Chapter 53: A Promise Made
"You know he's been talking about how you'd be alive the next time I saw you for almost 30 years now right?" Omato said, with an irritated tone at the fact his father had dismissed Bardock so quickly.
Nappa looked over at his son who had stood by his arms crossed, completely unlike the military rigor he had beat into the child from a young age. Waiting for his father to finish his conversation with his, de facto mentor of these last 30 years.
"All these years that was the one prediction I could point to that even he wasn't right all the time, yet here you are. I know he sounds crazy, but you better train this Gohan or whoever and train him like your life depends on it. Last time someone didn't listen to Bardock's warnings, Frieza blew up our planet and our race ended up here." Omato continued a complex look on his face.
Nappa wasn't sure what to say, this was not the reaction he was expecting from his son after so long apart. Besides he felt more like he was talking to a grisly veteran than the son that idolized him so much when he was alive.
"Wait what? You actually believe he can predict the future?" Nappa asked shocked as if his son had grown a second head.
"I'm not the idiot little kid you used to know anymore, looks aside. I've been stuck in hell for decades, hell at this point I might have more combat experience than you do old man. If he wasn't the real deal I wouldn't believe him. Hell he gave me and mom a week's notice before Frieza showed up so we could get away from the main part of the city even. Saved us each a few hundred deaths right there alone."
Nappa blinked a few times as the realization washed over him. Omato was right, he was a man trapped in a child's body at this point. At least in terms of experience. The 10 year old standing before him would be a 40 year old warrior had he survived Frieza's attack, older even than Prince Vegeta.
Omato just sighed irritatedly, "Whatever either you don't believe me or you came here to talk about something else you think is more so get on with it."
"I just...I you know wanted to see you again. It's not that I don't believe you. Hell I know a Saiyan that can teleport someone anywhere in the universe, he even got me to hell. I've become a Super Saiyan too, and I've seen a dragon that can grant any wish one could ask for. So it's not that I can't believe you I just wasn't expecting all this is all." Nappa admitted.
Omato's gaze became sharper towards the end of Nappa's last round of conversation, his mind running through the implications of what he had heard. "Wait, you know of a way to grant wishes?"
Nappa immediately knew what his son wanted. He hesitated for just a fraction of a second before deciding he would tell his son something he had been thinking about doing for a while now. "Yes, I do. Don't worry I plan on bringing you and your mom back from this shit show as soon as I can. There are some conditions that must be met to get the wish, but I'm not going to leave you here. Keep this between us for now though, it might be a couple years still." Nappa said, realizing the magnitude of the promise he just made.
It has taken Omato nearly a decade to get used to the low-class and his team hanging around him and his mother almost constantly waiting for his father to show up. But after the first time he confronted him about it the sheer difference in strength made forcing the low class warriors away impossible.
Nappa watched his son disappear into the distance in the direction Kakarot's father had gone of all people, before focusing back to the task at hand. Immediately he reached out telepathically to his only contact in the region Kakarot's former master. "Alright I'm done with my mission here could you tell Kakarot I'm ready to be picked up?" Nappa said trying to keep his voice from being sounding rude, to his one way out of hell.
There was a brief awkward moment of silence before his reply came, "Uh...unfortunately you're going to have to wait a while longer." King Kai's nasally voice came back. "Goku is a bit preoccupied at the moment."
"Wait with what?" Nappa asked automatically assuming the Earthborn Saiyan was putting off his return trip due to a meal.
"Well...his child is going to be born soon." King Kai finally said.
Goku was in a fluster, it was even worse than the first time when Gohan was born. His self-doubts boiling to the surface once more at his failure not only to protect Gohan, but to return his son to his rightful home after nearly four years. Now he would be adding another child to the world with a threat hundreds if not thousands of times greater than the ones who stole Gohan from him.
His fist tightened in determination at that moment. 'Stop it...I'm not going to fail again. I-' His thoughts were cut off by Chi Chi's calls. "Goku! HURRY! IT"S TIME!"
Goku didn't even bother running to the room, his fingers rushed to his forehead and teleported to his wife's side.
Preparations had already been made weeks in advance, the best doctors from across the territory of the Ox Kingdom had been gathered. The Ox Princess would want for nothing even from the comfort of her own home.
That still did little to ease either of the to-be parent's apprehension. For not for the present but for the future.
Several hours passed before the moment came and the Earth welcomed their newest demi-Saiyan resident. The first female Saiyan in nearly 3 decades.
Chi insisted on their second child having a more shared name than their first, so the name finally chosen was Gota, despite the fact it reminded them both of their missing son, the name just felt right.
A few brief moments together as a family were interrupted though as King Kai informed the Earth's greatest defender that Nappa had completed his objectives in hell.
Goku reluctantly left his home picked up the Saiyan General and returned home in record time, not wanting to miss a moment of his daughter's first day of life.
"I take it he's gone?" Cepa asked her tone halfway disinterested as she focused more and trying to keep King Cold from fully reviving, using just her feet, planted on his face and neck, to keep his head from fully connecting.
The latter of whom was forced to deal with the constant torture of living in the exact moment of having his head ripped clean from his body for going on the past hour. His vain attempts to free himself from his hellish torture were getting him nowhere, yet the pain was so extreme he couldn't simply stop trying.
'Power...need...more...power…' His mind frantically screamed.
"Yes another tailless Saiyan appeared out of thin air. Touched two fingers to his forehead while holding onto the oddities' shoulder then they both vanished." Tawas reported with a low bow. Although Tawas was a powerful fighter his information gathering ability was by far his most important attribute. He was one of the few Saiyans who had learned to conceal their presences while alive. Which had made him the perfect warrior to send in a rival noble's attempt to kill her son. It was a foolish mistake for both master and assassin. His skill was very useful though so she had forgiven him after being forced down into hell together not even a decade later by that son, along with her entire race.
Cepa let out a disappointed sigh. "Seems he was telling the truth-" a loud gurgling sound filled the air as Colds hands tried tightening desperately around Cepa's leg again trying to pull off some of the pressure on him. She then grunted and increased the pressure on the still separated Cold. "Silence! I already told you, you have to really prove to me you want to live. After our last fight I have my doubts."
She then returned her gaze onto her one time enemy, turned trusted servant. "Well continue."
"I have nothing else to report your majesty. I attempted to recreate the technique myself but whether I lacked of knowledge to complete the technique or by the conditions of hell I was unable to follow them."
Cepa growled in frustration for the first time in nearly a thousand years she actually began to think of hell as a prison keeping her trapped instead of a paradise keeping her prey trapped with her. She was so distracted by her sudden shift in attitude that she failed to notice that Cold's struggling had ceased entirely, a slight purple glow slowly expanding out from his body.
Tawas though noticed the change immediately, "Queen Cepa-" his warning was too late though as the air around them suddenly filled with an intense purple light.
The entire stone palace, carefully carved from stone over the centuries. Was vaporized in an instant as a massive purple sphere of energy continued to expand out over the landscape. Swallowing the majority of the Saiyan encampment. Thousands of unsuspecting Saiyans were washed away in the torrent of energy, either too weak or too late to react when the wave of energy hit them.
Finally the seemingly endless expanse of energy dissipated, revealing a strange new being at the center of a newly cleared perfectly flat plain. Cold stood still taking it all in, his entire body felt more alive than it had in centuries, even though he was in fact dead. Power rushed through every cell the likes of which he had never felt before. It was such an overwhelming feeling he almost forgot about the incredible torture he had been going through that forced him to undergo this metamorphosis, almost. Not even bothering to look at what new form his body had taken his eyes began to scan the landscape trying to find the Monkey that had the gall to cause him so much misery. Once he found her he would make sure she suffered pain a hundred, no a thousand times worse.
His inner musing were interrupted by a familiar taunting voice almost immediately though, "See now this is how you prove to me that you want to live." Cepa said landing in front of him, her body covered in scorch marks and cuts from the brief instant it had taken her to summon her Super Saiyan aura after the blast wave and enveloped her. Any slower and she would've been vaporized, waiting for her body to reform like the vast majority of her subjects.
"You'll have to excuse me. For once I'm not sure if I should thank you for saving me the trouble of finding you or laugh at your foolishness for standing before me so soon after daring to humiliate me." Cold's voice was much calmer than his words suggested though, with the power flowing through his system he was confident he could take on the entire army of Super Saiyans himself. Especially with the Saiyan queen as battered and bruised as she was just from his transformation.
Cepa though just smiled back, not missing a beat. "Let's just skip the formalities and get to what both of us really want." With that Cepa flared her aura.
Cold's previous smile turned into a frown in an instant, he had never encountered a creature he hated more than this one in his multiple centuries ruling the universe. His aura flared out as well easily dwarfing the Saiyan Queens. "If you're in such a hurry to die, fine I'm happy to grant that wish!" He shouted before rushing forward.
His fist slammed into her face before the Super Saiyan Queen could manage to raise her guard, his knee slamming into her gut an instant later, hard enough that a satisfying amount of blood sprayed from the Saiyan's mouth, as she rocketed into the air.
Cepa's body was locked in agony for a moment, a feeling she had been dearly missing for years, this was the fight she had been craving, an actual challenge.
As Cold phased behind Cepa and brought his massive fists down towards her back in a double ax-handle, the Saiyan Queen rotated, and crossed her arms in front of her barely supporting the crushing blow with her arms. Purple and Yellow clashed for a moment with Cold seemingly at the advantage, but as the struggle continued, Cepa's aura seemed to continue to grow and grow, until she had completely matched that of Cold.
The two titanic forces continued to struggle locked in place neither budging an inch. The excess energy lifting massive boulders, and shattering entire valley floors as they struggled for supremacy.
'How? Where is she getting all this power from?' Cold frantically thought as he realized his own aura was slowly falling behind that of the Saiyan Queen. 'This is impossible...I'm more than twice as strong as I was before…' Cold wanted to scream as he realized just how much the Saiyan Queen had been holding back on him before.
"What is this it? Oh well it'll do? You should at least be proud of yourself Cold, at least your new power puts you in the top 5 opponents I've fought since dying." Cepa said before the real battle began.
Nappa let out an involuntary sigh of relief the instant he saw the familiar sight if Capsule Corp expanding before him, he had taking his time flying back from Goku's home, after inspecting the newest half-breed Saiyan to add to their ranks. Seeing his family had awakened his long forgotten sense of loss over their deaths, and a sense of unease over what he had promised his son.
He shook off these thoughts, there were other things he had learned while in hell, most importantly, how outclassed they were compared to the Super Saiyans of Legend. A small smirk cross his lips as he thought of a couple of tricks we was about to try against Vegeta when they sparred.
(Across the Galaxy Turles Planet 1, formerly Frieza Planet 3, 1 year later)
Turles stared out over the metropolis his mind somewhere distant, wondering if there would ever be a real challenge for him again. Surely Gohan would attempt to assume control from him at some point, the boy's anger issue's almost guaranteed that. At the same time the same wild savageness was unleashed when the boy unleashed his true potential also limited his threat, he wasn't refined enough yet, especially when lost in his fits of rage.
Absentmindedly Turles took another sip of wine from his cup, as he thought about his other warriors, Ginyu was still the other closest to his strength barely, Raditz was closing the gap between them quickly enough through constant training, even then though the gap between his subordinates and himself was massive. Gohan's rage was the only wild card he knew of.
Tilting his head back he downed the rest of his glass and tossed the delicate glass container behind him causing it to shatter upon impact. The two-dozenth time he had done that since waking up today. "Damn it the drinks on this planet are too weak." Turles complained out loud.
He had managed to get an agreement in place to get a supply of higher quality drinks such as his Tarisian ale, as opposed to the weak stuff Frieza had been drinking shipped in but so far he had trouble finding suppliers to hold him over until then, due to the number of worlds he and his men had razed on their way across the galaxy.
Slightly wobbly he rose to his feet intending to relieve himself of his frustration by fighting whichever of his lieutenants happened to still be on planet at the moment. Just as his back turned though his scouter came to life.
Just as the Saiyan warrior began to turn his a bright purple light filled his view, before all he could see was light.
Gohan had adjusted to his new life among the ruling class of Turles' Empire quite well. He was well liked among the citizens of the planet, always treating them with respect, a respect many of his comrades did not.
More than that though this planet gave him an opportunity to grow, more than just in strength. He was still training nearly 12 hours a day on days he wasn't out on harvesting missions, but when he wasn't in a healing pod he had time to learn. Learn about the culture around him, learn how things worked, how to do things on his own. It was exciting, there was always something new to find on the planet, and it was one of the few activities he actually enjoyed, it reminded him of a simpler time that he could barely remember, back when he didn't have to focus on being the strongest. On having to avenge his family or the long list of others that had fallen. Before his Uncle had dragged him away from his happy life, and forced him to see the real world. He'd let go of the majority of his anger though he and Raditz had come to depend on each other too many times at this point for him to hold anything against him for long. He was the only family he had left after all.
Gohan let out a small sigh wondering if he could get another round of training in with Either Burter or his Uncle before he left on his next mission, as he rounded the final corner back towards the Royal Palace, the last of snack he had picked up at his favor vendor disappearing into his mouth in that same instant. His inner musing was immediately cut off by massive explosion blasting out of the top tower of the Palace.
Gohan's hand was immediately on his scouter, which exploded an instant later as it topped out measuring two power levels nearly a million apiece.
In the distance he could see two other figures approaching, obviously Raditz and Burter being drawn in by the sound of the explosion. Gohan's mind immediately went back to the task at hand, listing out the warriors they had faced, or even heard of that could've possibly generated even a fraction of the power he had recorded. It wasn't long, especially since he had seen one of them die before his very eyes. That only left a couple possibilities, his fingers curled tightly as he a dark thought crossed his mind about who he might find fighting Turles.
His lips immediately curled upwards into a snarl as the figures came into focus, Gohan couldn't help but shout his rage bursting forth like a volcano. Before him was the a similar being to Frieza's brother Cooler, that coupled with the know known fact that members of Frieza's family could transform at will left no doubt in Gohan's mind who was floating before him. "FRIEZA!"
Alright everyone the chapter that never seemed to be completed is finally done. I'm sorry it took so long, i've been completely overwhelmed this semester with lab reports and other stuff going on at school so I've barely had time to write at all. It's left me feeling like this chapter is kinda patchwork so if it is I apologize.
On that note given how crazy my workload is this semester I don't want to get anyone's hopes up by promising chapters earlier than I can produce so I wouldn't expect another update before Christmas time unfortunately.
Thanks everyone for all of your patience.
Simgr101 - Poor cold, he just wasn't heading in the right direction. He kind of lost his head over the situation. I guess he won't be getting ahead in his unlife anymore. I loved how you handled Nappa here. It was the perfect way for him to see but now I wonder if the Saiyans of old will help the next generation of Saiyans and perhaps even the ones in the present. You have opened up this great lot of new characters you can use now.
Yes Cold couldn't quite wrap his head around the situation until it was too late. But fear not he got his small chance at redemption...for a minute... I'm glad you enjoyed Nappa's mini arc, you'll definitely be seeing more of the Saiyans in hell again, I can't say how they will appear but they will. :) Hope you enjoyed this chapter too.
Dragonmaster1296 - Awesome chapter I never thought would you would bring in the ancient super saiyans and cepa learning about instant transmansion would make for a really great arc after the cell saga if cepa learns it and teaches it too the other saiyans. I looking forward too getting straight into the android saga cause now all the saiyans on earth have become super saiyans and I bet piccolo and cooler are ready too get off that planet
I'm glad you enjoyed the new Saiyans. I always thought it was weird that hell was so devoid of powerful fighters up until Goku's time. You'd figure there would've been some major threats that would've appeared between Buu and Frieza. That coupled with the Saiyans own legends of the Legendary Super Saiyan and other histories like Lord Slug is what gave me the idea. As for whether the Saiyans will have their own arc or not I cannot comment on that at the moment ;). Yeah you're right Piccolo and Cooler are both probably ready to see someone besides the other person.
super mystic gohan - dude I like this chapter the old sayien who can transform aye that was interesting and the queen was wicked I saw a few easter eggs in this for future chapter I really like cepa and how strong is she actually. I would love to see her vs goku that would off been intestering I thought you was gonna do that reading it threw when she said about a fight with nappa. also glad he came super sayien great work again really enjoyed this chapter did not expect this chapter as it was haha
Glad you enjoyed the chapter. That was something I felt was missing from DBZ powerful warriors from the past. I mean we knew there were Super Saiyans in the past, that's where the legends came from after all. I'm really glad you enjoyed Cepa, she's going to be an awesome character when it is all said and done. I think after this chapter though you can figure out how her vs Gok would go at the moment though lol. Hope you enjoyed this one too ;)
RKF22 - Ah so the great Nappa ascended
Yes the man, the myth, has finally become the legend-ary Super Saiyan. ;)
The Lord of the Pies - This story is amazing, finally a dbz fanfic that uses Nappa well! All the characters are interesting and I'm always excited to see where the story is going next! Keep up the great work!
Thanks for the review! Glad you are enjoying the story, sorry for the very long wait between updates I've been crazy busy right now. I'm especially happy you're enjoying Nappa. He's been a fun one to write.
Guest - Awesome as usual
Thank you! Sorry for the long wait this time, hope it was worth the wait.
apexawesome - Soo... Soo... either Zenkai/power/strength boosts dont happen at all or they happen slowly... I wonder if Kold's family can still transform?...
Thanks for the review! In my version of hell it is impossible for any of the residents to get stronger than they were than they arrived. So no zenkais or training. As you can see in this chapter though you can unlock further transformations.
AineCPB - Hey there!
Great chapter as always! I found pretty interesting the way you portrayed the Saiyans' afterlife. And Nappa's disappointment is understandable because there's nothing really left of their pride. I can even imagine Vegeta's reaction if he knew! Anyways, I had guessed that Nappa's ascension would be triggered with something happening to his family in hell, good thing it wasn't something really really bad, and I do hope he can get his family back with the dragonballs, though I guess there are some rules about their use for bringing people back to life...?
Super Saiyans ruling hell... Yep, that would definitely be Freeza's worst nightmare, LOL! But just how ruthless they are with their very own descendants, that my friend, was shocking! But, it actually makes sense considering what we know about Saiyans, so!
Bardock asking Nappa to train Gohan was something I really didn't see coming. Hahaha, poor Goku, even his father calls him idiot. Anyways, so I was thinking about the big threat only Gohan can stop. At first I thought it was Cell, but the Android saga is coming up and Gohan isn't even on the planet. I also thought of Broly, but I can't see him as the big meanie. Sure, he is super strong and whatever, but I'm guessing he has to go back home in order to prepare for it (if that's what Bardock was hinting) and whatnot and from what I understand, Broly is on his way to fight Turles... oh well, I just have to wait and see. This is me telling you I'm really hooked to the story :D
Glad you enjoyed the chapter :). I'm glad you liked my portrayal of hell, I figured this version of hell would actually be a Super Saiyan's dream if they were strong enough. And if there were enough of them banded together there aren't really many threats that can stand in their way, even before you get to the elites. Especially given how someone of Frieza's strength was able to be one of the 3 most powerful warriors in the galaxy for at least half a century.
I'm glad I still have you stumped as to who major threat is going to be ;) I won't be revealing it even if someone guesses it right though so yeah you'll just have to wait and see.
wheathermangohanssj4 - Yeah Nappa's trip was fun...I actually want Chichi to save him now, and have a totally even fight with him, in both base form, and then her busting out Kaioken x10 and him going Great Ape while it still being even, which wouldn't really be an even fight because they just keep thier speed with the power boast and not get an increase when they go great ape, and have all the other Saiyains off planet... and king Kai not paying attention, for some reason.
It'll really drive it in gokus failer, he doesn't even get the chance to make up for that failer, but would give chichi's "He' my baby He'll have the life I want him to have a leg to stand on. We can handle this HE DOESN'T/SHOULDN'T have to fight" a leg to stand on, and will make for great conflict with Nappa's newist mission.
Good point Gohan and Chi Chi would be a fairly even fight at this point if he transformed. That could definitely make things interesting. You're right it would add another dynamic to the story competing against Gohan's desire to get stronger, Goku's desire to train him and Nappa's need to train him. It would bring the story back closer to the original feel of the show as well. On the other hand, with the changes that have occurred so far, I've pictured Chi Chi as at least understanding the importance of staying strong even though she doesn't want her children to actively take part in any combat, wanting different better lives for them still.
tarrangar - I wonder how much rage Nappa would react with, if when he die say 50 years from now, he get told that he did enough good and haven't committed evil long enough, that he has been forgiven and are being sent to heaven.
Of course that would depend on whether people who are sent heaven are allowed to go live in hell, the opposite is clearly not allowed, but since Heavenbound warriors get more freedom, he might be allowed to go to hell with a Heavenbound warriors body that can get stronger.
We might see a scene like we did in GT where Piccolo threw a huge fit and got himself thrown down into hell. But if he wanted to I'm sure King Yemma would let him go if he had redeemed himself at that point. He could just use Goku or whatever method Pikkon uses to go between realms to move back and forth when necessary.
Jhotenko - Yeesh, considering Nappa literally went through Hell to become a super saiyan, I can only imagine what you'll put the poor guy through if he eventually ascends to level two.
Its obvious that Gohan will eventually transform with relative ease, he's got the right attitude, it's just a question of which poor sap pushes too far. Okay, to be fair, whoever does wind up enraging Gohan enough to transform likely will deserve the subsequent vicious beating.
The big question is, how is Raditz ever going to transform? Is there anything other than his own life he cares about enough to drive him through the initial transformation?
As always, I look forward to your next post.
Going through hell after going through hell on Earth. The old man had a rough ride, but he has officially rejoined the big boys table.
Yeah Gohan appears to be well on his way to transforming. He's got the snap rage, alot of it, that he is learning to call upon at will and he almost has the power cap I've imposed on the canon.
Raditz although he has softened some from his time around Gohan and Shizen, is in many ways still the selfish warrior we say back in the beginning. You're right his road is definitely a much longer one. Sorry for kinda dancing around the question, but I'm trying to not reveal too much. Hope you enjoyed the latest chapter :)
Killerunderdog (32) - Great chapter! Can't wait to see what this big bad waiting for Gohan is. My guess is Majin buu but who knows.
(33) - Damn Gohan has been through a lot at this point now, sucks to see him going back to purging planets in a sense. Although now he may be able to close the gap in power with the earthlings using the fruits.
(35) - Awesome work like usual, I noticed krill em managed to become the weakest earthling of the gang, damn I guess not being in planet Namek set him back a peice. Hope he manages to catch up a bit more in coming chapters.
(39) - Leave it to Vegeta to to push a foe that's considerably stronger than him to there max power! Then again maybe he will learn his lesson come the cell arcs. But probably not.
(41) - The earths defenders were in one hell of a mess just moments ago lol thought it was real great to have that been struggle of all the earths warriors together like that, makes me wonder if Goham will be on earth during the cell games and if he will have that epic beam struggle against Cell. It seems that this Lime character is here in place of Trunks? Hopefully Trunks does in fact come later on but idk
(44) - Raditz and Gohan are catching up slowly but surely to their other squad mates , what does Turles hope to achieve by going to Coolers home planet I wonder? The tyrant is there now k believe but still.
(51) - Oh man Trunks is one dangerous child when he ascends like that! Poor Nappa he's been put through the ringer and yet he still isn't capable of transforming. He may be the strongest non super saiyan in history hahha. Great chapter as always!
(52) - Yay Nappa finally did it, the poor guy went through a rough time trying to ascend like the others. Really thought this chapter was great with Nappa being one of my faves in this fix. As for Gohan and the powerful being, is it known to be Brolly or is the villain still not known to us, not sure if I missed that.
I had a lot of fun binge reading this masterpiece in the past few days. Here's to hoping for some speedy updates in the future! Keep up the great work man!
Hey thank you so much for all the reviews, I always enjoy getting to read a big bunch of reviews like this as someone makes there way through the story :). Sorry it's been so long since I've updated I've been swamped with school.
I can't reveal who the major villian is but all guesses are always appreciated lol ;).
Yes Krillin has fallen to the back of the pack for the time being, he can close back up with the others though, he is one of the hardest working characters in the series.
I'm glad you enjoyed that chapter of hopefully classic Vegeta doing classic Vegeta things. His pride might prevent him from learning his lesson right away but eventually it might sink in.
Trunks is one of the most dangerous characters in the series when he snaps, especially if he sees the color blue that's for sure. The Villain is still not been revealed for sure. I know who it is but I like to keep everyone in suspense, so you'll just have to wait about that ;).
JOEL - such a great story
please update!
Thank you for the review, I'm sorry i've been gone for so long, I've been absolutely swamped with school I'm barely keeping my head above water at the moment.
dragonfox123 - Awesome chapter and plot and amazing idea
Thanks hope you enjoy the rest of the story too :)
Till next time everyone :)
