Hershel hobbled in, swinging himself into the cell on a pair of crutches. Katie turned from the baby as he sat beside her on the cot.

"You should be resting." She chided, raising a brow.

"There are more important things to be doing right now." Hershel replied, smiling at the baby. "How are you?"

"Fussy and uncooperative." Katie muttered. Hershel glanced sideways at her.

"I was talking about you." He said with a smile. She flushed a little, embarrassed.

"Oh. Well, I'm fine, just kinda sore." She admitted.

"It seems to me you're always getting' hurt." He went on, "Pardon me for sayin' this, but it might be better for you if you didn't go out in the field anymore."

Katie blinked, surprised. Is he telling me what I think he is? she thought. Frustration bubbled up in her stomach.

"I am not useless. Or a liability. I just had some bad luck. We all did." She shot back, glancing down at his remaining leg.

"Now calm down, I'm not sayin' any of that." He began, but Katie wouldn't have it. Storming from the cell, she left the block entirely. Retracing her steps and remaining alert, Katie found her way back to the closet.

The door was wide open, allowing a small amount of light to shine inside. Katie kneeled closer, spotting with a grimace that there was a saw on the shelf, glinting with a dark red substance. It was tossed carelessly beneath paint cans and cleaning supplies, anchoring it in place. Katie cringed at the thought of it digging into the back of her head for who-knows-how-long. She could hear laughter echoing from down the hall. In a hurry she got up and found Glenn standing behind her.

"Ah!" she said out of impulse. He smirked and nodded towards the saw.

"You okay? That must've hurt."

"I'm fine. Where's Maggie?"

"She saw you take off and said to go look for you while she talked to Hershel." Glenn explained. "Sometimes he says too much, she said."

Katie shrugged, moving to shut the door to the closet. Glenn stopped her, and pulled the saw free. Placing it on a higher shelf, he shut the door and grinned.

"In case you need to hide there again." He said. Katie rolled her eyes, giving him a shove. They started off down the hallway, and Katie was suddenly strongly reminded of high school. She laughed.

"What?" Glenn asked.

"This just reminded me of high school." She replied shrugging. "Only people didn't try to eat us then."

"Girls like you and Maggie wouldn't have talked to me in high school."

"I would've!" Katie argued. This time it was Glenn's turn to roll his eyes.

"Oh sure, you say that now, but five years ago? I don't think so."

"I think my ravishing good looks are giving you the wrong idea." She said sarcastically. "I was that quiet, weird girl in the corner doodling on every paper she turned in. I went home, played video games and other boring stuff like that."

"Really? What was your favorite?" Glenn asked. "I really liked first person shooters."

"Of course you do. Me, I liked racing games. Fast cars, cool paint jobs. Yeah." She reveled in the memory before her smile faded. "Anything to get me away from home."

"Was it really that bad for you?" he asked, his grin slipping away as well. Katie touched her right shoulder, feeling the ropey scar the lay there.

"I could think of happier things, yeah."

She sighed, pulling her hand away. Glenn looked down, then back at her.

"The past doesn't really matter anymore. We have people who care about us now. That's what matters." he said, jerking his head back towards the cell block. "C'mon. Let's get out of here."

They walked together down the decrepit hall. Nikolai and Cesar were standing by the gate.
