Taylor was up early getting ready for placement. She wasn't feeling particularly great though and had woken up feeling a little bit sick.
It was when she was sat down eating her breakfast that a horrible thought popped into her head.
She hadn't had a period in a couple of months and now she was feeling sick. Her taste buds had also been really weird lately too.
Taylor began to feel even sicker at the thought that she may be pregnant. She was in her first year of University, she could not be pregnant.
Taylor convinced herself that she was just being silly, and that she didn't need to do a test. Deep down though, she wasn't so sure.
All morning, Taylor wasn't herself.
When asked if she was okay, Taylor explained that she wasn't feeling very well and they sent her home.
As much as she didn't want to, Taylor knew she needed to take a pregnancy test. Hopefully it would be negative and she could stop worrying about it.
Taylor drove to Tesco suddenly realising the fact that she actually had to buy the pregnancy test. She felt way too embarrassed for people to know about the fact she was buying the test.
Even though she didn't need any food, as she'd done a food shop at the weekend she went and got a basket full of food so that she could hide the test underneath.
She then headed to the aisle where the pregnancy tests were, relieved to see the aisle was empty.
Taylor quickly went and grabbed a test and put it at the bottom of her basket before rushing to the self-service tills.
She paid as quickly as she could and got out of the shop.
By the time Taylor got back to her car, she was shaking so much. She was so scared and this was all becoming too much for her.
Taylor went straight back to her flat and was annoyed when one of her flatmates was coming out of her room just as Taylor walked through the door. She wasn't in a mood to speak with anyone at the moment, and just wanted to head straight to her room.
Luckily Taylor managed to get away quite quickly when she told her flat mate she'd come home early because she wasn't feeling very well.
Taylor went to her room and read the instructions on the box. She knew what she needed to do but she was just trying to delay time.
Just as Taylor was bringing herself to do the test, she had a sudden yearning for her Mum and realised she wanted her to be there when she did the test.
She knew Rachel was going to be angry if she was pregnant, and that she was going to have so many questions even if she wasn't but right now she didn't care. She just wanted her Mum.
Taylor packed a bag of stuff as she thought she would probably end up sleeping at home tonight.
She then left and went to her car, but then realised her Mum would be at work.
Taylor decided to just go to Waterloo Road, as Eddie was away on a course for a couple of days anyway so there would be no risk of him finding out.
Taylor didn't really feel like she should be driving, her mind was all over the place but she did anyway.
Taylor's heart was racing so much when she parked up in the car park at Waterloo Road.
She sat in her car for a few minutes before walking in.
She went to Reception. The receptionist knew Taylor so let her sign in and go up to her Mum's office.
Taylor was getting more and more worried about telling Rachel now, but she was here now and she really did want her Mum.
She took a deep breath before knocking on the door to Rachel's office.
"What?" Rachel shouted
That wasn't what Taylor wanted to hear. Her Mum was clearly already in a bad mood, and now Taylor was going to make it 100 times worse.
Taylor slowly opened the door and walked in.
"Sorry, is this a bad time?"
"Sorry love, just a bit of a bad day" Rachel said soften "anyway what are you doing here? I thought you were meant to be on placement today"
This was all it too for Taylor to burst into tears.
"Oh sweetheart, come and sit down"
Taylor went and sat on the sofa and Rachel went and closed her office door before sitting next to Taylor.
Taylor was trying to stop crying, but now that she'd started she couldn't seem to stop.
"What's wrong darling?"
"You're going to hate me so much when I tell you"
"Of course I'm not, you know there is nothing you can do that would possibly make me hate you"
"I wouldn't be so sure"
"What is it you've done? Killed someone?" Rachel asked trying to lift the mood a bit
"No" Taylor said with a little smile
"Robbed a bank?"
"Got yourself pregnant?"
Taylor's face dropped when Rachel said this, as did Rachel's when she saw Taylor's reaction
"You're not pregnant are you?" Rachel asked in shock
"I don't know"
"So there's a possibility that you might be?" Rachel asked and Taylor nodded
Rachel was trying to stay calm.
"Yes"
Rachel knew now wasn't the time to be asking questions about who the father might be, despite this is what she was wondering.
"Do you know how rare it is to get pregnant when you're on the pill?"
"I haven't been taking the pill for a few months now" Taylor admitted
"Why not?"
"I ran out and I haven't got round to going to the Doctor's yet"
"So you've been sleeping around without using any contraception"
"I haven't been sleeping around" Taylor said sounding angry "and I have been using contraception"
"Sorry sweetheart, I shouldn't have accused you of sleeping around"
Rachel was far from happy about this situation, but she could also see how upset Taylor was and realised she needed to be there for her.
"So what makes you think you're pregnant?"
"My periods late and then I've been feeling really sick all day"
"And you haven't done a test yet?"
"No"
"Well let's do one then, because there's no point in worrying about it until we know for sure is there?"
"I've got a test"
"Do you want to take it here? Or do you want to go home and do it?"
"Can you come home with me now for a bit?"
"I'm afraid not love, I have a meeting in an hour"
"I'll do it here then"
"Okay, I'll take you to the staff toilets. Hopefully they'll be empty because most teachers will be teaching"
Taylor grabbed her bag and walked to the toilets with Rachel.
She was still feeling petrified but was feeling a bit better because she had Rachel's support.
To both Taylor and Rachel's relief, there was no-one else in there.
"I don't want to do it Mum"
"Well you have to"
"What if it's positive?"
"Then we'll have to deal with it. Come on, just do the test and then we'll know"
Taylor reluctantly went into a cubicle and carried out the test.
She then came out with the test in her hand.
"I really hope no-one comes in. I don't want shove this in my bag when it's covered in my wee"
"Let's hope they don't"
Those three minutes felt like the longest ever.
"Okay you can look now"
"I can't you do it" Taylor said passing the test to her Mum
Rachel paused for a moment, before turning over the test. Relief flooding through her body.
"It's not positive darling" Rachel exclaimed engulfing Taylor in a massive hug
"Are you lying to me?"
"Of course I'm not"
Tears of relief were pouring out of Taylor's eyes. Even Rachel was crying a bit too.
"I was convinced I was pregnant" Taylor cried
"So was I to be honest love, you have no idea the thoughts that were going through my head"
Rachel let Taylor have a good old cry.
"Come on, let's get your face cleaned up then we're going to have a proper chat" Rachel said going to grab some toilet roll
Rachel helped Taylor get sorted and then they went up to Rachel's office.
"So are you going to tell me who you've been having sex with? Was it just a one off"
Taylor sighed, she knew her Mum would have a load of questions.
"I've had sex with Matt a few more times" Taylor admitted "but he's not with his girlfriend anymore"
"So are you and Matt in a relationship now?"
"No, not yet anyway. I think we will be at some point, I hope so anyway, but we decided it was best we waited a bit. He only broke up with his girlfriend a few weeks ago"
"So you're just sleeping together"
"It's not like that. We agreed to not have sex again until we were going out properly"
"So what happened?"
"Well whenever we go out, we just can't seem to help it. I really like him Mum"
"At least he hasn't got a girlfriend anymore, so you don't need to feel bad about it"
"I still do, I'm fed up with sleeping with guys when they're not my boyfriend"
"Well hopefully he will be soon"
"We are going on a date at the weekend, so hopefully after that"
"And how come you've kept this from me hmm?"
"I was going to tell you, but I just thought I'd see how it goes at the weekend first. I'm really nervous"
"You shouldn't be, it's not like you're going on a blind date or something. You already know him, so try looking forward to it"
"Yeah but I'm just worried things will be different because we'll be on a date, and not going out as just friends"
"I'm sure you'll have a lovely time, and afterwards you'll be wondering what you were so worried about. I was nervous the first time your Dad asked me out too"
"It feels like you and Dad have always been together now, it's weird to think that ten years ago you didn't even know each other"
"I know, and I feel so lucky that the both of you came into my life"
"Me too"
"I think it would be a good idea if you go back on the pill though, don't you?"
"Yes definitely, I'm going to make a Doctor's appointment straight away"
"Good"
"How come you were having such a bad day anyway?"
"Well your sister for starters"
"Ivy?"
"Yeah, I won't go into too much detail but she's been getting into a lot of trouble with her teachers recently, she's been really disruptive and even at home she's moody all the time and she keeps coming home late"
"That doesn't sound like Ivy"
"I know, I think she feels like she needs to fit in with her friends because they've all started to find their feet and aren't worried about being well-behaved anymore"
"I could always try talking to her?"
"I wouldn't worry darling, she'll only bite your head off like she does mine. Thank you though"
"Hopefully she'll realise for herself soon that she'd acting out of character"
"I really hope so. Anyway I've got a meeting to go to soon. Are you going home or back to uni?"
"Well I've got cheer later, but could I pop home and see everyone for a bit"
"Yeah of course you can, you know you don't need to ask. We're having meatballs for tea"
"Yummy. Do you want me to pick the little ones up from school?"
"Yeah that would be lovely, Grandma was going to but if you ring and say you're going to instead. I shouldn't be home much after the end of school today anyway"
"Okay sounds good"
Taylor left Waterloo Road feeling so much happier than when she'd arrived.
She could have been feeling so different right now, her whole life could have been turned upside down. But she wasn't pregnant. She was so relieved.
