JULIETTE

"Miss Oath, right this way please." Juliette followed the nurse down the hall towards the place where she was to have her check up. It was a tedious affair, that she was not looking forward to. She wished she had said no, but Bruce had insisted. "Go ahead and sit down, Miss Oath." Juliette did as she was asked.
"What is the nature of your visit today?"
"I- I'm pregnant." Juliette said. It was the first time she'd said it aloud to anyone but Bruce, and it sounded so strange.
"Congratulations, Miss Oath! How far along are you?"
"Sixteen Weeks."

"Well, You're a little late for a first appointment."
"Yes, I've been busy, but my boyfriend's a doctor... so, he made sure I got in here."
"Well, that's wonderful. We'll be right with you, momentarily to begin checkup."
"Thank you." Ding!

Bruce 10:12am
Are you at your appointment?

Me 10:13am
Yes, don't worry about me. I'm fine.

"Alright, Miss Oath, are you ready to hear your baby's heartbeat?" The nurse returned, smiling brightly. For some reason Juliette felt a suddenly rise of excitement in her heart.
"Yes." She nodded. The nurse pulled a small machine out from one of the drawers in the room and applied some form of a gel to it.
"This should be able to pick up your baby's heart beat quite easily, alright. I'll try and find it. Sometimes it takes a couple minutes." Nervously, Juliette pulled up her shirt with shaking hands and the nurse began gently moving the machine's arm over her belly. After a few minutes she frowned with confusion.
"Hmm."

"What is it? What's wrong?" Panic began filling Juliette's heart.
"It's just strange... I can't see to find..." No. No... No... Tears were welling up at the corners of her eyes, as she clutched her shirt tightly. Why wasn't Bruce here? She couldn't do this without him. Without even asking she dialed his number, and placed the phone on speaker phone, setting it on the counter.

"Hello?"
"Hi, Bruce. I'm... I'm at the appointment. And..." Juliette choked on a sob.
"It's alright, Miss Oath, sometimes you can't hear the baby's heartbeat for numerous different reasons." The nurse was saying.
"You don't understand!" Juliette gasped, "I need to... I can't lose this baby!"

"Juliette, what's going on?" At the sound of Bruce's calm voice Juliette burst into tears.
"She can't find the heartbeat, Bruce! It's not there! Our baby could be dead!"
"Miss Oath, I don't think-"
"Juliette... settle down it's okay! It could be anything."
"Your... boyfriend is right." The nurse nodded. "Sometimes the baby needs more time to develop before you can hear the heart beat sometimes the-"
"Bruce, I need you. I need you here."

"I'm sorry, baby." Bruce sighed. "I'm sorry." Juliette let the tears run freely in silence. They didn't understand how now she wouldn't be able to sleep, she wouldn't be able to do anything without knowing if her baby was alive or dead, without knowing for sure. Suddenly another noise filled the room.
"I found it!" The nurse cried. Then Juliette heard Bruce begin to laugh.
"Oh my god, Juliette, do you hear it?! That's our baby!" Juliette grinned, but more tears filled her eyes and she sobbed,
"Oh my god..." She shook her head. "It's so beautiful..."

JANE

"Joy! You have a little girl!" The doctor smiled. Joy choked on a sob, and gripped Jane's hand tighter, which Jane hadn't thought possible. She was filled with relief the moment she had heard the baby's cry, but was also sad that Loki hadn't made it to see his daughter come into the world. Thor was meeting him at the airport. His flight should have landed only moments ago. Then Thor would catch a flight to Florida to assist Clint and Juliette.

"Here you go, Mrs. Odinson." The nurse came around the bed gently cradling the little baby in a pink cap, and the white blanket that Jane had knit for the little one.
"Oh!" Jane grinned as she looked at the look of wonder in Joy's eyes as she gently took her baby. Joy looked exhausted, like she'd just fought a dragon, but the moment she saw her daughter she looked so peaceful and happy. Jane looked over at Natasha on the other side of the bed.
"Well... for a moment there I thought maybe I was regretting my decision to keep Mr. Romanoff-Barton..." Tasha rubbed her growing belly then smiled, "But this... this is beautiful." Joy stared down at her daughter, her eyes bright with happiness as she rocked her back and forth.

"She's so... so little."
"They are, aren't they?" Jane smiled. "Revel in every moment, in two blinks she'll be a five year old drawing all over the walls."

THOR

"Brother! How are you?"
"Thor? What are you doing here?" Loki frowned as he moved through the airport quickly.
"I am taking your place in the land of Florida. My plane leaves in an hour."
"Thor, did you see Joy?"

"I... yes? But..."
"How is she?"
"She is doing well." Thor nodded. "The last I saw her she was progressing rather quickly, so you ought to hurry."
"Thank you. I can't spare a minute, but I hope you, Clint, and Juliette find Tony and Fitz."

"Thank you, and I hope you... meet a beautiful child when you get to the hospital."
"Umm... thanks..." Loki hugged his brother tightly and then hurried out towards the baggage claim.

CLINT

"So! That cigarette butt I found? Guess what. It came back with a DNA sample."
"No way!" Juliette looked up, grinning. "That's good news! Right?"
"It is, if the DNA sample is in the system. It might not be."
"But there's a most probable chance that it is, right?"
"Yes-" Suddenly Clint's phone began to ring. He looked down at it, and frowned. "It's the director."
"Put it on speaker phone." Juliette said.

"Hello?" Clint said, as he swiped his thumb across the screen to answer the call.
"Hello, Agent Barton, Agent Oath. I'm calling with some news. Finley Kristin Odinson was born last night at midnight, or round about that time."
"Aww! Finley! That's darling! Did Loki make it in time?"
"Unfortunately Loki was unable to make a flight that would get him there at that time, but he made it on the ground just as Finley was welcomed into the world."

"Exactly why are you telling us this, Director?" Clint asked.
"Well, I'm calling to let you know that Thor will be joining you in Loki's place. He should be there any minute now."
"Thank you, Director."
"Have you made any progress?" Coulson asked.
"Well, we think we may have a lead. We just have to run some data through the system."
"Do it! I want these people caught and Tony and Fitz returned safely."
"Yes, sir." Clint nodded.

"Alright, report back later. I've gotta go take care of a vigilante."
"A what?" Juliette frowned.
"I'll call you all later."
"A vigilante?" Clint shook his head. "What the hell is going on up there?"

LOKI

"Loki." Joy saw his figure first and immediately recognized him. She smiled, but she looked exhausted when he stepped into the room. "Come see!" She breathed, struggling to sit up straight. In her arms was a bundle of white and pink, and it was then that he realized just exactly how terrified he was of meeting his daughter, how terrified he was of being a father. He quietly moved over to Joy's side and stared down into the most beautiful child he had ever seen.

"Joy..." He whispered, wrapping his arms around his wife. "She's beautiful." Joy smiled, leaning back against the pillows in her hospital bed.
"She's ours. Finley Kristin." She gently kissed him on the cheek and then held up Finley for Loki to see better. "Here, hold her."
"I- I couldn't."
"Of course you can. She's your daughter!"
"But what if I drop her?" Joy laughed.

"You're not going to drop her, silly." Joy gently passed Finley into Loki's arms, the child stirred but didn't wake up. "Look, darling one," Joy smiled, "It's your daddy." Loki looked over at Joy,
"She's so small." He breathed. Joy nodded, and sat up, reaching over him and pulling Finley's little hand out from the safety of her white blanket.
"Look at her little fingers." Loki gently took his daughter's hand, and ran his thumb over her four perfect fingers, and one tiny curved thumb. He stroked her little fingernails one at a time, reveling in the darling perfection of each one.
"Welcome home, little one."
