-Carol-

Carol smiled when Daryl accepted her kiss and deepened it. She ran her hands through his hair while he pulled her in by her hips. She had never felt safer in her life. She felt protected, wanted, and loved. She loved Daryl and she knew he loved her as well. This felt real as real as it could be and Carol was greatful. After a couple minutes they broke apart panting.

"Should we tell the others about… us or should we let them figure it out?" Carol said smirking as she played with his hand entwining it in hers. She admired the way he didn't shy away from her and how he only lets her get close enough to touch him.

"Let em figure it out" Daryl replied, "Sides lets have some fun before they spread it round and everyone hounds us on it"

"Agreed" Carol retorted leaning into him, "I better help with dinner" she whispered breaking apart from Daryl but he shook his head and held on to her, "Seriously Daryl" She said laughing, "Come on let go"

"How bout we skip dinner?" He asked, "Ya know, just take it off let the old ladies take care of it for once"

"I can't" Carol said smacking his arm playfully, "I promised Lizzie and Mika I would let them help me and I don't want to keep them waiting."

"Fine" He said grunting, "I got watch anyways." He let his grip on Carol go but didn't move his arms away from her. She lightly kissed his cheek before slipping out of his grasp and heading out of the library.

Before she left she turned to him, "Meet me at the fences after watch" She watched him nod before leaving to go make dinner.

"Took you long enough" Mika said getting up from her seat and heading towards Carol, "We waited forever!"

"It was only a couple of minutes" Carol said smiling, "Eager to learn are we?" She turned her back on the girls and started to get everything needed out so she could teach them a thing or two about cooking during the apocalypse.

Mika nodded, "yup cooking looks fun!"

"It's just cooking" Lizzie said looking bored, "I would have rather gone outside to check up on Nick."

"Lizzie it's good to know this stuff for when we grow up"

"I guess" Lizzie said turning to Carol who was zoned out as she set up. Carol had everything out on the table and got the girls busy cutting up fresh vegetables from the garden Hershel and Rick had made. Carol was going to teach them how to make soup with all the things found in the garden and some edible plants that they can identify.

"Where were you before anyways?" Mika asked, "You seem happier"

Carol smiled, "I had to talk to Daryl for a bit"

"How is he?" Lizzie questioned, "I heard he was sick this morning"

Wow word travels fast around here, Carol thought but laughed at the fact of the girls thinking he was sick when he was drunk and now recovering from his hang over, "Yes he is better. Just a little head ache right now but it will be gone by tomorrow"

"That's good" Mika said, "Dad always used to tell us that our health always seems much more valuable after we lose it"

"That's very true" Carol said chuckling, "Especially as you grow older you just don't work the same as you did when you were younger."

"I guess that could be the same with people too" Mika added.

"What do you mean?" Carol asked curious of what the girl was going on about,

"Well people seem more valuable after they are gone too… it's like you don't know what you have until its gone and then you just want it back again."

Carol looked at Mika her mind going to the dead briefly getting lost within the many lives that were lost and dearly missed and eventually her mind landed on her daughter. Carol never took Sophia's life for granitite she loved her every minute of every day and even after her death. She thought about her all the time and no matter what she loved Sophia and knew her daughter loved her back.

"Carol?" Mika asked, snapping Carol out of her thoughts and bringing her back to reality.

"Sorry" She said observing the work they did. After agreeing that it was fine she explained herself, "I was just lost in thought… thinking of the ones we lost"

"Like your daughter?"

"What" Carol said turning her head. How did Mika know about her daughter?

"Sophia, your daughter?" Mika said suddenly looking a little bit unsure.

"Who told you about her?" Carol said a little sternly trying to keep herself under control.

"Beth told us one night when we were with her helping out with Judith" Lizzie added and Carol nodded.

"Well I was just saying that you probably missed her a lot more because she's gone" Mika added, "I know that's how I feel about my parents"

"Sorry, I don't really want to talk about this right now if that's okay" She continued cooking trying to change the subject.

-Daryl-

Watch was slow and boring. Other than the one small herd towards tower three walkers were not really a problem. Maria an old lady from Woodbury had brought him up some dinner that Carol, Lizzie and Mika had prepared he thanked her and listened as she told one of her stories to him. After she left Daryl watched as some of the Woodbury men stabbed through the fences trying to control the horde. He watched the trees blow in the autumn wind and just wished he could be out hunting right now but he knew he owed everyone for not doing much while Carol was out. He didn't trust anyone around her and he knew his feelings were clear for her but wasn't sure if it was too late. He was taken out of thought when a voice called out to him. He lifted his head to see Tyreese looking at him.

"Your body is here but your mind is elsewhere buddy" He said watching Daryl get up, "Came to take over the rest of watch and you were deep in thought. I called you at least six times"

Daryl nodded, "Thanks man" He got up and slowly went down the stairs. It was almost completely dark now and everyone else would be getting ready for bed but instead of sleeping Daryl walked down to the fences spotting Carol in the darkness. She smiled at him when they locked eyes and she moved forward grabbing his hand when he reached her.

"What are we doin out here?" He asked wondering as to why she wanted to meet outside.

"I don't know a walk sounded nice at the time but it's getting colder out here" She said wrapping her sweater around her body tighter.

Daryl grabbed the poncho he brought with him for watch and wrapped it around her she started to object but he didn't let her, "Take it"

"Thanks"

They walked along the fences for a bit just sharing some of the good memories that were not forgotten even if some were hard to tell they supported each other and knew life was going to eventually get better. Carol mentioned what Mika said when preparing dinner and knew it was true but she was going to make sure she spent her time loving the people around her and Daryl happily agreed with her. After their walk Daryl led Carol hand in hand into the prison and into her cell not breaking apart for a second. He smirked watching the other survivors watch them go through the prison hands entwined and it was almost as if he was silently telling them she was his.

When they got into her cell Daryl pushed her up against the wall and attacked, his mouth latching onto hers. Their tongues battled for dominance but were pulled apart when someone cleared there throat from the door way of her cell. Daryl jumped back his face red as Carol straightened her clothes. They looked up to see Beth trying hard to not jump for joy with a fussy Judith in her arms.

"sorry for buggin yall" She said, "Carol, Judith is being fussy and I was wonderin if you could help me get her settled…"

"Sure Beth, I'll be right out" After Beth left Carol turned to Daryl both their faces red and burst out laughing, "I guess the cats out of the bag" She chuckled.

"Guess so" Daryl said.

"Will you be here when I get back?" She asked curious as to what he was thinking.

"Always." He said, "S'okay if I move my things in tonight?"

"It's perfect" She said going to help Beth with Judith.

-Prison-

"I walked in to see if she could help me with Judith and I caught them makin out!" Beth said excitedly to Maggie and Glenn. Are witnessing Daryl and Carol making out against the wall of Carol's cell she ran back to her cell with Judith in her arms and called her sister and Glenn inside to tell them the news.

"No way" Glenn said

"Yes way!" Beth replied, "He had her up against the wall his hands were all over her"

"Daryl? Like Daryl, Daryl?" Maggie asked, "Wow"

"So what did you do?" Glenn asked wanting details

"I cleared my throat and they jumped apart… It was pretty funny. I never thought Daryl's face could get that red"

The three started laughing but stopped when Carol entered the cell.

"Night Beth" Maggie said hugging her sister, "Night Carol" She said smirking. Maggie grabbed Glenn and led him out of her cell. Carol smiled at the two and turned to grab Judith.

After Judith was settled down Beth turned to Carol, "Sorry for interuptin before…"

"it's okay" Carol smiled.

"Are you two… A Thing?"

Carol knew this was coming and she knew from the way Maggie and Glenn were looking at her they knew too, "Yes we are"

"Well I'm glad" Beth said, "You guys deserve each other"

"Thanks Beth" She said getting up, "Have a good night" And she left the cell heading back to her own.

-Carol-

Carol smiled when she saw all of Daryl's stuff on the ground of her cell and Daryl lightly sleeping in her bed. She went up beside him and moved him over so she could get in bed. As soon as Carol moved the cover to cover them Daryl stretched out his arm and pulled her in tight.

Carol was pulled into his warmth. She kissed his hand that was wrapped around her and whispered in his ear, "I love you"

Daryl grunted also whispering his love before they both fell asleep. That night Carol had no nightmares and on the days she did Daryl was always there to help her get through them just like he had always been but this time he would hold her while she explained and tell her he was there for her. Daryl had nightmares too. He dreamt he was going to lose Carol and every time he woke up he calmed down knowing she was still in his arms.

The whole prison knew about their new relationship the next day thanks to Glenn and Maggie but it didn't bother them one bit because they were happy to just be together. Carol knew nothing could come in between their love because they had the strongest bond than anyone else in the prison. Sure they fought but everyone does and at the end of the day it was all water under the bridge because the important thing was they were together and they were surviving. Carol almost laughed one morning because she was thinking about Dr. Jenners words in her dream and how wrong they were everyone in the prison was surviving and thriving especially her.

A couple months later Daryl approached Carol one evening and asked her to marry him. He knew he loved her with all his heart and it didn't matter if they even had a wedding he just wanted her to be his forever. Carol said yes right away and almost cried when Daryl brought out a ring from his back pocket. The ring was beautiful because it looked as if it were a Cherokee rose. He told her it took him forever to find the perfect one and she absolutely loved it. They didn't have a wedding but instead just asked Hershel to help them in saying their vows alone together.

Epilogue thing? One and a half years later

The prison was the biggest it has ever been. The garden was flourishing with tons of vegetables and the prison walls were so much more secure. More people were getting brought in every month all looking for a place to call home and to finally feel safe in this messed up world. Everyone in the prison accepted new comers. The Governor was never found but the threat of him returning never died entirely but was forgotten at some points along the year.

Carol was sitting alone in her cell, she was reading a book waiting for the call that the others were back from a three day run. Daryl was on that run but she wasn't nervous because she knew he would always come back to her. Carol and Daryl grew even closer than they were before over the year and a half. They were both finally happy with life knowing this was their home for years to come. Her head was so invested in her book she was started when calls were heard throughout the prison. The people that were on the run finally arrived back and apparently brought in new comers to the prison.

Carol got up and made her way to the gates. Her eyes went to Daryl who didn't look too bad and she smiled at him. Daryl nodded back as to say everything was fine but she could tell there was something else on his mind. She walked towards him wrapping her arms around his neck.

"Glad you're back"

"Glad ta be back" He said back to her, "The weirdest thing happened though…" He pulled apart from her and watched as her eyes went over to the new comers that arrived with them. She was frozen in shock when she saw Jen, Dave, and Matt exit out of one of the cars. They looked dirty and exhausted. Carol turned her head to Daryl and he only smiled. Carol only told Daryl about most of her dream experiences. She told him all about Dave, Jen, and Matt and they both wondered if there was a possibility of them being real.

Carol always assumed they weren't real but every now and again thought about if they were real. Carol introduced herself to the trio and pulled Daryl in tightly almost thanking him.

"Your husband is a real hero" Jen said to Carol later that night.

Carol looked at the woman and smiled. The first time Carol met Jen, in her dream, Jen referred to Daryl as her husband but Carol denied it and it made her smile knowing right now she was proud to say Daryl was her husband, "He's the biggest hero I know"
