Dates
We ended up back at the motel room, finally checking in, all we owned in the bags hanging off our shoulders. The room looked like something from the seventies, disco balls, white and black tiles and walls, disco music included. "Huh." I said, barely noticing as Sam and Dean did the same the same time I did. I moved further into my room, dropping my bag on one of the white and black checkered beds.
"What was...providence?" Dean asked Sam, dropping his bag on the other bed. Since I was...distracted, I certainly didn't know what they were talking about.
Sam joined me so I guess I was bunking with him tonight. "It's a certificate of origin, like a biography." Sam started explaining. "You know, we can use them to check the history of the pieces, see if any of them have a freaky past."
"Well we're not getting anything out of chuckles but Sarah..." Dean smirked.
"Whose Sarah?" I asked, having not been there during their little meeting.
"This chick at the auction house that was checking out Sam's butt."
"Sammy's got a girlfriend!" I teased even as Sam denied it quickly.
Several hours passed with us forcing Sam to call Sarah, force him into a tux with half the money we had pooled together in his wallet and literally shoving him out our motel room door. "Well I'm going out, be back in a couple hours." I called, pulling on my jacket and hurrying out the door.
"A few hours?" Dean shouted after me. "Where are you going?"
"Wouldn't you like to know." I slammed the door in his face. I hurried into the night and around the corner where I knew who would be waiting. Derek was standing under the street light, now wearing an old pair of jeans and a nice button up tshirt.
"Chris!" His face lit up as he straightened up when he caught sight of me.
"Not late am I?" I questioned as I reached his side.
"You, never." Derek reached into his pocket. "I got you something." And then he pulled out a handful of those little wrapped candies I was eating at the auction house. "I noticed how much you like them..." He seemed embarrassed.
I smiled a little and held one out. "Wanna share?" He should feel very special considering I never shared my candy. We walked to the diner, so used to cheep food of burgers and beer to even consider some place different, more of the date scene different.
"You seem different somehow...happier." Derek noticed after we ordered.
I grinned proudly. "Because my little brother Sam is going on his first date in nine months."
Derek whistled, "Why haven't he been dating for so long?"
That was when I turned sad, looking down at my lap. "Sam got into collage when he was eighteen, full ride scholarship to Stanford." I puffed up proudly, my baby brother was a genius. "But...while he was there, he fell in love with this girl Jess. He was going to ask her to marry him but the weekend before he was planning to ask, Dean and I showed up...nine months ago. We decided to uh, take a little weekend trip together. We spent time in a town a few hours away from the collage, Jericho. That night the weekend was ending, Dean and I dropped Sam off back home. He had just reached his apartment and we were about to leave...when the whole building caught fire. Everyone got out safe, everyone except for Jess. Sam never forgave himself, believing he could have done something to save her. I can't help but wonder if he had never went with us...would he have been out of the apartment proposing to Jess while the apartment building burned."
The table lapsed into a brief silence as our food arrived. "Chris," I glanced up, having already pushed back my emotions and acting like I usually did. I didn't like feeling all this emotional guilt so I usually pushed it into the back of my mind. I guess I was sort of like Dean in that aspect. He grabbed my wrist to stop me from grabbing the ketchup for my fries. My head shot up and I looked surprise to see Derek looking as serious as could be. "You have to know it wasn't your fault." He said firmly.
I slowly forced myself to nod, only feeling a little better despite I still had guilt over the matter. "Of course, I know." After that, we had a nice little evening to ourselves, spending nearly and hour at the diner even when we were finished just to keep talking.
Then we spent a little time walking around the town, forgetting time as it passed. "We might want to stop here," I warned just before we reached the motel. "Dean's probably on the look out for me."
"Of course." Derek quickly agreed, rubbing his neck. He remembered when Chris herself pinned him against the wall, (AN: look back to scarecrow episodes). He hated to think what an older brother would do to him if he caught them on a date. But then again, he thought as he leaned down for a goodbye kiss, it may be worth it. Her lips were slightly chapped but that just made it all that more arousing. She licked at his lips and he opened his mouth, letting her tongue invade his as he did the same. His hands slid under her jacket to wrap around her waist, feeling the warmth from a sliver of skin that revealed itself as she lifted her arms to go around his neck. They only pulled apart when it became clear that they needed to breathe.
"I'll see you later?" I asked, breathing hard.
His breathing matched hers. "That's something I won't be missing." I smiled a little, pressing one last chaste kiss to his lips. Since they're little date was over, I left and Derek didn't move until he could no longer see her when she went around the corner of the motel towards her room.
