I had a feeling that I might not like the finale after watching it, but I did not expect to not like the entire show anymore afterwards. But it happened, and I have completely fallen out of love with HIMYM.
I could go on and on about it, these are the things that bucked me most:
- How dare they treat Cobie and Neil like that?
- Apparently women can't be successful and in happy relationships? Yeah, why not crap all over female emancipation.
- The show and the actors simply didn't deserve such a horrible ending.
- The creators & CBS's arrogance, and their utter lack to acknowledge that the majority of fans hated the finale.
I could keep going.
Did you guys sign the petition to shoot another ending? It's unlikely to happen, but if it would we'd be writing tv history (and the whole better ending thing would be good too).
Anyways, first I was set on never watching/writing anything himym related ever again, but after a few days I have decided to finish this story simply because it deals with Robin's travels and I want to prove that it's not a deal breaker for them.
It's not a long chapter, but I will post some more over the weekend.
Let's Catch Up
"Hey, where is Lily?" Barney asked as he let himself fall into the seat next to Ted.
"It's Parents-Teachers Night at her school." Marshall shrugged.
"How was Lisbon?" Ted asked.
"Yeah, how is Robin doing?" Marshall chipped in.
"Robin was doing me, so naturally she's doing good." He winked at them.
"Naturally." Marshall repeated sarcastically.
"I still don't get that she goes there with you." Ted mumbled.
"What is not to get? I am awesome." Barney motioned Carl to bring him a scotch.
"I don't get it either, properly because she never has time to meet and date guys, so she just goes for the safe option." Marshall shrugged.
"There is nothing safe about the way we do it."
"Please stop. I want to be able to look her in the eyes next time I see her." Ted said.
Barney just sniggered.
"So did you get to see parts of Lisbon too or only of Robin?" Marshall asked.
"Nice." Barney high-fived him.
Ted just shook his head and nipped his beer.
"No we explored a little…and yes, I am not just talking about Lisbon." Barney winked once more.
"Seriously, why would a sweet girl like Robin choose you as an affair? There gots to be thousand of hot guys in Lisbon that would treat her better than you."
"Hey, who says I don't treat her well?" Barney asked.
"Do you ever treat a girl well?" Marshall countered.
Carl put the scotch down in front of Barney and asked, "how's Robin?"
"She's doing great." Barney replied.
"Is she still in Lisbon?"
"Yeah, going to Bejing next."
"Man, she sure gets around." Carl said and walked away.
"Tell us more, did you enjoy some time at the beach?" Marshall asked.
Barney nodded, "yeah, we went a couple of times, mostly at night."
"That sounds romantic." Marshall grinned sheepishly.
Barney grinned, "is romantic the right word? I mean sure we did walk a while until we found an excluded spot, but there was nothing romantic about the way I banged her once we found one."
"Barney!" Ted exclaimed annoyed, "Stop talking about her like that."
Barney just took a big sip from his scotch.
"So guess what happened when you were gone." Marshall said.
"What?"
"Victoria changed her mind in the last minute and went to Germany after all." Marshall explained.
"For real?" Barney asked Ted.
"Yeah…but I mean, it's fine. We talked about it and, it's okay. We are going to try long distance."
"I guess long distance isn't that bad, as long as you get to bang other girls while she's gone." Barney thought out loud.
"Is that the arrangement you and Robin officially have?" Marshall asked.
"Nah, our arrangement is the following; bro's who occasionally get nasty with each other. No strings attached. Unless we are doing bondage." He winked.
"Barney you really have to stop talking like this. I am scared I will believe all these crazy hints you drop about Robin one day, and that's so not cool." Ted sighed.
Barney shrugged.
"So yeah, Victoria is gone, but she'll be visiting. And I will go to Deutschland too."
Barney rolled his eyes, sure he would. He couldn't even remember all the times Ted had told Robin that he would visit her, or wanted to go to a place she had been to.
He noticed an attractive brunette at the bar and decided to go after her instead of listening to Ted's whining.
"Great talking to you guys." He was out of the booth before either one of them could say anything else.
He started talking to the girl, noticing the bewildered looks Marshall and Ted threw into his direction every now and then.
It only spurned him on more.
The girl was clearly trying to prove something by taking him home with her, and they ended up fooling around all night. He was going to sneak out at four am, but she caught him and told him that he could just get up and leave in the morning, no hard feelings.
There were some more hard feelings afterwards – what up – and before drifting back to sleep completely, Barney wondered whether or not Robin had already slept with her re-bound guy.
There always was a re-bound guy after they hooked up, he knew that, except that this time, they wouldn't talk about it.
The next morning, the girl proved to be as laid back as she said she'd be and he walked out of her apartment around nine am.
He scanned the street he was on, not sure where he was exactly, and pulled his phone out to check whether or not he was missing an important thing at work or not.
He wasn't. No mail from Robin either.
"Barney?"
Surprised he spun around, and froze in his tracks when he recognized the girl standing there.
"Wow, it's really you. How…how are you doing?" She asked.
Barney felt his heart rate go up, he was so not prepared for this.
"Good…how are you?" He asked, voice trembling.
"I am doing okay, it's not easy being a single mom, you know?"
"I am sure it's not." He replied, not knowing what else to say.
"What are you doing in this neighborhood?" She asked.
"Just…you know…stuff. What are you doing here?"
"I live two blocks away, I just dropped Max off at school."
He nodded.
"Look Barney, I know a lot has happened between us, but would you want to grab a coffee with me?"
"Right now?" He asked.
She nodded, "there is a nice coffeehouse around the corner, it's not quite as busy. Maybe we could talk?"
Barney took a deep breath, and finally nodded, "yeah, why not. Lead the way Shannon."
