The night before started off pretty great at the dinner table, but after Peg had sat Erin down next to him, everything started to go downhill.
Every time he looked at the little girl he remembered those moments on the bus when the baby died.
He remembered feeling the eyes of the others on him every now and then, watching him nervously eat while trying to avoid Erin.
Once Margret and Kelly left for the hotel, everyone turned in for the night. He went up to the guest bedroom but found himself silently crying for nearly an hour before he finally fell asleep.
And to top everything off, he made a complete embarrassment of himself. He didn't know what time it was, it was too dark in the room to see the clock, but he could feel someone shaking him awake.
He woke up and saw BJ standing next to the bed and Peg in the door way. They were both in their bathrobes and the room was nearly pitch black.
He sat up and looked at them. "What's going on? Are you two alright?"
He could see BJ faintly frown. "We woke up and heard you yelling at something. Is everything ok? A nightmare?"
He frowned back. "I-I don't know. I'm sorry I woke you two."
He didn't go back to sleep after that.
But now that it was morning, Peg and BJ were probably downstairs fixing breakfast. He quickly threw on a pair of shoes and walked down to the kitchen.
"Hey, I'm sorry about last night."
"Don't worry about it, as long as you're feeling alright."
Hawkeye wished he could have said that was true.
The three of them sat down at the table and began to eat the eggs and bacon that Peg prepared. Erin was still in her room sleeping off the excitement from yesterday.
"These eggs are delicious, Mrs. Hunnicut."
She smiled. "Thank you, and you can call me Peg."
There was a knock at the door. BJ stood up. "I guess when Kelly and Margret said they were going to be here bright and early, they really ment it. I'll be right back."
BJ walked off and left Hawkeye and Peg at the table. They both stopped eating and looked at each other with perplexed faces when they heard BJ shout.
"My God!"
Peg stood up. "Is everything alright, dear?"
BJ shouted back to her and Hawkeye. "Come in the living room!"
Peg and Hawkeye rushed in the living room. Peg smiled at the new face and a large grin spread across Hawkeye's.
"What are you doing here?! I thought you weren't coming, you son of a gun!"
Hawkeye and BJ smiled and laughed while they pulled Radar in for a group hug.
"Well, I never did say I was definitely not coming, I just didn't know if I would make it.
Peg now recognized the small man from pictures that BJ had showed her. "It's nice to meet you, Walter, or would you prefer I also called you Radar?"
"Either's just fine ma'am."
"Well, Radar, we were just starting breakfast, care to join us?"
"Gee, that would be great!"
