Chapter 50

Soul and Black*Star walked over to a part of the DC shopping district after making a quick visit to the bank. Soul watched Black*Star as said ninja led him around. Black*Star was looking around for the shop and Soul knew he had found it when his expression changed. He followed his friend into the jewelry store and a small bell rung as the door to the store opened and closed.

"Ah! Mr. Star, have you finally received your last paycheck?" asked a young, black-haired man in dress clothes. Black*Star nodded and said man clasped his hands together in excitement. "I'll go and get the ring you reserved from the back."

The man went to the back and Black*Star and Soul waited for him to return. Said man returned after a couple minutes with a dark blue, velvet box and set it on the glass showcase.

"Here you go, Mr. Star. Please feel free to look it over for quality prior to paying," said the man. Black*Star nodded and opened up the case to look at it. Soul took a look over the ring and found it to be a modest gold ring with a floral design made up of what he assumed were pink diamonds and rubies. It was the perfect ring for Tsubaki in that it was both simple but beautiful.

"Looks good, man. Let's go ahead and pay," said Black*Star after shutting the case. He slipped it into his pocket and Soul watched him walk over to the cash register with the man to pay.

The two had left the store not long after and Soul could see Black*Star was visibly stressed. He was twitching, continuously scratching the back of his head, and kept patting the pocket the ring was in.

He's so serious that he can't relax, thought Soul. He sped up and threw his arm around Black*Star's shoulders, causing the blue-haired ninja to snap his head in his direction.

"Man can I see the stress all over you," said Soul, grinning.

"Well, what do you expect? Even a god like me gets stressed when I have to propose to my goddess," said Black*Star, grinning nervously.

"To think the great Black*Star could love someone so much that he can actually get nervous. You've come a long way from the conceded ninja I first became friends with," said Soul. Black*Star grinned at Soul after a moment and he put his hand on the pocket with the ring.

"Man, you don't understand how it felt when I met her. Everyone else was avoiding me when I was first looking for a weapon and she was the only one to come forward. I was so surprised that I couldn't even say hi right. I didn't even think she would stick around for long when she really got to know me but not only did she stick around but she looked really happy to be my partner. With Tsubaki by my side, I was able to get as strong as I have," said Black*Star, smiling to himself.

"Dude, I totally know how you feel. Looks like both of our girls changed our lives," said Soul while also smiling. The two continued to walk on and eventually arrived at the apartment.

"It's been awhile. What is taking Soul so long?" asked Maka, mostly to herself. Tsubaki began to fidget as she sat next to her friend with a frown. "Relax, Tsubaki. You should have more faith in your relationship with Black*Star."

"I know, I know…I just love him so much, I couldn't stand it if he actually left me," said Tsubaki, somberly. Maka frowned as she watched her friend and she had to admit, she knew how she felt. She wasn't sure she could continue with her life if Soul had left her.

"Don't worry, Tsubaki. Everything is going to be fine and you're going to laugh at how silly you've been," said Maka. Tsubaki bit her lip in nervousness but still attempted to relax herself. After a few minutes, Maka seemed to perk up and Tsubaki turned to her with a confused expression. "I sensed Soul and Black*Star's souls. They're just outside the apartment complex. They should be up in a few minutes."

The two waited until they heard the door to the apartment open.

"Maka, I'm home," said Soul from the doorway. He shut the door after Black*Star had entered behind him and the two made their way into the main room to find Tsubaki standing up with a worried expression.

"Black*Star…" said Tsubaki as she clutched a hand to her chest. Black*Star walked across the room to her and he pulled her into him for a tight hug, surprising her.

"Sorry, babe, I didn't mean to make you worry. I just had something to prepare for and it's not what Soul said you've been thinking," said Black*Star, calmly. After a moment, Tsubaki relaxed in his arms and snuggled into him as she calmed herself down. She was so happy that it wasn't what she had been thinking, though she knew Black*Star wasn't that kind of guy.

"What was it for, exactly? I know you wouldn't make Tsubaki this worried out of fear of me chopping you," said Maka, jokingly, causing Black*Star to grin.

"Please! A god like me isn't afraid of a pregnant lady," said Black*Star, causing a small vein to pop out of Maka's forehead. She picked up a nearby book clenched her teeth in annoyance as flamed erupted behind her.

"I'm sorry, care to repeat that?" said Maka, menacingly, as she tapped the book in her hand. Black*Star shrunk back and bit and shook his head, violently, causing her to calm down and mutter out a 'Thought so' to which Soul chuckled at.

"B-Black*Star, could you please tell me what the actual reason?" asked Tsubaki after pulling from Black*Star enough to look at him. Black*Star paused for a moment and his cheeks just barely burned before he pulled her off him.

"Well, it's a little…ah, I don't know the right word to use," said Black*Star, confusing Tsubaki. He sighed and rubbed the back of his head, nervously, before slipping his hand into his pocket containing the ring and pulling it out. Tsubaki watched him pull out the small dark blue box and he began to move down onto one knee. Tsubaki's eyes widened at what she was seeing and Maka had to suppress the gasp the left her mouth. Once Black*Star was on one knee, he opened the velvet box and held it towards Tsubaki. "I know this might seem a little out of nowhere but I've been meaning to get this for a while. I finally found the right ring and I worked to get the money for it. Now that I have it, though, I can finally ask you, Tsubaki, would you officially be my goddess?"

Tsubaki could see the bright smile on Black*Star's face as he asked and, albeit it was a bit of a strange way of asking, Tsubaki completely understood what he meant. She was frozen in place after being asked such a thing out of the blue and she couldn't even react, her mind was blank. Before she knew it, tears were streaming down her face and she only noticed after Black*Star's expression became worried. She moved a hand up to her face and felt the wetness on her cheeks. Black*Star got to his feet and brushed away the tears from cheeks, moving his face close to hers to look into her eyes.

"Well, Tsubaki? Will you do this Star a favor and help him shine?" asked Black*Star, causing Tsubaki giggle a bit as she wiped more tears from her eyes.

"T-That's so cheesy," said Tsubaki while still giggling a bit. After she had wiped her eyes, she looked back into Black*Star's eyes and smiled at him. "Yes, Black*Star."

Black*Star grinned at her and she lifted up her left hand so that he could slip the finger on her ring finger. After it was on, their eyes met again and the shared a deep kiss before being interrupted by excited squealing coming from the background. The two faced the direction of the squealing and found Maka who was unable to contain her excitement towards her best friend.

"I'm so happy for you two! You're finally engaged!" said Maka, excitedly. Black*Star intertwined fingers with Tsubaki and grinned, wildly.

"Hell yeah!" shouted Black*Star, happily, before bringing Tsubaki hand up to kiss its back, causing said girl to blush. Soul came over and threw an arm over Black*Star's neck.

"Congratz man, glad it went well, though damn were some of those lines cheesy," said Soul, teasingly. Black*Star grinned, sheepishly, and rubbed the bottom of his nose with his finger.

"Only Tsubaki could get me to act like that," said Black*Star.

"It looks like we're the same now, huh Tsub- Oof!" said Maka, suddenly, before clutching her stomach. Soul was at her side in a split second and looking over her.

"Maka, are you alright?" asked Soul, worriedly. Maka seemed to focus on her stomach for a moment with wide-eyes and then quickly grabbed Soul's hand before putting it on her stomach. Soul looked at her with a confused expression before feeling something. "Was that the baby?"

"What's going on, Maka?" asked Tsubaki, curiously. Maka looked over at her best friend with a bright smile.

"The baby is kicking!" said Maka, excitedly. Tsubaki's eyes widened and she immediately went over to Maka to put her hand on her stomach, just above Soul's, and felt a small kick in the palm of her hand.

"Oh my gosh! It feels so amazing! Does it feel strange?" asked Tsubaki, happily.

"A little but it feels more amazing than strange. This is the first time this has happened!" said Maka, her eyes practically shining from how happy she was. Tsubaki smiled at her friend and turned when she felt eyes on her. Black*Star was pouting a bit from feeling left out and Tsubaki smiled at his childishness before grabbing one of his hands and yanking him over. She placed a hand on Maka's belly and he smiled when he felt a kick.

"Wow…this makes me happy," said Black*Star, smiling.

"Not that surprising. You're feeling a new life's first movements," said Maka, happily. Black*Star grinned at her then looked back at her belly.

"Hey, little baby, if you can hear me, you should probably know that I'm gonna give you the honor of being your godfather. Make sure to say hi to me after you're out," said Black*Star in a very proud voice.

"Oi, what are you telling my daughter?" asked Soul, a bit annoyed. "Who even said we were gonna choose godparents."

"Oh, c'mon Soul, y'know I'm the perfect person to be their godfather. Godparents are supposed to guide their godchildren right? I'll do a great job in guiding her to be real tough," said Black*Star, grinning.

"Tsubaki, I want you to be the godmother but this idiot could never be the godfather," said Maka, bluntly, causing Tsubaki to giggle. Black*Star then began to whine to Maka and she rolled her eyes at him several times as he attempted to persuade her that having him as a godfather would be good. Let's face it, though, Black*Star could never be someone's godfather.

So? What did you guys think?

I tried to make the proposal a little funny since it is Black*Star but I also tried to show Black*Star's caring side because he always gets soft to Tsubaki.

I also thought I'd add a baby scene since it had been a bit since the last one.

Anyways, please Review to let me know what you guys thought and until next time...byeee :D
