Kanojo Hisoka
Chapter Forty Nine
A Half Heart
"Naraku, apparently the girls are missing." Kisame announced with his usual aloofness as he walked into the ceremonial room where the dark haired man was in. His dark eyes took in the fully furnished room, and he to admit that the room looked really official and somewhat regal. Perhaps Naraku had a vision after all.
"What?" Naraku seethed out with incredulous red eyes.
Kisame winced slightly at his partner's tight tone, and he scratched the back of his head awkwardly. "I received word that Konoha Brat escaped from Sasori and Deidara this afternoon, but they are tracking her as we speak." Kisame informed him, which left Naraku feeling slightly comforted.
He narrowed his eyes, "What about the other girl?" He questioned tightly as he collected himself. Kisame's face darken slightly. "Orochimaru had sent word just a few minutes ago that the girl went to Konoha, a minor set back he said, and that he would handle her." Naraku grunted in displeasure, hardly believing the odd shinobi would handle the situation. How hard was it to watch a woman for a week or two?
"What about your rogue shinobi, Kisame? How many are still in the game?" He asked out of curiosity. Kisame looked thoughtful for a moment before shrugging his shoulders. "The more ruthless shinobi have taken out the weaker ones. So, I would say a dozen or so." He replied easily.
"Not bad." Naraku commented with a small smirk. The selfish desires and killing intent those rogue shinobi will bring to the gem will contribute to its tainting. The gem will be more powerful when it was soiled with selfish desires and malicious feelings.
After he killed them off and drenched the gem in their blood he will make his wish after performing the ceremony on the girls. It will be the same ritual Midoriko performed on her daughters, but slightly different since he will be shredding their bodies searching for the gem.
"There you go again laughing to yourself. It's creepy, man." Kisame muttered out with a creep out expression on his face.
Naraku brought his plotting eyes over to his blue skinned partner before glaring at him tightly. He will make sure to personally take out the idiot himself.
"Never mind that. I want you to get Kagome now. Bring her back here with the puppet master and the bomber." Naraku ordered him with a grin. "We only have five days before we conduct the ceremony. Let everyone know that they still stand a chance at getting their wish, and to be here by then for a final show down." Naraku added with an evil glower.
Kisame grinned at the news.
Finally, he was starting to get bored with just waiting around here doing nothing.
"You got it, partner." Kisame grinned out as he retreated.
"You're saying that you possess one half of the Shikon no Tama?" Fugaku reiterated once more, now in his seat from his earlier outburst. There was a strained look to his expression now. He looked really troubled about the gem being split. Kikyo wondered if that was a problem.
"Yes, between myself and my sister." Kikyo informed him.
Fugaku looked to his wife and his look was grave. "I have no choice, but to translate the tablets for her. The fate of the world is in danger." He told Mikoto seriously. "I'm sure the elders will understand." Mikoto told him with a comforting smile as she laid a gentle hand on his arm. "We might also have to inform the Hokage about this, too." She added as a second thought.
Kikyo's eyes widen at his words. She didn't think this would effect the world. At the very most she thought the lives of her and her sister were being threaten. Kikyo turned to look at Itachi with worry in burning in her eyes.
"This is bigger than I previously thought." She confessed with a slight tremor to her tone. He agreed with her. This was more than he bargained for, and worse of all it involved Kagome, who was out there on her own. The amount of worry that assaulted him at that moment left his chest feeling heavy.
"Let's go now," Fugaku told them, his stare reaching Kikyo and his son. "It will be a long night since there is much that you need to learn." He told the priestess evenly before walking away.
Kikyo brought her startled eyes over to Itachi, and watched as he stood up as well. "I'll pack us a quick bento in case we get hungry later." He told her quietly before leaving to the kitchen with his dishes. He also needed the time for himself to think.
Kikyo remained seated, not knowing what to do with herself. She contemplated on following Itachi to the kitchen, but he seemed preoccupied mentally. She didn't want to be alone with his father either, so that left her in Mikoto's presence.
"Those two are so alike. They get like that when they're really worried." Mikoto informed Kikyo with a slight, and thoughtful frown. The priestess remained silent, not sure of what to say to that. She hardly knew the two men.
"Since they're busy getting prepared for tonight, why don't I tell you some stories about Kagome that I know about from Sasuke and his teammates." Mikoto offered with a small smile, hoping that it will relax the priestess's nerves.
Kikyo's eyes lit up at the proposal, and she eagerly followed the pregnant woman to the living room.
"Hey, Inuyasha," Kagome muttered out softly as she peered from over his shoulder from her position on his back. He turned his head slightly to make slight eye contact with her. "What is it?" He grunted out as he leaped from tree branch to tree branch with Shippo right besides him. His emerald irises kept track of his path while his enhance hearing locked in to Kagome's voice.
"I think I can run on my own now." Kagome told him with a slight blush to her cheeks. She felt humiliated that she had to ride on his back. Even after her meal and some rest she wasn't able to continue running on her own. Her body was still too weak, and needed proper rest.
"Not a chance, you'll slow us down again." He told her bluntly, causing Kagome to sigh in defeat and return to her moping. "Maybe we should set up camp, Inuyasha?" Shippo stated. He wouldn't mind taking a rest either. They've been running all day, and it was already well into the night by now.
Inuyasha narrowed his eyes, and after a few minutes he came to a stop, and landed on the ground before kneeling down to let Kagome off. The kunoichi smiled in relief as she climbed off his back and stretched her sore muscles.
"Good idea, Shippo." Kagome chirped with a smile, causing the small kitsune to smile shyly at her in return at her compliment.
"Yeah, yeah, yeah." Inuyasha stated with furrowed brows as he waved his hand in dismissal.
"You humans are so annoying. Always needing to rest just when we were actually making some progress." He told them with an irritated scowl on his face. Kagome sent him a dirty look.
"Well, sorry we humans make your life so difficult." Inuyasha sent her a sharp glare before scoffing at her, and finding a spot at the base of a tree to sit against. He remained silent after her comment, and kept his eyes closed with furrowed brows set in irritation.
Kagome felt the air between them change all of a sudden. She blinked in surprise before wondering what she had said to cause the mood to shift so quickly. She sighed before laying on the grass while Shippo made a small fire with his fox magic. She took the time to assess her chakra reserves. She was building chakra again, but it wasn't where she wanted them to be. They were still low.
The medic flexed her right hand and tried to circulate some chakra into it. She was pleased when she felt the familiar hum of energy flowing through her fingers. By tomorrow she should be at half capacity, if not more. The village was a day and a half away, and she was certain once she had a proper meal and sleep she would be back to normal again.
Afterwards she would search for her sister, and find Naohi for Magatsuhi. He's been awfully quiet lately, and she guessed it was due to her weaken state.
"Hey, Kagome, can you tell me what it's like to be a ninja?" Shippo asked suddenly, bringing Kagome out from her thoughts as she turned to see him sitting by the fire with wide, excited eyes. Kagome grinned slightly at the question.
"Sure, what do you want to know?" She asked as she took a comfortable position on the ground, preferring to lie on her stomach as she held her head between her hands.
"Well, I have lots of questions! First, how long does it take to become a ninja? How many missions does one go on? What's it like to do those jutsu, is it like my fox magic?!" He questioned rapidly, causing Kagome to laugh at his excitement. Her eyes were filled with warmth as she answered his questions in the order he gave them in.
Inuyasha remained silent, peering one eye open as he listened in on their conversation. He was curious too about what made a ninja, but he would be caught dead if he showed any interest openly. He preferred to silently listen to Kagome's account of what it took to become a ninja and what it was like. It didn't hurt that he found the way her eyes lit up brightly to be nice.
After the fire went out and his two companions fell asleep, Inuyasha calculated how long it will take them to reach the village. If they had a quick breakfast tomorrow morning, and hit the road soon after they could be in the village by tomorrow afternoon.
Inuyasha wondered what the girl will do once she leaves their little group. He considered what little he knew about her past, and figured she was on the run if she had been in prison, and then soon after kidnapped. Was she a criminal? Somehow he doubted that thought, and knew she was anything but helpless if she could hold off an attack from Sesshomaru. He narrowed his eyes at the memory of her interference. The stupid wench didn't know what she had gotten herself into.
Well, whatever she finds herself doing wasn't any of his business, and for some reason the thought bothered him slightly. It was similar to the way he felt when he thought about Shippo being off on his own. The young kitsune had a lot to learn about what it means to be a demon, and how to survive.
Would Kagome be able okay after she left them?
It was a question that Inuyasha was mindful of.
Deciding to quiet his thoughts and get some rest, the half demon closed his eyes and relaxed his body slightly. It wasn't long before his muscles were lax and his head began to nod slightly. His canine ears swiveled from time to time at the small sounds that echoed throughout the forest, searching for anything out of the ordinary.
There was a sudden nagging feeling he got in the back of his mind that suddenly made him wake up. When he opened his eyes again, the sky was painted in light pastel colors, indicating dawn's fast approach.
Something was off, and it bothered Inuyasha's instincts.
He scanned the area with sharp golden irises while his ears listened intently for any noise. It was completely silent, and that was the problem. Why weren't those annoying birds chirping or the deer roaming around with their young grazing?
The change in the atmosphere made Inuyasha stand up swiftly, and flex his claws. "Whose out there?" He demanded angrily.
"Show yourself, you bastard!" He threaten with a snarl, causing Kagome to stir awake along with Shippo. With sleepy eyes, Kagome stared at Inuyasha as she sat up. "Inuyasha?" She questioned in a soft voice, as she rubbed the sleep from out of her eyes. "What's the deal?" She asked with narrowed eyes soon after.
"Shut up, stupid. We have company, so get your ass up. You too, Shippo." He sneered out unpleasantly. Kagome dismissed his rudeness in favor of his words about intruders. Fear struck her heart then, and she quickly stood up and got into her defensive stance.
She prayed that it wasn't her kidnappers. They couldn't have caught up so quickly to her, right? She couldn't read any chakra signatures surrounding them, so they must have been concealing themselves.
"Inuyasha, I smell one person. He smells like gunpowder and clay." Shippo informed them. Inuyasha nodded in agreement. "I think it's those ninjas from the other night. The ones who were fighting when we found the girl." He gritted out as he began to connect the dots mentally, while trying to sniff out the other guy.
"Oh, no." Kagome muttered out in dismay at the information going on between Inuyasha and Shippo. Those were the right description for Deidara, and that meant Sasori was close by as well. Her words of dismay did not go unnoticed by Inuyasha.
"Are these friends of yours?" He asked in a harsh tone, feeling his body stiffen in anticipation. They were going to attack soon, he could sense it.
Kagome sent him a sharp look.
"NO!" She snapped out with angry eyes at the question.
It was then that a barrage of puppets came flying from out the tree tops from every direction, followed by bombs going off from behind them.
A/N: What will be revealed to Kikyo and Itachi about the Jewel? And will Kagome be able to defeat Sasori and Deidara once and for all with the help of her new companions? How will this fight go? :)
