AN: No beta. Yeah I've been mia for a bit, but i'm back sorta. hope you're amused.
Caroline nervously walked up to the door. She pulled the belt on her trenchcoat tighter and knew there was no turning back now. She rang the bell and waited. After a second she turned to leave. She was a coward, she was afraid. It had been so long since she had seen him. What if he had moved on? What if he didn't want to see her? She received a letter from him recently stating that he wished for his daughter to attend her hogwarts school, but then another letter was sent stating it was no longer necessary. Strange she thought. It wasn't until she learned that his daughter had gone mad with power, literally, and consumed her. She killed Hayley, and then herself, and Klaus was left with nothing. Well, he still had his family, they were scattered all over the world. After what happened no one wanted to stay. It took her another year to work up the courage to go find him.
Caroline wondered if he was even there. She took a step to leave when the door opened.
"Hello Caroline"
Caroline turned around and there was Klaus standing there, untouched by time. She blinked before saying anything.
"Hi" Caroline said awkwardly
"I wasn't expecting visitors"
"I know, can we talk?"
Klaus moved aside and let her in. She followed him into his studio, where she could see he was working on something.
"Can I offer you something to drink?" Klaus asked
"Do you have any champagne?"
"I thought you said that wasn't our thing"
"Good point, I need something stronger"
Klaus wondered what was on her mind. He poured her some whiskey and offered her the glass. He turned to pour himself a glass. He turned back and saw that Caroline had finished her glass and reached for his.
"You're suppose to savor the taste sweetheart" Klaus said
"I know that. Look, I need to talk to you about something"
Klaus leaned back on the table while Caroline started pacing back and front in front of him.
"I know it took me a really long time to find you, and I didn't know if I would actually find you, so I wasn't totally prepared for this, well sort of, but not exactly. This is really scary for me" Caroline rambled on
"Well I am the big bad"
"I know! Which is why this is scary for me"
"Is someone threatening you? Are you in danger?"
"No, it's not that. You said, that you'd wait"
"I didn't phrase it like that love"
"Don't get technical on me, here, look I'm trying ok?"
"What are you trying to do?"
"Why is this so hard? It's never this hard in the movies. Now I know how a guy feels"
"Caroline"
Klaus placed his drink on the table and walked over to her. He held her hands in his. He could feel her shaking out of nervousness.
"Whatever it is, just tell me. I'll try not to kill anyone"
"You better not"
Caroline reached into her pocket and felt the box in her hands.
"So the guy usually does this and the whole knee thing, but you're gonna have to just deal with the fact that i'm not going to do that"
She took the box out and and tried to open it. Her nerves got to her and she fumbled with the box, dropping it. They both bent down to get it, knocking their heads together. Caroline stumbled back, holding her head.
"Oh my god, your thick hybrid skull almost cracked mine!" Caroline said
"Are you alright?" Klaus said holding her head
"No thanks to your hybrid head!"
"Sweetheart"
"I lost the box too"
"You mean this box?" Klaus said holding it up
"Yeah that box"
Klaus placed the small box into her hands. She smiled and opened it, showing him what's inside. Klaus's eyes went wide and then he smiled.
"Isn't there a question that goes along with this?" Klaus asked
"You're going to make me say it aren't you?"
"Say what? I just want to be clear on what this is. So there's no confusion"
"Will you and your thick hybrid skull marry me?"
"What brought this on?"
"Answering a question with a question? Not a good sign"
"I want to know why, you've never expressed any interest in this. If you had I would have had several rings lined up"
"I want you to know that I'm serious about this, about us being together. And what better way than proposing"
"You don't have to resort to these human conventions love, I want you here with me"
"But you didn't say yes"
Klaus looked at the ring and the designs on it. He held the box closer to look, on the inside of the ring, were their names engraved.
"I'm a bit insulted though, no grand display? No hiding it in my champagne glass, or dessert?"
"I asked for champagne but you didn't have any"
"I never said that"
"Klaus!"
"I don't want rush into things"
Caroline pulled at the belt of her trenchcoat, and let the coat fall onto the floor. Klaus almost dropped the box. Caroline was naked, standing before him. She walked towards him and placed her hands on his chest.
"Your answer?" Caroline asked
"Yes" Klaus managed to get out
Caroline smiled and took the ring out of the box and slipped it onto his finger. He looked at the designs on it.
"They're suppose to be viking or something" Caroline said
"I noticed"
"And it's made of titanium, so if you ever fall into a volcano, this ring will be the only thing that survives"
"Planning on pushing me into a volcano?"
"Maybe, so why don't we go to your room now?"
Klaus gathered her into his arms and flashed into his room.
