Gwen's POV
Wuncler was being interviewed in front of the lemonade stand. Jasmine was the only worker inside and looked absolutely exhausted. Well on the bright side business was booming and she was making lots of money. Although I'm sure most of it was going to Wuncler.
Huey tried once more to reason with her but she wouldn't hear it. Even Tom couldn't get her to stop. Granted that was mostly due to the fact that Wuncler told Jasmine her pony would die if she did but still. The longer we sat outside the more fire I saw Huey get in his eyes. He was gonna free her. No matter what it took, he'd fight for her freedom.
The day quickly came to an end and the fire never left Huey's eyes. He wasn't gonna give up on this. He hopped right on the computer and started typing away, no doubt looking for a way to free her. It made me wonder, was I a bad friend for not trying like he was. Sure she needed to make her own mistakes to truly learn but, perhaps I was being too passive. I mean I didn't try to stop her whatsoever.
At the same time why was Huey fighting so hard for her? Was she special to him? Would he do the same for me? I don't understand. Why, why does this bother me the way it does? Usually I can just brush it off when I'm different emotionally than someone else, but this is different. I really just, I just don't understand.
The next day seemed to come quicker than the last; I went outside once more today to see this ordeal unfold more. Huey wasn't insight as first till I heard the heavy footsteps of multiple people and there he was leading the group to the lemonade stand. He actually went to the trouble of rallying people to rescue jasmine. The people however were almost as passive as me and certainly useless to his cause.
Huey and Jasmine got into another fight although I couldn't hear what was exactly said over the singing of Huey's group. I couldn't help but lower my eyes, why do I feel almost saddened to see him try so hard for her. Am I sad I'm as useless as those he rallied? The sound of hooves hitting cement pulled me from my thoughts as a horse drawn carriage pulled onto the street with Wuncler riding.
Wuncler stood up in his carriage and started some B.S. speech saying he didn't know Jasmine's lemonade stand was using child labor. He proceeded to promote his bottled lemonade that was promised to be 'Cruelty Free'.
Jasmine, desperate to see the pony she worked so hard for tried pushing her way through the crowd. Wuncler stepped from his carriage and spoke to her, calling her an ungrateful brat who only wanted a handout. He then called off his 'Partnership' with her and proclaimed he was repossessing Sammy.
She whimpered over the loss of her horse and even tried begging Wuncler for a second chance but to no avail. Wuncler rode off and a brawl broke out over the bottled lemonade. Soon Huey grabbed a nearby trash bin and broke the glass on Jasmine's lemonade stand allowing people to grab the cups for themselves.
Before anyone knew what happened it suddenly got cold and dark. Looking up I saw flurries begin to fall, everyone calmed down almost instantly and went inside there warmer homes to escape the sudden winter weather. Jasmine and Huey stood in front of her, now on fire, stand.
Jasmine began shivering and Huey, without hesitation, handed her his scarf. As a cold breeze blew passed I realized I too was cold, and after giving one last look at the two I turned and walked in, the feeling that kept popping up during this whole ordeal returning once again.
