Chapter 51: The Grave Discovered

Clara slowly woke up upon the floor in hearing the distant voice of the Doctor. She blinked sleepily, having just woken up from a strange encounter. Some strange people by the name of Madame Vastra, Jenny Flint, Strax, and the famous Professor River Song. Which, Clara had to admit to the Professor that the way the Doctor went on about her at times as though Rive had been a male. Of course, the only way Clara actually knew that River was always a female was because of Wanda making certain the companion knew the full truth. And when Clara had told River this, the woman had laughed loudly, saying that the Doctor always did consider her 'one of the guys' as the Professor had put it. And then Clara had noticed the very fond smile when the companion mentioned the two Time Lords in their way of explaining the past friendship with the Professor.

It had been quite the strangest thing to Clara, being within some dream state with the group. All discussing some sort of information a man, Clarence DeMarco, sentenced to death had given Vastra. Something about time coordinates, the Doctor's greatest secret and how he would take it to the grave. There was even a brief mention of Wanda by the man. Stating, 'The Wanderer's end draws near.' Though, this seemed to be more of a slip by DeMarco's part. As if, it had not been tended to be said at all. Or as if it was something else had pushed him to say it. Then, to the end of the conversation, Vastra mentioned how the man spoke of Trenzalore.

Clara had been greatly shocked by the reaction of River. The woman seemed to go into a panic, saying how the Doctor and Wanda must never go there. The woman looked utterly terrified in thinking either one of the Time Lords was heading for that place. Then, things sort of spiraled out of control from there. Jenny said someone was in her and Vastra's home and had killed her. River hurriedly told everyone to wake up, then strange white beings in black Victorian suits surrounded the Professor and Clara. Now, the girl simply lay on the floor stunned by everything.

"Am I getting warm? Angie? Artie? Am I getting warm?"

Clara sat up quickly when hearing the Doctor calling out distantly in the house. Shaking her head, she tried to wave off the leftover effects of the soporific drug that Vastra had used to put Clara in the trance dream state in the first place. The girl hurriedly stood up and walked down the stairs, in a hurry to get to the Time Lord for the urgent situation. The Doctor was found with a blindfold over his eyes and searching through the house for Angie and Artie, the two kids that Clara was a nanny to. She frowned upon the silly sight of the Doctor playing the game finding the children.

"Doctor," she said.

"Ha! Clara! How are you?" he asked, his head moving about as if to search where she was, though clearly having troubles with the blindfold on. He gave a beaming smile like an excited child. "Don't worry. Everything is under control." Clara blinked at him, raising a brow at his odd behavior. Though, then again, it was the Doctor. Not exactly as odd as it could have been.

"What are you doing?" she asked him out of curiosity to his actions.

"Oh, um . . . Mr. Maitland went next door, so I said I'd look after the kids," he explained, finally turning to her though not facing her quite properly with his face directed at the wall beside her. He waved his hands around like normal as he talked. "Uh, they wanted to go to the cinema but I said, 'No.' I said, 'No, not until you wake up.' I was very firm."

Clara nodded somewhat, seeing what happened. "At which point they suggested Blind Man's Bluff."

"Yes. Where are they?" The Doctor moved his head around as if scanning for them.

Clara went down the rest of the stairs, pulling off his blindfold, giving him a look of humour. "At the cinema."

The Doctor blinked, then his expression turn to of shock and disbelief. "The little Daleks!"

Clara snorted, shaking her head. "I can't believe someone else fell for their tricks. I thought only Aleena could be that gullible."

The Doctor froze upon that name, turning sharply to Clara. "Aleena? Did you say Aleena?"

"Yeah, she's just a friend of mine." Clara waved off his odd gaze he was giving her. Thinking it might be a familiar name to him or something. Her expression turned to that of great worry and concern. "Anyway, Doctor, something's wrong."

The Doctor frowned, then shook his head lightly. Nah . . . it could not be the same name. Had to be a different Aleena if Clara knew that name. He was sure it was a normal name to have. Hmm . . . maybe. He would have to think on that later. Right now, Clara was right. Something was wrong. He could see the fear and worry within the girl's eyes. And the way she looked at him . . . it sent a chill down his spine.

Clara suggested they go down stairs to talk, knowing that they might need a nice cup of tea to settle them. Wanda always did say how a good cuppa helped ease people's minds during troubling times. Plus, Clara knew the recipe of the Time Lady's tea. She knew drinking some of Wanda's tea might help the Doctor in some way or another. Especially, since Clara knew it had been some time now since the Time Lord had seen his Time Lady. A month is what he mentioned. The longest it had ever been for him. No wonder he showed up out of the blue. He must be ever so lonely in that quiet blue box of his.

Clara explained what had happened to her as she made the Wanda's tea. Going over who she had met and what they had told her, then the white creature/men with just mouths and sharp teeth. The Doctor sat in the living room from the kitchen, clasping his hands together tightly while he processed Clara's story.

"So who was she? The lady with the funny name and the space hair?" Clara asked him about River, trying to get more detail on Professor River Song. Vastra had acted as though the Professor was very important to the Doctor and Wanda. Even though both Time Lords had told Clara of River, they never went into much detail on exactly who the woman was to them. The Doctor had always merely changed the subject as he normally did when it came to topics he did not want to discuss. As for Wanda, the Time Lady had always smiled softly and told Clara 'spoilers.'

"An old friend of mine and Wanda's," the Doctor replied quietly, staring off distantly in thought of River.

"What kind of friend?" Clara asked him, frowning heavily.

"A sister," whispered the Doctor. He straightened some, knowing they were getting off subject. There was pressing matters for them to meet. "River asked Vastra for the exact words, what were they?"

Clara picked up their cups of tea and carried them out into the living room. "'The Doctor has a secret he will take to the grave. It is discovered.'" She stood in front of him, surprised in seeing how tears had welled up within the Doctor's eyes. His whole body trembled and his breath came out shakily. Clara was stunned at the sight, greatly anxious and worried now. "Doctor?"

"Sorry," he breathed barely above a shaking breath, covering his face with a hand for a moment as he composed himself. But his voice came out brokenly as he spoke a little louder this time. "And it was Trenzalore? It was definitely Trenzalore?" He could hardly even get the words out as he sounded ready to sob.

"Yeah," Clara nodded, unsure of the Doctor's behavior.

The Doctor started to cry with tears running down his face. He completely and utterly shaken to the core, his voice coming out in such broken weeps of woe. "I thought I had more time. I thought I could stop it. I promised myself I'd keep us away from there. It can't happen. It can't ever happen." He covered his face in shame to the companion seeing him in such a state.

Clara stood there in shock, uneasy with the crying Doctor. She had never seen him this upset before. Not even that one time on Hedgewick's World of Wonders had he been this distraught. What should she do? She had no idea how to comfort him. Only Wanda had ever been able to do that. Clara knew. She had tried on a few occasions when the Doctor had grown in a depressed and vacant demeanour. Just letting himself sit in the study, doing nothing. Only snapping out of it when Wanda showed up and gave him a smack on the head in a tender sort of manner. To which always led to the Doctor and the Time Lady running off happily and doing their own thing for a while before the trio went on any adventures together. It had sort of become a routine for them all.

"Sorry," the Doctor said suddenly, snapping Clara out of her train of thought. He sniffled greatly and stood up from the couch. He ran off as if running away from something dreadful, running away from his greatest fears. Clara remained standing there for a moment, stunned by what had happened. Blinking, she hurriedly set the two cups of tea down and followed after him.

She found him in the TARDIS, hiding like a frightened child under the lower floor of the control room. He leaned heavily against a panel, staring down at the ground and refusing to look up to her. Clara folded her arms around her, hugging herself tightly.

"Well?" she asked softly. He did not answer at first, seeming hesitant and too unnerved to speak. Then, he finally gave in.

"Trenzalore. I've heard the name, of course," he spoke up, still not meeting her eyes. "Dorium mentioned it, a few others . . . and Wanda. We all suspected what is was, never wanted to find out for sure. But . . . Wanda and River know. They've always known. Of course, Wanda knew, she knows everything, but . . . when she told me I didn't want it to be true. I never wanted that for us . . . even if she says otherwise. No matter what, it's not just one end. It's the end to both stories." He lowered his gaze even more. A few tears leaked out as his hands gripped together, trembling.

Clara had no idea what he was rambling on about. A lot of it did not make any sense. "End? What end? What do you mean?"

The Doctor did not answer as he stood up and pulled down a wire from the console. "Right. Come here, give me your hand." He took hold of Clara's hand when she walked over to him. The wire in one hand and Clara's in another, he brought the two closer together. "Now, the coordinates you saw will still be in your memory. I'm linking you into the TARDIS telepathic circuit. Won't hurt a bit." He jabbed the wire into her hand.

"OW!" she cried out angrily.

"I lied," he stated curtly as the circuit whirled to life. He pulled the wire back out of her hand and put it back to place. Clara frowned in annoyance and exhaled, trying not to let her snap at him for that.

"Okay, what is Trenzalore?" she questioned him, trying to let the whole him jabbing her hand thing slide. "Is that your big secret?"

"No," the Doctor replied while fiddling with the wires, still not looking her in the eye directly.

Clara raised a brow, getting frustrated with his running around the subject and not answering her properly. "Okay. What, then?"

He let go of the wires once he had finished, staring firmly and steadily at Clara with deep sorrow within his wavering green eyes. "When you are a time traveller, there is one place you must never go. One place in all of space and time you must never, ever find yourself."

Clara blinked, still baffled and at a loss. "Where?"

The Doctor frowned at her, not believing the foolishness of the girl. Though, then again, she was human after all. "You didn't listen, did you? You lot never do, that's the problem. 'The Doctor has a secret he will take to the grave. It is discovered.' He wasn't talking about my secret. No, no, no. That's not what's been found. He was talking about my . . .," he swallowed as it took him a second to say the dreaded word, ". . . grave. Trenzalore is where I'm buried."

Clara stared at him in disbelief, feeling a mixture of emotions swimming through her from his explanation. The companion folded her arms as worriment consumed her for him and what might come for absent Time Lady. "What about Wanda? Is that where she's buried, too?"

The Doctor did not answer her for a long moment, staring intently into her brown eyes. His own set on dead determination with serious, and almost angered, expression. "Not if I have anything to say about it." He quickly moved around her and went back up to the upper floor of the control room. Clara followed him closely behind.

"How can you have a grave?" she asked him as she walked up the stairs.

"Because we all do somewhere out there in the future, waiting for us," he answered curtly. "The trouble with time travel, you can actually end up visiting." Clara nodded in understanding, remembering Wanda explaining something similar once when they had been at the Caliburn House. She watched as he began to set up the TARDIS for flight.

"But you're not going to. You just said it's one place you must never go," she said quickly, really starting to grow anxious and nervous now. What sort of place would Trenzalore be if it were truly the Doctor's grave?

He paused in his actions, shaking his head somewhat. "I have to save Vastra and Strax. Jenny, too, if it's still possible. They cared for me and Wanda during the dark times. Never questioned us, never judged us, they were just . . . kind." He paused in thought, going over the dark times he and Wanda had been through in the past after . . . after certain events. They were both past those times now in thanks to those three. And Clara as well, of course. And he would always be eternally grateful to them all. "I owe them, I have a duty. Besides, Wanda would never forgive me if I let anything happen to them." He flipped some more switches around on the console. He glanced at a steady looking Clara. "No point in telling you this is too dangerous?"

Clara uncrossed her arms and remained firm at where she stood. An expression of pure determination set in place. "None at all. How can we save them?"

The Doctor smiled at her, as glad as ever to have her as a companion. "Apparently, by breaking into my own tomb. And for once, and I can't believe I'm saying this, I'm very glad Wanda is not here right now with us for this trip."

Suddenly, there was a small white light that flashed behind them. They both spun around to see Second Wanda gazing around the TARDIS for a second before smiling brightly at them both. Though, with some hint of sadness in her eyes as well when seeing the older version of Eleven standing before her. The Doctor quickly smacked his forehead in frustration and anger.

"Ooh, I jinxed myself! Why must I always do that?!" he exclaimed angrily.

"Clara! It's been ages since I've seen you," Wanda said, bouncing over to the girl and giving the companion a warm hug. It really had been. Wanda had not been with a later Eleven since the time on the submarine and the many months spent trying to get the TARDIS back from the south pole. Man, had that been a fun adventure.

"Out! Get out!" the Doctor yelled, grabbing Wanda and dragging her towards the TARDIS doors. Wanda blinked at him in great confusion, stumbling back on her feet as he dragged her backwards.

She felt her hearts sink. She knew it would happen one day. She had just been lucky so far that she had stuck with a Doctor who still loved her, or at least held some affections for her. But there was always the day looming over her head. The day she would start to be within the Doctor's life when he had moved past her and onto River. Though, Wanda had always hoped that he might still be willing to have her around for travelling at least. It seemed her hope was lost as he hurriedly pulled her to the doors. Perhaps he had only allowed past hers to be around as a courtesy. But now that he saw her current self, he wanted nothing to do with her. Perhaps . . . he hated her in knowing she had let his wife die.

"Doctor, what the hell are you doing?!" Clara called out, running over to grab onto Wanda and pull the Time Lady back towards the console.

"She can't go with us," the Doctor said curtly, pulling at Wanda's other arm towards the doors. Clara pulled Wanda back the other way.

"Why not?" Clara asked crossly.

"Because I said so!" he yelled, giving another pull. Wanda was starting to feel like a rag doll in a game of tug-of-war.

"She would want to save them," retorted Clara, tugging Wanda back to her.

"I don't care. She's not going. End of discussion," the Doctor said tightly, resolute in his decision and yanking Wanda towards himself.

Clara gave another pull. "Why not? She has every right to go to Trenzalore as much as you do."

The Doctor tugged hard. "This is not open for debate, Clara. She's not going and that's final."

"You can't just leave her behind!"

"Watch me!"

"Oi, idiots! Stop trying to rip me in half!" Wanda yelled at them both, finally able to yank her arms out of their grasp. She rubbed sourly at her sore wrists, frowning at the two of them and their odd behavior. "What's going on? Did you say Trenzalore?"

"No," the Doctor answered curtly.

"Yes," Clara replied. Both of them glared at the other, as if trying to see which one would win in a staring contest.

Wanda nodded slowly, trying to think of where they were. Fear coursed through her for a brief second, but it eased away. It could not be Eleven's end just yet. Judging by their clothes and the way Clara talked, and the fact that it was not Christmas, this was the day the Doctor went to rescue the Paternoster Gang from the Great Intelligence and the Whisper Men, making the Time Lord have a small battle over the sight of his own grave and within his tomb of the dead TARDIS. And it would also send Clara to be torn apart across time throughout the Doctor's life. So, in others words, no problem and nothing major to really worry about. With a brief look into the possibilities, Wanda nodded.

"So, we're going to Trenzalore to save the Paternoster Gang, then?" Wanda asked the Doctor.

"No, we are not doing anything. Me and Clara are going. You, are staying here on Earth where it's safe," the Doctor told her, making a go to grab her again. She jumped out of his reach, scooting over to Clara.

"Like hell I am. Where you go, I go. Remember?" Wanda said firmly, crossing her arms and nodding her head curtly at him. Clara mirrored the Time Lady's actions, keeping her own gaze steady on the Time Lord. The Doctor growled in frustration, rubbing at his face.

"Wanda, this is Trenzalore. The place I'm buried," he beseeched to her. "I don't want you to ever, ever set foot on that place. Not as long as I'm alive."

Wanda raised a brow, wondering why exactly he appeared to be so frightened of her going there. Was it because that it was just his grave and he did not wish for her to see it? Well, if she knew where her grave was she would not want him to see it either. But it was more than that. He looked more than just frightened. He looked down right terrified by her presence. As if . . . the very idea of her going to Trenzalore scared him more than even visiting his own grave. Why? Unless . . . oh . . . right.

"I'm buried there too, aren't I?" Wanda asked him quietly.

"No!" he said hurriedly. His eyes going wide, looking even more frightened than before. He reached forward, gripping at Wanda's arms in almost desperation. "No, you're not buried. You're alive. You're so alive. I swore that I would find a way to keep you alive no matter what, and I am sticking to that."

"Doctor, we all have to die one day," she said softly, trying to keep him calm from the growing panic he was showing. His shoulders slumped. His expression spoke of despair and defeat.

"I know that. Just . . . not you. Please, not you," he breathed, wrapping his arms around her to hug her tightly.

Wanda rubbed his back in gentle circles, glad that he still considered her a close friend by this point. He must since he genuinely seemed worried about her death and was hugging her. But she knew how Eleven could be. He never liked endings, and losing friends always tore him up. So he tended to have a fierce determination to keep everyone within his life alive. However, when he could not . . . it led him into dark times. A brief flash of Amy and Rory went through her mind.

"Hey, it's okay, Doctor," she whispered to him. "Today is not the day you're thinking of. We still have a long ways to go before the day of Trenzalore."

"I still don't want you there," he breathed, tightening his grip.

"I'm not leaving you and Clara to face this alone," Wanda said firmly. She pulled away from him, standing tall and ready. "We're a family, and family sticks together."

"Well said," Clara responded brightly, grabbing onto Wanda's hand. Both females beamed at each other, then turned their eyes back on the conflicted looking Doctor. He rang his hands together, shifting on foot to foot in a nervous manner. Greatly torn on whether to let Wanda stay with him and keep him comforted, or to leave her behind for her own good and protection.

"Are you certain this isn't the day?" he asked Wanda carefully.

"Positive," she replied, giving a small nod. "That day is still a long ways off." The Doctor frowned and clasped his hands tightly together, seeming to think things over cautiously. Finally, he sighed in frustration.

"Ooh, I can't believe I'm saying this, but fine, you can come," he told Wanda, making both her and Clara smile in triumph in winning the argument. He waved his finger at them. "But you stick close to me and don't stray. I'm not having this day become the day. Got it?" He stormed over to the console while Wanda and Clara gave each other a quick high-five.

They held onto the console as the Doctor sent them off. The TARDIS rocked wildly around, fighting in going to their destination. She absolutely refused to go there, acting a lot like the Doctor did when Wanda had arrived. But the Doctor pushed Sexy onwards, making her fly to Trenzalore. The controls sparked and short circuited as the Doctor and Sexy had a battle over arriving to the Doctor's grave. The whole control room crashed as Sexy won, somewhat. They were flung to the railing and to the ground, and she quickly powered herself down, refusing to land.

"So we're not there?" Clara asked as they stared at the dark control room.

"Well . . . sort of," Wanda replied, standing up from the ground. She walked over to the doors. The other two following curiously behind. Wanda opened one door, letting the trio see the world below them.

"Okay, so that's where I end up," muttered the Doctor, taking in the sight of a barren and broken world. The whole surface appearing to be destroyed, with deep, glowing cracks on the planet's surface. It appeared as though the world itself were dead, being nothing more than a rock hovering in space. The Doctor's eyes wavered as he stared at the planet, feeling a overwhelming sense of dread and fear. Wanda slowly took his hand, knowing how hard from him it was to see this. It was difficult for her as well. The Doctor squeezed her hand. "I always thought maybe I'd retire, take up watercolours or beekeeping or . . ."

"Knitting," Wanda offered, trying to help ease his worries some. The Doctor chuckled weakly in response. Clara stared between the two of them, seeing the great hesitation and certainty on their faces. Similar emotions that she herself was feeling.

"So, how do we get down there? Jump?" Clara asked them.

"Don't be silly," the Doctor scoffed.

"We fall," Wanda said, shutting the door.

"She's turned off practically everything except the anti-gravs," the Doctor told the companion. He pulled out his sonic and aimed it at the console. "Guess what I'm turning off?"

Making the sonic pulse and buzz at the console, the whole ship stuttered and dropped like a rock. They plummeted straight down to the world below. Clara screamed the whole way down while they held onto the railing. They landed with a booming crash, jolting greatly. The Doctor got up from the ground first, peeking out to see if any damage had been done to the TARDIS. Sadly, one of her windows was cracked.

"Oops," he mumbled. Wanda poked her head out, seeing the crack.

"Oh, poor Sexy. We'll fix you up later. I promise," Wanda said quietly, patting the ship's side gently. Clara came up beside the two of them, looking out at the planet around them.

The Doctor gave a quick intake of breath, staring out at the landscape. Storm clouds covered the whole sky with lightening seen and thunder heard from a distance. Though not a single drop of rain fell to the world below. The whole earth was just as barren as they had seen from space. The only thing that show life had once been there . . . was the graves. Hundreds and hundreds of graves surrounded the ship. Nothing but graves all around, going on for miles. Truly, this was a world of death.

The Doctor stared off distantly, not able to fully take in the sight before him. It hurt too greatly to think of all the ones lost. He felt Wanda take his hand once more, thumbing it gently. Knowing that she was trying to comfort him the best way she could. Though, he could sense she was just as frightened as he was. Just as upset with the great loss seen around them. He scooted closer to the Time Lady, wishing he could usher her back inside the TARDIS and lock her away from this. Keep her away from the death and the coming struggle they would have to face. Anything to keep his Wanderer by his side for as long as he could.

"You okay?" Clara asked them after a bit. She stared at them, seeing the frightened looks upon their faces. Even if the Doctor seemed certain Wanda was not buried here either, Clara felt the Time Lady saw it differently. And Wanda always knows. If the Time Lady thought she was buried here, then Clara knew that most likely . . . the woman was.

"Visiting your own grave, anyone would be scared," Clara spoke softly to them.

"It's more than that," the Doctor sighed, knowing what Clara was thinking. Wanda was not buried here. He was certain of that. He kept his mind focused on the visitation of his own grave. No one else's. "I'm a time traveller. I've probably time-travelled more than anyone else."

"Meaning?" Clara question curiously.

"Meaning . . . my grave is potentially the most dangerous place in the universe," the Doctor explained, stepping out fully from the TARDIS. He gazed around, letting it soak in where exactly they were.

Wanda let go of his hand after stepping out with him, knowing she was going to cross a line if she kept doing that. It was no longer her place to hold his hand or show affections. That was strictly for his past. But the Doctor snatched her hand back and threaded their fingers together, keeping a strong grip on her. She gazed down to their entwined hands. Right . . . he must really need the comfort. Maybe he would let it slide for now since he was so terrified of this place. She could understand that.

Wanda grabbed onto Clara's hand as they all walked together through the graveyard. The girl started to ask questions about the gravestones. Wondering why they were so basic or some bigger than others. To which the Doctor explained about it being a battlefield sight. The bigger that grave, the higher the rank. At that moment, they came around a corner of the graveyard, seeing the colossal structure in the distance. Gazing up to it, they stared in awe when realizing what it was. It was the TARDIS. It was Sexy. She . . . was dying. Left alone, as the Doctor's tomb, to rot away and die.

Wanda gasped, shaking and feeling tears escaping. The Doctor tightened his grip on her hand.

"No," she breathed, almost sobbing. "Oh, Sexy. What have they done to you?"

"Her dimension dams are breaking down," the Doctor whispered. "She's . . . dying. I'm sorry." Wanda let her eyes fall away, her hearts clenching tightly. Too broken to see such a sight happen to the wonderful and marvelous TARDIS she loved. She sucked in a breath, trying to remind herself this was not set in stone. Things were going to turn out differently for both the TARDIS and the Doctor. This was not going to be their final resting place. Wanda would make certain of it.

The Doctor let go of her hand, knowing how hard it was for them both in seeing this happening to their beloved TARDIS. It was his fault, he was sure of it. His fault that all of this will happen one day. The one thing he swore would not. Though, as River always pointed out, he never could keep his promises. And in doing so . . . he had failed Wanda once again. He moved away from the Time Lady, feeling worthless as ever as he continued on dejectedly through the gravesite.

Wanda and Clara both glanced to each other before starting to walk forward after the Doctor. Going through the gravestones, Wanda, by mere chance, glanced over when a very small, white marble headstone caught her eye. She came to a slow stop as she could only stare at the stone. No real emotion swam through her. She only felt . . . numb. Folding her arms tightly around her middle as a blanket of sorts to hold herself together, she slowly edged towards the stone. Once closer, she simply stood there, staring blankly at the marble piece before her. Taking in the words engraved upon the marble.

In loving memory of The Wanderer.

May the light she bears shine the way through the darkness.

Wanda slowly placed a hand over her mouth, feeling shaken. She knew she should not feel surprised by this. After all, in this moment, if the Doctor was dead, then so would she. In fact, being here on Trenzalore within this particular timeline felt all wrong to her, twisting a deep sense of disturbance and an unsettled stat through her. And then seeing this gravestone . . . well . . . she guessed that anyone would be unnerved in seeing their own grave.

Over a ways from Wanda, Clara had been trying to catch up with the Doctor. But when realizing the Time Lady was no longer beside her, the companion turned around with a frown, wondering where Wanda had wandered off to. Spotting the raven-haired woman standing in front of a gravesite, Clara made her way over to the Time Lady.

"Wanda, what is it?" Clara questioned, wondering what exactly Wanda was staring at. Then, when Clara finally saw it, she felt as though someone had punched her. Her breath left her and she stood in complete stunned silence by the Time Lady. "No. That's . . . that can't be . . . can it?" She looked to the Time Lady for answers, but Wanda merely shook her head, seeming at just a loss as Clara felt.

"Clara. Wanda."

They both sort of jumped when seeing River standing beside a gravestone next to Wanda's. The Time Lady's eyes went wide to the sight, beyond words at seeing both River and the Professor's own headstone. A much taller gravestone, slimmer, and much dirtier looking like the rest of the graves around them. In fact, only Wanda's own headstone was so clean looking. But this did not register for Wanda as she only wondered why she was seeing River as well. She knew Clara could because of the conference call, but . . . her as well? Though, Wanda remembered the Doctor say how he had always been able to see River also. Maybe it had something to do with a Time Lord's mental abilities? Possibly.

River smiled at Wanda, "Hello, sweetie." She turned her attention upon both the Time Lady and Clara. "Don't say anything. Don't let him know I'm here." Wanda nodded, understanding what River meant.

"Come on, then!" the Doctor called out to the two of them, frowning in frustration how they would linger behind to chat with each other.

"Doctor, there's something . . ." Wanda replied, beginning to tell him of both her and River's headstones. But then she hesitated, afraid of what his reaction would be. He had been upset enough when thinking she might be dead in the future. How would he take it in actually seeing her grave? Upon seeing the conflicted and torn look on Wanda's face, the Doctor felt concerned as he walked swiftly back over to them, stopping short upon the sight of the tall gravestone. As well as another sight to which he refused to look at.

"River?" he questioned in disbelief, seeing the name River Song written on the stone. He slowly walked up to it, gently touching the name with his fingertips. That could not be right.

"That can't be right," said Clara, saying exactly what the Doctor had been thinking.

"No, it can't," he agreed.

"She's not dead," Clara stated, looking bewildered. Wanda stiffened, feeling her eyes wavering. She glanced to River, seeing the soft gaze the woman was giving her. A gentle nod as if to say everything was okay.

"Oh, she's dead, I'm afraid," the Doctor told Clara. "She's been dead for a very long time." Clara blinked rapidly. She looked back and forth between Wanda and the dead woman standing next to them. River smiled cheekily and shrugged as if guilty to being a trickster in a harmless prank. Wanda breathed out a soft chuckle to the woman's laid back response.

River sent Wanda a wink, knowing the Time Lady was remembering other times when she had made the same gesture after messing with the Doctor. Oh, what fun times those had been. The prank with the fezzes had always been the two women's favorite moment. It had even went into River's diary as a remembrance to the date. The look on the Doctor's face had been too priceless to ever forget.

"But her grave can't be here," the Doctor breathed, interrupting all females' trains of thoughts or remembrances of fond memories. "It shouldn't be . . ." He looked up, frowning at Wanda. "Can you think of a reason why it's here?" He blinked when he saw her pinching at her thumb, twisting it anxiously. "Wanda?" Then, he saw a similar expression on Clara as the companion gently patted Wanda's arm. "Clara? Wanda? What's wrong? Look, it's not actually her grave. You know that Wanda."

"Yes, I know," whispered the Time Lady, not really meeting the Doctor's eyes. "It's . . . it's not really her grave that's bothering me."

"What is bothering you?" he questioned, afraid that being on this planet, seeing all the graves and his own, was finally getting to her. Then he was surprised in seeing the teary eyes of Clara when she looked at him.

"Doctor . . . Look," said the girl, pointing at the small, white stone next to River's.

He did not even notice it at first. It was so tiny compared to the rest. But he knew he should have as it stood out like a sore thumb with its white colouring and clean appearance from the rest of the stones surrounding them. Only a few stray, dead vines covered at the very bottom of the headstone. And when he turned to get a good look at it, he felt his breath leave him. His hearts froze and coldness washed over him as he could not believe his eyes. But there it was. Plain as day. Wanda's grave. He fell to his knees, at a complete loss. He could only stare at it as sadness overwhelmed him.

"No," he breathed brokenly. Wanda moved away from Clara, getting to her knees beside him. She gently cupped his face, turning his eyes to meet her own.

"Hey, look at me," she spoke softly, hoping to keep him steady and calm. "I'm right here. That isn't me. Right now, I'm still alive and well."

"But you won't be," the Doctor whispered, his voice shaking. He leaned his head forward into Wanda's chest, hoping to hide his face and not let her see him breaking down into tears. "I promised I would keep you safe. And I didn't. I'm sorry. I'm so sorry." Wanda wrapped her arms around him in comfort, feeling his shoulders shaking. She felt her hearts break in seeing him so dismayed and miserable.

"We . . . we can't always keep our promises," she breathed in reply, rubbing soothing circles on his back. Leaning down, she could not help but to kiss his head in comfort of sorts. Suddenly, she was shocked when the Doctor abruptly pulled away from her, looking almost hopefully.

"But what if we can?" He gripped her arms in excitement. "You're not in pain right now, right?"

Wanda frowned in confusion. "Umm . . . No, not really. Why?"

"Because you should be. Being next to your grave is a paradox. The biggest of them all. You should be writhing in pain."

"And that's a good thing?" Clara scoffed from behind them.

"Yes!" exclaimed the Doctor, jumping up. "River's gravestone can't be here. So, that stone there has been placed as an obvious fake, pointing out as a marker for Wanda's grave. And think about it. Why would Wanda's grave be so clean looking and made out of a different stone from the rest? Someone has been taking care of it. And the words. Look at the words on it. It's a message, pointing out the obvious."

"'May the light she bears shine the way through the darkness,'" muttered Wanda as she stood up from the ground, frowning as she thought the words over. "You can't mean that someone just placed the grave here as a mark of some sorts for an entrance. That's what River's grave was supposed to be."

"Yes, well, they might have been leaving me a different message besides just a mark for an entrance. They're letting me know there's still hope." He crouched down in front of the small, marble stone, knocking on it. He beamed in joy when hearing the hollow sound. It was a fake. A cruel fake, but a fake none of the less. Digging away the dead vines around the base, he smiled in joy as he saw the other words engraved at the very bottom where another small message had been made.

With love—A.T.

Distance whisperings could be heard coming towards them. Wanda and Clara quickly turned their heads to see the Whisper Men coming towards them. A whole large group of them.

"No time to waste, then," Wanda said hurriedly, whipping out her sonic and aiming it at white grave. The earth below them suddenly vanished and the trio fell screaming.

I hope the chapter was good. :) So, thoughts? Comments? Ideas? Anything you would like to share please leave in a review. It is always greatly appreciated. :) Plus feedback helps the story grow into something better than it already is and gives everyone a voice on what they wish to see within the trilogy. :)

Reviewers:

TheLastNephalem: Glad you enjoyed it. :) Well . . . I guess you could say this chapter gives even more insight as to what the companions may have been hinting at. But hopefully everything turns out all right in the end. . . . Hopefully. Anyways, hope you enjoyed the newest chapter as well. :) Take care! And thanks for the lovely review. :)

Ronin Kenshin: Yay! Thanks! :D Hope you enjoyed the new chapter as well. :)

grapejuice101: Glad you enjoyed the last chapters. Sorry that it's been taking so long lately on the updates. Things are just crazy right now. lol :) Hope you enjoyed the new chapter. Take care!

Blinked310: Hello! It's so great to see you again! :D It's all good. I'm just happy to see that you're still enjoying the story. :) It's quite worrisome, yes. And this chapter sort of gives even more insight as to what might have happened during that particular moment in time. But I guess we'll just have to wait and see later in part three as to what will happen. Yes, indeed what is going on with Alpha? Let's just say she and Bad Wolf are connected. I thought that would be a nice moment there with them in the TARDIS. :) I'm so glad that I'm still doing a good job on the story. :D I'm also glad that you liked how I sort of twisted things around and how it sort of ended for Rose and the Meta-Crisis Doctor. I know I probably could have done better, but it was the best I could think of at the time. Glad that you don't mind the long waits between updates. It's just bee a very busy summer lately for me. But I'm sure things should quiet down soon on my end. Hopefully. :) Anyway, take care! And I hope to see you again soon in the future! :D

10th Squad 3rd Seat: lol I do try to do double updates as a surprised every once and a while. ;) You're very welcome. Thank you for all the lovely reviews. :) Nah, I'm sure she and Fred will get along just great. It might have been Third Wanda there. We'll just have to wait and see. I know. Poor Donna. :( Eleven always knows how to make anyone feel better. He just have a way with words and actions. :) Oh yes, I love all thirteen as well. :) Or fourteen if you want to count the Meta-Crisis Doctor. lol ;)

Justus80: Glad you liked seeing Donna's happy ending there. :) I always wished we had a chance to see it was well, that's why I'd thought it be a really nice touch in having it for this story. :) Hmm . . . we might see Ten acting like that again in the future. Not too soon in the future, more later in part three really. Hope you enjoyed the new chapter. :) Take care!

bored411: It really was a mixture of happy-sad, wasn't it? Well . . . let's just say spoilers for now. I just hope that everything will turn out all right in the end. :( But I hope that you at least liked the new chapter and to see you again for the future! :D

loveneverdies115: Yay! Glad you liked it. :) And that it was happy tears during that moment. I thought it'd be a nice touch there for a ending. ;) Aww, thanks. Not as talented as you I'm sure. ;) Anyways, hope to see you again in the future. :D

Aka-Baka Hoshi: Glad that I did good on it. :) It might have been Third Wanda, but who knows. Guess we just have to wait until the future chapters to come. And I'm happy that you enjoyed the happy ending of Donna. :) Hope you'll like the new chapter as well. Take care!

Jesuslovesmarina: Woot! I'm so happy that you liked it. :D Oh yes, poor Donna. :( I always do feel so awful for her. That's why I really wanted to put that nice moment there for her within the story. Sorry, but I actually have other plans on when Wanda will sort of meet up with Jack again after that moment for him. Sort of spoilers for now. ;) But I do hope you will like how things happen in that moment. :) Eleven is the best, isn't he? ;) Sweet! I'm always looking to improve my writing. :D I just hope I can keep going in writing better and keeping the story strong going. :)

PhoenixTheTimelady: Thanks! :D Aww, I'm so glad that the story helped inspire you to write. I'm sure your stories will be even better than this one! :D I'm glad that you like the realistic side of things. :) I really try to show characters' emotions and behaviors as natural as possible, but I'm sure I still mess up at times. Anyways, hope you enjoyed the new update. :) Take care!

Squidtastik: Yep, happy endings for all. In a way, at least. :) Glad you enjoyed all the spins and such. :) Hope you continued to find enjoyment into the future. Take care! :D

Lady Artimes Blaine: Yay! Glad you liked it. :) Hope you liked the new one as well. ;)

LovableAmethyst129: Only eight chapters to go now. :) So not long now. I just hope that you will like Third Wanda and part three just as much as you enjoyed Second Wanda and this part. And that you will like the ending to part two once we get there. Well, take care! And hope that you enjoyed the new chapter. :)

Audrie-13: Yay! Glad they made up for that. :) Sorry again for this one being a late update. I'm also glad you liked Donna's kids. :) It truly is the saddest moment in the show. That's why I really wanted to cheer things up a bit with the nice moment in Donna's life. :) Hope you liked the new chapter. Take care! :)

TwitchPotter: Hmm, well . . . she might have something or another to do with Alpha. Let's just say they are connected in a way. ;) Glad that I could help. :) Oh, I know, that's my eternal fear in writing a Mary Sue as well. I think I don't do as well as I should with Wanda, but I'm glad that you like her all the same. :) It might have been Third Wanda out there. We'll just have to wait and see. Yep! They totally get together! :D And I think we all want to do that by now to Wanda and the Doctor. lol ;) Hmm, I think the girl would be named Lily, and the boy Thomas. I know it's not really original, but it's just something that comes to mind and that I think Donna would have given in names to her children. Nah, no worries. Ramble away! :D I like rambling. I hope you're classes are going well! Oh I know I've made plenty more mistakes than that one. And if you ever see anymore, don't hesitate to point them out. It always helps a ton. :) Hope to see you again! Take care! :D

leahcar197: It really was cute, wasn't it? :) I know. I miss her, too. :( We all do. But at least she's happy in the end. :) Hope you enjoyed the new chapter. :)

Arosen Time: It might be, or it might not. We'll just have to wait and see for the future. ;) As for Wanda leaving, well . . . spoilers for now. And trust me, you'll see that happen on sort of 'alpha mode' in part three. Always great with the cuteness they are. lol ;) I didn't know what Doctor Who was just about a year ago. I'm still sort of new at the whole fandom and everything. You are totally awesome. :D Never heard of Doctor Mew, but definitely of Doctor Whooves and Derpy. I totally love them! :D Hope you liked the newest chapter. :) And take care!

Jutemay: Glad you liked it. :) I think we all love them together. lol ;) Yep, everyone got their own happy ending in a way. Hmm . . . I think of something in the future on whether or not we can see the outcome to Rose and Fred in a future chapter. I make no promises on a complete outcome, but we shall see. Hope that you enjoyed the new chapter and that you are doing well, too! :D

sophia: Hope it wasn't too long of a wait. ;) And that you enjoyed it. :) Take care!

Raging Pansies: Oh, I know. It makes me cry every time, too. It's always good to have a hunch. ;) Well, I mean, not actually hunches, but . . . yeah, you know what I meant. lol Eleven and Wanda are always cute together. :) It's always sort of 'daww' with those two. lol Hope you liked what happened next. :)

BeCent: Yay! Glad you enjoyed it. :) Aww, sorry that you'll be away. :( I hope to see you again for the future to come! And don't worry, the story will be happy in waiting for you once you get back. :) Of course, by then, it might be all the way up to part three, but who knows. ;) Glad that you're liking how Wanda is developing in some ways. :) And don't worry, all questions will be answered by the end of everything. ;) Hope you have a great summer! Take care! :D

Jaxrond: Donna's part is always the saddest. :( Glad you liked the moment with Eleven. :) Bow ties are definitely cool. lol ;) Hope that your younger brother isn't always allergic to everything Whovian. lol I think he might like it in the future. ;) Anyways, hope you liked the new chapter and to see you again for the future. :D

E-man-dy-S: You're very welcome. :) Thanks for always giving such great reviews and support for the story. :D Glad you enjoyed both of the chapters. Hope you liked this one as well. :) Take care!

Maren the fangirl: Yep! Totally cute and totally mini-Donna Nobles. lol :) All will be solved within par three, just you wait. ;) I think I will as well. Once I get more time, I will totally try it out! :D And once again, you're amazing as well! Take care! :)

Merciless: Hope it wasn't too long of a wait. ;) Hope you liked it as well. And I'm so glad that you enjoyed the last chapters, too! :D Take care and hope to see you again!
