Chapter 50

"Shit Ty!" Daryl shouted still letting Andi lean on him, he was looking at Tyreese and behind him appeared Maggie "anyone else?" he asked, trying to see behind the man.

Ty shook his head "No" he said staring at the blood soaked woman in Daryl's arms and he asked the question again.

"Are you bit?" He said raising his gun slightly to the couple standing in front of him.

"No" Andi said angrily "ain't my blood. Ain't his blood either" she said leaning on Daryl. "Leg got trapped, that shop is a death trap."

Maggie pushed past Ty "Beth? Was Beth with you guys? Glenn?"

"Beth's with us, it ain't safe out here" Daryl raised his hands to Maggie's barrage of questions and looking down the street. "We gotta move" he said lifting Andi back up again and making a move for the alley that Beth was hiding is. "Ya comin'?" he shouted behind him at Ty and Maggie.

"Hell yes" Maggie said running after Daryl, she turned back around to Ty "Come on Tyreese, we all gotta stick t'gether now."

Ty nodded and moved after them all, clutching his trusty hammer "did you see Sasha?" He asked catching up with Daryl and the limping Andi.

"I didn't see her, sorry Ty" Andi muttered trying not to put pressure on her foot "I think I remember Beth saying that she saw her with Glenn, I'm sure they will be ok."

Ty slowed down "Yeah, hope so" he said sadly.

"Beth?" Maggie whispered in the alley "Bethy?" she said again and sighed when the blonde appeared from behind the dumpster.

"Maggie?" came Beth's voice from her hiding place, she clutched the puppy to her chest and peeked around the dumpster "Maggie!" she shrieked and ran to embrace her sister, the pair holding onto one another tightly.

"What's this?" Maggie pulled away from her sister to find the puppy wrapped in the blanket.

"I found it, in the dumpster, I can look after it, get him healthy again" Beth said looking at each member of the group, almost pleading with them to let her keep it.

"You gotta look after it" Andi said as she leaned against the wall, elevating her foot on a pile of rubbish that was near her "don't expect one us to" she said "what is it?"

Beth uncovered the puppy "German Shepherd, can't be anymore than a few weeks old, there are two dead ones in there" she said pointing at the dumpster. "I'll look after him, I'll find his food, I can go back to that shop and see if they have anything in there."

"I wouldn't be going back there Beth" Daryl said looking at the puppy "let me see" he said taking the pup from Beth arms and cradling it like a baby. "Yeah I'd say only a few weeks old, he needs food, his mama's milk" he gave the puppy back to Beth and looked at her sadly "I wouldn't get too attached Beth, unless we can find somethin' to give it nourishment" he shook his head "it wont survive."

Beth looked at Maggie "I'll nurse him back to health, I'll get the food, the milk, I can't just leave him."

Andi nodded "you thought of a name?"

Beth looked at the puppy and patted him head "Hershey" she said as it tried to nibble her hand.

Everyone, including Maggie just started at the girl "like Hershey's kisses" she gave them a weak smile.

"Well, welcome to the family Hershey" Andi smiled and without thinking tried to walk on her foot, only to cry out in pain and be caught once again by Daryl. "Thank you" she said straightening up.

"Did anyone see Glenn?" Maggie now asked desperately "did he make it out?"

"I saw him and Sasha" Beth looked up from the puppy "they were runnin' towards the cells, to the tombs."

"But he was alive when you saw him?" Maggie asked, Beth nodded "yeah, well he was runnin'."

"Your foot could be broken" Daryl said to Andi, looking down at the foot in question "we gotta find somewhere to hold up, take a look, we can work out what to do from there."

The group nodded and agreed, they needed to take a bit of time to figure out the next move, do they continue to the prison and possibly to Sasha and Glenn or make there way to the farm and hope that is where everyone was heading to?

They went to the house at the furthest end of the street, with Ty and Daryl going inside to check it out and get rid of any walkers that might be lurking in there.

"It's clear" Daryl said coming out of the door, he went straight to Andi and helped her up the stairs and into the house, only letting her go when she was sitting on one of the lounges in the family room.

"Not sure I should take my boot off" she said as Daryl knelt in front of her undoing the laces.

"We need to know the extent of the injury, if it's just a sprain then we should be ok, if it's something more.." he trailed off "this is gonna hurt." He had removed all of the laces and opened the boot up as much as he could, he looked up at Andi and pulled the boot off.

"AAAAGGGHH MOTHERFU..." Andi screamed "shit that..." she looked down at her foot and just stared. It was swollen and already starting to bruise "oh that's not good" she sighed leaning back in the chair.

Daryl examined her foot carefully and gently looked it over "I don't think anything's broken but its taken a bit of a beatin'" he said "you do need to rest it, keep it elevated."

Andi gave him a confused look "we gotta keep moving, don't have time for this" she sat up, she looked at the redneck "how do you know so much about this kind of stuff anyways?" she asked. It was something that she had always wondered, every now and again he would come out with some medical talk that totally made you forget he was supposed to be just a dumb redneck.

Daryl's face flushed red and he immediately stood up "I um.. I know stuff man, I listen" he frowned, pointing to his head "an' I read."

"It's good to listen" Andi said trying to wiggle her toes, she smiled when she managed to without pain shooting up her leg.

"How long we gonna stay here?" Maggie asked Ty and Daryl in kitchen, leaving Andi and Beth in the family room.

"She needs to be able to at least walk on that foot" Daryl said shaking his head "she can't put any pressure on it at the moment, we need ta get it supported somehow, bandages or somethin'."

"We could try goin' back to that shop" Ty suggested "you're ready for it this time. And you have Maggie and I."

Daryl thought for a moment and finally nodded "yeah, lets do it" he picked up his crossbow and made for the door, followed by Maggie and Ty.

Andi wanted to come with them but even she understood the importance of being able to walk and run, so she stayed with Beth and Hershey.

Daryl, Maggie and Ty made their way back to the shop.

"We stick together" Daryl said "clear the place and then set about findin' everythin'" Maggie and Ty both nodded, readying themselves.

It took them a good half an hour to make sure that the building was cleared but once it was they found everything they could have needed.

"How come we didn't find this place before?" Ty asked as he shoved medical supplies into the new backpack he had found. There was a bag for each person and for now each bag was filled with one kind of item; medical, batteries/flashlights/wire/ropes, a number of bags with food, including puppy food for Hershey and a bag filled with bottled water.

"We can re-use the bottles" Daryl said "just boil the water."

Once they had stocked up they made their way back to the house at the end of the street and found that Andi was now cradling Hershey while Beth was no-where to be seen.

"Where's Beth?" Maggie asked desperately.

"Upstairs" Andi nodded "lookin' for blankets for this one, he shakes a lot."

"Here" Daryl had gone to the kitchen and made up some of the puppy formula and handed it to Andi who carefully held it out for the tiny puppy, it drank whole heartedly.

While Andi was feeding Hershey, Daryl again knelt in front of her and as delicately as he could, bandaged her foot.

Andi smiled "thanks."

The five survivors stayed there for a few more days before Andi was able to put pressure on her foot, in that time Daryl and Ty had managed to find a mini van and fill it with gas and fill a un-used drum with gas as a back up. They had split the supplies into each bag which each person would have so that if anyone got split up they had the essentials for a few days at least, food, light and water. Andi also had both her machetes back, which made her very happy.

"It's like when you forget to put your watch on, I feel naked without them both" she smiled, twisting them around in her hands.

Daryl grinned to himself, something about how happy she was now she had her weapons back made him smile, it was like a child being allowed to have their toys back.

"What are you grinning at?" Andi asked him as she walked past him, ready to climb into the van.

Daryl blushed again "nothin'" he said putting his head down and walking even quicker to the van, giving Andi a quick glance before jumping in the front seat.

"Come on Dixon" he muttered to himself "she broke your heart" he shook his head as if to try and get the thoughts out of his head and started the van. "C'mon" he shouted to everyone who were making their way slowly to the vehicle. "We're loosin' the light" he banged on the side of the van.

Andi smiled again to herself and climbed up into the back of the van. It was pretty spacious but with five of them they needed something slightly bigger, no-one was even sure if they would even make it to the farm, but they would get as close as they could, then have to walk the rest of the way.

The trip to the prison was un-eventful, they sat in silence, the only noise coming from Beth and Hershey. They could see a few walkers scattered along the road and getting closer to the prison there were more and more but nothing to worry to group about. They managed to drive half way up to the prison but were stopped by the cars that were left scattered by the governors army. There were a few walkers dotted around the prison but nothing that the five couldn't handle.

"Beth" Daryl leaned around to look at the youngster "you can come or stay, but I'm not sure Hershey should come, he'll be safe here."

"Here, put him in this under the seat" Maggie handed her sister a small box "I don't think he's strong enough to make any noise anyway."

Beth gave the puppy a quick cuddle, put him in the box and jumped out of the van, straight away the group had to take down walkers that were congregating around the van. They were easily taken down.

Once up at the prison they made a run for C-Block, any walkers that were in the block would have come from the tombs as they would not have been able to get in through the huge metal doors and security gate.

Daryl lead the group, followed by Ty, then Maggie and Beth in the middle with Andi bringing up the rear. The inside of the cell block had a few walkers wandering around per area and were easily taken down by Daryl and Ty. As they made their way through each section, Andi would close and secure the doors behind her.

"I don't think we're gonna find anyone" Ty said almost sadly, he was worried about his sister, she was the only family he had left now. They slowly made their way through the winding corridors only stopping when they came up to a massive group of walkers.

"Back! Back! Back!" Daryl whispered, spinning around and following the rest of the group back around the corner. Andi moved up to the front and knelt next to Daryl.

"What was it?" she whispered. Daryl motioned with his head for her to look around the corner. She leaned across him as he hugged the wall "oh shit" she whispered, leaning back, her hand resting on his leg. "It's déjà vu" she grinned remembering back to when she first arrived at the prison and Daryl took her down into the heart of the prison.

"Did they see us?" he asked her looking back at the group who had retreated father down the corridor.

She shook her head "I don't think so, too many this time though, to take 'em on. Best bet is back, up and out. I don't think anyone's gonna be down here."

Daryl sighed and shook his head "I agree, best we keep t' the plan and keep movin'."

Andi nodded "I take the rear, make sure these bastards don't follow."

She followed Daryl back to the group "we gonna make a move back to the van and out" Daryl whispered. The group nodded "Ty" Daryl stepped up the big man "You remember the way out?" Ty nodded.

"I used to come down here a lot, checkin' it out" Ty grinned.

"Good, Andi and I will take the rear and follow you guys in little bit" he paused "just in-case they turn and come this way" Daryl turned to Andi and they both nodded a silent acknowledgement between them, knowing what needed to be done.

"Let's get out of here" Maggie said quietly as she and Beth followed Ty back down the corridor.

"What's in your head?" Andi asked him when the other were gone, curious why he had decided to stay back.

"It was down there" he pointed to the opposite end of the corridor, away from the herd of walkers "that I found Carol when she got lost after T-Dog got bit." Daryl whispered edging again towards the end of the corridor and where the horde of walkers were just standing. "It's a pretty safe spot, Sasha, Glenn, Rick might have made it down there. They would have wanted to come" he shook his head "I need to know the person that follows me down there can get out."

"You're forgettin' the shop Daryl" Andi said quickly, massaging her shoulder.

"Stop feelin' sorry for yourself" Daryl said harshly "the only person I could do this with is you" he paused "you got my back enough times."

Andi bit her lip and nodded, he was right, she gripped her trusty machetes and took in a deep breath.

This was gonna be interesting.
