Away Mission To Terra Beta
Part 110 (Reach out and touch someone) PG
Admiral Maxwell Forest entered the officers mess and headed to get himself a cup of strong coffee. He had a feeling it was going to be a long day and night.
Well it looks like I am finally going to get a real mission. Erica Hernandez thought as she went into the officers mess. I wonder what mess the Enterprise has gotten into this time? The message to meet the Admiral here for a briefing said urgent.
Admiral Gardner moved to join Maxwell ForestHe had heard about the message from the Vulcans. It seemed that Enterprise had stepped into it again. He still felt that Jonathan Archer should be relieved that man had gotten into more trouble then any ten other captains.
Admiral Forest poured himself a dark roast coffee and picked up his meal. it was a simple one. One he could eat quickly so he could get back to work. He noted that Captain Hernandez took the hint and her meal was almost identical. A chicken sandwich salad a vegetable soup while his was tomato. Rear Admiral Gardner however opted for a full meal. He would regret that as he would likely not have time to finish it. If the news about the Romulans was true then Earth could soon be at war again. He sighed and wished he had a better staff. He knew Gardner was a good man but…. They really did not get along and he needed someone near he could trust. He considered what to do with care. He knew he would have to send Columbia with supplies. At least the Yorktown was coming out in two days it would leave a NX in the system.

Mortak went to the bedside of his eldest son. The warrior was bandaged and in traction. He has been damaged by Duras's and his men. Mortak wished he had that low down trag at his mercy. His son was alive but he was very wounded. His back had been broken and the Denoblian doctor had placed rods in it. Mortak almost had given his son the final mercy but he had been stopped by Dr. Phlox who had convinced them that his heir was strong and could heal fully.
"My son how are you today."
A groggy Warrior looked back at his father. "I live. I will heal father if only so I may hunt down Duras and his vile brood."
Mortak smile was feral his son's spirit had not been broken.
"We shall hunt that Targ together."
"Aye sir. We shall. The Doctor says in a week or so I can begin to train again."
Mortak knew that it would not be so simple but he did not wish to discourage Merrik he was alive and wanted to fight. It mattered little that it would take him time to be whole. Even with the help of the locals and their allies he would not have a battle worthy ship for many months.

"Admiral what is the mission?" Captain Hernandez asked.
Forest sipped his coffee and looked at the Colombia's Captain. He smiled before saying. "It seems Enterprise has run into some old friends. The Columbia will be taking supplies and a diplomatic team to meet them. It is a first contact situation."
"A new race of people sir?" Admiral Gardner asked.
"In
a manner of speaking. This mission is of course classified. "
Both officers were stunned at this. Neither had any idea of the severity of the situation and Forest had no intention of explaining it until he himself had more information.
"Enterprise has meet up with contingents of the Vulcan High Command and the Adorian Imperial Fleet this mission will be a joint one. All three of our worlds appear to have an interest in the find and we even will have a member of the Klingon Empire there. To say this is delicate is an understatement. I have been asked to apprise the Federation of the find. However we have decided it would be wisest to get first hand information from Enterprise first."
"So we are once more waiting on Archer?" Gardner asked
"Yes we are. It is unfortunate but the Vulcans seem to believe that Enterprise sustained damage to her communications network. The information I currently have is sketchy and comes from the high command."
Both of his officers nodded understanding what was not said. All to often Vulcan did not give relevant data to Starfleet.
Damn Jon you better call soon or the Admirals will be pissed. Erica Hernandez thought. Well at least the Vulcans let us know you are alright my friend. But who would have thought they could be so ….helpful. I wonder why? What do they want or need from us? It is not like the Vulcans to just reach out and touch someone.
