Kagome looked up at the demon lord in surprise. "You're not serious."

He blinked at her and she hit herself mentally.

Who are you kidding, Kagome? He's always serious.

She cleared her throat. "So, what did you mean when you said this was home?"

He became visibly guarded, any leniency she might have gained during his stay at her house faded before her eyes.

"Nothing, girl. Only that I know this place."

Well, at least he hadn't stopped after girl.

She sighed sadly. "Ok, Sesshomaru, so what do we do?"

He closed his eyes again, and she saw the subtle movement of his nose as he sniffed the air.

"It would be best to avoid anyone who might recognize this Sesshomaru."

A heavy weight hit her heart when he reverted back to the royal third person.

"Right," she said through a false smile. "So should we go back through the well?"

His grip on her waist tightened fractionally, and Kagome bit the inside of her cheek.

Stupid, she scolded herself. There are probably people he wants to see.

Like his dad.

She opened her mouth to suggest something else, but he nodded stiffly.

"Yes, that would be best."

Kagome's spirits fell as Sesshomaru pulled her up into the air again, guilt nagging at her as they rushed toward the well. Suddenly, he jerked back in the opposite direction, wringing another yelp from Kagome.

"What is it?" She asked, only to silence herself at his glare. He set her down in the unfamiliar forest, his sharp gaze set ahead of them. He set himself in front of her, the fur on his Mokomoko rising in apprehension as he growled.

What was going on?
