Chapter Fifty One: Where I Belong
University of Washington Medical Center – 2:05AM
Tamera found Teddy in the cafeteria with a coffee in his hands and a frown on his face. She was drained Gina cried herself to sleep in Tamera's arms. Gina revisited everything in her life that happened and she repeatedly asked why her life wasn't perfect like Tam's. Tam walked over to Ted and sat in front of him. This was her perfect life she looked into the eyes of her best friend, her lover, and husband and saw the tears and anger in them. They knew each other so well. She knew he thought he knew what she was going to say and do. Plans needed to be made they couldn't stay together lives would be at risk. She personally hated the conversation they were about to have.
"A penny for your thoughts Mr. Grey," she murmured as she held her chin in her hand. He sighed and shook his head.
"You don't need to know what I'm thinking Tam … if you're here to tell me you want a divorce just tell me. Don't play with me and don't think we can be friends if that's the road you choose. I understand if you feel we need to go that route but I need all of you I won't settle for less than that." Tamera frowned, the word divorce really hit a sour note in her stomach … hard, and she really didn't hear what he had to say after the word was spoken. She got up abruptly, searched for the nearest trash can, and hurled …. Twice.
"Huh," she murmured as she wiped her mouth. Teddy was beside her holding napkins and wearing his concerned face.
"It's been a very stressful day Teddy let's not throw around heavy words like divorce okay," she muttered. "Let's just sit back down." Teddy did as she asked but wasn't done with his conversation.
"But that's what you're after … you want a div- to leave me again," he said bluntly.
"No, it's not what I want Teddy, it's what that psychopath bitch wants get your facts straight. Gina wants us to be over because she's scared and honestly I am too," Tam commented. "Can I have the rest of your coffee?" He handed her his cup.
"Ugh, why do you use so much sugar?" Tam gagged as she handed him back the cup.
"Like I want it now Tam, not after you just vomited," Ted laughed a little. "Look what are we doing here or more appropriately what are we going to do?" Just as Tamera was about to speak their parents came in the room. Isaac wrapped his arms around his daughter and held her. Teddy went into a very numb state … he was so tired and he felt as if he had no control. So he sat there almost as if in an outer body experience.
"How you doing baby?"
"As good as could be expected," Tam muttered. "How are you?"
"Stressed I've been busy trying to do some damage control. I've contacted the lawyers so they can figure the best and fastest way to end this," Isaac motioned between Ted and Tam. "I've added more security Christian is doing the same. Your mother is readying her townhouse in New York and we are getting you a flight in morning. I think we have everything covered." Tam stepped from her father and frowned. Ted didn't even bother to look up at Isaac but Tam looked down at him curiously. She didn't like to see Ted so … deflated. She'd rather he be angry than like this.
"Shouldn't you have talked to me before you did anything?" Tam snapped quietly.
"We figured you would want to protect our family … life is about sacrifice baby. You have to do what's best for everyone," her mother explained and Tam nodded. She knew about sacrifice she felt like she had been thinking other and sacrificing all of her life.
"I agree," Tam said bluntly and crossed her arms. Her mother smoothed hands over Tam's shoulders.
"I'm glad you see it our way baby," Imani kissed her cheek.
"I agree that security should be increased. I think your townhouse will be the perfect place for Gina to go and get away from this mess with security of course. I think all of our family should alerted of the threat …"
"All good ideas baby girl, you two could make the stay in New York like a little slumber party," Isaac said and Tam snorted.
"What am I like twelve or something? I'm not going to New York," she muttered and sat down beside Teddy. He looked at her shocked. Christian smirked a little bit he'd told Isaac he didn't think they were going to separate but now wasn't the time so say I told you so.
"But, the woman said and look at what she's done Tamera …" Isaac went into his rant and Tamera put her hand up.
"At first Daddy I was right there with you. I was wondering how I was going to be able to say goodbye to Teddy again. I remembered how it felt to leave him before and I will not put Teddy or myself through that again just because someone doesn't like us together. I'm sorry the bitch will just have to get over it!" Tam snapped. She didn't know where this rage was coming from but she was tired of playing games. She deserved to be happy and for Gina to be right about her life being perfect.
"Tamera there are lives at stake!" Her mother gasped. "I never knew you to be so selfish!"
"I'm not being selfish momma. I'm staying where I belong," Tam said firmly and she placed her hand over Teddy's and he intertwined their fingers. He didn't expect her to fight for their marriage he figured he would sacrifice him like he wasn't important.
"Very well." Isaac was actually a little impress that his daughter was so passionate about her husband but concerned for other reasons. "I'm not going to lie Tamera I am scared for you baby but I will do whatever it takes to keep you safe." Isaac's phone rang and he answered moved away from the crowd for some privacy.
Ana, Imani, and Christian sat down with the young couple.
"Are you sure about this baby?" Imani asked again and Tamera rolled her eyes.
"Yeah, I feel we have enough resources to be safe. I will return to working at home under the careful eye of Taylor and his men if that makes everyone sleep easier. I'm just tired of accommodating everyone and being unhappy."
"Like you did for me," Ana clarified.
"Yes," Tam said bluntly.
"I think it's a smart choice Tamera. It's good to show a united front," Christian said contented by his daughter-in-law decision. "Now, I'm going to try to get your father not to freak out. Excuse me." Ana followed Christian.
"I'm going to check on Jerry, I'll keep you posted," Imani said before kissing her daughter's head. Tam and Ted were alone again.
"Tam, you aren't just staying to keep me happy are you?"
"No, I'm staying to keep me happy … you happy is just a bonus. I will be honest I was thinking about giving the psycho chick what she wanted but then hearing the word divorce … I never want to be separated from you Teddy legally or otherwise." She went to kiss him but he moved.
"You vomited," he cringed and she pouted. "Oh hell!" He kissed her anyway. It wasn't the best tasting kiss but it gave him an amazing feeling. "I've never felt more connected to you wife," he whispered with their heads connected. Tam gave him a little smile.
"I'm glad. Now let's go check on Gina." She stood up and reached for his hand which he gave to her quickly.
