Secrets, Lies and Discovering Truths-Part 45:

It was a few days after the disagreement over Lydia's weight and things were finally beginning to settle down for Lydia. She was with the trio during the day and then after dinner Draco would join her and they'd work on their homework and just catch up. The trio also had her on Saturdays as Lydia had rejoined the Quidditch team so she and Harry had practice and then spent the day with Hermione and Ron. Draco, meanwhile, had Lydia to himself on Sundays and Lydia longed for the time with Draco but she couldn't shake Hermione's words from her head.

Draco noticed something was wrong and he finally plucked up the courage to ask her about it as the two were down by the Black Lake.

"What are you thinking about?" he quizzed as he saw Lydia staring out over the Lake.

"Something Hermione said," Lydia said, "I just can't help thinking if she's onto something."

"What's Granger saying this time?" Draco asked as he watched Lydia.

"That we're soulmates," came the reply before silence fell on the pair and even Draco found himself staring out across the Lake and wrapping an arm around Lydia. Now what Hermione had told Lydia was beginning to sink into the blonde's head and he was now thinking the same thing.

"That's impossible. We're only 11-years-old…but I do have to wonder what has drawn us together," Draco sighed, "something has and I guess we'll learn that in time," he said softly before offering her a sip of some tea.

"Thank you," Lydia smiled softly.

Hermione was right and Lydia was slowly being drawn into a parental war as Remus was trying to break his own rule and was trying to be a father to Lydia. Queenie and Narcissa had come together with Tina and had discussed it and the next thing Remus knew was he and Tina were in Dumbledore's office sorting everything out and then Lydia was called to the office.

"Just stay away from parental jobs whilst I'm away," Lydia heard her mother tell her father before she knocked on the door and was told to enter and she walked in and ran over to her mother and hugged her.

"What are you doing here mum?" Lydia asked after she hugged her mother, "I thought you were all staying away…"

"That was…is still the plan," Tina said, "but I had to come and have a chat with your father and speak to you. I have to go away for a few days with the Ministry and MACUSA. It's a joint operation and until I reach the end or come home I can't be reached."

"I understand mum," Lydia said. She was a little hurt but she could also understand.

"It's OK to be upset about me going away darling but I will come and see you as soon as I'm back. I promise," Tina said, stroking her daughter's hair, "in the meantime if there are any problems send Brownie to Narcissa and she'll do what she can."

"Why not let her come to me?" Remus asked.

"I have to agree with Tina," Dumbledore said, "Remus…things are messy enough between you and Lydia without you trying to be her father. You can speak with her and start repairing bridges but parental stuff needs to be left to Tina and Narcissa Malfoy. They alone have the authority with Miss Lupin here." Remus sighed and crossed his arms,

"If that's what it has to be then that is what it'll be. I will talk with Lydia and start trying to repair things," he conceded before walking out of the office.

Lydia sat down in the chair and stroked Fawkes the Phoenix's head before Tina hugged her daughter and said she loved her before using the Floo Network to get to the Ministry.

"Who do you want me to summon?" Dumbledore asked.

"Draco," Lydia whispered and soon the blonde Malfoy was in the office.

"Lydia? What's happened?" Draco asked, seeing his best friend upset.

"Tina's been called away for a few days on a mission and has just left after telling Lydia. She's upset and worried," Dumbledore explained. Draco nodded before going over to Lydia and wrapping his arm around her.

"It'll be OK Lydia," Draco said softly, "why don't we go to the Great Hall? It's almost time for lunch. I'll tell them what's going on." Lydia nodded and the two headed to the Great Hall and Draco sat at the Gryffindor Table until Harry, Ron and Hermione arrived.

"What are you doing sat here Malfoy?" Harry asked.

"Don't start. Tina's been called away on a mission so she's upset and I didn't want to leave her on her own," Draco said before kissing Lydia's head softly before heading to the Slytherin Table.

"Sorry we were harsh on him," Ron said as he sat down, "we should have let him explain first."

"It's fine," Lydia sighed before picking at her food. Her mother going was affecting her. She knew it wasn't forever but it was the first time she'd been called away on a mission since the reunion.

Hermione wrapped an arm around Lydia.

"She'll be OK Lydia. She'll come home in a few days and you'll have learnt lessons from this. It was bound to happen at some point but it doesn't make it any easier," she said softly and Lydia smiled softly before she sighed and ate her lunch.

The rest of the day passed slowly for Lydia and she was grateful that the last lesson was History of Magic because it allowed her mind to wander. Hermione had said she'd let Lydia borrow her notes considering the situation.

Remus had popped his head in about halfway through the lesson to have a word with Professor Binns but Draco and the trio knew that he was really checking on how Lydia was.

After the lesson Lydia said she was taking a long route back to the Common Room and Hermione insisted that she was fine and just wanted some time alone.

Lydia was down by the Transfiguration classroom when she ran into something soft and bounced back before she saw wands pointing at her. It was some Sixth Years Slytherins and she pulled her wand out but she didn't know how to repel several spells at once and she fell to the floor.

Draco wondered where Lydia was at dinner and he actually went over to Hermione and found out that she hadn't returned to the Common Room so he went looking for her.

He walked along the Transfiguration corridor and then he saw Lydia and ran into the classroom to see McGonagall there and soon Draco burst into the Hospital Wing with Lydia. He was actually sobbing as he watched Madam Pomfrey attending to Lydia.

"Lucius!" Narcissa practically screamed before Lucius came rushing into his wife's study.

"Was there any need to scream?" Lucius said.

"We need to get to Hogwarts. Lydia's been Stunned and attacked," Narcissa said. Lucius instantly forgave her for screaming and soon the two were using the Floo Newtork and were soon racing into the Hospital Wing.

Narcissa hurried to comfort her clearly distressed son and watch Lydia whilst Lucius spoke to the school Matron before heading over to Narcissa.

"She's had a Blood Replenishing potion and liquids but she may have scaring. They're trying to track down Tina but it'll be hard. They are also looking for whoever did this to her. I've given Dumbledore permission to Occulemcy to see if he can see who she saw last; that or the Pensive," Lucius said, "her Pureblood levels are fine but she was hit with several spells at the same time."

"Tell Dumbledore to speak to Pansy," Draco said, stroking Lydia's head, "she'll have something to do with it."

"Draco…?" Narcissa questioned.

"She's always been jealous of Lydia and has been following us around, trying to find our special place," Draco said, "where Lydia and I meet," he added quickly seeing the confused looks on his parents' faces, "I thought it would be safer."

"Draco we will find whoever did this and they will be punished. Pureblood or not," Lucius said, "for once in my life I will stand up for her, despite her proper Halfblood status, because she means the world to you and your mother and I want you both happy and that is by saving Lydia's life and protecting her until her mother gets here."

Narcissa was on her feet as she heard her husband's words,

"Thank you Lucius."

"Just stay with her and keep her safe. If they're still loose in the school they may well try and finish her off. I need to talk to Dumbledore," Lucius said before grabbing his cane and walking out of the room leaving Draco and Narcissa to watch over Lydia, hoping that she'd soon wake up and be able to tell them what happened to her.
