Rhian Webb, 12, D5

I nervously walked into the room. I saw some of them roll their eyes at me as I made my way towards them.

"Hello Miss Webb… begin when you want too", called a polite voice.

I looked around the room, and I really didn't know what to do. I did some training on small weapons and climbing so I decided I would show that.

I picked up my slingshot and got some small blades and climbed up high on the fake climbing structures. I got my slingshot and aimed at the dummys. Out of 8, only two hit the dummies, and both were in the arm, where there would only be minor damage done.

I scowl to myself as I know this isn't really going well, and start to make a snare up. I make it quickly, and I really thought I had done it right. But when I pushed the dummy onto it, it didn't go off. It wasn't til I kicked the dummy did it activate.
I didn't do it right, and I knew if it was a tribute they could have got away easily.

"That will do", came a bored voice from one of the Gamemakers. "You may go Miss Webb".

"Thank-you", I say as I leave the room.

…..

I cry in our quarters. Billy cuddles and tries to tell me it will be okay, but I know I did terrible.

All of the others had done so well. I am going to die so easily in that arena.

"Rhian scores a …. 3" Caesar called.

I wipe my tears. Now all I have to get through is that stupid Interview before I die.

Billy Olli Pogmore, 15, D5

As I walk in, I take a look around the room, looking at all the weapons and dummies that had been lined up waiting for me.

"Mr. Olli Pogmore… begin when ready", someone called.

I took another look at my options, and went other to the small weapons. I grabbed a handful of sharp small stones and the slingshot.

I was told how to do this, and I knew I was better at this then I was anything else. I got some and popped three of the stones in the slot.
I pulled back, and let go. All three stones, to my surprise flung in different directions. I hadn't actually meant to do that, but to my luck, all three stones managed to hit three separate dummies. All in the head, and at the level of speed managed to go through and out the other side.

I look over to the Gamemakers and saw that some of them were nodding in interest.

I then picked up a spear, but it was a bit heavy. I went at a dummy at a run, but when I threw it, it barely hit the dummy in the foot.

I frown, and then head over to the ropes, and tell them how to make the perfect noose, and then hung a dummy with perfect certainty.

"Thank-you Mr. Olli Pogmore. You are now free to leave", called the same voice that greeted me.

…..

Rhian didn't do too well. I held her as she cried. Not really knowing what to do, and how to react.

Billy scores a nice…. 6", called Caesar.

I got a tap and congratulations from my mentor, but it didn't mean anything to me. This really wasn't a time to be happy. In 2 days I am going into the arena.

Feline Marissa Sass, 14, D6

I still didn't gain much skill. I decided to practice most of my time with hand to hand combat and larger knifes in training, and decided it would probably be in my best interest to just show the Gamemakers I could stab someone if it came to it.

"Welcome Miss Sass", a lady greeted me. "Please start when you feel fit".

I walked over to the knives and picked it up.
I start with a run towards the dummy and leap and jump at it stabbing and tearing it to pieces, rolling around on the floor, making grunting noises as I go.

I get up and look at my achievements. The dummy has been mutilated and scattered all over the floor.

I walk back to the Gamemakers, and look at them all.

"I'm finished", I say quietly putting my hands on my hips.

"Are you sure", says an elderly man to my left.

"I'm finished", I repeat.

"Very well. You may go".

…..

I sit on the sofa in our quarters. I know they wanted more from me, and if I did more I probably would have got a higher score, but at the moment I really didn't care.

"Feline get's a score of…. 6", came the commentator, I forget his name.

I smile. The score was higher then I had thought. I am not sure what impressed them so much. But maybe now I will actually get some sponsors.

Mark Smith, 13, D6

I walk in and walk up to the Gamemakers. I don't really know how these things work. I imaged they would tell me what to do, but they all seem to be waiting for me to do something.

"Hi. Erm, what do I do?", I asked them curiously.

"Whatever you feel you're best at Mr. Smith", called back a bright guy from the middle.

I twist my lips, and look around me. I didn't really train if I am brutually honest.

I decided to do some throwing off the knifes at target boards.

I managed to hit 7 out of 10 in the red. Which was better then I expected, but 1 off them was way off, which hopefully won't make the Gamemakers know it was all a big fluke. I then decided to do some climbing, to show them I wouldn't be totally useless if I needed too climb, and could do it at a good pace too.

I jumped down at a impressive height and landed on my feet.

Some of them looked bored, whilst others were looking at me with interest.

"Your excused called the one who seemed quite bored.

…..

I congratulated Feline on her good score. I knew I wasn't going to do as good, but I hoped by not much.

My face come up on the screen, and I took a deep breathe. "Mark with a…. 5", called Caesar. I let my breathe go, relieved.

"I hope these scores are good enough for District 7", whispers Feline to me.
