Epilogue 10: Sora

Chapter theme: Hero by Skillet

Sora pulled at his tie; oh, how he hated being back at school. He jumped as a hand touched his shoulder. "Sora… calm down…"

"Oh, hey Kairi." His body relaxed a bit.

"Sora, are you alright? You seem tense… real tense."

The boy sighed, "Sorry, Kairi. I'm just not used to going back to normal life yet."

"Still ready for battle…?" She took his hand and kissed his cheek. "Don't worry, I'm feeling the same way too. It's hard but, if Riku and I can adjust back, so can you."

As they went into the school, every sudden movement caused Sora to stiffen. Kairi gripped his hand harder to comfort him. "Kairi… I…"

A backpack was tossed across their path and Sora pulled Kairi behind him and balled his fists, ready to fight. However, it was only a friend giving his other friend his bag. "Sora, calm down," Kairi soothed.

"I… I can't…" he pulled out of her grip and ran out of the school.

"He just left?" Marion asked the person over the phone. Kairi had called Sora's mom after he left.

"Yea… Mrs. Kumo, I'm worried about him. He said he can't adjust to normal life again; at the slightest movement, he gets ready to fight. He's very nervous."

Marion had her on speaker phone so that Levi heard the whole thing too. "I think I might know where he is. Don't worry, Kairi, I'll try and help him out of this funk."

"Thank you Mr. Kumo. Please, tell me when he's doing better."

"I will; thank you Kairi."

"I hope Sora's alright," Marion said after hanging up the phone.

Levi took her hand, gently. "I know our son. He and I had a special place where we'd play when he was little. I think that's where he went." The woman nodded.

Sora sat in a little cove, watching the water splash onto the sand. He had discovered this place when he was little, when the water had sucked him out and deposited him on this very beach. His dad had swum after him, and found this place. It had been their secret from then on; even Kairi and Riku didn't know about this place.

The small fish swam around in the tide pools, beside the lobsters and crabs. This cove had always calmed Sora; he looked down into the pool and saw an oyster. Oysters, the boy liked to eat them cooked or raw.

He pulled it out of the water and looked at it. "I wonder…" looking under a pile of wood, Sora pulled out a small box, and out of that, he pulled a knife.

When he opened up the shell, he smiled. "It's a good one too."

"You know your mom will flip if she knows you haven't washed that."

Sora looked up to see his dad standing there; the boy smiled. "You never told her about it when I was little. You let me eat as many as I wanted and you would join me too."

"Go ahead…" Levi watched as his son tilted up the shell and slurped down the meat inside. "Sora, your mom and I got a phone call from Kairi. She told us what was happening and how you left school." His son looked down. "Sora, don't shut everyone out. We can help you."

"How… how can I go back to normal life, to school, and homework, and peace after knowing battle for so long? Every other time, there was always this feeling that it wasn't over, that something else was out there, but now… now there's nothing. I don't know what to do. I don't understand how Riku and Kairi and act like nothing has changed from before our adventures."

Levi sat down on the sand beside Sora and reached into the tide pool, pulling out another little oyster. As he opened it himself, he sighed. "I've never experienced what you have or gone through what you have but, I've worked with people who've endured trauma." He placed a hand on his son's shoulder. "I believe I know how your friends are dealing with it."

"You do?"

"Both of them have someone to adjust for. Riku has to go back to normal life to help calm his mom down. Kairi has you to think of. You too have someone to watch over and someone worth adjusting back for."

Sora blushed. "Kairi…"

"It doesn't take much to see the love that you two have for one another." Levi grinned. "Here's the thing though, to adjust back doesn't mean you go back to exactly how things were; that's what you've been trying to do and it's shocking you, to put it one way. Try and change things up, make it different, that'll make it easier to adjust."

"Change things up?"

His dad nodded. "Yea, maybe… since it's a Friday, take Kairi on a date. You've never done that before. Oh, here's a good idea… make a fire here, in the cove, lay a blanket out, get some oysters and crabs and have a picnic on the beach, under the stars."

"Wow, Dad," Sora laughed, "are you serious?"

"Completely, that's how I did my first date with your mom."

Sora laughed even louder. "Ok, I'll try it."

"Sora! Are you doing ok now?" Kairi took his hand comfortingly. School was out and the girl had gone looking for him.

"I'm fine, Kairi."

"You gave Kairi quite a scare," Riku said, coming over to them, "she couldn't concentrate all day."

"Sorry…"

The girl kissed his cheek. "Well, as long as you're doing better now."

Sora smiled. "Yea, my dad talked me out of my, whatever you wanna call it."

"Heroic Blue Screen of Death…" Riku offered.

"Shut up!" Kairi laughed and soon the other two followed suit. "Say, Kairi…"

"Yes?"

Sora blushed heavily. "I was wondering, to make up for worrying you, would you like to have dinner with me tonight?"

"Like on a date?" Sora nodded. "I'd love to!"

"Great! I'll come by your house around 6!"

Kairi smiled and pulled away. "See you at 6 then."

As she ran off, Riku elbowed his best friend. "Nice going, Romeo."

"Shut up!

Sora led Kairi under a rocky overhang, pushing aside some vines. "So, where exactly are we going?"

"It's a secret that only I and my dad know about." Rounding a corner, they entered the cove where a fire lay blazing in the sand with a stone propped over it and a blanket lay nearby. "What'd ya think?"

"I never knew you had such a romantic side."

"Honestly, it was my Dad's idea." Sora sat down on the blanket and the girl joined him. "I've got some crab meat and some oysters we can cook or do you like your oysters raw?"

"I'm good with either option." She smiled as she watched Sora begin to cook over the open fire.

It was a pleasant meal and a wonderful time for both of them. As the fire began to die down, they lay on the blanket, staring up at the stars. "Sora…"

"Yea…"

"Now that Xehanort is dead, we're free to go and visit any world we want, just to go. Do you think that'll last?"

Sora sat silent for a moment before speaking. "Well, the worlds are all connected now that Kingdom Hearts is in the right again so, I don't see why not."

"That's what I was thinking too." Kairi sighed. "Maybe, one day, we could all take our children out into the worlds and show them what's out there."

"Our… children…" Sora's face became red; he knew she didn't mean it that way but… "I… I think that would be cool, someday… someday…"

Not Normal

How do you go back to normal? Sometimes, it feels like you can't; staying out of the 'normal' can be a dangerous place.

When it comes to walking with God, sometimes you'll go to a camp or a conference and get this 'spiritual high' but things go back to normal. This happens because you can encounter God and do nothing with the encounter; if you do nothing, nothing will change.

Why would you want to be normal though, being like everybody else and not being your own person? If you do something with the encounter, don't go back to being normal. Normal in this world is sitting back and not doing much. If you're going to be normal, be normal in Jesus, because he is the best normal you can get to.

Normal in Jesus means that things, like what happened in Acts 3, will be a normal thing. Acts 3: 1-10 says, "One day Peter and John were going up to the temple at the time of prayer—at three in the afternoon. 2 Now a man who was lame from birthwas being carried to the temple gate called Beautiful, where he was put every day to beg from those going into the temple courts. 3 When he saw Peter and John about to enter, he asked them for money. 4 Peter looked straight at him, as did John. Then Peter said, "Look at us!" 5 So the man gave them his attention, expecting to get something from them.

6 Then Peter said, "Silver or gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk." 7 Taking him by the right hand, he helped him up, and instantly the man's feet and ankles became strong. 8 He jumped to his feet and began to walk. Then he went with them into the temple courts, walking and jumping, and praising God. 9 When all the people saw him walking and praising God, 10 they recognized him as the same man who used to sit begging at the temple gate called Beautiful, and they were filled with wonder and amazement at what had happened to him."

The power that raised Jesus from the dead is in us. Through us, God can heal the sick, restore unusable limbs, and much more.

Normal in Jesus is not the normal of the world, and why would you ever go back to that normal?
