Chapter 52

Korra sat in her room at the Air Temple, contemplating on what she should do next. A lot of things happened in the recent twelve years, especially in the past few months. Korra finally reconnected with her father, who to the girls sorrow turned out to be her nemesis. Korra tried to reconcile with Noatak, and despite still loving him, the Avatar could not visit Noatak more as it hurt her to see him rot in prison.

The girl finally stood up and put on her clothes before heading out. The girl was silent. As she approached the dinning room, she entered it. She saw that her teacher and his kids already sat at the table. "Hello Korra, how are you?" asked Tenzin, as he looked at his pupil proudly, but Korra did not reply. The girl found it difficult to communicate with others when she lost her connections to water, earth, and fire.

Korra ignored Tenzin and sat by the table before putting some salad on her plate. She ate her food slowly, and occasionally a small tear escaped her eyes.

"Korra, what's wrong?" asked Jinora

"Does Korra want to play Air ball? Ikki loves Air ball game! Now we have four Air benders who enjoy games we can play it" spoke Ikki very quickly.

"Air ball! Go Korra! Be the leaf!" exclaimed Meelo as he smiled.

Korra looked at her surrogate family and made a small smile before finishing her plate. As Korra stood up and prepared to leave the room, she saw that her Air bending Master approached and looked at her.

"Korra, I know something is bothering you. Please tell me, maybe I can help you," spoke Tenzin, as he looked his apprentice in the eyes.

"Nobody can help me," replied Korra as a small tear escaped her eye before the girl run away from the Air bending family.

Tenzin sighed. "Kids, promise me you will be more open about your problems in your teenage years". While Meelo and Ikki were happy to agree with that statement, Jinora quietly shook her head much to Tenzin's disappointment.

As Korra walked back to her room, she kept thinking about her recent battle with her father; an image of her loosing bending kept repeating over and over again in her mind. As Korra concentrated on her thoughts, she did not notice General Iroh, with whom she collided.

"Sorry," spoke Korra as she took his hand, trying to get back on her feet.

"Korra, Asami and I are getting really worried. You have not spoken with either of us since yesterday and after your attempt to end your life yesterday, I became really worried," spoke Iroh.

"I am fine, I am not suicidal. Please leave me alone," spoke Korra as she tried to leave but Iroh gently grabbed her hand.

"Korra, we all care about you, you are not alone. Tell me, what's bothering you? Is it Amon? Your loss of bending? Something else?" asked Iroh.

"I, I feel really bad right now, leave me alone," exclaimed Korra as she pulled her hand away and ran away from her friend. As Korra escaped the house, she arrived to the garden, where she sat on the grass next to a small stream of water. The young woman took off her shoes as she tried to feel the elements, but senses no connections to them. She was really left with air now. Another tear escaped her eye.

As the sun disappeared, and the sky became darker, Korra still sat in silence in her spot in the garden. She ignored her hungry stomach for a while. She did not want to eat. She just wanted to sit in silence and look at nature for a long time.

When her surroundings finally got pitch black, Korra finally decided to return to the house to get food. Korra quietly stood up and went inside, soon arriving once again to the dinning room. The room was dark, everybody apparently left to bed by then. Korra tiptoed to the kitchen, took a container with food and put some on her plate, before returning to the table and quietly eating her dinner. She sighed, she really did not know what to do at this point in her life. Amon cut out a large part of her life away from her.

After Korra finished her dinner, she headed to her room and looked around. The room was tidy; the Air Acolyte monks had cleaned her room. As she observed, Korra realized she did not have many possessions in the room- only some of her articles of clothing among a few small items. Korra took a piece of parchment, wrote a note, put it on her bed, took her extra clothes, and left the room.

As Korra was ready to leave the house, a figure approached her. "I know what you are doing now, and I will not stop you. Please take these items with you, they might become helpful to you, Korra," spoke Iroh as he looked at Korra. As Korra looked at the items, she saw two Dao swords and a blue white mask.

"Thank you. Please look after Asami," spoke Korra as she hugged Iroh.

"I will, my baby sister Turtle Duck," smiled Iroh. Korra's grip tightened and then she let Iroh go.

Korra took the swords, put them together into one blade and attached the sword to her back. She then looked at the blue white mask that had two very long teeth and put it on before disappearing into the night.

Iroh looked for some time at Korra, who soon completely disappeared from sight, and then went back to the house. Meanwhile, Korra ran into the night, trying to escape her problems in Republic City. The Avatar wanted to be alone, to reflect on her life.

Next morning, when Asami went to check up on her friend, she stood by Korra's door for ten minutes. "All right Korra, I am entering" spoke Asami as she entered the room, only to find her best friend missing.
