The breaking of Hell
Ezra
I'm mind my own business, milking the cows, when I hear the clicking of boots behind me. I turn around to see who it is.
It isn't Aunt Betty or Aria, Emily Spencer or Hanna. It isn't even Maddie. It's Jackie.
I look at her like she's some lost kid who showed up at home after eight years. My ex fiance is looking right at me.
Her hair was black our whole relationship. It's blonde now. Her nose is pierced, she's wearing shorts which she always loved, cowboy boots and this shirt that is really hot. No not sexy, hot. Way too hot for Kansas. She just wants to show off the way the black shirt hugs her boobs.
"Hello, Ezra." She speaks finally, through her red lips. She smiles at me like nothing has changed.
I turn back to milking the cow. I will not let her get my attention. "What are you doing here?" I ask her.
"Don't flatter yourself, Ezra." She says. "I'm not here for you."
"Then why are you in here?" I ask, trying to ignore her with my tone.
"I didn't say I couldn't come say hi," She replies.
"I didn't say you could." I shoot back.
"Oh, Ezra. Even with the highschooler, you still have hard feelings?"
I don't answer her.
"I have to say, I was hoping we could you know, pull up a chair, catch up, have coffee?" I hear the boots walking forward and I turn around to look at her. "Why are you here?" I ask again.
She's just a few feet away from me now. She stares through my eyes, turns on her heels and walks away, calling over her shoulder "To see Chris."
I follow her out immediately.
"Does Aunt Betty know you're here?!" I ask.
"They aren't home. Aria answered the door."
Oh, great.
"Does Chris know?!"
"Not yet." She keeps a quick pace heading towards the main house. "Where do you think he is?"
"He's in the chicken coop." I answer, although I have no idea why I tell her.
She changes directions and marches to the coop, remembering where it is, and I follow. Chris walks towards us unknowingly, because his eyes are down on the basket of overflowing eggs that he's trying not to drop. "Hey, Christopher." Jackie says, approaching him. He stops, and drops the entire basket onto the stone pathway and of course, they all crack.
"Jackie." He sighs. "What are you doing here."
"I gave you three weeks. For the money." She crosses her arms. "Three weeks are up."
He looks at me, pleading for help. Then, all of the sudden, it clicks into my brain.
Jackie is the mother of Chris's child.
"You hooked up with my ex fiance?!" I scream at Chris, who knows this was coming. He just looks at the ground, regretting telling me that his baby mama was blackmailing him. Which also means, Jackie is
intertwined with the A team. She knows that Chris knows who killed Alison.
Chris doesn't care that Jackie is glaring at him, he just looks at me, eyes pleading for forgiveness and help. I can't be mad at him, because I'm way too mad at Jackie to even slightly be mad at Chris. For now.
"Come on, Chris." I grab his wrist and pull him pass Jackie. And, as I predicted, she follows.
We walk to the main house. I open the door, allowing Chris is but closing the door on Jackie. She doesn't care, she opens and walks in anyway.
Chris and I simultaneously dead in our tracks at the little boy standing infront of us. We don't have to ask, we KNOW. He is a smaller version of Chris. That's his son. And standing next
to her, is a slightly bigger little girl. She has brown hair and dark eyes. She looks to be five. I do, however, have to take a second glance because this girl, looks like Chris too. Does Chris have two kids?
Got Jackie pregnant... twice?
"Hey you two" Jackie smiles at them. The little girl smiles back at her mom. The smile will haunt me till I die.
That's my smile.
That's my kid.

There's a knock at the doorbell. Jackie, the two kids and Chris look back at it.
"Oh, shit!" Chris hisses. I finally take my eyes off of the girl. The cops are at the door.
"Aunt Betty!" I call. I turn to Jackie. "I sure hope you're happy."
She winks. "I am."
I have to try VERY hard not to hit her. Aunt Betty comes down the stairs, followed by Aria, Spencer, Toby, and Peter.
"What's going on?" Aria asks. They spot the see through door, where the cops are tapping their foot waiting to be let it. I let them in.
"Christopher Fitz?" He asks me. I knew it. I point to Chris, sympathetically to him.
I go over to Aria and have her take the two stranger kids into the office and let them watch tv.
The cops tell Aunt Betty that Chris has a child. He is three years old, and his name is Rick, and Chris owes money for child support. His licenses had been taken last year and still, the money hadn't been sent
in. I wait for Chris to explain the back mail but he doesn't. Then, the police go on to explain that they have a search warrent, and one of the two police will be looking through the house for illegal drugs that
Jackie says he also has.
"Christopher Fitz, I can not..." Aunt Betty waves her hand in front of her face. "I can't even look at you, I just, I can't BELIEVE you!" She rests her hands firmly on her hips, sending a disapproving turned up nose at her oldest son, standing just a few feet away from her in the front door way, his head hung in shame.
"Aunt Betty-" Aria tries to step in to help.
Aunt Betty swings around on her heel and points a finger at her. "Don't you defend him. And Ezra!" She glares at me now, and Aria slightly hides behind my height. "You knew and you said NOTHING?"
"I didn't kn-"
"Save it!" She spits, interrupting me.
Well, that one made me feel like a kicked puppy. But still, not as bad as Chris is looking, or Spencer who's standing on the stairs across the room, a hand on her stomach (If I didn't know Spencer well, I'd
think she was protecting her unborn child from hearing this fight by covering his ears. but no, the trama has made her throw up all over Toby, who refuses to leave and change. he needs to see the show.)
Even Daniel has that look in his eye - the scared of Aunt Betty look. He stands right next to me and I'd guess he'd grab my hand if we were just years younger. The girls were just half way to the guest house
when it happened. They saw it first. They saw it coming - no warning. They stand directly behind Aunt Betty, exchanging glances. Grandpa has yet to awaken from his mid-morning nap on the couch in the
other room. And Peter is clinging onto my leg. I stroke his hair a little every now and then- when he hiccups from the crying - A characteristic I didn't know he had.
Chris looks up from the floor. Tears glisten in his eyes and his voice is shakey. "I'm sorry!" He whimpers.
"Come on, son. Let's go. You'll see them soon." The cop pulls slightly on the hand cuffs connecting Chris's wrists together. With no more words exchanged, Chris is put in the police car, and they drive away.
No one says anything. We're terrified.
"Well if you'll excuse me," Aunt Betty speaks. "I'm going to go call my husband." Spencer and Toby make a space for her to climb the stairs. "Toby, put a clean shirt on please." She says on her way up. We all
wait until the door has closed before we move an inch.
"What. Just. Happened." Spencer asks very slowly.
No one has an answer.
The silence doesn't pass until a phone rings. We all look around - where's waldo?
Waldo's under a couch cushion, and it happens to be Emily's phone.
"Who is it?"she asks, as Daniel finally finds it and pulls it out. "Maddie." He replies.
The phone goes to voice mail.
"She couldn't possibly..." Hanna starts.
"Know something?" Toby finishes as he starts up the stairs to change. "Of course she does."
"The Kansas Farm news is streamed hourly in Rosewood, remember?" Aria says sarcastically, beginning on clearing the table.
I turn to Jackie now. "Next room. NOW." I pull her into the laundry room. "Is that girl my daughter?"
She smiles up at me. "She's beautiful isn't she?"
"You didn't answer me."
She looks uncomfortable now. "I... I don't know..."
"You don't know?!"
"Ezra, you were not my only man in the past. When we broke up I had sex with three other men within a week."
I narrow my eyes at her. How did I ever love her?
"I honestly don't know who she's is."
"Find out." I bark at her. "Find out SOON!"
She looks down. "Okay."
"You're staying here." I tell her. "Until we get a paternity test you'll stay here. And if you try to leave I'll call the cops on you."
She laughs. "And tell them what?""
I get real close to her, and I can smell her breath. Minty.
"I'll tell them you killed Alison." I take a complete stab in the dark.
She doesn't drop her gaze. "I didn't kill Alison."
My heart begins to race.
"Did you want to try and convince the police of that?" I try to make my voice steady. "Let's not forget WHY you had Chris arrested. To keep quiet about A. Now, remember he tells me everything. Now,
you'll stay here?"
She considers this. "Yes."
"And Jackie? I swear you'll pay for this."
