The Surprise That Would Change Everything-Part 43:

Maura was sat in her office and wondered how Louisa was getting on at school. It was the girl's first day back at school since her arm had been placed in a cast and it had been decided that Louisa would stick to her normal routine and stay in school. Jane and Maura had agreed to the decision with calmness and no arguing at all after talking to Louisa and seeing how much their disagreement had affected the girl so they were trying not to argue anymore.

Constance had remained in Boston for a few days after Louisa had been discharged to make sure that everything was sorted between Jane and Maura before she headed back to New York. She had also managed to speak to Hope finally and, despite the awkwardness at the start, they were beginning to find mutual interests to talk about, namely Maura and Louisa.

Louisa was sat in class and was thankful it wasn't her writing arm that had broken or else school would have been a problem. She was sat between Jessica and Ariana, who were both impressed at how Louisa had sorted things out but we're sorry that she'd broken her wrist. They were trying to help her as much as they could before the teacher told them to stop.

Jane sighed as she sat behind her desk thinking about Maura and Louisa when her phoned bleeped. She looked at the message and saw it was Maura and she just headed straight downstairs to Maura's office, welcome for the distraction from a boring day at the office. She did t even tell Frost where she was going, she just went.

Maura heard a knock on the door and looked up,

"Enter," she called before seeing Jane walk in, "I did t mean for you to come down here Jane," she said as Jane walked in and sat down.

"I know but I wanted to see you and I needed to stop staring at the same damn wall I've been staring at all morning." Maura couldn't help but laugh softly as she walked over and sat down next to Jane.

"What Maura? It's been a quiet day upstairs and I needed a break from it all," Jane said in her defence, "that and I can't stop thinking about Louisa and if she's ok." Maura sighed and nodded,

"I've been thinking the same thing but I've been avoiding my phone until I messaged you. I just wasn't expecting you to come down here." Jane looked at her,

"Well I was bored so it was a perfect excuse to get out of there."

"Anyone seen Jane?" Frankie asked as he walked into the squad room.

"She was her but she just took off," Frost said looking up from his paperwork, "and no she didn't say where she was going either." Frankie just nodded and sat down.

"I thought you were looking for Jane," Frost said.

"It's ok. It can wait," Frankie replied before looking at some work.

Jane had been surprised when Maura pulled out lunch and passed her something that she would actually eat instead of the stuff that Maura ate.

"Well you always come down for lunch and I know you don't like the food I eat so I got you some stuff that you would eat," Maura smiled and laughed slightly at Jane's face, "granted you came down earlier than I would have expected but you're here now so we might as well eat."Jane took her food, accidentally running a finger over Maura's hand causing the doctor to gasp out softly.

The two were sat eating and talking. The brushing of the hand had woken up something inside of them again and both couldn't stop thinking about it. Jane kept taking sneaky looks at Maura and watched her.

"Do I have something on my face?" Maura asked as she noticed Jane watching her.

"No you don't. Sorry. I just can't help watching you." Maura blushed before she carried on eating.

The two had soon finished their food and smiled before making the mistake of looking into each other's eyes. They moved closer together and their lips finally brushed together again and they began to kiss softly as Maura rested her hand on Jane's cheek. Neither woman heard footsteps approaching.

"What the hell is going on here?" came a voice out of nowhere.
