Summary: Experiences are what shape people into who they are. What happens when the majority of someone's experiences comes from the streets? One young boy gets left on the streets and in doing so changes the entirety of his life. Without any knowledge of who he really is, he must face a world of magic and rise above it.
Notes: this is my own take on the whole idea of Harry growing up on the streets and making it a bit of a Severitus challenge. As with most stories of this nature, it was inspired by the story "Not Myself" by Saerry Snape. This is my own way of making it, via the help of my lovely sister and editor (some of the time) Daeleniel Shadowphyre. So I hope people like it, and I hope it makes sense. Also, yes there will be cockney within this piece. I have my reasons for sticking to as close as I can get to the sound. Don't worry; the dialogue on Victor's end will become more refined, eventually.
Chapter 52
Victor walked towards the Great Hall with Severus, but had to stop when Severus did so. The younger Snape looked at his father and wondered why the man had stopped walking. Severus looked over his shoulder and pulled Victor into an alcove. Victor only frowned as he was dragged into the alcove.
Severus looked at Victor. "Victor, I want you to keep an eye on your classmates this year. There are things that need my attention and will keep me from watching them myself." He stopped for a moment and then nodded. "One of those things is watching Dumbledore. So, will you keep an eye on your classmates for me?" Victor nodded. He had already intended to do that. This was mainly because he was unnerved at the interactions that he had experienced on the train ride. There was something about those interactions that made him wonder what the people were up to. Severus nodded after a moment and walked out of the alcove. Victor followed behind him seconds later.
He and Severus walked into the Great Hall. The majority of the people in the hall stopped talking when they came in. Victor straightened his shoulders and watched the students. Severus scowled and glared at the students. Those that could remember him, which were the sixth and seventh years, looked away. The younger years kept their eyes glued onto the pair. Severus' scowl stayed in place as he led Victor over to the Ravenclaw table. Neither of them spoke as they walked in that direction.
Severus left after glaring at the Ravenclaws. Victor sat at the table, trying to ignore the people around him. He wasn't in the mood to talk with anyone. Someone then sat across from him. His eyes fell onto the person and he held in a groan. The person was none other than the bossy girl from the train. "What are you doing sitting at this table? Shouldn't you be with the first years?" Her tone was the one that he had heard on the train. This caused Victor to keep silent for a bit.
Victor shifted in his seat. "I'm sitting here because I was already sorted by the headmaster in a private ceremony. This is where the hat placed me." He then looked away from her. He heard an irritated huff come from her direction. The sound didn't shock him in the slightest, though he was annoyed by it. He then looked at the head table and saw that the headmaster was sitting in his chair. Yet, he didn't get a chance to study the man. This was because the doors to the Great Hall opened and drew Victor's attention away. In walked the teacher that had wanted to lead him to the headmaster. Behind her were a group of first years.
Victor watched as the sorting ceremony started. The process was the same as when he had gone through it, though Victor quickly noticed that the number of students being sorted was less than his had been. He then shook his head and focused on the somewhat subdued manner in which the older students were cheering. That caused Victor to wonder if the supposed problems were bigger than he had thought. Yet, he pushed those thoughts away and continued to watch the sorting.
When the sorting was over, Dumbledore stood up. The man had a smile on his face. "I welcome you to another year at Hogwarts. I would like us to welcome our new Defence against the Dark Arts teacher, Remus Lupin." He stopped and let a few people clap. The students didn't seem that enthusiastic about the new teacher. Dumbledore nodded. "Yes, we are glad to see a new face. I would also like to welcome the return of Severus Snape as Potions Master and head of Slytherin. He has finally returned from his several year sabbatical." The Slytherins clapped, but most of the students acted as if they knew didn't what to do. Yet, Victor had a feeling that it was the man's scowl that caused the students hesitance. Dumbledore raised his hands. "I would also like to welcome his son, Victor Snape. Mr. Snape was sorted into Ravenclaw earlier this evening. Please help him to feel welcome. Now, lets eat." He then sat down. Quite a few students looked at Victor. They were whispering among themselves. Some were even pointing. However, Victor ignored them.
The girl looked at him with wide eyes. "You're a teacher's kid?" Victor shrugged. He wasn't in the mood to deal with her or anyone else. He just wanted to get out of the room as quickly as he could. He hadn't liked what the man had done, but he wasn't surprised. He had expected something like that. The statement had put him on guard, which was exactly where he needed to be.
A/N: Well, the school year has started. Time for Victor to get his plan started. Hope that you all enjoyed. Later.
