Chapter 52 (The good and bad)
Thanks to everyone that left a review on my last chapter, I appreciated them all. Hope this one meets expectations. Enjoy :P
For the rest of the afternoon, Carly sat back, and unsure how to respond to Sam and Marisa's relationship. Carly was curious if Freddie's mom only acted normal around Sam and weird around everyone else. "Maybe she has had a change in personality." She thought to herself as she watched the two of them interact with one another. Sam and Marisa went on and on about Sam's scholarship, as Carly sat there watching them. Freddie was amused at the two of them together; interacting and seemingly having a good time. Freddie didn't mind, he was actually glad they had found common ground to relate to one another, because it meant that he wasn't going to have to deal with endless fighting between them. Spencer was a little shocked at the sight of them, but quickly accepted the idea, and had engaged in conversation with them in minutes of finding out.
At about six o-clock Freddie and his mom had gone back home; Spencer had retreated to his room to finish up on an art project he had to have done in the morning; leaving Sam and Carly in the living room by themselves on the couch; engrossed in an episode of Girly Cow. Even though Carly was fully into watching the show, she still had questions about Sam and Marisa running around in her mind. Questions she needed answers to. Finally the questions Carly had got the best of her, and decided to ask Sam.
"Sam...?"
"What's up...?" She answered with her attention still on the show.
"Can I ask you a question?" Carly asked as she adjusted herself on the couch.
"Shoot..."
"Why?...How?...I mean..."
"This is about Marisa and me isn't it?" Sam asked; cutting her off.
"Yeah...I mean...I'm happy you two are getting along, but I just can't wrap my mind around it...Ya know?"
"Like I told you. I Didn't understand it right away either. After Freddie left there in his house alone with her so he could let you know I was okay; which I had every intention killing him for. Marisa came into the living room and sat down next to me. Since I wasn't able to move, I braced myself for some kind of speech on safety and responsibility." Sam explained.
"But nothing could have been further from the truth. After she sat down. She told me how she felt about me..."
"So what exactly did she say that was so awesome that it changed your mind over night about her?" Carly asked intrigued; wanting to know more.
"She said she viewed me as the daughter she never had, and had for some time; given the fact that Freddie and I had been dating one another for awhile." Sam said with a smile starting to form on her face.
Carly was still having trouble understanding how the person Sam seemed to loath the most was the very person she seemed the closest to now. Sam noticed her perplexed look that was on Carly's face.
"Carl's...let me explain it in a different way." She said as she adjusted herself on the couch so she could continue the story in comfort.
"You know my mom and how she acts right?" Sam asked.
"Yeah...so?"
"Well my mom isn't what you would call a normal mom...yeah she loves me, and I love her too. But she has never treated me like I mattered; not even Melanie was left out on that one. I know we have been trying to fix things, but I never had anyone one tell me how special I was; except Freddie, but he don't count. Marisa expressed that to me, and I don't know... it felt nice." Sam explained.
"So she doesn't go all weird on you like she does Freddie?" Carly asked.
"No...She acts normal around me, and that's why we're close. I guess it's because it gives us something we both never had the chance to have before. For me it was a mom I could talk to, and for her it was getting the daughter she always wished she had. We kind of balance each other out." Sam said; hoping it made as much sense to Carly as it did her.
Carly sat back into the couch; pondering all that Sam had told her. After analyzing Sam's explanation about it, Carly could see where it was possible for them to have become what they are now. Not to mention they shared a common element together...Freddie. The both of them cared for him deeply.
"I get it...and Sam."
"Yeah...?"
"I'm happy for you...you deserve it." Carly said.
"Want to go kill a couple of Smoothies...I'm buying." Sam asked.
"The great Sam Puckett is offering to pay for Smoothies? Maybe Marisa has changed you." Carly said smartly.
"No...I got Freddie's wallet, and since he always pays...why should he stop now?" She asked as she held up his wallet for Carly to see.
"Same ole Sam." Carly thought to herself as they made their way out of the apartment and down to the Groovy Smoothie.

Freddie was in his room scanning through all the emails he had received from all the colleges he had applied to. He figured after all that had gone on at Carly's Sam and Carly would want a little alone time to discuss everything, or catch up on gossip as Carly called it. As he was browsing through the emails, Freddie ran across one from M.I.T. He read it, and couldn't believe what he was reading.
"Dear Mr. Benson:
We have received your application, and would like to extend an opportunity for you to attend M.I.T in the fall. However, given the amount of applications we have received this year, we will need to hear from you within two weeks.
Sincerely Dr. Hartman. Admissions department.
Freddie was instantly excited and was jumping around his room totally elated over his acceptance. He wanted to run over to Carly's to tell Sam the good news. Suddenly his excitement faded, and came crashing down around him.
"What am I going to tell Sam?" Freddie asked himself; realizing M.I.T. would take him across the country, and away from where Sam would be attending college.
Freddie sat down on his bed; feeling confused and unsure how to tell Sam. He had always wanted to go to M.I.T. for as long as he could remember, or at least as far back when he first learned on what kind of school it was. He had always dreamt of going, and applied there not really expecting to get accepted. But here he was. Accepted; sitting on his bed, and trying to decide whether or not to tell Sam right away or wait for an opportunity that would be right for that kind of news. Freddie; although it was hard, put the thought out of his mind, and tried to think of something else. So he decided to take a walk, and clear his head.

Gibby and Dianne were getting ready for their future together. They had decided to get married just before they graduated and didn't want to tell anyone until they had a chance to figure everything out. They had decided that Gibby would get a job while Dianne finished school, and then Gibby would quit his job and take up college full time while Dianne went to work.
"So...Dianne, when do you want to tell the gang about us getting married?" He asked.
"Well...we're having an August wedding; and it's June now, so I guess now is as good as time as any." She said as she joined him on the couch in his mom's living room.
"Okay...let's invite everyone over. We can have a Bar-B-Que this weekend in the back yard. Gibby said, as he cuddled up to her as she sat down next to him on the couch.

It was Friday afternoon, and Carly was sitting in the studio with Sam, going through all the viewers emails, when Carly's pocket started playing her favorite song from Cuddle-Fish; indicating someone was calling her. She desperately tried to get the phone out of her pocket, but having trouble with it. "Stupid skinny jeans" She thought to herself angrily.
"You going to just dance to the song, or are you going to answer your phone?" Sam asked; amused at the sight.
"Can it Sam!" She hollered, just before getting to her phone. The ringing stopped, and Carly checked the caller ID.
"Who was it?" Sam asked as Carly was looking down at the screen.
"Gibby...I'm going to call him back and find out what he wanted." Carly said, as she dialed his number.
"Hey Gibb...what did you want?" She asked, as she ran her hand through her hair; not escaping Sam's attention.
"Tomorrow at noon? Okay I'll ask...talk to you later." She said just before hanging up.
"Someone looks a little excited over a phone call." Sam said; using air quotes with her fingers; emphasizing the word excited.
"Yeah...whatever. Think what you want. You're going to think what you want anyway." She said as she rolled her eyes at Sam's comment.
So...you going to tell me what he wanted? Or are we going to play twenty questions?" Sam asked.
"He wants to have a Bar-B-Que at his house tomorrow in his mom's back yard around noon. He said he would be grilling ham and steaks." Carly said.
"Well...I can tell you me and Freddie will be there...even if Freddie doesn't want to." Sam said; already excited about it.

Freddie had been walking around town a little while; mulling over and over in his mind on when he should tell Sam about the offer from M.I.T. It was bothering him, and knew he couldn't go to his mom, because she would most likely tell Sam about it. It wasn't the way he wanted Sam to find out. Freddie was feeling hungry and made his way to the five and diner for a light meal.
"Maybe getting something to eat will help me. It always seemed to work for Sam." He thought to himself. As he was sitting down at the bar, he got a text message from Sam.
SAM: Hey Fred Buns, we got invited to Gibby's for a Bar B Q. We R going.
FREDDIE: When is it?
SAM: Tomorrow noon.
FREDDIE: K I have some news for U
SAM: What news?
FREDDIE: Talk 2 U later about it.
SAM: K Later when?
FREDDIE: As in not now lol How about in 2 hrs?
SAM: Fine. Where do U want 2 meet?
FREDDIE: The Groovy
SAM: K
Freddie hung up his phone and was unsure if he wanted to tell her about the news, or wait. "She'd be excited...I know she would." He thought to himself.
"We can work things out." He thought. His thoughts were interrupted by the waitress.
"Can I get you anything to drink?" She asked.
"Sure. A Peppy cola." He said.
Moments later she returned with his drink and asked him for his order.
"I'll just have a basket of fries." He said.
She left to get his order of fries, as Freddie's mind went back to the task at hand...telling Sam.
After finishing his fries, Freddie had made his decision to tell Sam at the Groovy Smoothie. She had to know, and he wanted her input on the subject.
XXX
Sam was already at the Groovy Smoothie with Carly when she texted him, so she asked Carly to leave when it was close to Freddie showing up.
"Why do I have to leave?"
"Because..."
"Because why...?"
"If you must know. Mama needs a little Freddie time...know what I mean?" She asked as she wiggled her eyebrows up and down.
"Yeah yeah. I'll catch up with you later; that is unless you get occupied for the rest of the night. Then I'll just see you tomorrow at Gibby's" Carly said with a sly grin on her face as she got up to leave.
Carly left Sam sitting there waiting for Freddie, Sam didn't like waiting around, because she hated to be bored. She figured if she was going to be bored she could just sleep until she had something to do. Unfortunately she couldn't go to sleep at the Groovy Smoothie, so she would have to pass the time with Smoothie's. "Glad I have his wallet, I can at least eat something." She thought to herself. Freddie showed up moments later, and Sam noticed he had a strange look on his face.
"Hey Sam...how was your day?" Freddie asked; stalling for time.
"Well...after dealing with Carly's questions about Marisa and me...fine. Then I treated us both with Smoothie's. I used your wallet; hope you don't mind." Sam said as she gave it back to him.
"That's where it went.. How did you get my wallet? It was in my back pocket."
""Must have fallen out while you were sitting on the couch."
"I wasn't sitting on the couch...remember?"
"Oh...than I must have accidentally slipped it out of your pocket." She said jokingly.
Freddie wasn't mad. He just took it from her, and then sat down next to her.
"Sam. I have some great news."
"What's the great news?" Sam asked.
"M.I.T. accepted my application. I got in." He said excited.
"That's great! I knew you could do it. So what part of Seattle is M.I.T. located?" Sam asked; obviously un aware of it's location.
"Actually it's not in Seattle. It's on the East side of the United States." He said; waiting on her response.
"Oh...okay. Are you taking it, because I know you applied for a bunch of colleges around here too?" Sam asked. Hoping there was a chance he would stay.
"I haven't decided yet. I wanted to tell you first before I made any decisions. After all, it is going to affect you as well." He said as he reached across the table; grabbing Sam's hand; hoping she wouldn't freak out.
"I can live with that...for now. But let's just focus on that Bar-B-Que tomorrow at Gibby's...Food always calms me down; speaking of food, where are you taking me?" She asked as she stood up from the table. "We can eat wherever you want Princess. It's on me." He said. Silly boy when are you going to learn?" She asked.
"Freddie...I have to pee. I'll be right back." Sam said as she let go of his arm and made her way into the ladies room.
When Sam walked into the bathroom, she felt sick to her stomach.
"Move away? Is he crazy? How can he even think of leaving?" Sam asked herself; trying to calm down. She held it together in front of Freddie, but hearing him tell her he was even considering it tore her up. At the same time, she was happy that he had made it as well. She knew how much he wanted to go. But inside she figured once they got together, that going to M.I.T. wo9uld change, and he would go to college in Seattle. Sam splashed some water on her face, and returned to Freddie; hoping he couldn't tell how she was feeling at that moment.
Okay...hope you enjoy it. As it said in the title it was good and bad moments. Review and let me know what you thought of it.
Thanks for reading. :P
