Epilogue: The Black Triforce

In the eternal darkness of the cursed swamp of Darkwood, a new canoe was approaching the markets in the fog-covered lake in the middle of the place. Beth the Poe was the one guiding the boat through the thick mists that obscured the way, and the passenger she was dragging with her was none other than Duelia.

The former bride of Vaati wasn't wearing her expensive dress any longer and was now donning a brown cloak instead, mostly to avoid drawing attention from the people in this area.

The last few days for her had been miserable. Without her position at Vaati's side, she was reduced to a broke peasant within a day, and had been forced to steal food just to live through the night. And as things were the way they had been, Duelia had finally decided to accept Dethl's offer and was on her way to do so right now.

When the boat reached the harbour of the shady market, Beth informed "You're, like, here now. So just get a boat over here when you're done with whatever."

Duelia took a few steps on the wooden planks that made out the harbour before she said "Somehow, I doubt I'll be using the canoes to get back there."

"Um…sure, whatever."

Beth then vanished into thin air to accommodate the next customer that was interested in the market, thus leaving Duelia alone for the time being.

But, as the ghost left her here, Duelia had no idea just where she was supposed to be going. The only information she ever got was that one of Dethl's followers would guide her, but how was she supposed to know who that was?

Uncertain about where she was heading, Duelia began to head towards the deeper ends of the place when she was suddenly stopped by a voice she didn't recognise.

"It took you some time, Duelia." The voice was calm and spoken in a somewhat creepy monotone that made her slightly uncomfortable when she heard it.

Duelia looked around the place but couldn't see who it was that just spoke. And at that prospect, she asked "Where are you?"

"Close."

"But why won't you show yourself?"

"Does it really matter what your eyes see? I gave up on mine long ago, and yet I am just as deadly as always."

"But who are you?"

"I am just a messenger, my name doesn't matter. But know that I'm a loyal servant to the one who sent you here, and one of the few people to experience the sweet taste of death yet still walks among the living."

Duelia began to back away slightly while trying to catch a glimpse of this mysterious messenger, but stopped when she felt herself bump into someone. Startled by this, she quickly turned around to see a man dressed entirely in black while keeping a hood up to hide his face. However, she could see a twin pair of glowing dots that she assumed were his eyes.

This figure spoke in the same voice she heard before when he prompted "Follow me." and began to walk into the deeper parts of the markets.

While the appearance of the messenger frightened her somewhat, she swallowed her fears and followed him to wherever he was going.

As they treaded through the complex, they bypassed a lot of peculiar figures that mostly just minded their own business, but a few of them gave Duelia a strange look when they saw her, as if they somehow recognised her.

Eventually, the messenger stopped near an unassuming bridge that for some reason lacked guardrails.

Confused by this, Duelia asked "What is it?"

The messenger simply answered "This is where it is."

"But…this is just a bridge."

"Now you're using your eyes too much. Just have a little faith."

He then stepped right off the bridge and should logically fall into the water below, but…he didn't. Instead, he simply began to stand in what looked like mid-air but turned out to be an invisible platform of some kind.

The messenger suggested "Follow in my footsteps if you like, your destination is just ahead." before he began to walk on the invisible path over the water that lead into an even thicker mist up ahead.

Duelia was little hesitant about following him, but as soon as she put both of her feet on the unseen bridge, she began to follow him to where it led.

After walking through the deep fog that covered the invisible path for almost a minute, she finally reached her destination. In the middle of the lake, obscured from the eyes of curious onlookers and only accessible by those who knew where the entrance was hidden, was the Temple of Nightmares.

The structure was massive, and had the look of an ancient castle almost. Statues of various bizarre gargoyle-like creatures decorated it, while a black symbol depicting the Triforce surrounded by a strange crest that somewhat looked like Dethl's crown was placed above the giant stone doors that made up the entrance to this place. Something else to note was that the temple looked very old, older than almost any building Duelia had seen before.

The messenger opened the door for her and said "Welcome…to the Black Triforce."

Duelia asked "The what?" while beginning to approach the open door.

"We are the ones who follow the great Mother Night in her promise of the eternal night. The Triforce is destined to one day be ours, and when it is, we will paint it black with the darkness that will encompass all corners of this world. Those that follow the words of Mother Night are a part of the Black Triforce."

The woman didn't say anything to that and instead entered the open door ahead of her. The sight before her looked like the visions Dethl showed her in her dreams, the same dark stone hallways, the same torches burning red instead of orange, and the same foreboding sense of dread. But unlike the visions she'd seen before, the hallways before her were not empty.

Dozens of mysterious hooded figures all stared at Duelia the moment she entered, their clothes were very similar to the ones that the messenger wore, as they were also dressed entirely in black and hid their faces under their hoods. She began to wonder if dressing like that was some sort of requirement or something.

The hooded figures began to place themselves on either side of the room in order to make way for her to pass between them but none of them let a word pass their lips. Their positions however made it clear that they were expecting her to enter a certain door at the end of the hallway.

Duelia didn't really know what to do and just stared at them apprehensively. But the messenger was soon to prompt "Go on, she's waiting for you."

She remained hesitant about this whole ordeal, but eventually chose to proceed deeper into this dark temple while the messenger followed closely behind.

The deeper they got, the more Duelia began to doubt her decision of coming here, and the more she just wanted to turn tail and run as fast and far away from this place as she could.

Eventually though, she came upon a room with a single empty throne that looked just a little too big for a normal human to use. It was also filled with peculiar bubble-looking objects that seemed to show various strange images in them while floating all over the room.

When she had fully entered though, black mists began to seep into the room that eventually converged into a vaguely human shape with glowing red eyes emerging from it. And she knew exactly who this being was.

"Greetings, Duelia. So glad that you could join us after all." the haunting feminine voice asked as it entered the room.

Duelia simply said "Dethl."

"So…you eventually couldn't resist, could you?"

"I didn't have much choice. You were right, I have no life without Vaati in it. And this…is the only thing I have left."

"Of course it is, because that is what we intended."

Duelia suddenly became very suspicious and questioned "What?!"

Dethl let her black mists sway all around the mortal in front of her while explaining "You were created for this very reason. We have ruled over your life ever since you were born, and everything you have ever done has been exactly as we planned it. You've been one of our favourite puppets yet, but far from the first."

That news made her back away from the dark goddess in front of her while her eyes opened wide in terror. And as she did so, she asked "Has my life…been nothing but a lie?!"

"Mortal life is already a lie. You are all gullible, pathetic, weak, and simple-minded creatures that think you rule this world. But let me tell you something, you have no idea how wrong you are. Observe…"

She then formed a four-fingered hand out of the mists that she was made out of and grabbed one of the strange bubble-shaped objects in the room. This one seemed to show a vague image of a seagull soaring over the ocean.

"This is the dream of a girl living on a distant island. Her name is Marin, and she has long dreamt about being a seagull and soar over the vast oceans that surrounds her little island home. I can turn this vision of her greatest desire into a nightmare she will beg to wake from."

The vision in the bubble then changed from a peaceful ocean into a violent and unrelenting storm that the seagull was swept into and plummeted into the water before feeling the waves tore at her wings while she began to drown over and over again. A testament to how cruel Dethl could be when she wanted to.

Duelia finally decided that she wanted no part in this and immediately turned around and tried to run for the exit. But before she got very far, the messenger grabbed her arm with a single hand and forcefully dragged her back to his master while she screamed in protest and desperately tried to free herself from his grip.

Eventually, Duelia reached into her pocket and pulled out a knife she took with her just in case and stabbed it right through his heart. But, to her surprise, the messenger didn't even flinch and pulled the knife out of his chest with his free hand as if it was nothing.

Then he quickly placed the knife at Duelia's throat and warned "You're very lucky I'm not allowed to kill you, because if I was, you'd already be dead. And there is no escape from here. When you met me in Darkwood, you sealed your fate forever. You are bound as I am bound. There is no other destiny for either of us."

Duelia tried to look into his face when she asked "Who are you?"

The messenger then threw his head back to let the hood fall to his back, revealing his true face. He was a slightly older man with spiky grey hair that partly went into a long braid to his side, on his forehead was a painted red eye with a tear underneath, the emblem of the Sheikah. But most notably was that he had empty and scarred eye-sockets which glowed with demonic energy.

And with his face revealed, he answered "My name is Ozshen, and I have returned from the dead for one reason: to bring an end to this miserable world and cast it onto shadow forever! As a walking corpse, my only purpose to exist is to finish the mission I failed before I died, and that mission starts with you."

Dethl then intervened and ordered "Ozshen dear, please keep the host intact, and bring her to me."

Ozshen threw the knife he held aside and shoved Duelia towards the black smoke that Dethl was made of. She landed on the cold floor harshly but with enough grace to avoid any lasting injuries.

And before she got a chance to stand up, the black smoke lifted her off the ground and held Duelia in place. And as the smoke-like form began to envelop her, the red eyes got very close to the mortal's face while she said "Remember how you once asked how much of you would remain after the merge, and I said you would keep all of it? Well, I may have left out the part where you will be put asleep indefinitely and your mind and your body will belong to me for the rest of your existence."

With a look of pure terror on her face, Duelia screamed "LEAVE ME ALONE, YOU HEARTLESS MONSTER!"

"Hmmmmmmmmm…no."

Dethl then forced Duelia's mouth open before all of the black smoke and even the red eyes poured into her throat before letting her fall down to the floor again. But before she could even guess what was going on, the black markings on her neck began to grow into root-like tendrils that quickly spread all over her skin. At the same time, her eyes started to glow red as Dethl was taking more and more control over her.

The experience made her scream her heart out in both mortal fear and excruciating pain. But when her mouth was open like this, one could see her teeth growing into sharp vampire-like fangs, and after the black corruption spread all over her body, her skin turned purple and several blue markings appeared all over her face and body. Metallic claw-like gauntlets formed over her hands while her previous clothing dissolved to be replaced by the attire of the Goddess of Darkness.

When the transformation was complete, she slowly began to rise to her feet while trying to get a feel of her new body. And as she stood up straight, it was apparent that she had now grown to be three-metres tall, and her green and black cape was the final part to manifest before it was apparent that Dethl, the Goddess of Darkness, had been reborn once more.

"Ha…haha…hahahahahaha…hahahahaHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAA! It's…been such a long time since I was ever in the mood to laugh. But now…I can feel the very ground beneath my feet once more, I have finally regained my physical form after living more than two millennia as nothing but a bad dream, I have unlocked all of my hidden powers, powers strong enough to switch off the sun wherever I tread, powers to rip apart reality itself and let the nightmares replace it! Let me tell you how this feels. It. Is. GLORIOUS!"

Ozshen kneeled and said "Your Majesty."

Dethl floated over to the throne at the end of the room and sat down on it for the first time in over 2 000 years, a moment that she had been waiting for just as long. And as she adjusted herself to physically sitting in her beloved throne, she began to lick her lips in anticipation before she summoned a glass of some kind of black liquid in her hand.

She took a small sip of whatever it was that was in that glass and asked "Tell us Ozshen, how exactly did you feel when you we gave you your life back?"

The Sheikah stood up before he answered "It was…not right. I was prepared to die. I was looking forward to it. But…after meeting my end because of nothing but my own rage and a lucky opportunity for that…Ilia, I felt…incomplete. I only need to breathe till the time comes when Zelda dies at my hands and Ilia is left to watch it happen."

Dethl finished her glass of…something…by swallowing the entire glass whole, her mouth and throat expanded beyond human limits when she did so. And after that decided "Then that is what you will do. But you understand if we need you to do a couple of other errands to bring forth our goal. We'd hate for you to feel as though you're but another puppet."

"There is no need to lie, Mother Night. I know you see me as nothing more than a puppet, but that suits me just fine. As long as this forsaken kingdom falls, I will do anything you ask of me."

"Well, at least you're a very useful puppet. You should see Ilia's dreams at night. Ever since you hurt her and her father, she's been haunted by visions of you, and you alone. Almost makes us squeal with satisfaction. But more important is that you made Zant's resurrection possible. Oh, speaking of which, we believe he should be here any minute now."

With a smug grin on her face, the dark goddess used her powers to levitate the throne she was sitting on and began to float straight into a nearby wall. But, being a god, the laws of physics didn't really apply to her all the time, so she simply phased right through the wall as if it wasn't even there.

In a much larger room in the temple, several dozen people had gathered in anticipation for what was to come. Most of them hid their appearances under the same black cloaks that the followers near the entrance were wearing, but quite a few of them stood out from the crowd.

Casually lounging in the corner was a teal-skinned woman in a pink, yet ominous-looking, armoured dress. Twilight markings all over her body showed her connection the world she came from, and her stance and facial expression showed an air of vainness. She was Veran, the Sorceress of Shadows, a deceptive and manipulative criminal infamous in both the Twilight Realm and Hyrule.

Another being to take note of was a peculiar ghost-like being in a purple robe who had only a singular red eye for a face. As he was waiting for whatever was about to happen, he kept giggling to himself like a crazy asylum patient, thus showing an obvious mental instability in him. This was Wizzro, an amalgamation of the cursed souls of the numerous dark sorcerers that had foolishly tried to wield the cursed Wizard Ring.

Then there were the two elderly Gerudo witches who were hovering about the room on their flying brooms while bickering amongst themselves about something trivial. They were Kotake and Koume, collectively known as Twinrova, the 'mothers' of the dreaded Ganondorf himself.

Standing in the middle of the room with a condescending snobby stance was a short man in a fancy green suit with a red noticeable moustache. His most unusual feature though was that he somehow managed to balance two green top hats on his head. This man was Chancellor Cole, a demonic bureaucrat who had both a considerable pull in Hyrule's economy and a myriad of deadly magic powers at his disposal.

A character who stood out a little bit more than the rest was a Minish sporting a slightly gothic style with his long black hair, equally black clothes and very pale skin. He was sitting on a throne just in his size that was held up by a person in a black hood. This Minish was none other than the Shadow Master, the founder and owner of the Darkwood Markets, and someone that should not be underestimated despite his small size.

The last one that stood out was a ghastly orangey-red skinned being in a white robe who lacked legs but had a pair of big clawed hands and a slightly beast-looking face. This creature was Blind the Thief, a bandit lord who once sided with the Dark Interlopers a long time ago and was reborn as an undead monstrosity who called the forsaken Dark World his home.

As these notorious villains and highly devoted cultists were waiting for something to happen, Dethl suddenly appeared out of nowhere sitting on her, apparently mobile, throne in the middle of the hall, above all of her gathered worshipers. Her appearance alone drew the eyes of everyone present, and every single one of them, even the most prideful of villains attending, kneeled at the sight of her (or something similar in Blind and Wizzro's case).

The Goddess of Darkness looked down upon her allies with an almost gleeful look on her face. And with their attention on her, she announced "Greetings, children of the night. We speak to you for a very special occasion. As you can plainly see before you, I have returned to my physical form once more. And as I walk the world once again, it is time for us to stop hiding in the shadows, for the Final Era is finally upon us."

Before she could go any further however, a door suddenly slammed open at the end of the room, surprising everyone present, even Dethl. For in the open doorway was none other than Zant himself. And as the King of Twilight calmly walked into the room, everyone in his path wisely gave him some space. Even in the presence of Mother Night, Zant was an imposing figure, and the amount of dark magic that the Triforce of Power granted him could be felt by the magic-sensitive people around.

He was followed by a pair of his loyal Shadow Beasts (with these two having more silver-coloured faces than the rest) and Ozshen who quickly found a corner to lean against while he listened to what was going on.

When Zant reached the very middle of the room, he looked upon the goddess sitting in her throne before him while bluntly stating "You summoned me."

Dethl flashed him a grin and said "Oh yes, that did happen. You remember those allies we promised you?"

"That is what I'm here for. I was surprised to see Ozshen still alive, and he's been useful to me so far. I don't suppose…"

Dethl cast a glance at the blind Sheikah patiently waiting in the corner before she answered "Ozshen…has other arrangements, but there are two other powerful agents that will help you in your campaign against Hyrule. Wizzro, Veran, you are going to take orders from King Zant until further notice."

Wizzro's eye turned into a mouth with hideous misshaped teeth in it when he scoffed "Phht! Hyahahahahahah! Why would I take orders from a pathetic king wannabe like Zant?! This man's delusions of grandeur exceed that of even the Wizzrobes. I only serve the stronge-"

Before he could rant any more than that, Zant raised his arm towards the twisted wizard, causing Wizzro to shut up as red twilight markings began to glow all over his body while he felt Zant's power induce searing pain straight into his cursed soul.

And after a moment of the torture, Wizzro shouted "Okay, okay, I'll serve you! Just please release…"

And with that, Zant removed his hold over Wizzro and ignored him while he shifted his focus to the other minion he was about to receive.

Seeing his eyes on her (figuratively speaking because of the mask), Veran gracefully approached Zant while swinging her hips in her natural, overly seductive, way and mused "Well, it's been a while since we last met, hasn't it, Zant?"

Zant's helmet collapsed to reveal his face while he answered "About 150 years if I remember correctly. And yet, you still haven't changed at all by the looks of things."

"Well, some people never do, I suppose. Just look at yourself, Zant."

"Charmed. But I can promise you that I have changed. I was a fool when I spearheaded Ganondorf's doomed invasion, and I have learned from both mine and his mistakes. He no longer has any power over me, and that means that he cannot ruin my plans by inducing his own. From now on, I am my own master."

Veran put her arm on Zant's shoulder and glanced at Dethl while asking "Then what about her?"

Zant's face revealed a small grin before his helmet closed itself again and he answered "Our connection…is an alliance, not worship. And you would do well to remember that, Goddess of Darkness!"

Dethl gave out an irritated frown while stating "I do have a great memory, Zant."

Veran could barely contain her excitement over seeing the prideful goddess of the night herself actually get annoyed at someone and began to laugh at the scene.

The sorceress then turned to Zant and asked "So what have you've been up to lately?"

Zant chuckled a little before answering "Living the life of a ghost for more than a hundred years before I gained enough power to resurrect myself. You?"

"Oh me, ah, I was just having some fun here and about. Though there was that one time I possessed a Hylian general and sent an army to nearly exterminate the Gerudos. That week was just delightful!"

The Twinrova sisters nearby overheard what she just said and that prompted Koume to question "You did WHAT?!"

Veran nonchalantly explained "I was feeling bored, so I nearly wiped out your entire race. Got a problem with that?"

That comment only served to infuriate the twin witches to the point where Kotake answered "You bet your skimpy blue bottom we have a problem with it!"

Koume added "And we won't hesitate to burn and freeze you for nearly ruining our plans!"

Veran smugly pointed out "Weren't you two banished from that people? Then consider it a favour of revenge for kicking you out."

Kotake began to curse "You filthy-!"

But was cut off when Dethl raised her voice to say "Enough!" so loud that she instantly silenced the whole room.

And when everyone focused on her again, the goddess of nightmares announced "While your displays of anger are lovely to watch, Her Majesty would prefer if they were focused on our enemies rather than ourselves. They are numerous, and they are resourceful. There is no guarantee that any of you will survive their retaliation for what we are about to do. So from now on, we hold nothing back. Once upon a time we held many different plans that we set into motion one by one every century or so, but now…the Final Era is upon us, and we must use every plan we have if we are to be victorious."

Dethl looked down at Zant and said "Wizzro and Veran will join forces with Zant in his conquest of Hyrule. Does that arrangement suit two you well?"

The way she asked that last question made it perfectly clear that she was not accepting no for an answer, so Wizzro quickly replied "If that is your wish, Your Majesty, I will help him spread death wherever he treads, hyahahahahahah!"

Veran was a bit more modest when she answered "Sure thing, what Zant says…goes."

"Good, then Zant will-"

Before she could give any instructions to him, Zant intervened and declared "I plan my own strategy, thank you very much!"

Dethl could barely grasp the utter nerve Zant had in daring to interrupt her mid-sentence like she was anything other than the Goddess of Darkness herself. And she was sure to let him know "If you so much as dare speak out of line again, I will crush you into oblivion! If we didn't think you would be a valuable ally, you wouldn't even be standing anymore."

But the Twili usurper wasn't deterred in the least and straight out ignored her warnings when he explained "The first step in my plan will be to gather powerful lieutenants, and with Wizzro and Veran at my side, that part is completed. Next, I will gather an army, one worthy of my command. I know just who is capable of giving me such an army. Few know of her existence at all, but I felt her presence during my long slumber, and I intend to bend her power to my will."

The mention of someone like that peeked Wizzro's curiosity and made him ask "So who, pray tell, is that?"

"Her name is Lanacia, the Watcher of Time herself. If her power becomes ours, we can summon forces from all ages of this world and beyond. It will be an army unparalleled by anything any other faction could hope to muster. And with these forces under my control, I will crush Hyrule Castle and bring Zelda to her knees."

"What a wonderful plan, I look forward to seeing it in action, hyahahahaha!"

Dethl added "Very well, not that your plan was much different than ours. Anyway, while Zant focuses on that, the rest of you will have your turns. Vaati's rule over the land has weakened Hyrule's forces significantly, and with the hero no longer being a factor, we have a greater opportunity than ever. However, we must not underestimate them because of that either. Their greatest achievement so far is their new ruler…"

When she mentioned her, Dethl projected a magical image of Zelda in real size for all to see. The sight of the young monarch brought both curious eyes and glares of anger.

"…Queen Zelda. She has the fully realised power of the Light Force, the Master Sword itself and not just one, but two pieces of the Triforce. She has slain several of the greater beasts that Vaati sent after her, crawled her way out of the Shadow Temple, and defeated both Demon Lord Ghirahim and Vaati the Wind Mage. She is the one among them who has the greatest chance of stopping us, but not the only one."

The Shadow Master asked "Who else could possibly oppose us?" in his usual extremely calm voice.

"Lately, we have sensed the powers of destiny at work. And it is clear that the Seven Sages are about to awaken again. Though the new sages are not yet identified, they will no doubt pose a problem in the near future. Shadow Master, you are going to use your contacts in the market to identify the people who had been blessed by destiny."

The shady Minish nonchalantly fiddled with a lock of his long hair while saying "Of course. Shouldn't be…too difficult. I'll have names and faces of all the sages long before the accursed light beings do, and that's a promise, Your Majesty."

"As for when the sages are identified, Ozshen will find and subdue them. If we can catch them alive, then we can use their power for ourselves. But until the Seven Sages' identities are known, he will serve the role of our messenger, one who will spread our ideas to all who are worthy."

The half-dead Sheikah gave a respectful bow and said "Your wish is my command, Mother Night."

"Blind the Thief…" Dethl began, catching the attention of the undead bandit "…our enemies may find valuable artefacts that might give them an edge against us. You are going to make sure that they don't."

Blind began to rub his claws together while realising "So…you want me to steal them from their greedy little hands?"

"Precisely, and there are also a few other things you can stop by for once you're out and about. With the Accursed Sword destroyed and Ghirahim no longer under our control, we need a new advantage over the side of light. Scour the remains of the Palace of Winds. It is possible that the Dark Mirror may yet be intact among the rubble. With it in our possession, we can create endlessly regenerating armies of living shadows at our disposal. And that's not all…"

Dethl then summoned the Fierce Deity Mask into her hand, the same mask that had passed through so many people so far, and was about to switch hands yet again.

While she magically floated the mask to come to Blind, she said "We're leaving this in your care, Blind. Make sure no one gets a chance to use it against us. And for darkness sake don't put it on unless otherwise instructed."

Blind the Thief rather savagely snatched the mask out of the air and looked at it curiously while whispering "Pretty mask…pretty…pretty mask…" before he got a hold of himself and said "Of course, Your Majesty, I will keep this well hidden!"

With the extremely powerful mask placed somewhere safe, Dethl looked down to Chancellor Cole and ordered "Chancellor Cole, unlike us, the land of Hyrule is essentially run by their influx of their prized rupees, and the kingdom would need substantial funding to train and arm an entire army. But if their rupees could be focused on pointless and trivial things instead, they won't even be able to afford the resources necessary to pose much of a threat."

The mischievous demon began to twirl his moustache sinisterly while saying "Your Majesty, that's a wonderful idea, and one I can use for something spectacular! Yes, all I have to do is to sign a few autographs and these lowly humans will find themselves bankrupt within the month. It's so diabolical, I love it, nyehee-hee-hee-hee!" His voice was very posh and made it obvious that he held a certain superiority complex.

With a mischievous glint in her eyes, Dethl then turned to the Twinrova sisters and said "However, what plan is complete without backups? Twinrova, we believe it might be time for an old friend to return."

The elderly witches began to pick up on her meaning and both were left staring at her incredulously while Kotake stuttered "Are you saying…?"

"Yes, it is time for a new incarnation of Demise to be reborn yet again, a new Ganon to walk the world again. For if all our plans fail, we want to insult this land by cursing them with the presence of their most feared and hated nemesis. A suitable foster mother for him has already presented herself to us."

The Twinrova sisters got very excited looks on their faces when Koume asked "And who could that be?"

"The queen you overthrew, the same pestilence who helped Zelda on her journey. She is, in fact, pregnant. Even more, she is of the same bloodline as the original Ganondorf, and has inherited the same hatred that Demise once wielded. It is now your duty to capture this…Aveil and infuse Demise's spirit with her soul, and in doing so, her child will be born as the new Ganondorf. And like the last times you did that, you two will raise him to become an enemy of Hyrule once more."

Both the Twinrova sisters began to smile evilly while Koume answered "Hee-hee-hee-hee-hee, Will be fun. Right, Kotake?" while her sister agreed "Oh yes, Koume, hohohoho!"

With all the instructions given to her minions, Dethl rose from her throne and struck a pose that showed her pride and superiority while standing in mid-air. Her throne floating back into the room it came from in the meantime.

And as she looked down upon her many allies below, she concluded "With every one of you knowing what to do, let's call this meeting finished. Now, let's hear your loyalty!"

On cue, all the hooded figures and all of the major villains aside from Zant simultaneously chanted "BY OUR GODDESS, WE WILL MAKE THE NIGHT ETERNAL! BY HER WILL, WE WILL LAY THE WORLD TO WASTE! BY HER SHADOW, WE WILL MAKE HYRULE FALL! BY THE WORD OF MOTHER NIGHT, HYLIA AND HER PEOPLE WILL DIE!"

Dethl had the final word when she finished "And the night will never end…"

Author Notes

The Black Triforce is basically a combination of the 'Legion of Doom' and 'Religion of Evil' tropes, a shadowy organisation that has manipulated Hyrule behind the scenes for generations and Dethl's most prominent base of influence. They are united in their belief that the Triforce should be used to bring about a night that would never end. Why they want this may vary, but the Black Triforce mostly attracts users of black magic and other enemies of Hyrule.

Zant is connected to them mostly for his own benefit even though he has a similar belief himself. Still, his power-hungry side and extreme form of overconfidence makes him loath taking instructions from anyone and is more of a rival than an ally to Dethl.

Veran doesn't really care much about the end goal, but she loves war and conflict and supports the Black Triforce due to their less than peaceful intentions for Hyrule. But…she does have an agenda of her own, and she may not want her allies to actually win.

Wizzro is extremely ambitious and pragmatic and usually only serves those he considers the strongest there is. But…if he then meets someone who is even stronger than his current master, he will betray them and switch side in a heartbeat. His primary motivation though is simply to be allowed to kill as many people as possible to satisfy his sadistic needs.

Ozshen is a man who has been so disconnected from his old life that he simply wants the world to go down with him. He hates Hyrule and everything that it stands for, but not nearly as much as he hates himself. And after enduring years of unrelenting nightmares chastising him for his failure as a Sheikah, he has lost the will to live, and now only wants to finish his mission so he can rest in peace.

The Twinrova Sisters are basically stuck in a deal with the devil with Dethl, where she keeps them from aging to death in return for doing everything she tells them to do. However, they have also grown attached to Ganondorf during their tenures as his 'mothers', and will be more than willing to help him bring the world into ruin if it makes him happy.

Chancellor Cole is a highly devoted servant to Dethl, and sees her as a messiah of sorts. Unlike many other demons though, Cole prefers a more refined touch to his plans and likes to position himself in favourable positions before revealing his true nature and intentions. His expertise also extends to areas other demons would rather not endure, for example economics, politics and blackmail.

The Shadow Master is a mystery to most, though what is known is that he is a devout believer in Dethl's promise of the eternal night. He apparently despises the sun so much that he refuses to ever leave his sanctuary in Darkwood under any circumstances. He also prefers to not show his face when dealing with people, if that is so people can take him seriously or because he prefers to keep his identity anonymous, nobody knows.

Blind the Thief is on the Black Triforce's side because he considers them the winning side. He himself is significantly less powerful then most of his allies, but the thing that makes him such a valuable asset is his capacity for thievery. He has stolen thousands of valuable artefacts throughout Hyrule without most people even knowing he was ever there, and his ability to take the form of other people makes him able to fool almost everyone…as long as he stays away from direct sunlight.

Dethl sees all of these people as merely pawns in a larger game, one she has been playing for a very long time. Though her goal of eternal night is clear, her reasons for wanting it and how she is going to go about doing so is not.

Now, how did I come up with these characters you may wonder? Well, I can say that some of them made more sense than others. I did have some criteria when I picked these choices, and the most important one would be that it made sense for them to work for the Black Triforce. So some villains like Majora, Bellum and Vaati just didn't fit in. Zant himself is still mostly working on his own, and that was to make him feel like a separate threat than the rest. The strangest choice for which villains would be in it was definitively Blind the Thief, as he wasn't anything more than a dungeon boss. But…the appearance of Stalblind in a Link Between Worlds did make him feel like he could become an active villain…albeit a relatively weak one.

Question: Wait, is this the ending?!

Answer: Yes and no.

Yes in that it is the last chapter in the story, and no in that the actual ending was actually the previous chapter. This is more of a prelude to all the future projects I might bring myself to write later.

The stories that I have planned at the moment are:

The Queen of Thieves:The story of how Aveil was first betrayed by the Twinrova sisters, and later her quest to avenge her wife's death while trying to prevent both Ganon and Bellum from coming back to life. It will be more of a pirate-themed story overall.

Cycle of Darkness: A kind of origin story to most of the major villains in the series while prominently featuring this continuity's version of Dethl pulling the strings. This one might get a bit dark at times, but I'm not sure if I should give it an M rating or not.

Queen Zelda's Diary (working title so far): A more slice of life continuation to this story dealing with how Zelda copes with the life of being a queen and also some additional development for numerous other characters that didn't really get their time to shine. This one is less adventury and more light-hearted than the others. However, there are some villains and conflicts in it as well.

The Black Triforce: Five years after the events of 'the Accursed Sword', Zant and the Black Triforce decide to turn Hyrule into a war zone, prompting Zelda to gather the Seven Sages from all corners of the land in order to defeat Dethl and her allies once and for all. This is the big finale, and will resolve all the plot threads I had left in this universe.

Probably, these stories won't get nearly as long as this one was. And at least two of them can be read without having to read this one first. Though they are all part of the same universe and will make references to each other at times. So if you liked this one, you might like them as well.

This is Flufux, signing off for now.
