Jasper II

I hate Sapphire Grace.

The first time I saw her, I knew there was something about that girl that I found repulsive. But, my reasons intensified when I first met her.

It was the second week of the new school year. My lovely and perfect daughter, Sonia, was coming out the school, with a big smile in her beautiful face, which only made my day more brighter. But, before she could reach my car, a voice called her back.

"Sonia!" Sonia turned to the voice. It belonged to a girl her age (7-8 years old). She was dressed in leggings, an orange and purple T-shirt and her blonde hair was pulled away from her face in two perfect braids. Her hightop sneakers were old and dirty. Her eyes were shiny blue. I didn't like her appearnce and I didn't want her to hang out with my daughter. Maybe it was the color of her skin, which was a shade darker than ours, but I don't think so.

"What's up, Sapph?" Sonia answered her, smiling.

"Mrs. Gregson wanted to know if it was OK with you to be buddy seats..." she informed her, kind of shyly. Sonia smiled even bigger and nodded.

"Sure! I'd love that!" That answer perked the other girl, who smiled back "I'll see you tomorrow!"

"Cool! See you tomorrow!" With that, they hugged one last time and Sonia climbed into the car with me.

"Hi, Mommy!" she greeted me. I pursed my lips in a thin line, trying to smile at her.

"Who's that girl, Sonia?" I asked her, trying to keep at bay my rising bad mood.

"She's Sapphire Grace, Mommy. She's new in the school" Sonia explained. I nodded, ending the conversation.

The following weeks were pure torture, since Sonia and that little girl were apparently, best friends. And Sonia couldn't shut up about it. I didn't consent it. I told Sonia to stop hanging with her, but Sonia threw a tantrum, saying she wanted to be friends with Sapphire and that I wasn't gonna stop her.

The moment those words came out of my daughter's mouth, I knew she was being influenced by her and I needed to keep her away as much as I could. So, I signed her to beauty pageants.

The more she was busy, the less she could be hanging with that girl, and I was extremely proud with myself.

"Mommy? Why do I have to do this?" Sonia questioned me, from the back seat of the car, while I was driving her to a pageant, 'Miss San Fransisco'.

"Because you're the most pretty girl around and you have to show it to the world" I half lied. I do believe my daughter is the most beautiful girl of all, but the main reason will still remain a mystery for her.

"But, I don't wanna do pageants anymore" I almost slam the breaks to stop the car and turned to Sonia.

"What did you say, Sonia?" I looked back at her, to see she was fidgeting in her place, nervous.

"I don't like pageants" she repeated, weakly. I sighed.

"Sonia, you can't back down from this one" I admitted to her. Heck, we were halfway there! "But, if you really don't wanna do the next one, you won't" I gritted my teeth. I wasn't really liking the idea of Sonia quitting the pageants and now, I had to think of something new to fill the times and keep her away from that Grace girl.

"Really?!" Sonia smiled, looking up from her lap. I nodded and continued to drive "Thanks, Mommy!"

Once we arrived to the pageant, we headed to our station and started to finish Sonia. She already was wearing the make-up and the hair pulled back. She just needed to get dress and the final touches for it.

"OK, sweetie. While I'm getting ready, why don't you practice your routine one last time?" I checked with her. Sonia nodded and started to do several jazz moves, since she was dancing as talent. She was a very skilled dancer. So, while I was pulling out all the stuff for Sonia, I heard a high pitched squeak, which I found completely irritating. And no doubt, all the rest of the mothers did, because we all turned with scowls in our faces. I mentally smiled, proudly, until I saw Sonia wasn't rehearsing, but hugging another contestant. I walked there to stop her, to have the surprise of a lifetime: Sapphire Grace was here.

"Mommy! Sapph is gonna enter the pageant too!" Sonia explained, super excited. I was speechless. I was trying so hard to put her away from Sapphire, to build her the confidence to stand for herself and that, that brat, is following her and crumbling all of my hard work and effort! I won't allow that!

"Actually, my Grandma entered me" she huffed, making emphasis on the word 'grandma' "I didn't want to! I wanted to enter the try out for the soccer team!" she whined, a hand through her face.

"And, I totally agree with you, baby" a woman's voice agreed with her. It belonged to a woman- well, she wasn't a woman, but rather a big girl. Her skin was colored, the Native-American way. Her hair was long and choppy, with feathers around. She was wearing some jeans and a white tank top, with some shoes, holding a purse in her hand. Her eyes were multicoloring, because it changes it with the light. In all, this was one of the most beautiful women I've seen.

And I hate her.

"C'mon, Sonia" I grabbed Sonia's hand "Don't speak with the competition" I started to drag her away.

"But, Mommy! She's my best friend!" She protested. I tried to maintain calm.

"Sweetie, I know, but some people are really bad players and they could hurt you" I didn't exactly lie to her. Some mothers were like that, not to mention, some children. Spoiled brats "So, I know you want to, but no talking to the competition" Sonia looked sad and heart broken, but nodded at my order.

"Yes, Mommy" she replied.

The pageant was perfect. Sonia was perfect answering the questions, waving and modeling her favorite swimsuit, which was a one piece. Like Hell I was putting my daughter in one of those reveling two pieces!

Sapphire Grace was a total disaster, if you ask me. She came out in the same outfit she was wearing before and started ti wave like a maniac, especially when she saw the woman she was with before. But this time, there were two guys with her, which by appearance, were related.

The older one was blonde and had tan skin. He was built physically and it looked like he was taller than the woman. He was wearing simple jeans and a sky blue shirt with sneakers. He was smiling at Sapphire and holding both his thumbs up, in approval.

The younger one was sitting between the man and the woman and was dressed similar to them. I noticed his hair was light brown and that he was holding up a sign that said 'We 3 U, Sapph!' He wasn't older than 15 and he was making a ridiculous stunt like this. Is he was my son, I'd already put him in place.

Anyway, back to Sapphire. The way she answered the questions made me think that, either she was sabotaging her own participation or she was dumber than I thought! When the swimsuit part arrived, she came out in tank top and shorts, and claimed that she was 'no dumb Barbie that was gonna show off her body to strangers so they could ravish her with their eyes'.

Everyone was taken aback by her words. Except for those three people, who stood up and started to clap at her. The woman even wiped out a tear. Sapphire bowed to them and left the stage.

"Thanks to all our contestant for participate, but, unfortunately, we only have two prizes tonight" the host announced, once the pageant was over and the judges delivered. I was positively confident that my Sonia had won first place "OK, the second place belongs to... Sonia Snow!" WHAT?! Sonia walked to the stage and received her crown and band and waved and bowed like I taught her, smiling happily. I was furious. If what I'm fearing, happens, I'm not leaving the easy way! "And, first place belongs to... Sapphire Grace!"

I.

FREAKING.

KNEW.

IT.

"That's bullshit!" I exploded, not caring about the gasps around me "This pageant was arranged and you know that!" I accused the host, jabbing a finger in his chest.

"Mrs., I suggest you to get off the stage, you're making a scandal" he warned me.

"I'm making a scandal?!" I repeated, like if I couldn't believe it "That freaking brat did every single step of the pageant wrong and you had the audacity of placing her first prize?! My daughter did way better and you placed her second!" I spatted at his face.

"Mommy!" Sonia tried to pull me away, but I didn't budge.

"My daughter is not brat!" I heard the voice from the woman who was with Sapphire "And the only brat I see around is you! Not even your daughter is making an scandal over a crown!" she accused me.

"I've worked really hard for her to be the best, but you and your brat of a daughter are always around, reminding us that we're not best" I replied back at her, glaring "I want her away from my daughter or the consequences would be worst-"

"Enough!" a male voice boomed, surprising us. It belonged to the young boy that was with her "You can't take this with the girls! You wanna hate each other? Hate each other! Just don't bring the girls into this!" he finished, pointing at Sonia, who was sobbing in the brat's arms. The blonde man from before was trying to comfort her.

"I don't take orders from a teenage boy" I finished the argument and walked to Sonia "Sonia, we're leaving. Say goodbye, because I don't want you near this girl ever again"

"No, Mommy!" she pleaded me.

"Please, Mrs. Snow!" the brat begged me.

"Sonia-"

"NO!" she shouted at me and glared at me "Daddy says I can have friends. Daddy says you're crazy. I wanna live with Daddy!" she yelled at me, tears running down her face. I was taken aback, but nodded.

"Have it your way, then... brat" I walked away from them, and outside the building.

Like I said before, I hate Sapphire Grace.
