Chapter 92 – Warzone

Jack

All hell was breaking loose. We had noticed some odd activity the past week, but we never saw this coming. We had suspected they thought the cameras were being tampered with. Of course, at first, they questioned the other doctors in the lab, but it didn't take long for them to narrow their search to Leo and Carlisle.

Our security boys started trying to throw them off the scent, but it didn't work. It only ended up dooming them. The five guys we had penetrate security were exposed and executed without even a second thought, last words or an interrogation. They were shot in cold blood.

I tried to pull myself together, but I struggled when I saw them fall. I quickly passed Russell to Elizabeth and started shouting orders to our team. We had to get eyes on our guys who were still inside. We had to find a way to get word to them that we were still on their side. I would come and get them myself if I had to, damn it!

George pulled up the facility's cameras, and what we saw was not promising. Carlisle and Leo were trapped with the last of the girls, begging for help. Edward and Cat were running for their lives. We watched as they ran to the floor they had been working on, and I hoped to god they were able to get away. I saw EDEN security surrounding the whole building and blocking off Edward's exit through the crematorium elevator.

I heard a gasp and a sob come from the doorway. Bella stood their wide-eyed, crying as she watched Edward run for his life and disappear into the unmonitored area. Close to a dozen security guards were after him.

"Jack," Bella sobbed, "You've got to do something! You have to save him!" she begged. The son I had just found I was losing too fast.

She slid down the wall sobbing as I looked over at her, and we sat silently, trying to think of a way to save our family.

The cameras that were on Carlisle and Leo were suddenly out. There was some sort of explosion, and we didn't know if they had made it out. George pulled up the cameras just outside of the hall, and we saw them climbing over the bodies of the guards. We all let out a sigh of relief, but as we watched the rest of their escape play out, we gasped in horror. They were caught.

We stood, stunned and panicked, and I was trying to think of a way to get the guys out of there. There were twenty guards surrounding them at least. Our transport was just outside the crematorium, damn it! There were only three guys in it to help, though. There were not enough men left to get them out.

The phone ringing broke the silence. I looked at it, confused at first; not knowing who would be left to call, but I answered it nonetheless. "Jack," I said gruffly.

"Jack! Oh, thank god."

"Edward!" I said excited. "Are you alright?" I asked. Bella was at my side instantly.

"Jack, we're stuck. I have the kids with me, and they can help, but we need a way out, we need transport."

"The transport is ready and waiting just past the crematorium, but you can't go out that way," I said sadly. "There are twenty or so guards down there who've caught Carlisle and Leo with the women and babies."

"They have them?" he asked choking up.

"Yes."

"Are they still alive?"

Jacked was quiet. "They are for the moment, but they were quick to kill the rats they found, Edward. I don't think they're going to keep them around long."

At that, Edward hung up, and I prayed to god that my boy would make it out.

Edward

I got to a lab phone and was amazed I was able to call out. I quickly called Jack, only to be upset by what I heard. They had my dad and Leo, and the transport was just out of reach. I sank down into a seat and then looked up at the leader in front of me. "They have the others. They caught them just as they were getting out. They're blocking the way to the transport. We're stuck."

The boy pulled open a drawer and handed me two sets of earplugs. I had realized then that Cat and I had gotten so used to leaving ours in that we hadn't even noticed we had forgotten to take them out at lunch, just before we made our way back here.

"We have some," I said pointing to my ears.

The boy narrowed his eyes at me and shoved them into my hand.

I just nodded okay and stuck them in my pocket. Maybe I would need them for later.

Carlisle

We were surrounded. I quickly sat up on my ALDO cart holding the women and babies, and Leo did the same, hoping to delay their capture long enough so that Jack could hopefully come to their rescue. The EDEN men surrounded us, eyeing us as if we might actually have something up our sleeves, and I wished we did. Unfortunately, we had already used all of our explosives.

They kept looking around, as if they were waiting for something. If they were going to kill us, I wished they would just get it over with already.

The elevator doors opened, and I expected Dr. Payne or Dr. Sakrene, or maybe even the brothers to be there, smirking and ready to watch our demise, but it wasn't them.

Edward stepped out of the elevator and ran over to us, not even flinching as he passed the guards. He hugged me, and when he did, he pressed something into my hand. He did the same to Leo. I looked down and saw it was earplugs. I didn't understand what good it would do us, until the elevator doors opened again.

The piercing sound dropped us to our knees instantly, and the guards dropped their guns, covering their ears. I quickly worked my earplugs in, as did Leo. The children walked forward, and I could feel the pressure of the soundwaves pulsing against me. The pressure was unbearable, and I saw that Edward had covered his eyes, and so Leo and I did the same, all of us lying flat out on the floor.

A few moments later, it stopped. I felt Edward move next to me, getting to his feet, and then he pulled on me to get up as well. He hugged me tightly. The elevator opened again, and Cat stepped out holding two babies and leading several other small children. The children had moved in closely and looked concerned.

Edward seemed to know what they wanted and opened the ALDO carts. Thank god the steel boxes had protected the women and babies. Edward pointed, smiling down at the precious cargo, and the young man who looked to be the oldest stepped forward. When he saw the girls alive inside, he reached down, pulling one up into his arms and hugging her.

"I knew you could do it, Nine," she said softly, and I saw it was the feisty girl who had been looking for a fight.

"We've got to get out of here. I'm sure they're sending in backup. Once we're in the transport, we can let Jack know it's safe to let the bunker busters go," Edward said and quickly started ushering us to the three vans waiting anxiously for us.

"We were worried you weren't going to make it out," the driver said.

"So were we," I answered. "So were we."

I heard Edward giving Jack the all clear, and then he told the children to look out the back window, as we quickly drove away. We saw the missiles leaving a trail of smoke, as they headed for their target.

The first one hit, rocking the van as it sped away, and I watched as the stern faces of the children all turned to smiles, as the missiles continued to rain hell down upon EDEN, completely annihilating the entire facility.

This was one war I prayed was over.

Chapter 93 – Homecoming

Edward

We were met by the jet and taken back to the base, where Bella flew straight into my arms sobbing. I held her so tightly I was sure it hurt, but I was so relieved that I could hold her in my arms. I had thought I would never see her again. Cat was doing the same with Garrett, and Leo with Claire. Carlisle was holding my mother and kissing her cheek softly, as Ethan looked on nervously. I knew now that Ethan had been developed using part of Caius's research.

The first sonic I had saved came up with something that looked like a doctor's mask on. He was with the finder who had been rescued with him. They both hurried forward, and Jack brought out a box with similar masks.

"These here take the edge off your voice, so you can talk to us. Ain't that right, Timmy boy," he said messing the first sonic boy's hair.

"Yeah, check it out, I can talk and no one cries or gets headaches. I can even laugh and not kill anyone!"

That was the first anyone had heard of that side effect. That would have been good to know.

The leader picked a mask out of the box and looked at it carefully. He saw that it was just held on with Velcro. He walked over to Timmy and told him to hand the mask to him. Tim took his off with ease and passed it to him. The leader, or "Nine" as he had become known, looked at the adults.

"You don't have to wear it," Jack said. "It just makes it easier for you to tell us what you need or want without busting our ears."

Nine handed the mask back to Tim and put his on. The girl that Nine had hugged when he had pulled her out of the ALDO box wrapped her arms around him, kissing his cheek and then quickly helped the others get their masks on.

"Well, now that that's out of the way, how 'bout we go have some fun? We have a kitchen full of snacks and a playroom full of toys just waiting to be played with!" Jack said with a smile.

The kids still looked nervous, but then my kids came running forward and jumped into my arms. I hugged them tightly, kissing their heads. A few of the other children started coming forward.

"They're happy," Nine said to me.

"Yes, that's our goal, to keep you all safe and happy."

He looked at us curiously. "Why?"

I frowned. "Because you guys are just kids, you deserve to have a happy, safe and carefree life. What they did was beyond wrong. Once we knew what they were doing, we had to stop it."

Several of the women we had saved came forward and were helping with the babies who had just arrived.

I smiled when Derrick walked forward, holding his brother. "I'm glad your back," he said sincerely, and I stepped forward, hugging them both.

"I'm glad to be back. I'm happy it's finally over."

He frowned a little. "You know it's never truly over."

"Yeah, unfortunately you may be right, Son. Even after a nuclear blast, there are always a few damn cockroaches that survive. Don't worry, Derrick, we'll be watching and call the exterminators to get them taken care of," Jack said and patted his shoulder.

I walked the children back toward the new section that Jack had shown me on the map. He said he put the sonics together, so they only had to wear the masks when they came out, but they could be themselves otherwise. The finders were able to stay with them and endure their voices, because they had been developed off of the same formula and had the same ear structure.

Next to the door that led to their section was a huge box of earplugs. I put in a fresh pair and smiled. "Please notice there's no lock on this door. You're free to come and go as you please, but please put your mask on when you come out here or bring a notepad with you, so you can communicate with others," I said smiling.

When we stepped over the threshold, I let them pass me. The first room was a huge playroom full of toys. "In here you can take off your masks and talk freely. Everyone knows that coming through that door will take their hearing without earplugs, so they do so at their own risk unless they plug up before entering. This whole section is yours. There's no way to lock anyone into a room, only to lock someone out." I showed them the bathrooms and taught them how to use the locks on their bathroom and bedroom doors. There were two beds in every room, and I explained that they all would have to share a room, but they would have their own beds.

"We're setting up a school, because there are so many children, so you'll need to attend classes and wear your mask, but they'll all be gifted like you, so there's no reason to be nervous."

The girl with Nine took his hand and smiled. I remembered she was one of Carlisle's children and felt sick that she had been impregnated so young. "They'll want to check you out and see what they can do for you to help you care for your baby."

Nine frowned, and the girl squeezed his hand.

"He can come with you if that'd make you feel more comfortable," I offered, and she nodded her head yes. I led them to where Carlisle was setting up his office. He gave them a soft smile as they entered.

"Can you get these two taken care of, so they can get back to getting the others settled?" I asked, and he nodded in agreement.

Carlisle

The little girl Edward brought in was the youngest I'd seen by far, and I was not sure if she would survive a pregnancy. I looked at how the boy watched her carefully. One would think they were a breeding pair, but I knew this was not the case.

"How do you two know each other?" I asked pulling up her file. "You were in different parts of the lab."

"Not always," the girl said smiling. "We were in the same lab. I'm a finder and can escape from anywhere. I'd snuck out a few times and saw how the sound of the sonic's voices hurt the doctor's ears," she smiled at the boy softly. "I told Nine here that they were much stronger than the doctors. That I was sure they'd be able to escape if they could get their collars off." The boy rubbed his neck at the thought.

"I was able to slip them the badge to release the collars, but I was caught on the way back to my cage. I was moved to the women's floor and had a tracking device implanted, so they could keep track of me."

I nodded, smiling. "Then it was you who helped them take over the floors. Good work," I complimented.

The boy smiled and nodded yes, and the girl blushed.

I turned back to my files and frowned. "It says here you're only fourteen." The boy pulled her into his arms. He looked to be about the same age.

We had arranged the removal of the women by their due dates, and I searched, looking for hers. "It says here you were only in the women's lab for about six weeks."

She nodded in agreement.

I looked further. "You've had two procedures so far." And then I smiled, they were just prepping treatments. There had been plans to impregnate her today. "They were prepping procedures only, just getting you ready for impregnation," I said excitedly. "I'm not sure, but I think you may not pregnant. I'd like to take a test to be certain if that's alright?" I asked.

The girl gasped in relief and started crying. The boy held her in his arms. "Thank you," he said. It was the first time I had heard him speak.

"No need to thank me, I just hope we got to her in time," I said pulling out a little syringe. "I just need a little blood, and I'll make this test my top priority. You can wait, or I can bring the results back to your room."

"We'll wait," the boy said.

I took the blood and hurried out of the room to the little lab we had set up to run bloodwork. "This test needs to be done now. It's very important," I said giving the order over and watched as they started to work on it immediately. "I want to know the results as soon as you have them."

I quickly went to my office, pulled up the girl's file, and double-checked. I hoped to god we had gotten to her in time.

The lab assistant came walking in with a smile. "We did the test twice just to be sure, but the results are the same. The girl is not pregnant."

I snatched the results from her and hugged her tightly. "Thank you!" I said and ran to the exam room where they were waiting. "I have wonderful news. You're not pregnant!"

They both gasped in relief. "Thank you so much," the girl said hugging me.

"Thank you for giving me some good news to report. I'll still need you to schedule a checkup, since you had some procedures done. I want to make sure that when and if you do ever decide to have children that you can, alright?"

She smiled at the boy. "Alright."

The pair left, and I tried my best to hang on to the high they had given me. I knew the other women would not be so lucky.

I spent the rest of the day seeing all the women we had rescued. Leo came in to help me, for which I was grateful. He might not have been a true certified physician, but he was highly skilled nonetheless.

"Would you ever consider completing your medical studies?" I asked him between patients. "You really would make an excellent doctor, Leo."

"I talked to Jack about that, actually," Leo said. "He's going to send me back to medical school. There's a great university and teaching hospital twenty minutes from here, so I'm going to go back and finish my degree. I was pretty close to finished when I dropped out. I'm going to become a family practitioner, so I can help out here," he smiled.

"And what about Claire? I rather got the impression you two were a couple now. Isn't she going to want her European villa and her million dollars?" I asked surprised.

"Claire has decided she wants to stay and be a teacher here at the base, to do something useful with her life. She's actually quite a brilliant woman; she just had a bad run of circumstances that'd put her on the street. I think this'll be good for us both, since our lives before all this weren't exactly what we'd want our kids to model theirs after."

"Kids?" I asked.

"Yeah, she wants to be one of the mothers to the babies who were brought in. I kind of like that idea myself. I always wanted a big family."

"Well, you'll certainly have that here," I laughed. I was so proud of Leo and Claire. They had come such a long way.

We continued our exams and found that according to the records, a few of the women had just been inseminated the day prior, so we were able to administer morning after pills to them to stop the pregnancies. For several of them, this would not have been their first pregnancies, and they were grateful not to have to go through it again against their will.

We had been able to procure all of the archived records chronicling every pregnancy, birth and in vitro procedure done at all the labs over the almost forty years they had been practicing their treachery. Jack's people researched the records of all the women and children we had saved and mapped out their genetic links, so we could be certain of their relationships to each other and avoid any inbreeding in the future. Fortunately, those who had already been paired were safe.

One of the most wonderful discoveries, though, was that our little Ethan was actually the biological brother of baby Eric and Derrick. Since his parents tended to produce such exceptionally gifted offspring, they had been used to provide fertilized eggs for use in the other labs for the in vitro procedures Dr. Camiball had mentioned. They had lost seventeen siblings to this horrid practice. Ethan was considered an anomaly, though, having not manifested the same abilities as Derrick, who had been such a successful case, but I was glad he hadn't. After having met Derrick, I was grateful that my new son had not shown his abilities. We were going to have our hands full with him and Eric as it was.

We were going to be busy for quite a few weeks to come, as the women who were already pregnant came due. I smiled as I looked out over the large nursery room, where several of the new mothers sat rocking their newborns, nursing and talking, while others sat around on the floor, playing with all the babies. It was good to see smiles on their faces instead of the terror we had witnessed. I looked over and realized Jack was by my side, little Rusty snuggled asleep against his chest in his carrier, as we watched through the nursery window.

"You know, I've been a lonely man for twenty-five years, Carlisle, an old hoss wandering the range, looking for a herd and a warm stable. I think I finally found it," Jack said smiling. "It's a good thing I own all the land around here for a hundred miles. I think we're going to have to build on."

"I'd say so. So, what's the plan, Jack? We know damn well we didn't get them all," I said solemnly. "Evil like that is hard to kill."

"I know, and we'll be watching closely for the dirty cockroaches to resurface so we can swat 'em, but we've got to move on with what we have right now. First things first, you know? And the first thing that needs to happen is a couple of weddings. I've waited twenty-five years to marry Elizabeth, and I'm not waiting any longer. I asked her, and she said it was about damn time, then she said yes," Jack laughed. "Our boy also needs to get his rope tied to that hitchin' post as well. I know the womenfolk have been talking wedding business since Edward proposed. What do you say we go see if they've got it figured out yet?"

"You do know we're walking into scary territory, right?" I asked Jack.

"After what I've seen you do these past few weeks, Carlisle, I have no doubt that you can handle it."

Bella

I couldn't stop smiling, as I watched the little smirk on Edward's beautiful sleeping face. His mother, Elizabeth, was watching the baby for us tonight, so we could have some alone time. After watching Edward almost die right before my eyes, I couldn't bear to let him out of my sight. I knew we were supposed to wait a couple more weeks before we made love again, but I just couldn't wait, I had to reconnect with him. We made love gently, him worshipping every inch of me, including my new super-sized breasts. Unfortunately, I had to stop and pump a bottle in the middle of everything, because I began spraying him when my milk let down after he began attacking my nipples. It was hysterical, but I actually think my fiancé liked breastmilk now.

Edward stretched and yawned, his beautiful green eyes finding mine. "Good morning, Love. How are you feeling this morning?" he asked, as he pulled me into his arms.

"Wonderful, I haven't slept that good in weeks," I said and kissed his chest. We were quiet for a moment, but then I asked, "Is it finally over for real?" I asked. "Can we go home now?"

"Yes, Love, it's over. We can go home whenever we want, but I'd like to stick around just a little while longer. Jack asked Elizabeth to marry him, and they're having a small wedding here in a few days. I'd like to be here for it. It'd be nice to see my parents actually married, even if it did take them twenty-five years to get it done."

"Do you think they'd mind having a double wedding?" I asked.

"You don't want a big wedding with all the bells and whistles, matching cocktail napkins and the like?" Edward asked me, and I just laughed and shook my head.

"I don't care about all that stuff, Edward. I never did. All I want is to be your wife. That's all I've ever wanted," I told him, and he pulled my face to his, pressing his lips to mine.

"That's all I've ever wanted, too. From the first time I saw you at that bus stop for the music camp, looking like the oddest-looking little boy I had ever seen, something inside me knew even then that I wanted you, and I'll want you forever, Bella," he said, kissing me deeply, as his hands began to wander. Unfortunately, the minute his hands found my nipples, the faucets turned back on.

"I think I need to go find a baby to nurse," I said laughing at him, as he licked his fingers.

"We definitely need to do this baby thing one more time, Love, this stuff is awesome."

"Well, considering we forgot protection last night, there's a chance you could get your wish. However, I don't think that'll be a problem with me nursing." Little did I know how wrong I would be, and that we had just conceived our third set of twins.

We made our way into the living room to find our family sitting around, everyone with a baby and a bottle, including both Masen and Elizabeth. Ellie was just waking up in a bouncy seat and was starting to fuss, so I picked her up and latched her on, as I sat down next to Edward, who was also handed a baby and a bottle. With as many babies as there were to tend to, it was all hands on deck for feedings.

"So, when is the big day?" Esme asked Elizabeth, as they continued their conversation.

"Day after tomorrow. Garrett is actually an ordained minister and is going to marry us right here. We would've done it today, but the kids all want a wedding cake, and the girls all insist I must have a pretty dress and flowers, so that's going to take a couple of days," Elizabeth said blushing. "It'll take that long for the package I ordered from Amazon to arrive anyway. I have a few things coming for our wedding night," she almost whispered, and Esme burst out laughing at the blush that painted Jack's face.

"Well, I hope you ordered the things I recommended," Esme said, and Carlisle was suddenly looking at her with pink cheeks and a gapping mouth.

"Most definitely. In fact, I ordered two sets," Elizabeth said and glanced at me. "I'm not the only soon-to-be bride in the room."

"Speaking of that," my flushed, embarrassed fiancé interrupted, "Do you think Garrett would mind performing dual duty? Just about everyone we'd want at our wedding is here, except for my friends, Emmett and Jasper, their wives, and Bella's parents. I'm certain they'd want to come."

"Don't forget Uncle Jake and Uncle Seth!" Masen piped up.

"Of course," Jack said happily, and little Rusty smiled up at him, squealing and kicking his feet. "You ladies call the bakery and get a bigger cake ordered and a pretty dress for Bella acquired, and I'll make the arrangements to get everybody here. We're gonna have us one huge weddin' shindig!"

And that was exactly what we did. Two days later, as we stood before our friends and family, Edward slipped my wedding band on my finger, as did Jack with Elizabeth's, and after a few traditional words, we were finally married.

I was getting hugs and kisses from everyone, when I turned to the last person I ever thought I would see again.

"You look beautiful, Bella," Mr. Harper said, as he hugged me and kissed my cheek.

"I thought you…" I started to say, when Jack came up and wrapped his arm around his new brother-in-law.

"Edmund here is a free man," Jack smiled at his brother-in-law and best friend. "Once the judge heard the whole story and about what all had been going on, met Elizabeth and saw that she was alive and well, and saw some of the footage of the tapes we'd made while the guys were in EDEN, Edmund was immediately released."

Edward came up then and took a long look at his uncle, before the men wrapped their arms around each other, both trying to apologize at the same time.

"There's nothing to be sorry for, boy," Edmund said. "You were everything to your mother and to me. I'd do it all over again. You're my family, and I've always loved you. You were the son of my little sister and my best friend, whom I loved dearly and would do anything to protect," he said looking at Jack.

"Thank you, Uncle Edmund, for everything," Edward said, taking him by the arm to meet his great nieces and nephews.

Charlie and I danced a father-daughter dance, both of us trying not to trip the other and laughing through the whole thing.

"He still makes you happy, doesn't' he?" Charlie said, and I nodded.

"Yes, he does, Dad. Thank you for letting me go to music camp. I learned to play the clarinet, which was valuable, but I think I brought home something much more wonderful than mad skills on a new instrument," I smiled, as I watched my new husband dancing with his mother, Esme.

"I'd have to agree with you there. He's a good man, Bella. I'm proud to call him my son-in-law." Coming from Charlie, that was high praise indeed.

I danced with everyone who didn't value their toes, was called Herman by Emmett, who promised that the boxer collection he had given Edward as a wedding gift was personally selected by him, and ate way too much cake. I was craving it for some reason. Alice and Jasper wished us the best, and I hugged Alice over her much-rounded abdomen. She and Emmett's wife, Rosalie, were both pregnant with their third babies and were due just weeks apart. I watched in amusement as Jake and Seth both made the rounds, talking to the women. By the end of the evening, both of them had a girl on their arm and were looking very cozy. I couldn't help but wonder if something was brewing for them and hoped they both found happiness.

As much as I loved all these people, my new extended family, I was ready to go home. I wanted my kids to grow up normal, or at least as normal as was possible given their genetics.

We stayed at the party until all our out-of-town guests headed for the airstrip to be flown back home, and then Edward and I turned the kids over to Carlisle and Esme, before we headed to our room to enjoy our wedding night. I was dying to break out the package Elizabeth had gotten me. The little nightie was going to blow Edward's mind, and I was sure he was going to enjoy the other goodies as well.

I came out of the bathroom to find Edward lounging on the bed, a serious look on his face. However, when he saw me, it changed to one of pure lust.

"You look absolutely edible, Mrs. Cullen. How did I get so lucky to marry someone so amazing?" he said, as he ran his hands over the midnight blue silk and lace of my gown, wisely choosing not to touch my nipples just yet.

"I was just asking myself that same question," I replied, as I straddled him on the bed and leaned over to capture his lips in a searing kiss. I felt his hands come under the edge of my gown, and he lifted it over my head in one smooth movement, leaving me bare. His hands were hot on my body, as he caressed me tenderly. He worked me gently until I was almost screaming before guiding me onto him, joining us in one smooth move.

"You look so beautiful there, Bella. I hope we can spend the next seventy-five years doing this, you loving me, being my heart," he whispered, as he moved inside me.

"Do you think we'll still be doing this at almost a hundred years old?" I asked, and he grinned.

"I can't think of anything else I'd rather be doing at almost a hundred years old, can you?" he asked with a cheeky wink, as he sped up his thrusts, his hands braving my breasts now.

"As long as it's with you? No, I can't," I breathed and came apart in his arms.

It was true. As long as whatever I was doing was with Edward, I knew it would be worthwhile.
