Chapter 39
"HELP! SOMEBODY HELP ME!" Abby screams panicked.
From different sides nurses came running to the Texan. They run inside and into the bathroom where Olivia is lying still unconscious. One of the nurses looks for a pulse and finds it but it's not normal. A few others are running inside the room with a stretcher and with three of them they lay the Detective on it on the count of three. A nurse turns to Abby while they are wheeling Olivia away and orders are screamed around.
"What happened?" The nurse asks.
"I don't know. All I know is that she went inside to take a pregnancy test and suddenly I hear something falling on the floor I ran to the door and when I opened it I saw Liv lying on the floor unconsciously I immediately ran to the hallway and screamed for help. What's wrong with her?" Abby asks worried.
"Well besides the fact that she is unconscious I can't say anything for sure. We have to wait till they examined her." The nurse answers.
"I have to call Alex and Casey. Alex is gonna kill me." Abby says.
Looking around and searching for the test Abby sees it lying in the sink in the bathroom. She slowly walks inside and picks it up and looks at it. The moment she sees the result she gasps and clasps a hand over her mouth, all the color is drawn out of her face.
"Oh God, oh no." Abby whispers.
"Miss, are you alright?" The nurse asks walking towards the ADA.
Suddenly Abby snaps out of it and immediately she gets to her senses.
"You better go tell the prof. or Dr that's examines her that she is pregnant. And nobody says a word against her wife. NOT ONE WORD. Do I make myself clear? She will hear it from one of us not from you guys." Abby says sternly.
"Yes Ma'am. I'll go tell them. I'll be right back." The nurse says and walks away.
Abby takes a deep breath and pulls out her cellphone from the back pocket of her jeans. Deciding to call Casey instead of Alex. Hoping that the redhead can stay calm and get them back safe to the center. She speed dials Casey's number and after 3 rings Casey picks up after she looked at the id caller.
"Hey Abby." Casey says happily.
"Hi Casey. Is Alex with you?" Abby asks nervous.
"Well she is somewhere in this store, she's looking for a book for Liv. Why?" Casey asks.
"The both of you need to come back to the clinic immediately. Liv is not well, I don't know what's wrong yet." Abby answers.
"Where is she now? What happened?" Casey asks worried.
"They took her away to check her. She was in the bathroom when I heard something falling on the floor, I ran to the bathroom and found Liv on the floor unconscious. I was inside her room when it happened. When you two are back we need to talk with Alex as soon as possible, Casey. There is something she need to know." Abby answers.
"We'll be back in 15 minutes. You can tell me then what she needs to know. See you soon, Abby." Casey says.
"See ya soon. And take care of Alex and yourself. Keep her calm I don't want something happening to either of you. Olivia will kill me if Alex hasn't done it for her." Abby says.
"I'll try to keep her calm. It's a good thing we're with the car I rented so I'll drive. Bye Abby." Casey says.
"Bye Casey." Abby says and ends the call.
About 20 minutes after Olivia was taken away out of her room Angie came into Olivia's room. They'd paged her up and she left the hotel and went straight to center and asked what happened. After that she'd gone to Olivia's room. Looking around Angie doesn't see Alex.
"Where is Alex?" Angie asks.
"She and Casey went out for two hours. To do something nice together. I expect them to be back any minute now. How is Olivia doing?" Abbie asks worried.
"If Alex will be here soon I think we should wait till she is here." Angie answers.
"Ok. But you should now that Alex doesn't know that Olivia is pregnant. I saw the test after Olivia was taken away. She asked me to get a test because she thought that the test from this center was not right. She wanted to wait to tell Alex until she was sure if she would be pregnant or not." Abby says softly.
Angie grimaces slightly at Abby's words but the ADA saw it.
"What's wrong Angie? You better tell me it because I don't want Alex to hear it from anyone else." Abby asks.
"I don't know if it was before or because she felt but Olivia had a miscarriage. How wrong this may sound that's not what is wrong with her. Her skull was more vulnerable than normal because of the brain surgeries she had. She must have hit her head on the floor or at something else because she had a stroke, an epidural hematoma to be exact. That's what's wrong. She is in surgery now. Her luck is that she was already in a hospital. But there is no way to tell what the damage will be at this moment. I'm sorry that I don't have better or more news." Angie answers softly.
Abby shakes her head in defeat, silently she sent up a quick prayer for Olivia to make it.
"How the hell am I gonna tell Alex all of this?" Abby asks softly with tears in her eyes.
"How the hell are you gonna tell me what, Abby? Where is Liv? What's wrong with her?" Alex asks panicked as she walks into the room.
Abby turns around cursing on the inside that Alex had heard her.
"I think you should sit down Alex. I will tell you everything but it's better if you sit down." Abby answers softly.
Alex looks at Angie with fear clearly in her eyes.
"Detective Benson is alive Alex, but I think that Ms. Carmichael is right and that you should sit down to hear everything." Angie says softly.
Alex shakes as she walks to a chair and sits down. Casey quickly pulls a chair next to blonde and sits down too. She has a feeling she needs to sit down for this and be there for Alex. The words of what Abby had said to her through the phone. Abby sits down on the edge of the table close to Alex and Casey. Angie closes the door before she walks to the other women. And stands next to Abby. Abby takes a deep breath trying to find the words to say what she needs to say and with that crushing down Alex's world. As soon as she looks in the stormy blue eyes of her friend Abby's heart breaks.
"How bad is it, Abby?" Alex whispers.
"It's to soon to tell. I'll start at the beginning and give ya the short version first. I want ya to know that I ain't kept this from ya nor did Liv. She wanted to be sure first. Liv called when I was on my way here, I was already close. She asked me if I could get a pregnancy test for her and then needed to hang up because she got sick again. I got the test for her. We talked for a bit and then she went into the bathroom to take it. The test was positive..." Abby answers.
As soon as Abby tells Alex that the test is positive the blonde ADA gets sick and runs to the bathroom making it just in time before she vomits. Abby looks at Casey ands sees that the younger woman is sitting shocked in her chair. She gives a short nod at Angie in Casey's direction before she walks to bathroom to take care of Alex. Abby herself is still shocked too but the brunette had some time to recover a bit from the shock. And she knows she has to put her own feelings aside and be there for Alex now. The two ADA's stayed in the bathroom for 10 minutes before Alex stopped throwing up and didn't feel so sick anymore. Abby helps Alex on her feet and gives her a wet towel to clean herself up. Alex brushes her teeth and then the two women walk back inside the room. Casey is still sitting in the chair but looks better than she did when Abby left her to go to Alex. Angie had left to give them some privacy but had promised Casey that she would come to them if she knew more. Alex takes a seat in the chair next to Casey again.
"Do you need a moment Alex or do you want to continue?" Abby asks softly.
"I want to know where Liv is and what wrong with her." Alex answers.
"Ok I go on then. There is no easy way to tell this and I can't make it easier for ya, I'm sorry. Liv got a stroke, a epidural hematoma. She fell on the floor and hit her head. She is in surgery now. Alex, Liv ain't... she ain't pregnant anymore. She got a miscarriage. They don't know if she got the miscarriage after or before she fell. After she went into the bathroom it was silent for a few minutes until I heard a strange noise like someone or something fell on the floor I ran to the bathroom and when I opened the door Liv was lying on the floor unconscious. I ran to the hallway and screamed for help immediately. Right before the two of you came back Angie came here and at first she didn't want to tell what's wrong with Liv. But I told her that I didn't want you to hear from someone else what happened or what was wrong so only after that she told me that Liv had a stroke and a miscarriage. I'm so sorry Alex." Abby says.
For a few minutes Alex just starred in front of her. The blonde had a hard time getting her head around everything Abby just told her. When she had left with Casey her wife was alright. Yes Olivia was sick a lot of times but alright. Now her world's broken down and Olivia was fighting for her life again. She was alone when she found out that she was pregnant and maybe had the miscarriage before she had fallen on the floor and lost consciousness. She didn't want to leave in the first place but Olivia insisted she'd go away for a few hours with Casey. But she knows that Olivia would have told her she had taken the test and that she was pregnant when she came back. Still besides that she's worried as hell right now Alex knows that Olivia wanted to be sure before she would tell her it. Getting herself together a bit Alex's looks at Abby and sees the guilt that the brunette feels. Yes she wants to be angry with Abby but she knows that Olivia wouldn't let the ADA come inside the bathroom with her. She wants to blame Abby for what happened in the bathroom and for Olivia fall on the floor but somehow she can't. Besides the brunette already feels guilty as hell and yelling or screaming at the Texan won't make Olivia better. Won't erase the pain and the fear she feels. What she wants to know is how the hell it is possible that the test Olivia got before was false. Alex is more angry at Prof. Taymar for missing that her Detective was pregnant and getting treatments and that they are more likely the reason for her wife's miscarriage. After 10 minutes of silence in the room Alex speaks up.
"Casey can you find out if Prof. Taymar is here and go get him if he's available?" Alex asks.
Casey looks at Alex and sees the anger building up inside the blonde ADA. She then looks briefly at Abby who nods.
"Ok, I'll go and see if he's here and available." Casey answers.
Casey gets up and leaves the room. When she is gone Alex motions at Abby to come and sit next to her. Hesitatingly Abby stands up and sits down next to Alex.
"Abs, I don't want talk about it now I have other things to focus on and to worry about, but I want you to know that I don't blame you for what happened in the bathroom. It was not your fault. And Olivia would've never let you go inside with her. I know you feel guilty about what happened and blame yourself for it already. I'm angry and do blame Prof. Taymar though. And I rather go up against him and give him a piece of my mind." Alex says softly.
Abby looks at Alex and sees the anger in her eyes but she also sees that the blonde attorney is telling her the truth.
"You're right I do blame myself for what happened. And I feel guilty but you also are right that now is not time nor the place to talk about that. Just want you to know that it means a lot to me knowing that you don't blame me." Abby answers.
Both women embrace each other into a big hug. Sharing their misery and pain they both feel at this moment. When Casey returns both women had collected themselves together for the best they could at the moment. Casey told them that Prof. Taymar wasn't available at that exact moment but that he would be there as soon as he could. He was already performing a surgery on an other patient when Olivia was brought to the OR so an other Prof. was performing the surgery on the Detective. By the time Prof. Taymar got to Olivia's room Alex was herself again for as far as that was possible. ADA Alexandra Benson-Cabot was back again and is ready to strike!
A/N I'm sorry for the emotional roller coaster this chapter was but I couldn't let Olivia stay pregnant. That would be so wrong to do, for me. That doesn't mean that a miscarriage is easy to deal with quite the opposite in my opinion. But I had to choose one of 2 bad situations and after thinking long about it I decided that I think for Olivia this one is less worse. It was and is certainly not my intention to offend or hurt anyone. And I apologize if I did do that.
