Siefer's arms unconsciously tightened around Elphaba's trembling waist, his heart raced and his mind reeled. His breathing steeled, and the world around him crumbled before his feet. Weakly, he lifted his head, till his dark, sapphire eyes stared back into shattered chocolate. Inwardly, he gasped, for her eyes were like glass, broken shards of listless beauty and grace; a phantom dancer of light, once flickering, upon the tip of a thin fine piece of silk and thread, vanishing beneath the veil of darkness.

"What" stilling, Siefer licked his lips, his limbs stiffened and his heart clenched. The air around him grew thin, making the simple task to breath, difficult. "What did you say?" his voice cracks slightly and his throat tightens.

He could tell she was in pain, and though her face was hard as stone, and her emotions veiled, he could see it, for the slight tightness around her eyes, was the only indication to the storm, brewing within the remains of her shattered heart; crimson shards, glimmering and reflecting the gentle flicker of oranges, twisted in yellows and mingled in rivulets of ribbons of red.

"I'm…pregnant" a hard sob, and Elphaba turns away, her body quivers violently within the gentle scoop of Siefer's arms; a thundering crescendo to the pain thundering within, eviscerating what remained of her purity.

Siefer stiffened, feeling her arm slip from his grasp. She was falling away, slipping through his fingers. Grunting, his hand lowered and grasped firm onto hers, stilling her movement.

Stiffening, Elphaba turned, her long raven hair twisted lithely out of the bun, and billowed out around her, falling like cascading waves of ebony over her shoulder. Her eyes widened, and her lips thinned. He could see it, her pain, for it was liken to a wave, screaming like a banshee's wail crashed within the pools of warm chocolate, a chaotic symphony that no man or woman could quell.

A soft smile tugged at the corners of his lips, and his eyes softened as his hand rose, cupping her quivering cheek. For a moment, his eyes fluttered closed, feeling her skin beneath the pads of his fingers. A touch of silk he thought he would never feel again, for her touch, her feel was like warmth, the dawning rays of the midmorning sun, cresting just over the vanishing horizon.

"It doesn't matter Fae" whispers Siefer, his voice cracked, broken by shattered dreams. Weakly, his hand trembled, as his fingers rose, and threaded in the ebony river of silk and satin.

Inwardly he winced, for he could feel his heart crack, the small streams of crimson bubbling over the edges, spilling, and flowing down an invisible fault line; fine crystalline cracks forged by that of a broken soul.

A sob and Elphaba buries her head in the crook of Siefer's shirt, and for a moment, he stiffened. His eyes drifted to the side, and stared back at Galinda and Fiyero, standing but a few feet away, their eyes mirroring the shimmer of fear. A sob and Galinda nodded. Turning away, her hands rose and cupped over her eyes as she dissolved into tears of anguish.

Turning, Siefer's hand rose, and cupped the back of Elphaba's head. His eyes filled with tears as his other arm wrapped tight around her slender waist. His fingers splayed, and inwardly he gasped as his fingers spread across her chest. Oz, he could feel her ribs.

"Fae" unconsciously, his arm tightened around her waist, and his fingers curled, twisting a few strands of ebony around each knuckle. "When was the last time you ate?"

"I…I don't remember" whispers Elphaba weakly. Tears brimmed along the edge of her eyes, and her lips quivered, for the days had all merged into one, mingling and twisting violently, until all that remained, was a blur, a darkened oubliette of twisted dreams and shattered hopes. And truthfully, she much preferred the missing patchwork of her memories, to the twisted labyrinth which had led her to this broken existence.

"Fae" he was about to admonish her, when Elphaba's voice silenced him. Weakly, she pulled away; shattered chocolate glaring back into softened sapphire.

"Why are you here?" Her voice came out much harsher than intended. Inwardly, she winced seeing the pain flicker across Siefer's gentle features. Yet a part of her didn't care, for the rage bubbling, churning within could not be quelled by his tears.

She simply glared back at him, her eyes hard as steel, a hidden veil of gossamer mist, hiding, concealing the turbulence thundering within. Absently, her fingers lowered and curled around Siefer's. A grimace and she forces his hands away from her body.

"To rescue you" replies Siefer softly, his voice did little to hide the hurt, shimmering within at her simple gesture. She didn't wish to be touched, least of all by him, and that simple truth, shattered his heart all the more.

"I'm too lost to be saved now Siefer" was Elphaba's simple retort. Turning, she pulled herself to her full height, and wobbling, stepped awkwardly towards the bed.

Siefer watches as Elphaba's legs wobble, before giving beneath her. Snapping to his full height, he steps over to her side, his arms reach out, intent to scoop her up, before she crumples to the ground.

"Don't" growls Elphaba, her arm snaps out, and the palm of her hand presses hard against his chest, stilling him. Turning, she glares back at him. "I don't need your help"

"Fae" croaks Siefer.

"Don't call me that!" snarls Elphaba. Whipping around, she bangs her fists against Siefer's chest as crystalline tears flood her eyes. "Don't you ever call me that again! I hate you!"

Siefer stood there watching, his eyes like crystal mirrors, reflecting the hollow light of pain, shimmering within the glassy pools of darkened sapphire and soft cerulean. He would wait her out, for that was all he could do. The damage done by his hands was unforgivable, yet he would wait all eternity, forever and into beyond…for far longer than forever, until she finally forgave him for his trespasses made to her vulnerable heart.

"I'm so sorry Fae" whispers Siefer brokenly. That did it. Breaking down, Elphaba's legs gave out beneath her. Feeling her body crumple, his arms reached out and wrapped protectively around her sickening thin waist. Slowly, he helped her to the ground.

"Please…." Whispers Elphaba, her voice cracking slightly.

"What my love?" slowly, his hand rises and cups the back of her head. A misty veil slips over his vision, feeling his love shaking violently against his chest.

"Make it stop" whimpers Elphaba. "Make it go away please"

"Make what go away?" asks Siefer softly. Slowly, Elphaba lifted her gaze, and for a moment, stared softly into Siefer's eyes.

"The pain…make it go away" Turning, she pulls herself free from Siefer's arms. Her arms tremble as they rise and wind tight around her slender abdomen. "Tell me his name…I want to know" wings Elphaba softly.

Siefer stiffened, feeling Elphaba slip from his grasp. His eyes lowered and his arms fell limp to his sides. He looked like a broken doll, head hung low, limbs broken and snapped in different directions.

Hearing her voice, his head lifted and his dark, soulless eyes stared softly back at Elphaba's trembling form, sitting a few inches away.

"The way he looks…and where you go…I need to see his face…I need to understand why you and I came to an end"

Galinda's legs snap and give beneath her. Noticing her movement, Fiyero turns, and his arms wind tight around her slender waist. Gently, he helps ease her to the ground. A sob and she buries her face in his silken shirt.

"Tell me again…I want to hear…who broke my faith in all these years. Who lays with you at night while I'm here all alone" whispers Elphaba, her voice cracking slightly. "Remembering when I was your own"

"I let you go, I let you fly" whispers Siefer brokenly.

"Why do I keep on asking why" slowly, she turns to face Siefer, tears shimmer in her eyes, yet she made no move to wipe them away. "I let you go…now that I found a way to keep somehow more than a broken vow"

"Tell me the words I never said…show me the tears you never shed" slowly, Siefer extends his hand out towards Elphaba. "Give me the touch…that one you promised to be mine" sings Siefer imploringly.

"Or has it vanished for all time" shaking her head, Elphaba's hand rises and rests in the bowl of her lap. "I close my eyes and dream of you and I"

"And then I realize…there's more to love than only the bitterness and lies" whispers Siefer.

"I close my eyes" closing her eyes, a soft smile, starts to pull at the edges of her soft lips. Slowly, her hands rise out to the sides, and her fingers splay, dancing and manipulating the gilded rays of the sunlight streaming in through the windows. "I'd give away my soul to hold you once again"

"And never let this promise end" adds Siefer softly.

Elphaba's eyes flutter open, and for a moment, the two former lovers stare, empty chocolate, staring back into shattered sapphire; ying and yang, forbidden to ever touch the other.

"I let you go" whispers Elphaba brokenly. Absently, her hand lowers into Siefer's.

"I let you fly" Slowly, Siefer's fingers close around Elphaba's.

"Now that I know I'm asking why…I let you go…now that I found a way to keep somehow…more than this broken…vow" Elphaba's and Siefer's voice mingles into one, as the two slowly inch closer. An inch away and Siefer reaches out and winds his arm around Elphaba's slender waist. A gentle tug and he pulls her against him, and closing his eyes, crashing his lips against hers.

Noise could be heard out in the hallway. Curious, Galinda steps towards the door, and pulling it open, peeks her head out. Guards swarm the halls, each mounted with a violent weapon, the look of death, glaring in their muddy eyes.

"The savages from the Winkie Country have come and are somewhere here in the Palace…seek them out and kill them immediately…if they have the Crowned Princess…make sure she is unharmed or his Highness shall have our heads!" growls a man, his voice was greasy and creaky.

"Oh dear" turning, Galinda softly shuts the door and turns towards Siefer and Elphaba, sitting high on their hunches, staring softly into each other's eyes. "Ah…we have trouble"

"What…what are you talking about?" asks Siefer confused. Pulling away, he turns and stares confused back at Galinda.

"There's a swarm of guards out in the hallway…each armed with really nasty weapons" explains Galinda. Screwing up her face, her hand rises and combs through her hair. "Such disgustifying things…dirty…Oz knows what kind of icky things are on them"

"That's a fine thing to think of at a moment like this…how dirty their weapons are" smirks Fiyero.

"Well…girls gotta have standards"

"What are they going on about?" asks Siefer. Gently, he helps Elphaba up on her feet.

"Some greasy man was talking about Winkie Savages hiding in the Palace and to kill them on sight" frowning she glares back at Siefer. "I thought you said we would be alright!"

"I did!" sighs Siefer.

"Then why do they suddenly want your heads?" asks Galinda.

"Were Vinkuns remember…the Glikkus hates us" replies Fiyero, as if it were an obvious thing.

"But…the King and Queen" starts Galinda.

"Don't care if we're here to see Elphaba or not…even if we had been given permission by their Highness's to see Elphaba…the guards will not care…were on their land…that's all that matters" explains Siefer.

"You must leave" Startled, Siefer, Fiyero and Galinda turn and stare shocked back at Elphaba, folded protectively in her lovers arms.

"Fae…what?"

"You must go…all of you…before they find you" her voice held an edge of authority, yet hidden beneath, a silent pleading, a desperate cry for them to escape and leave her behind and face her fate alone.

"Not without you" replies Siefer gruffly.

"They'll kill you!" cries Elphaba.

"I don't care!" instantly, his hand rises an cups her cheek. "I've lost you once Fae…I will not lose you again"

"Siefer" whispers Elphaba brokenly.

"Please Elphie…come with us?" pleads Galinda.

The footsteps outside grow louder. It was only a matter of time, before guards would break down the door.

"I" stammers Elphaba.

"Either you leave with us…or we stand here and face our consequences…either way…I will not leave you behind again" replies Siefer.

"Siefer" whispers Elphaba.

A bang and everyone jumps.

"Princess Elphaba! Open this door immediately!"

"You have to go!" pleads Elphaba.

"Not without you"

"Open this door now!"

"Go!" cries Elphaba.

"No…we stand united" growls Siefer.

"Break the door down now!"

"Siefer!" cries Elphaba. A loud bang, and Elphaba's eyes widen.

"I will not leave you again" whispers Siefer. A creak and the door starts to give.

"Siefer" whispers Elphaba brokenly.

Another bang, another creak, and the door give. Crashing to the ground, the guards swarm the room, each one pointing their weapons of malice out in front of them.

"We have you now Savages"
