The girls lay on their backs by the small river behind the cottage in the mountains, staring up at the stars as they talked softly into the dark.

"What do you miss most, Mae?" Mari thought for a minute, pondering the question.

"Hot showers. Electricity. Modern medicine. You?"

"Tacos." Su whispered the word like a benediction.

"Tacos?"

The once-younger, now older girl nodded, eyes narrowing at the stars. "I would kill somebody for a taco."
