**A/N: If you have NOT read the Kane Chronicles, this chapter will be extraordinarily confusing.

Leila's POV

"This is a crazy idea!" Leila hissed to Nico. "Two Greeks barging into Crazy Egyptian Magician Headquarters? How insane is that?"

Anubis, who had been listening in, scoffed. "It's not called 'Crazy Egyptian Magician Headquarters'. It's proper name is the House of Life. If you want to avoid getting incinerated, you should at least get the name right."

Nico rolled his eyes at the death god and patiently explained to her, "I don't fully understand the House of Life myself, but...well, I guess you'd say that they're this crime fighting group of Egyptians who basically do what most demigods do. Fight monsters, demons, occasionally gods -"

"So we're going to the House of Life?"

"No. Uh, I'm 90% sure that it's divided into three hundred and fifty -"

"Three hundred and sixty." Anubis corrected irritably.

Nico scowled, and continued. "Three hundred and sixty locations across the world. Nomes, is what I think they call them. The Twenty-First Nome is in Brooklyn."

"So this gnome -"

"Nome."

"Right. How do they get away with having the Twenty-First Nome in Brooklyn when Olympus is right there?"

"Because they don't know Olympus is right there." Anubis said, smirking. "They don't even know the Greek gods exist."

"Then how the Hades are we going to help them stop the minor Greek gods from allying with Apophis?" Leila demanded.

"Don't be ridiculous. They won't see the Greek gods as Greek. They'll probably see them in a different form, or they won't see them at all."

"Remind me why we're helping you again?"

"Egyptian gods allying with Kronos. Greek gods allying with Apophis. Bad. Very bad for both sides." Anubis said slowly, like Leila was mentally challenged or something.

"Are you always like this?" she asked bitterly.

"Just with Greeks."

"Well, you'd better stop before I shove my foot up your godly-"

"Stop arguing, you two!" Nico snapped. "I'm trying to think."

Leila and Anubis fell silent.

Now, one might be wondering, Why doesn't Leila look into Anubis' past, figure all of this stuff out herself, and save herself a lifetime of embarrassment? Yeah, well, that didn't work out too well. Every time she looked at Anubis and concentrated, she would see a weird flash of light, some faces, some battles, but nothing else. She had a feeling his past was forbidden - not in the way Nico's was - but as in a if-you-look-into-Anubis'-past-you-will-unlock-secr ets-that-will-tear-Western-civilization-apart type of forbidden.

Anyway, Anubis had crawled to them, asking for their help - a completely fake show, by the way - because apparently the disgruntled, minor Greek gods and the equally disgruntled, minor Egyptian gods were allying with each other in order to wreak as much havoc as possible.

See, Kronos and Apophis were more connected than one would think. Leila initially thought that the crazy storms and destruction happening across North America were just caused by Luke and his army. Leila had a weird theory that the two civilizations were like mirrors of each other - while Kronos was destroying the Greek world, Apophis was trying to destroy the Egyptian world. If the minor Greek gods and Egyptian gods allied with each other...the demigods would have no chance of beating Kronos, and the magicians definitely wouldn't be able to fight Apophis.

Not good.

Anubis thought that if Nico and Leila helped the magicians to somehow prevent the alliance without revealing their identities, the world would be saved, peace would reign, blah blah blah.

"I've got it!" Nico said, snapping his fingers. "How about we disguise ourselves as magicians and then somehow help you?"

Anubis thought for a moment, then shook his head. "It'll never work. You don't know anything about Egypt."

"Yeah, but we can pretend we're new magicians, right? So we have an excuse to not know anything."

"Well..."

"That's a good idea, Nico." Leila said quickly, before Anubis had a chance to argue. "Let's just get to Brooklyn. The faster we get this over with, the better."

They both looked at Anubis, who grumbled, "Fine."

He made a grabbing motion with his hand, and a bunch of weapons appeared out of thin air, dropping to the ground.

"Greek weapons." Anubis explained. "You use Celestial Bronze, yes?"

"How'd you get those?" Nico exclaimed, his eyes wide.

"When that demigod...Alexander the Great invaded Egypt." Anubis said, wrinkling his nose. He said 'Alexander the Great' the way Leila would say Tartarus or Hyperion's underwear.

"Won't the magicians notice that these are Greek?" Leila wondered aloud.

"There's a glamour over them." Anubis explained. "A thin veil of magic concealing what it really is. I suppose you demigods would call it the Mist."

She looked over the weapons which shimmered like a mirage, shifting from traditional Egyptian weapons to Greek swords. She slid a sword through her belt and slung a bow and quiver across her back. When Anubis was looking the other way, she pulled up her jeans and strapped a dagger to her calf.

Nico raised his eyebrows, but didn't say anything.

As Leila adjusted her weapons, she asked, "How are we all going to get to Brooklyn? Shadow travel?"

"I can't shadow travel with one other person." Nico sighed. "We'll just have to take a taxi or something."

"Who said anything about a taxi?" Anubis said smugly. "I'm a god, remember?"

He flicked his fingers, and without warning, Leila was plunged into a roller-coaster of complete darkness.

Sadie's POV

Alright, that's enough with that. It's Sadie's turn.

Sadie liked her room. She liked the view from her window, she liked the fridge which was well stocked with her favorite drinks, and she quite liked the flat screen TV which kept her entertained when Carter was being especially annoying.

You know what she liked most of all? The privacy.

This enabled her to lie off her bed with her head dangling off the side, to have her shirt pulled over her face, and to have her music on as loud as humanly possible, which was exactly what she was doing at the moment.

She should've been practicing her magic, or training or doing something or another to help with the huge problem at hand, but she'd had just about enough with her brother and his boring lectures.

Just then, a slight diversion occurred when two bodies flew out of the air, falling to the floor with a loud thump.

"What the -" Sadie fumbled for her wand and sat up so fast that her head began to spin.

"Hello, Sadie." said an amused voice.

Sadie blinked the dark spots out of her eyes and focused on the face in front of her. Her heart jumped. "Anubis." she squeaked, hurriedly fixing her shirt.

Anubis was looking annoyingly handsome as usual, with his lovely chocolate brown eyes and disheveled black hair. This only served to make Sadie more irritated, whose hair was unmade and teeth were unbrushed.

"Anubis." she repeated, with much more venom in her voice. "Who gave you the right to - barging into my room - no notice beforehand - We have magical boundaries! Gods can't get in!"

Anubis opened his mouth to argue, but was interrupted by someone yelling a few not-so-godly words.

"That was not fun." someone sighed.

"Ugh." groaned a feminine voice from the bedroom floor. "Anubis, could you please warn us next time you drop us from ten feet off the floor? Gods, my head is killing me."

"Sorry." Anubis said, not sounding sorry at all.

"You brought guests?" Sadie hissed.

He suddenly looked very nervous. "Er...yes. About that. I -"

The girl pushed herself off the floor, rubbing her scalp and cursing under her breath. She was rather pretty, even after falling from Sadie's ceiling. But her long hair looked like it had just lost a fight with a hairbrush, and she looked like she hadn't slept for the past week. She was heavily armed, with a bow hanging off the crook of her elbow and a long khopesh swinging from her belt.

"Can we take a plane next time?" she snapped. "You did that on purpose."

Anubis didn't smile, but his lips twitched at the corners.

The girl helped the other boy off the ground, who looked so much like Anubis that Sadie almost called him that. He wasn't as handsome, of course, but Sadie supposed the poor chap had potential. Everything about him was dark - his eyes, hair, clothes, right down to the gloomy expression he now wore on his face.

Anubis cleared his throat. "Sadie, this is Leila Brooke and Nico di Angelo. Nico and Leila, this is Sadie Kane."

"New recruits?" Sadie asked.

Anubis nodded. "They're the best hand-to-hand combatants I know, and they're here to help with that...small problem you've been having."

"Small?" Sadie demanded. Anubis shrugged apologetically. Even he knew that small was an understatement. Sadie, Carter, and the other inhabitants of Brooklyn House had been scrambling to stop a huge band of Egyptian gods from allying with each other and backing Apophis. If they succeeded...the consequences would be unthinkable. The situation must be more serious than it seemed if Anubis was stepping in.

"I'll leave you now." Anubis murmured, just low enough for Sadie to hear. "Don't ask questions about where they come from. They're quite sensitive about that. Good luck."

Then, he had the nerve to disappear without a proper goodbye.

Sadie made a face and looked at the two newcomers, who were looking around nervously. They never seemed to stay still. The girl kept brushing her hair behind her ear, avoiding any eye contact with Sadie, while the boy was anxiously twisting the silver ring he wore on his middle finger.

Sadie wondered why Anubis would introduce her to these two self-taught and not-too-spectacular-looking people, and how they could possible help. But they needed all the help they could get, even if it meant training two novices.

"Well, I suppose I'll have to introduce you to my brother." Sadie said finally. "Leila and Nico, yes?"

"Yeah." Nico muttered.

Leila didn't say anything. She looked intently at Sadie for a few moments. Her eyes shifted from green to gold.

And the oddest thing happened.

The hieroglyph for 'Time' wrote itself in yellow writing in the space between them. And Sadie remembered everything. As in her entire life. It flashed before her eyes, images flickering at a dizzying pace within a span of a few seconds.

Then, Leila blinked and it was gone.

"What was that?" Sadie said, feeling shell-shocked. "What did you just do?"

Leila frowned. "What are you talking about?"

"You just saw my entire bloody life! How did you -"

"I have no idea what you're saying." she responded coldly.

"You did something." Sadie insisted. "I saw your eyes, how they changed."

"That's great." Nico said, with equal hostility. "Last I checked, Leila's eyes don't change color. Maybe you should get yours checked out, though."

Sadie grit her teeth. The nerve of these two…Anubis had lied to her. Leila Brooke was one powerful magician. She had to have been trained to be able to do something like that and not pass out. And Sadie had a feeling she wouldn't get along with these two.

Leila's POV

Before anything else is said, rewind and pause. Back to when Anubis was transporting them "safely" to Sadie Kane's bedroom. Leila was flying, twisting and turning, hearing strange noises, and feeling like she was about to hurl any second. She felt through the darkness and latched onto someone's shoulder. Whatever was pushing them down accelerated, and Leila suddenly had a bird's eye view of a huge, five story mansion overlooking the East River.

She braced herself for impact as the roof came horribly close, but she went right through it and slammed into someone's bedroom floor.

Leila's shoulder and head took the brunt of the collision, and her bow was saved as it slipped from her shoulder to the crook of her elbow. She struggled to take in her surroundings, but the room kept spinning wildly around her.

"That was not fun." Nico groaned next to her.

Leila cursed and clutched her head. "Ugh. Anubis, could you please warn us next time you drop us from ten feet off the floor? Gods, my head is killing me."

"Sorry." Anubis said insincerely.

"You brought guests?" an unfamiliar voice with a distinctly British accent shrieked.

"Er...yes. About that, I …"

Leila struggled to her feet and focused on a very angry girl perched on the edge of her bed, who, judging by the flush on her cheeks and heavy breathing, was yelling her head off at Anubis a few seconds ago. The girl looked about Leila's age, and had ratty blonde hair streaked with neon colors. Her eyes were a bright blue, and her icy glare, at the moment, was directed at Leila.

The girl was looking over her in the same fashion; her gaze lingering on Leila's disheveled hair.

Leila glanced at Anubis, and was furious to see that he was barely containing his laughter.

"Can we take a plane next time?" she said heatedly. "You did that on purpose!"

Nico started to make some faint retching noises, so Leila offered him her hand, and hauled him to his feet.

Anubis made a noise in the back of his throat. "Sadie, this is Leila Brooke and Nico di Angelo. Nico and Leila, this is Sadie Kane."

"New recruits?" Sadie asked.

Nico and Leila shook their heads vigorously, but Sadie wasn't paying any attention to them.

Anubis inclined his head. "They're the best hand-to-hand combatants I know, and they're here to help with that...small problem you've been having."

"Small?" Sadie said, her voice rising a few octaves. Anubis lifted his shoulders, and muttered something in her ear.

The blush on Sadie's face deepened, and Leila and Nico exchanged significant looks. Leila felt her ADHD starting to kick in as she stood there awkwardly, untangling her hair, drumming her fingers against her bow, tapping her foot - anything to avoid eye contact with...the Egyptian. She made idle observations about the room. It was huge, with high ceilings and a private balcony overseeing the East River. There was a chest of drawers sitting in the corner with a built in fridge, probably stuffed with goodies. Hieroglyphs floated around the room, doing 360s and twirling on the ceiling.

It was an amazing bedroom. And Leila hated it.

Everything about it screamed Danger! Get out of here! She was on enemy territory. The sooner she got out of here, the better.

"Well, I suppose I'll have to introduce you to my brother." Sadie said, breaking the silence. "Leila and Nico, yes?"

"Yeah." Nico said, looking like he'd rather die than stand there any longer.

Leila pursed her lips and looked directly at Sadie.

She shouldn't have done that.

A stream of images entered her mind. Leila saw Sadie's birth, and some events from her childhood. As she grew up, though, something was wrong. The pictures of Sadie's life from age 7 onward were broken, fragments of what they should have been. Leila couldn't connect one image to the other, and instead of seeing a consecutive life span, she could only see bits and pieces. Sadie's life was off limits to Leila too, just as Anubis' had been.

Leila shut her eyes and turned away.

"What was that?" Sadie whispered. "What did you just do?"

Shit. She was in trouble.

Leila forced herself to frown, and answer nonchalantly, "What are you talking about?"

Sadie's lips trembled. "You just saw my entire bloody life! How did you -"

Leila cut her off. "I have no idea what you're saying." Sadie was only partially right. Leila hadn't seen her entire life.

"You did something." Sadie persisted. "I saw your eyes, how they changed."

"That's great." Nico said, coming to Leila's rescue. "Last I checked, Leila's eyes don't change color. Maybe you should get yours checked out, though."

Sadie clenched her jaw. It was obvious she didn't believe them. Leila started feeling a little nervous. If Sadie wound up finding the truth about them…

"Fine." she muttered. "I'll figure it out eventually, though. Come, now."

She stormed out of her room, and banged on the door to an adjoining room.

"Carter!" she yelled. "Get out here!"

No response.

"So help me Ra, I will kick this door down if you don't -"

"Alright, alright!" said a guy's voice hastily. He opened the door and shut it behind him. He glanced at Nico and Leila.

"New recruits?" he questioned.

"They fell from my roof." Sadie said sourly.

He grinned. "Excellent."

The guy was a tall African American, with dark hair and warm eyes. Leila had the feeling she had seen him before, and not just from Sadie's time stream. From real life. She knew his name before he even opened his mouth.

"I'm Carter Kane." he said in a friendly voice. He shook hands with Nico, who mumbled his own name. When he extended his fingers towards Leila, though, his smile faded. His eyebrows furrowed together as he stared at her.

"I know you." he said. "What are you doing here?"

***A/N: This chapter was really bad, and I'm so sorry. But I wanted to post something, because I haven't updated in so long. (high school is horrible)

ANYWAY, let me explain this chapter really fast if you're still confused:

This is set pre-Serpent's Shadow. Apophis hasn't been defeated yet. I've written a small sub-plot in which Carter and Sadie have to stop the minor Egyptian gods from allying with Apophis. The thing is, they don't know that it's not just the Egyptian gods, but it's also the Greek gods. In exchange for an alliance with Apophis, the minor Greek gods want the minor Egyptian gods to ally with Kronos to ensure their victory. Anubis knows that without any demigod help, it would be impossible for Carter and Sadie to stop the alliance from happening.

OH AND ALSO: This ALL has to happen BEFORE the week ends, otherwise Leila will face a death sentence from Artemis when she returns to camp.

So, yeah. I'm really sorry if it's super confusing to you; I never meant for this crossover to happen...it just did.

Did you like this chapter? Hate it? Let me know by reviewing!
