Molly/Roxanne
Prompt: Shooting Star
Shooting Star
December 26, 2016
Molly loved staring at the night sky. The glittering speckled stars that splashed the dark expanse reminded her of the freckles that decorated her cheeks and nose. She felt wonderfully peaceful lying on the snow-covered ground. She loved watched her frozen breath spiral up towards the sky. She and Roxanne had been making snow angels mere moments before, but now the two of them were simply admiring the view in silence.
The unchanging sky was soon lit up as a bright light flew across the landscape. Roxanne gasped beside her and pointed her purple mitten-covered finger to the sky.
"Look, Molly!" she cried excitedly. "A shooting star!"
Molly grinned and turned her head to look at her cousin. Roxanne's face was light up with pure joy and her black, curly hair that escaped her purple beanie was flecked with snow.
"Make a wish, Roxie," she encouraged.
"Only if you make one too."
Laughing, Molly obliged and squeezed her eyes shut. She didn't know what to wish for. She was pretty happy with her life – she had a loving family, and wonderful sister and equally wonderful cousins, and she going to Hogwarts in September. There wasn't much more she could wish for. So, she did the only thing she could think of. She wished for snow.
"What did you wish for?" Roxanne asked her.
"I can't tell you," Molly laughed. "It's bad luck!"
Although she wasn't watching her cousin, she knew Roxanne would be pouting in disappointment.
"Please, Molly. I'll tell you mine!"
Molly just laughed and went back to watching the sky. Suddenly, small white snowflakes fell from the sky and landed on her nose and eyelashes. Roxanne giggled with glee and Molly grinned happily.
"Snow!" Roxanne cried. She stood up and began skipping around with her arms out wide. Molly watched her happily. Lucy would tell her it was merely a coincidence, but someone, Molly knew that it wasn't. Whatever was out there – who, Molly had no idea – had listened to her wish and answered her.
"Come on, Molly!" Roxanne reached down and pulled her older cousin up. And the two of them twirled in a circle, giggling madly, until they fell in a tangled heap, extremely dizzy but happy.
A/N: Just a little fluffy one for you. Something light hearted and fun. I thought this was pretty cute.
Ages: Molly (11), Roxanne (9).
