I hope this does Iola justice
It took a further 3 days for River to regain enough strength to get up and leave her bed. Amelia was delighted and spent all her time with her mother. The Doctor had restored River's body to her pre-pregnancy state.
3 days after regaining her strength the Doctor made a delicate proposal "River, I have Iola's ashes. Would you like to scatter them or bury them, whatever you want" River swallowed hard. "We should scatter her ashes" River suggested.
The Doctor nodded "Shall I fetch Ammie?"
"Yes, Iola was her sister and she deserves to say goodbye" River said slowly. The Doctor smiled a sad smile and went to fetch the little box his daughter rested in and then got Ammie. He carried both his daughters to the console room; it was a rare but sad opportunity. The Doctor passed Amelia to River who held her tight "Where do you want to go?" the Doctor asked his wife quietly.
"Peaceful space" River said sitting down on a chair with Amelia on her lap. The Doctor danced around the console. River whispered kind things to her little girl. The TARDIS came to a stop; the Doctor walked to the doors and stood waiting for his wife. River joined him and put Amelia down and took her hand. The Doctor flung open the doors, revealing a midnight varsity dotted with diamond like stars. The Doctor looked down and the black box in his hands, the remains of his baby daughter who he never got to hold. The Doctor looked at River over the head of their surviving daughter, they nodded at each other. River leaned down to her daughter "We have to say goodbye to Iola when daddy empties the box" River instructed her daughter. She stood back up; the Doctor lifted the lid of the box. He held in outside of the TARDIS and the ashes seemed to be pulled from the box and was swirled through the vacuum. Caught up in solar winds they danced around stars "Bye bye Iola" Amelia whispered tearfully.
"I love you always, my darling Iola Rose" River spoke almost inaudibly. The Doctor sang a silent Gallifreyan mourning song in his mind and shared its tragic beauty telepathically with River who wept and held her daughter close by her side. "She can travel the stars now" the Doctor said speaking prepared words. Iola flew through the vacuum of space, bathed in the light of suns and stars.
