Chapter 50
Fare looked into the interrogation room as the Sons of liberation member sat down twiddling his thumbs.
"Agent Fare," He looked over seeing another agent coming towards him.
"You finally got an ID on him?" Fare asked.
"Yes sir," his assistant handed him a file.
"Name is Ryan Swiss, he's 23 years old from Lynchburg, Virginia. Doesn't have any priors but he has been connected to some extremist cyber groups since he was 15."
"Interesting," Fare looked over his file and back at his suspect. He wondered why the Guardian sent a kid who was clearly an amateur after a seasoned agent like Fare. Unless…he was hoping that Fare would kill him hence bringing more of a rallying cry to the Sons of Liberation. Good thing, Fare didn't play into his hands. However, this kid showed the Guardian maybe getting a little bit reckless and the answers could be with this kid.
"Alright, I'm going in," Fare walked into the interrogation room taking the chair on the opposite side of the prisoner.
"So, how you doing, Ryan?" Fare asked. The SOL member eyes grew as Fare mentioned his name.
"Ryan Swiss, Age 23, born in…"
"I want my lawyer." Ryan demanded. Fare looked up at him and gave him a chuckle.
"Oh, so you got a lawyer?"
"The Law says you can't talk to me if I ask for a Lawyer," Fare laughed again this time a bit heavier.
"What's so funny?" Ryan asked him getting confused.
"You don't know where you are or the charges you're in for do you kid?" Fare began looking over at Ryan.
"You see, you assaulted a Federal Agent AND you are involved with a Terrorist organization who is responsible for the deaths of Three Senators and a plot to kill the President. So under the new Patriot Act, those Miranda rights you were just telling me about…you don't have those here."
"I don't…" Ryan seemed stunned.
"No you don't," Fare informed him. "Matter of fact, we can have you in a holding cell for as long as we feel like it while we're awaiting trial and lord knows how long that will take."
"No you're lying!" Ryan shouted out. "You're trying to trick me!"
"Oh but I'm not," Fare stared him down with an intimidating look. "I have full authority to do whatever I need to get information out of you. You see, as I stated before you are pretty much considered a "Class A" terrorist. So even if you weren't directly involved with anything that has occurred, you will be treated as if you are the mastermind behind it all."
Ryan was getting a bit paranoid. Fare could see he was starting to crack, he just had to keep chipping away.
"You know, what I also discovered in my report?" Fare continued. "You were a military brat. Moving one place to another with your folks Pretty hard to make connections that is, until you met a James Watson?" Fare saw the color from his face starting to drain.
"James Watson became like another father figure to you because well…your own father was an abusive drunk. Decent man on paper."
"He was great man!" Ryan interrupted him.
"Yeah sure," Fare kept going. "Business owner, Veteran, outstanding man in the community and also…one of the original members of the sons of liberation."
"Yeah and you pigs killed him!" Ryan yelled out. "He was a Patriot and…"
"A terrorist." Fare finished for him. "A terrorist who betrayed his oath to defend this country and was going to get a lot of innocent people killed."
"Those people weren't innocent. They were the reason this country were on a slow roast to hell to begin with! Look at what they did to my brothers!?"
"Even the children?" Fare asked him. Ryan hesitated for a moment.
"Sometimes…innocence can be lost as a casualty for the greater cause." Fare knew even Ryan couldn't truly believe that.
"So let me get this straight," Fare got up and walked over to Ryan. "This little girl was the reason this country is going to hell?" Fare showed a picture of President Graham's daughter.
"She was three years old. Hadn't even started school yet but she's the reason everything fell down?"
"Sometimes, we…
"So she is the cause," Fare stopped him.
"He was the cause too?" He placed another picture. This one of Jason Grant.
"He was two. Is he the reason why everything been going wrong in this country? There only crimes were being the children of a former/current president. Oh and can't forget this one."
Fare put the third picture out showing Kyle Lambert. "This kid wasn't even a government official's child. He was the child of one of YOUR brothers and YOUR brothers killed him. How do you expect to tell me you want to liberate the country and you are turning on each other?"
Fare saw him trying to look away and immediately slammed his fist on the table.
"Tell me, HOW did their deaths, HELP YOUR GOALS?!
"Sometimes…the innocent..."
"Oh don't start that shit with me Ryan." Fare scoffed. "You know you don't, believe it either. You know good and damn well their deaths were pointless and even monstrous. None of these kids had reached the age of ten yet you sat there while your brothers committed murder."
"No I didn't!" Ryan yelled out. Fare knew he had where he wanted him.
"Alright then, tell me. What is the Sons of Liberations end game? What do they plan to do?"
"They want to take everybody on the food chain out. The President, the VP, Congress…everybody. By destroying the infrastructure we can start anew for everybody."
"What is the Guardian planning?" Fare asked him.
"I'm just a foot solider. I don't know anything. They just give us orders and keep us in the dark."
"Your order that night was to bring me down to them. What were they going to do to me?"
"They were going interrogate you and see what you knew I guess. I don't know. I was just following orders."
"You sure you don't know anything else?"
"I don't." Ryan told him.
"Alright I believe you." Fare pretended to back off.
"You'll stay in here till we transport you."
"May I have some water?" Swiss asked.
"No you may not." Fare told him and then pretend like had a change of heart.
"On second thought, would you be so kind in telling me how exactly did you find out my room number."
"HA! Like I'm a rat." Swiss scoffed at him.
"So you guys do have another mole in the CIA?"
"We're everywhere. You think you guys are so safe but we WILL find you." Fare thought a bit more when it dawned on him.
"Well then will you sign this please saying you aren't going to cooperate?" Fare gave him a piece of paper.
"It's paper work saying you not going to testify."
"Whatever," Swiss signed the document quickly without even caring to look.
"Excellent," Fare said looking at the paper.
"I'll put this out on the file so that they know you are going to become a witness for the state."
Swiss eyes rose.
"What the hell are you talking about?"
Fare smiled and showed him the paper he just signed.
"No…" Swiss grew pale seeing what was on Print.
"I'm sure whoever is our mole will be very happy to inform the Guardian about this and it shouldn't take too long."
"Are you crazy?! They'll kill me!"
"I know," Fare said rather emotionless. "Hopefully they'll go easy on your mom and sister. Oh wait, they like to kill the whole family too. Well anyway let me put this in the data base and…"
"WAIT I'LL TELL YOU!" Swiss yelled out.
"Tell me what?" Fare asked innocently.
"Who our other source is but you have to make sure my sister and mom are okay." Ryan sighed.
"Deal, now who is it?" Fare walked back to the table.
"His name is Bryan Warner. That's our other source. He works in intelligence." Swiss said.
"Very well, anything else?"
"Yeah…the Guardian is trying to find that Olivia Pope woman."
"Why does he want to find her?" Fare asked.
"He wants to kill her. That's why they wanted to bring you in so they could find her. They know you are the only agent who knows her location."
"I see…" Fare said.
"Do you know where the other base is?" Ryan shook his head. "They have a couple around. They switch from place to place."
"Any name or description?"
"No, they blindfold us till we get there especially if we are lower ranked."
"Interesting." Fare understood.
"Well we'll get on Bryan Warner right away."
"You better keep your promise about my mom and sister." Ryan barked back at him.
"Absolutely." Fare agreed and went to get the team together.
Olivia rocked back in her chair with Nathan in her lap humming to him softly. When it seemed the little boy was finally asleep she picked him up and placed him into her bed. She got into bed herself and looked over at the phone.
Olivia was heavily debating calling Fitz. She missed being around him and hearing his voice. Even though she didn't really show it, she felt safe around him. Reaching for the phone, she started to dial his private number when she paused.
"What am I doing? He's probably asleep or really busy. He's the President for God Sakes! Why would he have to time to hear a paranoid woman's ranting?" Olivia hung up the phone softly. Before she settled herself into bed she heard the phone ring. Quickly, she answered it before Nathan woke up.
"Hello?" Olivia spoke.
"Hi," She felt her heart flutter at the voice on the other end.
"Hi," Olivia smiled.
"I'm not calling you too late am I?" Fitz asked her. He had been thinking about her as well. Their last phone call was very rushed and more so business than pleasure.
"No, I just put Nathan to sleep." Olivia told him.
"That's good. How is he doing?"
"He's doing really good," Olivia informed him. "How is Miles?"
"He's great too. He's back at the White House for now being transported to School for soccer camp during the day."
"That's good." Olivia said.
"Is something wrong?" Fitz asked her. He noticed something in her voice.
"It's…" Olivia began trying to make something up.
"Don't tell me it's nothing. Now what's wrong?" Fitz stopped her before she could lie about being "okay".
"I had a nightmare the other night," Olivia began. "I dreamt the Guardian had found us and he had Nathan…" Olivia kept herself from trying to cry.
"Oh Livvie," Fitz wish he could have been there to help sooth her nerves.
"It was so bad that Nathan had to wake me up from my sleep. I called Dr. Brace and we talked about it."
"That's good," Fitz was relieved she reached out to the therapist versus just trying to brush it off and let it keep bothering her.
"I just want to be normal again. I feel like such a bad mom."
"You are not a bad mother," Fitz assured her. "Every time I see you with Nathan, that little boy is as happy and healthy as can be. Don't let anybody tell you different."
"How can I protect him if I'm always scared?"
"Parenthood is scary especially when it's the first time around," Fitz told her. "I can't begin to tell you how much I worried about Miles when he was that age. You're so afraid of making a mistake and if you aren't perfect they would grow up to be some horrible person who hates you. Don't get me started on the damn books they try to push off on you to read."
Olivia chuckled at that. "I made the mistake and got my hands on those baby books too."
"I swear whoever wrote those things should be shot or better yet forced to have to work with a baby throwing a tantrum." Olivia started laughing at that.
"That's better," Fitz was glad he could cheer her up.
"Thank you. I do feel better now." Olivia smiled even though he couldn't see it.
"Mommy?" Nathan woke up patting on his mother's leg trying to get the sleep out of his eyes.
"I'm sorry sweetie did I wake you?" Olivia pulled him into her arms and Nathan leaned back about to go to sleep.
"Tell Nathan I said Hello," Fitz told her.
"Mr. Fitz says Hello," Olivia smiled at her half asleep child.
"Hi," Nathan yawned and started falling back to sleep.
"He says hello. He'll be knocked back out soon." Olivia told Fitz.
"Oh Good."
"When this is all over, I'm going to take him to Disney. I promised him we would go on a trip together." Olivia kissed her son on the forehead.
"Oh that sounds like fun. Wish I could go."
"I know…" Olivia felt a yawn coming on herself. "We'll probably go to one of the resorts near the beach. Nathan likes the water."
"Speaking of later on, I was thinking about us going out on a date."
"A date where?" Olivia asked feeling drowsy.
"Well that will be a little secret so you can be surprised."
Okay," Olivia yawned. "We'll see."
"Well you go on to bed and I'll talk to you later on. Goodnight Olivia."
"Goodnight, Fitz." Olivia hung up the phone and snuggled close to Nathan so she could finally get a good night sleep. Fitz got ready to go on to bed himself when he got another call.
"Hello?" Fitz asked.
"We got him to crack." Fare told Fitz.
"You did?" Fitz had been informed about the attack on Fare earlier but didn't know he was going to be able to get information that fast.
"Yeah we already got the other mole. A Bryan Warner, he was leaking information to the Sons and he was compensated very well."
"Okay good," Fitz hoped sooner they would have the Guardian and he could be put down for good.
