He did not believe his eyes when he saw the young woman at the ball that night. He could not believe his eyes when he saw how beautiful she was in that red dress. He could not believe that he heard from her mouth was separating from her husband. It still could not believe he had so attracted against him to kiss passionately in front of all his colleagues, he could not believe she had clung to him as hopelessly and had him made her kiss. He could not believe how much he had missed her, how her smile was vital, how his lips against hers was necessary, how his heart was racing as his fingers brushed her soft skin .

And now here she was, in front of him, staring into his own, that look he loved and wanted to never leave . She just smiled at him and he had to clear his throat in an attempt to regain his senses.

-Would you like a glass of champagne? He asked shyly.

-Yes, why not.

He took her hand and pulled her to the buffet and a man served them each a glass. They clinked glasses, smiling.

-Happy New Year William, murmured the young woman.

-Happy New Year, he replied without leaving her eyes while they both drank a sip.

They were then joined by colleagues of the young man and they spent much of the evening discussing things and others. Then, a little hesitant, William leaned to her ear and spoke softly.

-Do you wish to give me this dance Doctor?

-Yes Inspector, she said blushing.

They advanced on hand track in the hand, then gently took, approaching a little from each other, before moving to the slow rhythm of waltz, staring into that of other.

They left the building late that night, the young woman clinging tightly to the arm of the young man. They took a carriage and gave the address of the Doctor, and then they sat comfortably against one another. Most of the way was made in total silence, yet they remained closely entwined. She could feel the heart of the Inspector beat against her temple while her face was resting on his chest and his fingers tenderly played with hers. He sniffed the scent that emanated from her hair and sometimes closed his eyes to savor the moment. They had no need to talk, gestures saying anything. Well then the carriage slowed and finally stopped.

-We arrived home, William whispered to regret.

She sat up slowly and met his gaze.

-Thank you for the evening, she said softly.

-Thank you for coming.

They smiled and the young woman looked down at their hands tied before speaking again.

-William, it may take some time, but I will not give up on you. You will need to show you patient.

-I am, I also refuse to give up.

He slipped a hand under her chin to make her raise her face and plunge his eyes into hers again.

-I missed you.

-I missed you too, William, terribly.

They smiled and approached one another to come and kiss tenderly for minutes, not wanting to end. They separated again and the young woman opened the door of the carriage and down the foot work.

-See you soon, she said softly gave him one last look.

-I can not wait to see you again, he replied, kissing her hand which made her smile even wider.

Then she left the carriage and walked to the building, turning one last time once on the door step to address a shy wave to which he responded immediately before seeing her enter and go asked the carriage to resume his journey.

The young man was in the room richly decorated for many minutes already. Dressed for the occasion, he was looking forward to the arrival of his partner. William was nervous and did not know why. He held in his hands for several minutes the champagne he had not touched, just waving his colleagues who sometimes spent beside him, watching his friends on the dance floor. He had to admit that George was pretty good with Emily and his bos seemed to have fun with his wife danced a little further. In front of the window onto a balcony overlooking the park, waiting for William again and again.

-Tell me Murdoch, the Doctor give you a rabbit? Launched Brakenreid arriving next to him.

-I do not believe sir, stammered William, she should come.

-Mmmh, from what I understood at Christmas, it's more serious between you.

-Well, I hope William sighed yet uncomfortable to talk about his private life with his superior.

-Me too Murdoch because you looked like a sinking ship.

William did not answer and gave him a dazed look, and his superior gave him a nudge watching the door that was on the other side of the room.

-In any case, you have a lot of Murdoch Murdoch, do not waste it, he said before drinking a sip from his glass and move away.

William looked over at the door and his heart skipped a beat. Julia was in the doorway, dressed in a long red dress with plunging neckline, a huge shiny pin rested on her waist and a slit revealed her long thin legs. William looked a long time from head to foot before crossing her eyes and see her huge smile. She slowly approached him and he cleared his throat, replacing his suit jacket and down his glass while the young woman continued her progression towards him. He met her eyes again when she was a few inches from him.

-Good evening William, she said in a soft voice.

-Good evening Julia, replied William unable to think.

-I'm sorry, I'm terribly late, I did not want to make you wait but Ruby ...

She did not finish her sentence he was already slipping a hand into her bare back for draw against him and put his lips on hers. His other hand took the road to her hair and he held her against him as she put one hand on each side of his face. They kissed for a long time, eagerly, before they split just a few millimeters to catch their breath and cross their eyes.

-You're here now, he whispered to her lips, smiling.

She nodded and he kissed her more tenderly this time before nestling his face in her hair.

-My God, you're beautiful tonight, he whispered in a low voice in her ear, I can not wait to be alone with you.

-A little patience, Inspector, she says laughing, if you make me dance before that?

He walked away a little of her to meet his eyes and he spoke again.

-It was about a dance, but witout this dress.

-William, tenderly threw the young woman taking his hand to lead him to the dance floor.

They stood against each other and the music set off. They danced so long minutes, pressed against each other, their foreheads touching often , Julia closed her eyes regularly, just to savor this moment in the man's arms she loved.

They left hand track in the hand and served champagne before discussing with their friends. However, during the conversation, William noticed a change in Julia's attitude. He felt her tense beside him, he saw her breath accelerate, her hand trembling. He ran his hand through her back and leaned toward her.

-My love, what's happening? He asked, softly.

-I ... I need to take the air, she said simply before walking away quickly.

William exchanged a look with Emily who was with them and he apologized, trying to catch up with the young woman who had already pierced the crowd.

He found a few minutes later on the balcony, gazing over the city below. He slowly approached her.

-Julia?

She jumped and turned to him just smiling.

-You scared me William, she said simply as he approached her again.

He came to her back and gently ran his coat over her shoulders.

-You're going to be sick if you stay out dressed like that, he said before moving his arms around her to shake his body against her back.

-Thanks, Julia just sighed.

-What happens my heart? He asked, still on her back.

-I ... it's silly William.

-Talk to me.

- I thought I saw... Gillies.

On hearing the name, William stiffened immediately and tightened his grip a little more around her.

-I know he can not be here tonight, not at the police ball, he must be away and he must have forgotten me since a long time and ...

-Julia, Julia calm down.

William made her turn slowly and peered into his tenderly stroking her cheek.

-William, I'm afraid to see him reappear in my life.

-It will not happen.

-You do not know.

-Do you keep your sessions with Dr. Simpson?

-Yes from time to time.

-From time to time? William repeated, frowning. You need to keep talking about it and ...

-William I did not want to argue with you tonight, sighed the young woman, I just want ... take me in your arms please, she said in a tone almost pleading.

He looked at her for a second before kiss her hair.

-You have suffered serious trauma darling, you need time, it is quite normal. But I'm here, okay?

-I know, William, I know, Julia sighed still nestled in his arms finally feeling reassured by his presence.

They sat in silence for several minutes before hearing the voices raised in unison room whose door was ajar.

- .HAPPY NEW YEAR.

They then parted a little and smiled.

-Happy New Year my love, William whispered at her lips.

-Happy New Year my angel, Julia replied in the same way before they shared a long and endless kiss that left them breathless.

-And what if you came home? William whispered as they watched the fireworks crackled over the lake. I really want another dance with you.

-Me too, Julia sighed, feeling the hands of William slide down her body, but we will be quiet because if she hears us Ruby may make you even a sermon and talk to me for hours.

-In my apartment then, William whispered before filing a wet kiss on her neck.

They smiled again and together quietly left the party, taking the path of the apartment of the young man. They managed to stay calm until they entered his bedroom, until William stood in the back of the young woman to remove her hair of her neck, until she felt his fingers touch her skin on her back and go drag her dress to the floor, just before he let slip his hands, his lips and tongue on her.
