The yelp and jump that greeted Aubrey when she put her hand on Stacie's shoulder would've been funnier if she hadn't been thinking about seeing Stacie the entire afternoon.

She smiled when Stacie turned, her face lit up brightly, and took the chair next to her. "You're jumpy."

"You just surprised me." Stacie chuckled, squeezing her hand briefly and shaking her head. "What are you doing here? You sounded unsure on the phone."

"I moved some things around." Aubrey shrugged. "Chloe had been nagging about coming to see her kids for a while."

Stacie laughed. "She can be pretty insistent."

The truth was, Aubrey wasn't really planning on coming. She had a lot of work and spending an hour at a children's dance recital really wasn't her idea of a good time. But then Stacie had called her and told her she'd be there and the whole thing suddenly got more appealing.

"Where's Beca?" Not that Aubrey actually cared where the little hobbit was, but it was rare to see Chloe without her these days.

"She went back to say hi to Chloe, she should be back in a bit." Stacie smiled softly at her and bit her lip thoughtfully before tilting her head. "I'm really glad you came."

Aubrey couldn't help smiling back at the brunette. "Me too."

The lights dimmed in the small auditorium and they both shuffled to face the front. The music was just starting when Beca appeared, jumping over Stacie and Aubrey clumsily before taking the seat next to Aubrey.

"You're here!" To her credit, Beca actually sounded happy to see Aubrey.

"I am." Aubrey was about to say something else when the first kindergartener appeared on the stage.

She couldn't have been older than four years old, and she wobbled towards the center of the stage, her arms carefully positioned over her head. She bowed deeply and moved forward where the mic was tilted down on the stand since it reached well above her head.

The girl raised her head and started reciting garbledly from memory. "Welcome to our presstation. We are Miss Beale students. Thank you."

There were a few chuckles from the audience as the girl retreated back to the sidelines and Aubrey heard Stacie squeak adorably. "She's so cute."

The rest of the kids filed in, all wearing such a wide array of costumes that Aubrey couldn't tell how it was all going to come together. They all started dancing, together at first but then the smaller ones started going off on their own, flailing and jumping at their own pace.

Aubrey raised an eyebrow at Stacie when she snorted loudly and she shook her head. "They're adorable."

Aubrey turned back towards the stage. They were pretty cute, but she didn't get if the mess was because Chloe let them do whatever they wanted or because they were too young to follow a routine.

Finally, the music stopped and all the kids halted their frantic movements and bowed as their parents and family clapped enthusiastically.

"That was…" Aubrey started.

"I know! I want to squish them all." Stacie finished with a grin.

Aubrey rolled her eyes but didn't contradict Stacie, focusing back on the show as some of the older kids walked out onto the stage. This time, the choreography made more sense, the movements were more rhythmical and uniform, and their costumes looked like they at least followed the same pattern.

"We should have a kid." Stacie whispered in Aubrey's ear.

Aubrey was sure she'd misheard her and so she cleared her throat and asked, "what?"

A woman sitting behind them shushed Aubrey and Stacie turned to glare at her before leaning her head closer to Aubrey. "I said." Stacie took her hand, her index finger drawing lazy patterns on her palm, making Aubrey feel like her heart was crawling up to her throat. "We should have a kid. Together."

Whatever Aubrey's response was gonna be, cause she was sure she would've been able to come up with one eventually, was interrupted by the end of the performance. Stacie let go of Aubrey's hand and clapped with the rest of the audience, but Aubrey was still frozen in place.

She didn't get what Stacie meant by they should have a kid together. They'd never even kissed except for that one time in college, and Aubrey was sure Stacie didn't remember because she'd never brought it up and it had been years since that. And yes, they'd always flirted, a lot, but Stacie flirted with everyone. And while Aubrey was pretty sure she was in love with Stacie, the other girl had never said anything that might suggest she wanted to be with her, let alone have kids.

She didn't pay attention to the rest of the performances, her mind churning with Stacie's words. By the time the lights came on again, Aubrey had convinced herself that it had been a joke and that Stacie hadn't really meant it.

The three of them walked out to wait for Chloe, Beca and Stacie talking about the show and how cute all the kids were, until Stacie turned and leaned on Aubrey's shoulder. "What do you say, Bree? Should we get one?" She took both of Aubrey's hands and swung them lightly. "Can you imagine a tiny little Aubrey with blonde pigtails dancing on that stage? It would be adorable."

Beca looked like she was trying really hard not to laugh so Aubrey rolled her eyes and decided to play along. "Sure, but why stop at one, we should have five."

She dropped Stacie's hands and wrapped her arms around her neck. She was acting way more bolder than she felt.

"Five?"

She noticed Stacie gulp and she stepped closer, her fingers playing with the hairs at the nape of her neck. "We should probably get married first though, in case something happens to either of us. The kids should be legally protected."

"Umm, married?" Stacie babbled nervously.

Beca couldn't take it anymore and she burst out laughing, causing Aubrey's facade to fall and laugh too, letting go of Stacie and stepping away.

"Oh, god. You should've seen your face," Beca said, still laughing and wiping a tear from the corner of her eye.

Aubrey was turning away when she felt Stacie grab her wrist and pull her against her again. There was something dark and serious in her eyes and Aubrey frowned.

"Marry me," Stacie said in a low voice.

Beca choked on her laugh and started coughing. "What?"

Aubrey thought Stacie was still messing with her so she chuckled. "Maybe we should date first, see how it goes, at least kiss or-"

Aubrey was interrupted by Stacie's lips on her own. It took her a few seconds to respond but she soon melted into the kiss.

"Whoa!" Beca interrupted them and Aubrey pulled back.

"Marry me," Stacie whispered against her lips.

Aubrey shook her head, kissing Stacie softly. She didn't really know where this was coming from but she could wait to find out. "Ask me again later."

"Later when?" Stacie whined.

"What's going on here?" Chloe pointed at Stacie and Aubrey who still had their arms wrapped around each other.

"Stacie just proposed to Aubrey." Beca deadpanned, hoping someone would explain what was going on.

"What!" Chloe shrieked.

"I said no." Aubrey took a step back and smiled at Stacie. "For now."

"I'm so confused," Chloe said, looking between Aubrey and Stacie who were now smiling coyly at each other.

"I realized I want to marry Aubrey, so I asked." Stacie shrugged, wrapping her arms around Aubrey from behind. "Wanna grab dinner?"
