I don't own Divergent.
Hey, everyone. Here's another update...yeah it doesn't sound as impressive when you've been MIA for like 8 days. Sorry about that. Anyway, I forgot to shoutout to iDivergence, who gave me the idea for the escape. You guys should check out her stories.
Anyway, thanks to everyone who gave me ideas. Sorry if I didn't pick yours! It wasn't personal.
Yeah. So. Here's my update. Enjoy it, 'cause I'm going out of town again tomorrow. I'll be back Tuesday. I'll update if I can. ENJOY!
He looks at me, and, seeing the state I'm in, picks me up and begins jogging with me to the hospital. I takes us about twenty minutes to get there, and by the time we do, Tobias is barely walking from exhaustion and I'm barely maintaining my hold on my consciousness. The nurses deposit us on gurneys and that's about when I lose consciousness.
"Tris. Tris. TRIS!" someone yells. "No, come on. Get out of the coma."
It's Tobias speaking. I can hear him. Why can't I open my eyes? Come on, come on, wake up…
"Please, Tris." This time he's calmer. "Please. Don't you want to see your mom and dad? And Chris? And," he adds, voice lowering. "And please come back for me, Tris. Please. I love you."
I have to wake up. I can do this.
Tobias' hand slips into mine. I am trying so hard to squeeze it back.
Then another voice joins the mix. "Mister Four, you aren't supposed to be in here! Come on, let's get you back to your room."
Tobias leans closer to me. "I'll be back tomorrow, my love. I know you can wake up. You're so strong; you can do it."
And he does come again. I guess it's the next day. I have no real way of knowing. Everything kind of blurs into one everlasting combination of consciousness and unconsciousness.
"Hey, Tris," Toby says. My Toby. "How are you today? I sneaked outta my room again. I want so badly for you to wake up. I want to feel your hand in mine and your lips on mine and -"
I see him. I open my eyes and see him. "T-" I cough - "Toby?"
Tobias grins at me happily and kisses me roughly. "Lemme get Lance, my beautiful, amazing - I don't even have the proper words to describe you." Then he turns to the door and yells, "LANCE! GET IN HERE! SHE WOKE UP!"
Lance and a few nurses rush in. I just lay there, taking everything in. Lance and a nurse do some stuff to me. I don't pay attention. I watch Tobias firmly refuse to leave my room. The two nurses that aren't helping Lance are arguing with him.
After a few minutes, Lance butts in. "Leave him alone, guys. He won't move. Not away from her. You should just as Deshaun to move the bed in here."
The nurses shrug and one of them leaves. The other helps Lance and the first nurse.
"Tris," Lance says gently. "Why aren't you responding?"
"Were you talking to me?" I ask, voice gravelly.
Lance rolls his eyes. "Watching Four, weren't you? Of course you were. I asked what you felt."
I close my eyes and think. "The back of my head hurts like shit. My arm hurts, too, where Will stabbed me, and the rib Eric punched me in hurts. Why?"
"Good. You're feeling the pain," Lance says, strangely pleased. "And Will stabbed you with two knives. One of 'em, in the back of your head, you didn't feel because of the adrenaline. To-Four saw it and rushed you here."
I frown and look over at Tobias, who shrugs and nods. "What happened to Four? Why is he still here? I thought he just had a broken wrist. Why was I in a coma? How long was I out for?"
"Four also had shrapnel from the bomb imbedded in his back. We had to surgically remove a bunch of it," Lance answers. "You were in a coma because that knife hit something - we're not sure what - that sent you into it. We think we repaired the damage. And you were out for nearly a week."
"Is Shauna okay? Did her baby leave? How are Zeke and my mom? And my dad, did he get hurt?" I add.
"Shauna is recovering from a bunch of knife cuts. All of them missed vital organs and her uterus, so she still has the baby. You mother is recovering from a few cuts, too, and Andrew never got hurt in the first place."
"What about Zeke?" I immediately push.
Tobias and Lance exchange glances. "Well, uh, see," Lance stutters.
"What happened?" My heart is already sinking. "Is he not okay?"
"He -"
Then the door opens and Uriah walks in, eyes bloodshot. He gives me a hug. "I'm so glad you're okay, Tris."
"What happened to Zeke?" I ask him. "Is he okay? Lance and Four aren't telling me. I need to know."
Uriah exchanges looks with them, too. "I have to go, Tris. I'm sure Four will tell you…soon."
I'm sure I look panicked right now. "Tobias Eaton, tell me what happened to Zeke. Now."
Tobias looks away. Then he looks back and opens his mouth…
