[6 September]
"I love you. See you when you get back." I say and pull Kaya in for a hug.
"I'll be back before you know it." She mumbles against my chest. I nod and kiss the top of her head. The last call for her flight is made and I reluctantly pull myself away from her. Kaya gives me a small smile and waves as she walks through security to the gate and shows the woman at the desk her passport and ticket. From where I'm standing, I could see her just past the gaggle of TSA workers not doing their job. She manages to blow me a kiss before they shut the door behind her, cutting her off completely from my view.
"Ugh, you'd think she was dying or something based on how you're acting." Alex groans from behind me. I roll my eyes and walk over to him.
"Sorry I'm sentimental." He scoffs and begins walking. I follow after him as he weaves through the people crowding the airport.
"No, you're just sad that the only action you'll be getting for a week will be from your right hand." Alex snickers. I knock my shoulder into his and push past him, his cackle filling my ears as I try to navigate my way through the airport.
-
"Hey, is your dad going to be home when we get back?" I ask as Alex exits the parking garage.
"He should be... Unless my parents go out to dinner like they normally do on Saturdays." He says. He presses a few buttons on the radio and the car starts to rattle from the bass of the music. "Why?"
"No reason... I just have some things I need to ask him." I find myself having to raise my voice to be able to hear what I'm saying over the music. Alex mumbles something under his breath and continues driving. The drive back to his house is quiet in regards to conversation, and I am sucked into my thoughts as buildings and trees whip past the car.
-
I am quick to get out of Alex's Range Rover as soon as he puts it in park and all but run into the house. I pass a confused looking Anna, giving her a slight wave an anxious smile and continue to Enzo's study. The door is slightly ajar when I reach it. I take a deep breath before knocking on it.
"Yes?" Enzo asks. I push the door open a little more and stick my head through the gap. "Ah, Sawyer! Come in, come in. Sit." he says and motions to the chair in front of his large desk.
"How are you? I take it Kaya made it to the plane on time?" I nod and cross the room in a few strides. The chair is comfy, but it does nothing to steady my racing heart.
"Um, I have a question I'd like to ask you." I say slowly, gauging Enzo's reaction as I go. "I love your daughter with all my heart, and I would do anything for her."
"Yes... This, I know." Enzo says, equally as slow. "What is this about, son?"
S hit. F uck. Okay, just breathe. What's the worst that could happen, Sawyer?
"You seem like a man who likes to stick to tradition." He shrugs and folds his hands on the desk and leans forward. He's analysing me and my every move and I feel like I'm about to s hit my pants.

[Tuesday, 9 September]
"Sawyer!" I woke up with a start and immediately groaned into my pillow. There was someone banging on the door of the apartment and they weren't stopping. I was glad Kaya had to stay in London a little longer and wasn't back yet so I didn't have to face the wrath of her sleep being interrupted. I rolled out of the bed and walked over to the door, Hitch trailing behind me. "Sawyer Hartman, open this door right now!" Tyler yelled through the thick wood. I groaned again and unlocked the door, opening it slowly. Tyler stood on the other side with his arms crossed and his left foot tapping on the ground.
"You have a lot of explaining to do." He said and pushed his way into the apartment. "What is this supposed to mean? Is this some kind of sick joke? Because it's not funny." Tyler throws his phone at me and thankfully I catch it. I furrow my brows and look at the screen.
"This means exactly what it says, and no it's not a joke. I just wish you would have waited until a reasonable time to come pound on my door..." I say as I read the text message that I sent him last night.
"First of all, in case you forgot this is Kaya's apartment. Yours is right next door. And second of all, this cannot be happening right now! You're twenty-four, Kaya's twenty-three. And she has expressed great disinterest in thinking about the subject prior to turning twenty-five."
I roll my eyes and give Tyler his phone back. he continues to ramble on and on, his voice growing louder as he continues. I sit on one of the barstools as I listen to him talk, although what he's saying goes in one ear and out the other.
"For gods sake, you haven't even officially moved in together yet. Nor have you been together long enough to make this decision wisely." I stop Tyler there and speak up.
"I realise that you may not completely understand my thought process behind all this, but it's ultimately my decision. You don't know how my heart races when I so much as think about Kaya, let alone when I'm actually with her." I lift my hands up and shake them. "My hands get sweaty all the time when we're together because I still can't fully grasp that we are together. It's so surreal, Tyler. My thoughts, every minute of everyday, revolve around her; if she's okay at work, if she's safe on the road, if she's having fun with her friends, if she got inspiration for a new video or a new beat... I know for a fact that she's the one I want to spend the rest of my life with." By the time I'm finished my word vomit, Tyler has tears brimming in his eyes. He wipes his eyes and sniffles.
"You are so disgusting. You and your lovesickness make me want to throw up." Tyler chuckles. I shrug and run my hand through my hair.
"Do you want to see the rings I picked out so far?" I ask him and he nods.
"I can't believe you're going to ask Kaya to marry you..." Tyler says in disbelief as I retrieve my laptop from the dining room table and place it on the breakfast bar.
"Neither can I, if I'm honest." I reply and wait for the laptop to boot up.
