Chapter 58

Rosalie POV

It was later in the week and the Gryffindor and Ravenclaw students were having their first Defence Against the Dark Arts lesson with none other than the pink troll as their teacher.

That's right, pink topped overly enthusiastic Umbridge was back. Ever since the new school term had begun the Minister believed that Hogwarts needed help; so he sent Umbridge to not only become their new teacher, but also to become a supervisor.

And Umbridge, well she was terrible, worse so than Lockhart. He was an idiot on the sense of being an idiot, she was making terrible decisions because it was something she wanted.

"But Miss, this book doesn't say anything about using defensive spells." Hermione said bewildered. The book she had given them was called Defensive Spells for Beginners and Hermione was right as all it seemed to do was describe them. Nothing in the book explained how to actually get them to work, was that not the point of this class?

"Of course not my dear. Why would you need to use them?" She told her in her sickly sweet voice.

Oh I don't know, maybe because first and foremost Wizards should know how to use magic. Secondly, because their was an evil snake man and his followers trying to kill people? They both seemed pretty valid.

I growled. Bella had just met the women and I already hated her. I can't imagine how Bella felt.

Hermione just looked at her like she was crazy.

"Well how are we supposed to learn how to defend ourselves if we're not being taught actual spells to do so?" Harry questioned her as she walked past him.

"Students will raise their hands in my classroom!" Umbridge scolded rudely, her face scrunching up before putting on another fake smile.

Bella sighed to herself before lifting up her own hand and waiting for the older woman to take notice. "Yes, Ms. Potter?" She asked indignantly, as if she couldn't even believe some dared to question her authority.

"Like Harry said, we can't exactly defend ourselves if we're not being taught how to use them defensive spells."

And who do you think would want to hurt children like yourself?" I could name a few. I don't think all things considered Voldemort has the moral compass to spare children's lives on the account of their age; after all, he did try to kill two babies.

"Hmm." Harry said thinking out loud for a moment for show, "I don't know how, about Lord Voldemort."

Umbridge gasped loudly at his comment and the rest of the class stared and gaped at him.

"Listen," She spoke her voice going soft, too soft so it almost sounded angry, "You have been told that a certain dark wizard has returned and I would like to tell you that this is all lies."

"So Cedric Diggory just dropped down dead on his own accord?!" Bella yelled at her; her eyes sad from the too recent memory, but blazing with anger.

"Cedric Diggory's death was a tragic accident." She sniffed, like it didn't matter at all.

"Oh come on, how are people so ready to accept that bullshit! A tragic accident how?" I called out in frustration.

"It was murder-" He got cut off quickly.

"Stop it! Detention! Both of you at the end of the day. Now go to Professor McGonagall's office and she will decide what to do with you." She glared at them and slowly raised her arm to point a chubby finger at the large stone doors.

Bella growled angrily deep in her throat and glared at the woman in the brightly offending pink outfit. Harry quickly got up to follow his sister, but not before giving a polite nod Neville, whom sat next to Bella.

"I really hate that bitch." I snarled as they walked down the corridor.

"That I agree with." Esme said as well, her face was sad at the thought of a someone being so cruel. Just the fact alone that Esme agreed with my commentary showed how awful Dolores was; she was far too kind of a person to throw insults, I on the other hand had no issue.

"What sort of teacher wouldn't show you how to use defensive spells if that was their job?" Jasper asked confused at the situation.

Obviously this idiotic one. What on earth was the Ministry thinking?

The two of them carried on walking until they reached the room that I presume belonged to Professor McGonagall. They knocked on the door twice before entering. The room was white and black; with few photos on her desk and some lining the walls.

"Sit down." She instructed calmly, "So I heard that you yelled at Professor Umbridge during her Defence against the dark arts class."

"Yes Professor." They both answered in sync.

"You called her a liar?" She asked, raising an eyebrow slightly.

"Well, one could definitely perceive it that way." Bella said quietly, Harry winced and nodded along beside her.

There were a few moments of silence.

"Have a biscuit." She told them pushing forwards a small bowl of vile human food.

"A biscuit?" Harry repeated confused. I suppose he thought she should be mad at them.

"Yes. Have a biscuit."

"And this is why McGonagall is clearly the best head of house." Emmett cheered and even I couldn't help but laugh. She had the sense to clearly dislike Umbridge, and that made her pretty impressive.

"Now Mr. Potter, Ms. Potter as much as I know that I should be telling you off, I also agree that Dolores Umbridge isn't fit to teach here and neither are her teaching techniques. So, have a biscuit."

Bella and Harry reached in and grabbed one of the pale biscuits and began munching on them.

"But do try not to lash out on her again if you wish to avoid detention, it is my best guess that you will surely want to spend little time with her. Now, next lesson will be starting surely so I would be off if I were you."

Briefly on the subject of Umbridge and their detention we arrived at that very moment the following second.

"Ah Ms. Potter, Mr. Potter take a seat." Umbridge said overly sweetly as she directed them into her office. Like the woman herself, the office was pink; pink walls, pink chairs, pink flooring. Even the sugar she used for her tea was pink. And to top it off, the wall furthest back was covering in plates… of cats…

I grimaced.

"You'll be writing lines for me today. I want you to each write, I must not tell lies." She told them, her nose in the air screaming an overly sense of authority.

"You didn't give us any ink." Harry told her, picking up the quill that she had given them.

"It is a special quill that you won't need ink for." Her bright attitude continued as she sat down with her pink tinted cup of tea.

So basically, it was a pen.

Bella had written down one line when she started twitching and moving her hand awkwardly. A red rash like blob bloomed over her hand. Over on her right side, Harry was gritting his teeth in pain.

Moments later, on the redness of her skin, words began to appear as though being carved on by an invisible knife.

'I must not tell lies'

Bella whimpered quietly, dropping the quill quickly. Harry looked over at his sister and saw tears in her eyes, and her skin a brilliant red that could compete with the Weasley's hair. His own skin burned as if he stuck it on a burning stove, he ignored it in favour of glaring out the pink monstrosity. She herself was smirking to herself with great joy.

Edward glared as Bella whimpered in pain, he looked as if we were about to sink his teeth into the woman.

On any other circumstances I might laugh at his expression but I was too caught up in my own anger to care at all.

"That…bitch! If I saw her I would give her a piece of my mind!" I barked, a suppressed growl. I couldn't help but storm towards the pink cloaked bitch.

"You can try but it's not going to do anything." Jasper called out to me as a reminder but I ignored him anyway. I started kicking and punching; my hand went straight through. I ignored that and carried on anyway

"Rose!" Emmett called to me. Again I ignored anything that was going on around me. He sighed and walked over, gently picking me up and walking me back to where I had been standing before I attempted to brutally attack the woman.

"That is abuse!" Alice shrieked at the top of her lungs, "I'm with Rosalie! If that woman were here right now-" She disappeared into a furious mumble of insults.

"I'd give her a taste of my fist." Emmett mumbled beside me, his fists clenched at his sides.

"Children calm down." Carlisle hushed us as he pulled his tearful wife to his side.

"Remember; deep down inside you know that you deserve this. One mustn't tell lies." She whispered with a fake smile and an overly cheery voice.

Once again I growled in her direction as I imagined pulling her apart piece by piece. It helped.

The scene change before I could do anything else. We now stood in one of the hallways; upon the wall were hundreds of commands which had been framed and hung.

Boys and girls are not permitted to be together. There must be at least six inches between each of these students.

What?

Any student with the magazine "The Quibbler" in their possession will be expelled.

"What's The Quibbler?" Jasper asked his brows furrowed.

"A magazine, I think." Esme murmured beside him.

"Wait. So she would expel a student for reading a certain magazine? That's completely barbaric" I was getting more and more pissed off as this memory went on.

The idiocy continued: All students must consent to the content of their letters and packages to be searched before arrival in search of illegal or threatening items. Music is forbidden to be played during any and all study hours. Items of non-education value is to be banned, anything made by 'non-wizards' or half-breeds' is not permitted into the school.

Students are forbidden from talking about the upsetting events of last year. Can you believe it! How ignorant could a person be?!

"I can't believe she actually did it." Hermione gasped as she and Bella stood along the corridor looking up at all the educational decrees. "Then she goes and fires Professor Trowley and attempts to force her to leave the school grounds!" The bushy haired girl continued to rant.

"I know! She's taken over the school!" Bella yelled in anger and disbelief, "All her rules are completely idiotic in the first place. Like, No teacher is allowed to talk to a student about a subject they are not paid to teach."

Hermione nodded in agreement and glanced down. Bella's hand then captured her attention.

"Bella what happened to your hand?" She exclaimed, her eyes widening.

Bella glanced down at the blotchy red skin that had yet to heal. "Nothing." Bella lied, and quickly tugged the sleeve of her uniform down over her hand. She raised her other hand when Hermione glanced away.

"Not that one, the other hand. Show me!" Hermione commanded the moment Harry walked by.

Harry quickly turned around at the sight of the commotion. He ignored his sister and kept walking when she shouted, "Harry!"

Whilst Bella was distracted Hermione grabbed the hand that was balled into a fist and hidden under the sweater. "Bella you can't let her do that, you have to tell somebody. Dumbledore perhaps-"

"You mean the same Dumbledore who has been avoiding me ever since we got here? Hermione it's not that easy."

"But…"

"No. Just drop it Hermione." Bella snapped sternly before walking away leaving a frazzled Hermione alone.

"I don't get why they just don't tell Dumbledore. He's the Headmaster, surely he can kick her out." Emmett said.

"The Ministry's claws are already in to deep, look at all the rules they've already made. If Dumbledore, or any teacher says something, she'll likely just find it as another accusation against the Minister and they'll just make things worse; add more rules, make things harder for the students." Edward explained, still mad that Bella was once in pain for something she hadn't done.

"Oh," Emmett said nodding.

As Bella walked past us the scene became fuzzy and once again changed. Bella, Harry, Ron, and Hermione were now walking into an old looking pub; they shook the snow off their heads as they walked into the shabby building. It was practically deserted apart from the workers and an odd person drinking in the corner.

"Why are we doing this Hermione? Everyone just thinks we're crazy anyway." Harry whined as they sat down.

Hmm… what were they doing?

Hermione hushed him as she pulled a chair out from under one of the tables near the back of the room.

"How many people are supposed to be coming anyway?" Ron asked her.

"Just a few." Was Hermione's short response.

The four of them sat in silence until the door slammed open. Startled, Bella looked up to find students entering one by one.

Fred and George came in, each had a mischievous sparkle in they're eyes. Luna and Ginny came in together with Luna gently tugging Neville with her. Cho, Cedric's date to the ball, came in with a group of people I didn't know the names of. Once everyone had sat down, Hermione got up and began speaking.

"The truth is that Voldemort is back and we have to learn how to defend ourselves, with Umbridge teaching we are not learning anything. And that's why we need a teacher, a proper teacher." Hermione said looking towards Harry and then Bella.

A few people in the crowd looked interested in what Hermione had to say. Others were starting to look bored or staring at Harry and Bella, itching to know more about them.

"So you believe You-know-who is back? Because they said-" A boy from the front of the crowd got cut off as Hermione glared at them.

"Because Dumbledore said."

"Because Dumbledore said because they said. Maybe we could learn more if they told us more about Diggory's death." The same boy replied back, his face set in a hard glare desperate to hear the story.

The two of them looked uncomfortable but in the end it was Harry who decided to speak. "We're not here to talk about Cedric's death so if that's what your here for then just leave." He looked over at Hermione and whispered in her ear, "Come on Hermione let's just leave; they're only here because they think we're crazy."

"Sit down." Hermione glared at him.

"Is it true that you can produce a Patronus?" Luna spoke up and asked in her typically dreamy toned voice.

"Blimey, I didn't know that you could do that." Dean's mouth opened in surprise and the mood in the room suddenly shifted; other people in the room looked more intrigued, their eyes widening.

This prompted several people from around the room to announce off their achievements.

"And last year they really did fight off You-know-who." Hermione spoke again in a tone of authority, "And so if you really want to be able to defend yourself against what's out there then-" Her voice drifting off as she turned to look at the two of them again.

"Alright listen up," Bella stood up on a chair to get their attention. "It…it sounds really great when you put it like that, but- but it's different when you're out there, actually fighting. When you're out there, it isn't like school. You can't correct your mistakes and try again the next day. This is real. This permanent and it's going to be dangerous."

"Bella…" Hermione tried to argue.

"No Hermione." Bella huffed climbing off the chair to sit back down.

Neville stood up all eyes glued to him, "You're right, it is dangerous but it will only be worse if we don't learn how to protect ourselves."

Bella and Harry wearily looked at each other before nodding forcefully. They clearly understood his reasoning but that didn't mean they had to like it.

"Great," Hermione nodded. "Now we'll talk about things in more detail later. For now, if you want to sign up then leave your name on this paper," She held the piece of paper up. "And if you don't well…don't tell anybody." With that everyone stood up, a few people scattered but the large majority stayed to form a lone.

"What exactly are they signing up for?" Jasper asked curiously.

"I believe it's some sort of defence against the dark arts club." Carlisle said answering his question. With Harry and Bella as their teachers.

It took a few minutes for everyone to get through to be able to sign the paper. In the end there were just a few more than twenty names. After that, everyone left the bar except Ginny, Neville and Fred and George; plus the four of them.

"So where do we practice?" Neville asked.

"The Shrieking Shack, maybe?" Ginny offered.

Harry shook his head, "No, too small."

As they discussed their plans they left the pub and began walking back towards the castle. "We'll all try and come up with a few ideas and then come together to discuss which is best. So be on the lookout." Bella directed and they all nodded.

"Well at least we all know one thing good that came out of tonight." Hermione said gleefully with a wide smile spreading on her face.

"And what's that?"

"Cho couldn't keep her eyes off of you." Hermione answered still smiling. Ginny's face however fell.

Wait… did she have a thing for Harry?

"Awww! That's cute." Alice cooed.

"What is?" Emmett asked.

"Isn't it obvious? Ginny likes Harry!"

Bella's POV

The silence was overbearing.

'Tick tock, tick tock'

Apart from the clock there were no other external sounds.

By now the Cullens were probably half way through the memory. Umbridge had most likely arrived and they were probably just finishing up the meeting for Dumbledore's Army.

There was nothing to do as I waited for the Cullens. I had quickly showered again, desperate to get the dirt and grime from off my skin even when I knew it was all in my head, scrubbing until my milky pale skin flushed red. I had then eaten and attempted to sleep but such pleasantries refused come easy. I was too nervous and still too wired up for my brain to relax long enough for my mind to shut off. Nervous that the Cullens would be disgusted by my actions in fifth year and they would realize their mistake of letting me back into their life after all, all I brought with me was danger and destruction.

It was my fault Sirius had died. If we had never gone the order wouldn't have had to come and save us.

Which also meant Bellatrix would never have hit Sirius and he would still be alive. Something wet trickled down my cheek as I thought of my deceased Godfather. Bringing my hand up to against my cheek I then realised that it was a tear. I was crying.

"No, no, no, no." It wasn't my fault. Sometimes it felt that way, I often blamed myself I didn't know any other way. What happened to Sirius was an accident. What happened that year was beyond my control.

Sometimes people died and it was tragic but it was not all my burden to bare. I had to stop blaming myself.

Coming back down from my almost moment of hysteria I somehow managed to calm down enough for my vision to blur and my eyes to drift. I ended up falling into an endless slumber but instead of happy dreams, they were al nightmares.

The images flashed by under my eyelids.

Lying on the forest floor after Edward left.

Sirius's final breath as the green light pierced his heart, leaving him to fall through the veil.

Cedric in graveyard, his eyes still open as his chest went unmoving.

Even things that hadn't happened clouded my nightmares.

Alice with her head torn off, Carlisle with the ends of his corn-starch blonde hair burnt black. Emmett with several limbs missing.

More came and went, flashing along faster and faster as my feared state grew.

Aro laughing gleefully as he stood above them, his red eyes piercing mine as-

I woke with a jerk, landing on the floor besides to the pristine white couch. My heart was beating like a drum and I dashed to the bathroom narrowly in time for my lunch to reach the toilet.

"Calm down, calm down." I murmured to myself resting my head against the rim of the bathtub, breathing slowly, trying to calm my heart.

Nightmares were nothing new, I guess killing the man responsible for your tormented past didn't destroy the everlasting memories but dreams about the Volturi….they weren't the same of course, I wasn't connected to Aro like I had been Voldemort, this was all just my fears opposed to visions but was there any chance that maybe it meant something?

The Volturi aren't gone yet. They're still out there.

Waiting.

2018- updated

The following chapters are previously beta'd so It's possible I might get through editing them quicker than the last. In other news, I am happy to have gotten to fifth year. It's always ben my favourite of the movies/books and I enjoyed writing it most.
