well and got out, making my way to the trunk of the car where we kept our hunting weapons.

After removing two machetes and several saved capsules of dead man's blood, mom turned to me.

"You stay safe in there, Sarah Marie, you hear me?" She asked. "We don't know how many there are in that church, it could be more than there was in the truck." She hesitated, "If it gets bad in there, you tuck tail and you run." I looked up at my mother.

"It won't," I said, and then she stepped forwards to wrap me in a quick hug. "I love you, mom." I said into her worn hunting jacket.

"I love you too, baby," She replied. It always went like this on hunts. 'Live every day as if it were your last' had a deeper meaning for us, and we knew how bad things might go on hunts. It was our little ritual; of saying goodbye.

I forced myself to come back to present times when I opened the trunk of my car and reached in to grab my pistol and the demon blade. The gun wouldn't do much against Kara, but it might slow her down enough for me to kill her.

After taking a small flask of holy water and a bottle of salt from a smaller bag in the trunk, I shut the door and then turned towards the church. Taking a deep breath, I took a step forward. When I got to the splintered double doors, I raised the gun and then pushed my way inside.

Pews lined the main sanctuary, leading up to the front of the room where the altar stood in front of a broken stained-glass window. Keeping my gun in front of me and my knife easily accessible in the side pocket of my jacket, I crept quietly between the pews towards the front of the sanctuary.

After making it to the front of the room and then checking back on myself, I turned and started towards the left side of the church, where there was another room and a staircase to the basement if I remembered correctly.

As I got closer to that part of the church, I saw that straight ahead of me was a staircase, and on the left side of the area was an open door. When I reached the door I quickly spun and pointed the gun inside, hopefully getting the upper hand if anyone was in there. I scanned the area for movement, but the only thing that appeared to be inside was an old wooden table in the center of the room and a single cabinet that had survived with a few glass cups inside. Seeing that it was clear, I made my way over to the top of the stairs and looked down. It appeared okay, so I started down the stairs.

About halfway down I stopped and stooped down so that I could see into the room below. It was quite large, with a big metal table in the middle of the room that didn't really fit into it's surroundings. There also appeared to be a door at the end of the room, but what it led to, I had no clue. Aside from that and a few windows that were built into the top of the walls on ground level, the room was empty.

I continued on down the stairs into the room, moving to place my gun into the waistline of my jeans and removing the demon blade. I figured that it would come in handy more if Kara really was here. I walked forwards into the room and across to the door on the opposite wall. I was about to reach for the rusted handle when I heard a noise behind me.

I spun to face whoever was in the room with me, gripping my knife in anticipation. As soon as I turned, however, a hard fist caught my jaw and I was sent to the ground, only seeing blonde hair and a flash of a leather jacket before I fell unconscious.
