"Home sweet home!" I grinned as Remus and I apparated in front of Severus' house. "feels like years since I've been home." I thought out loud staring at the doorknob.
"It very well may have been." Remus chuckled. "You've been spending an awful lot of time at my place you started Hogwarts."
"I suppose that's true." I agreed, swinging the door open. Although it had been a long time since I'd been in my own home, everything looked relatively the same. The front door opened to our small kitchen where a small round table and four matching chairs stood parallel to the doorway. To the right there was a kitchen counter island lined with three barstools. Behind the counter island there was a large ice box, a sink and cupboards full of food. To the left of the Icebox was the door to Severus bedroom. Behind the kitchen table there was a set of rustic wooden stairs that led to my loft bedroom. Under my bedroom there was a small sitting room that was mostly used to store Sev's hundreds and Hundreds of books.
"Severus should be home any minute. If you'll excuse me, I have some things I have to do at home."
"Oh, ok." I nodded sadly as Remus left the house. Remus spent so much time alone, he was usually thrilled to have me home from Hogwarts. I didn't understand why he was leaving me when I'd just come home. Then again he could have been doing something important before I insisted he pick me up from Grimauld place. Sighing I climbed the stairs, and pushed the folding wall aside so I could enter my room. Once upstairs, I enlarged my trunk and started unpacking a few things.
"This is not what I imagined your house looking like Professor Snape!" Emily marveled as she entered our home an hour later.
"Might I assume that was meant as a compliment Miss Smith?" I heard Severus snarl as he dragged something out of the fireplace. Completely overjoyed by their arrival I raced down the stairs and into the sitting room they had climbed into from the fireplace. "Miss Potter I was not expecting you home." Severus glared at me. He must have thought I'd snuck home or used the floo at Grimauld Place.
"Remus brought me home this afternoon. We apparated." I assured him.
"And where is your uncle?" Severus' eyes narrowed at me. I rolled my eyes at his unwarranted suspicions.
"Said he had things to do at home."
"I see." Severus concluded with his deep voice. "Has it occurred to either of you young ladies that Miss Smith will need a place to sleep during her stay?" Emily and I exchanged a look, indicating that we hadn't thought of that. "As I suspected." Severus sighed walking out of the room.
"Where is he going?" Emily whispered to me. I shrugged in response.
"Usually when he walks off mid conversation it means he's going to come back...usually." We waited in the sitting room, listening to the sounds of Sev's feet ascending the stairs. There slight sounds coming from my bedroom upstairs before Severus joined Em and I in the sitting room. "Allison I have trasnfigured your bed into a set of bunk beds so that you and Miss Smith may sleep comfortably during your holiday. Now please assist your friend in getting settled, I have some business to attend to for Professor Dumbledore. I shouldn't be gone for more than a few hours."
"You promise?" I asked uncertainly. After what happened to Mr. Weasley I didn't want anyone else getting hurt.
"I will be fine Allison." Severus replied before disapparating.
"So he's pretty much always that intense." Emily frowned at the spot Severus had disappeared from.
"Only when he has something on his mind. Maybe if he's back by the morning you'll get to have some of his famous homemade waffles." I smiled at the thought as a levitated her trunk towards my bedroom.
"I'm not sure they count as famous if you two are the only ones who've ever had them." Emily pointed out.
"You're probably right." I agreed as we entered my room, her trunk set down on the floor.
"Are you going to tell me what happened to Mr. Weasley or were you hoping Hermione and I didn't notice that you, Harry, Ron, Fred, George, and Ginny had all gone missing overnight?" Emily huffed as she sat atop her trunk.
"No of course I was going to tell you! I'm just...distracted..." Shaking my head I launched into the tale of how Severus had shaken me awake in the middle of the night and brought me to the Headmaster's office. I continued to explain what had happened to Mr. Weasley and what Harry mentioned to Sirius and I. After assuring her that Mr. Weasley seemed to be just fine, I told her what we'd over heard Mad-eye say at St Mungos.
"Do you think Harry really could be possessed by...You-Know-Who?" Emily gasped.
"Um...I'm not sure. I mean I think he'd know if he was being possessed would he?"
"Maybe we could ask Professor Snape when he get back?" She suggested.
"No!" I shook my head violently. "There are some things I can talk to Sev about, and anything related to Harry is not an option. But...Remus lives next door. Maybe we could ask him?"
"Let's go!" Emily bounced up on the balls of her feet and tugged at my wrist. "Um where does Remus live.?" She frowned once she stepped outside the house.
"Follow me." I chuckled, walking away from the house and towards the fence that separated the two properties. " Severus doesn't like it when I do this, but it's faster than taking the road." I explained before climbing over the fence. Emily scurried after me quickly.
"Wait..." Emily flung her arms out suddenly as if she'd just remembered something important. "I've been to Remus' house before." She recalled. "Me and Mary came to visit the summer before second year. How come We didn't see Professor Snape's house back then? We came pretty close to the border when we were riding horses."
"I asked Remus once if anyone else could see our houses because we don't really get many visitors out here. He said that both houses were protected differently, but that Muggles or people who weren't invited cannot see them."
"That sounds like really complicated magic." Emily cooed.
"I'm sure Dumbledore had something to do with it." I shrugged as we continued walking.
"Will I be able to see Remus' house since I haven't been invited?" Emily bit her lip nervously.
" I'm not really sure how it all works, but you've been before so I'm sure it's ok." We were nearing Remus' front door and Emily was relieved that she could in fact see it.
"Are you sure he won't mind that we just barged in?" Emily frowned again as I pushed open Remus' front door.
"Nah, I do this all the time." I stepped inside the house and was about to call for Remus when I heard shouting from upstairs. I quickly put a finger to my lips signaling to Emily to be quiet. She closed the door silently behind her before I tugged her downstairs.
