Chapter 53

Walking through the underground bunker with new-found determination, I ignored Mrs Jones calls after me, and the staring from the other agents as I defied the Head of MI6.

"Cub! Hey, wait up!"

I frowned at the sound of Wolf's voice, but continued to march on, refusing to let anyone talk me out of this.

"Hey, I said wait up!" He growled, jogging after me and grabbing my arm, forcing me to come to an abrupt stop, "And what the hell is this about you running off to SCORPIA?"

I glared at him, "It's none of your business, for a start. And it's something that has to be done".

"Yea. It does" He replied, "But not alone".

"Wolf, you are not talking me-" I suddenly stopped as I realised what he had said, and my eyes snapped up to his, "… What?"

"We're here to help you, you moron" He grumbled, and I frowned, "We?"

"Yea, we" Said a new voice from behind me, and I turned only to find Eagle leisurely walking up behind us, Snake trailing behind him, "You honestly didn't think we'd let you commit suicide alone, did you?"

"But… What?" I asked, still confused.

"After you left, Jones ran into us, blabbering on about you and SCORPIA and suicide and… Well… We decided that instead of trying to stop you, which would be quite impossible I should imagine, we decided to help you. If you can't beat them, join them, right?" Snake explained.

I stared at him, "… But you'll die".

"No. We won't" Wolf said, determination glittering in his eyes, "Because I sure as hell ain't gonna let a scorpion take me down. And I'm not going to stand by and let them take you guys either".

"Aww, Wolf has gone into Mother-Hen mode!" Eagle squealed, and the Unit's leader turned his most deadliest glare on him, "Just because I'll stop them from killing you, doesn't mean that I won't kill you myself".

The sharpshooter visibly gulped.

"Now so" Wolf continued, unfazed, "I believe we've got some planning to do, now don't we?"

It was exactly 9 hours and 43 minutes later that we struck.

Hidden behind the trees in front of SCORPIA's main compound, we surveyed the scene in front of us.

The building was large, very large, possibly used as a factory or hospital in the past, and there were guards evenly every 10 meters or so, with more placed both outside, and inside, the gates.

"K-Unit, ready?"

My earpiece buzzed with static at Wolf's voice.

"Ready".

"Ready".

"Ready".

He took a deep breath, "Alright then… Let's move out".

Silently walking up to the wall, I took out the guard with a simple pressure point on the neck.

Signalling the 'ok' to the others, they effectively took out two more guards, before we all headed to the gate.

Once again, I was sent ahead to silently knock out the nearest guards, as soldiers weren't trained to be agile.

And that little fact, of course, was something which we all knew.

And so, being the spy, I was automatically declared the most agile, despite having only just gotten back in the field.

Gesturing for them to go on ahead, I stepped into the guards room, finding an overweight man in uniform snoring loudly, a donut in one hand, and the rest of K-Unit visible on the camera screens in front of him.

He didn't seem to be waking up anytime soon.

But still, just in case he did, I placed the USB stick in the computer, setting the cameras on loop.

Soundlessly slipping into the building, I saw Eagle emerge from the first door on my right.

He gave me a small smile, and held up the explosives in his hand.

We were going to blow the building up.

We only had to place the bombs.

"Hey!"

I froze, all colour draining from my face.

Oh god.

They found me, they found me, how did they-

"Hello, long time no see!"

I abruptly stopped.

What the…

"I know right, but hey, this job doesn't exactly offer the best hours now, does it?"

They were… They were talking… Together… Not with me…

Letting out a breath I hadn't known I'd been holding, I continued to make my way down the hallway, past the room where the voices were coming from, and quickly moved around the corner.

And promptly smacked into someone.

Not-so-gracefully falling to the ground, I looked up, only to find a guard with a very confused expression.

He opened his mouth, probably to say something along the lines of "Are you lost?" or "This is no place for children"… But then he saw the gun. And the explosives. And the comms unit.

And put two and two together.

I barely managed to dodge the foot aiming for ribs.

Stumbling to my feet, I watched as he reached for his radio, and launched myself him.

Hitting him straight on the jaw, he stumbled back a few feet, before running full speed towards me once more, the radio, thankfully, discarded for the moment.

His next blow, however, hit me solidly on the ribs.

Ducking under his wild swing, I managed to send a kick to the side of his knee, and he toppled with a howl.

Scrambling for my gun, which I had dropped during the fight, I found myself thrown to the floor as he somehow tackled me.

Pinning me under his heavy weight, he effectively trapped both arms with one hand, while the other aimed for my face.

His eyes were bulging with fury, and I could smell cigarettes on his breath as he panted.

And then his fist made contact.

Punching me again, I tasted blood.

Come on, Alex, think.

Find a way to get up.

He landed another, stronger blow, and I heard a sickening crack as my nose broke.

Pain ripples throughout my head.

Come on, Alex, focus.

Another hit, another punch, and I could feel the blackness creeping in.

Legs.

I froze, the thought coming suddenly to me, before jumping into action.

Going abruptly slack, the guard paused for a minute.

But I used that minute to my advantage.

Abruptly surging up, I kicked with my legs and used all my strength to throw him forwards and over my head.

Lunging for the gun, I spun around just in time to see him dive at me again, and without even thinking or pausing for breath, I pulled the trigger.

*BANG*

"You alright?"

I didn't jump at the voice, and remained staring down at the body below me, a neat hole in between his eyes, as Wolf slowly walked towards me.

"… Yea" I finally said, "… Yea, I'm alright".

He nodded, "Good… Now come on, it's time to go".
