The penultimate chapter has arrived. sorry for the delay
Kin stood on the stage staring out into the audience. He watched the crowd nervously then turned his attention to the girl across the stage, his secret girlfriend Kim. She was looking at him with a similar expression.
A couple months ago they would fight each other to the death in a heartbeat...but now...it just seemed wrong. They had grown to love each other despite their rivalry, sure they still argued, but deep down neither can deny their feelings.
The principal came up onstage with a microphone "Students of Elementary High!" she adressed the crowd "It is time for the tie breaker challenge! These two keyboardists will go head to head on the narrow walkway using their keyboards as swords and do a fencing match, due to the amount of lava below them they do not need to play their instruments."
Mina sat up in the stands and thought out loud "What does any of this have to do with picking a band? This seems a little overkill."
Grojband stood backstage cheering on their bandmate "Go Kin!" "You can probably do it!" "No pressure!", The Newmans stood on the opposite end encouraging Kim "Dont lose!" "We believe in you!" "Knock his stupid head off!"
"My head is not stupid!" Kin yelled back.
The buzz sounded meaning it was time to fight. Each walked carefully on the narrow platform as they slowly made their way to the center. They reached each other after a minute and began swinging their keyboards.
The crowd watched in anticipation while their bandmates watched in worry. Laney looked at the platform that was holding them and studied it "Something wrong Lanes?" Corey asked "I dont think this challenge is very safe. I mean besides the hot lava, where did they even get that!?" Laney questioned out loud. The Newmans came up beside them a moment later "Hey guys, Larry noticed something." Konnie told Grojband, Larry came forward "I'll make this quick. The nails that are holding the walkway up, are melting."
Back on top, Kin and Kim duked it out with all their might. They could see the other was hurt by this, but they couldnt stop. A hissing sound came from the left side on the platform and Kim looked back to see the source, a nail that was ready to be melted. "Kin! The nails!" Kim shouted out, Kin followed her gaze to see the same thing happening on the right side as well.
Corey looked at them in worry "But if they melt wont it still stay up?!" he asked the others. Larry bit his lip and answered "Normally yes, but at the current heat they could-"
WHOOSH! Both ends of the platform erupted in flames.
"-catch fire." Larry finished. Grojband and The Newmans watched their friends with fear "Kin!" "Kim!" the guitarists yelled.
Kin and Kim jumped at the sudden flames and moved closer together, Kim threw her keyboard off to the ground and Kin did the same. They didnt need to extra weight on the crumbling platform. "Kin! Got any ideas?! I'm blank!" Kim spoke with urgency "I got nothing! This walkway is about to break and when it does..." "We'll be burnt toast."
The students watched and some ran away screaming. The principal stared in horror and yelled "Why did I ever use lava for this!? Oh right, I wanted to use up my coupon for Volcano Barney's danger expo."
The platform shook a bit, knocking Kim over "Kim!" Kin screamed her name as he grabbed her hand. She hung there a few feet from the lava, Kin tried to pull her up put the platform was too unstable. The others watched and brainstormed ideas "We could get an elephant and he could use his nose to spray water on the fire!" Kon suggested "Lava cant be put out! It can cool though!" Larry told him. "Little short on water guys!" Laney reminded them. Corey and Carrie watched their friends in sadness "This...this is all our fault." Corey sighed sadly "For once Riffin, I agree." Carrie turned away as she grabbed her hat in sadness. "I never fought something like this would ever happen during one of our battles...it never crossed my mind that someone could die." she said with remorse.
Kim's hand was slipping out of Kin's grasp, both knew they wouldn't last long. Konnie stared at her sister and frantically searched for ideas. Her eyes landed upon the trampolines from her challenge and her eyes lit up with inspiration "Guys!" she called getting the attention of the others "The trampolines!" everyone knew exactly what she meant and hurried to get them close to the stage.
The walkway lurched a bit as Kin lost some of his footing. Kim stared into his eyes and could see the fear reflected in them, the same fear she held. "Kin...if we die, I just want you to know...that I'll always love you." she quietly told him. Kin tightened his grip on her hands and replied "Me too Kim, I love you too..."
"Kin, Kim!" The keyboardists looked behind them to see their friends with a trampoline out in front of the stage. Kin saw this and began swinging Kim with his arm "Kin, what are you-" she wondered before being thrown forward and colliding with the trampoline. Konnie came over and hugged her sister "Kim! Your alive!" "But what about Kin!?" Kim shouted. Carrie grabbed a wire hanging from the ceiling "I'm on it!"
The platform was moments away from crumbling as Kin took one last look at his secret girlfriend. He gulped to himself and braced for the fall.
The walkway broke.
Kin began to fall as he screamed like a little girl. Inches before he hit the lava, he felt something grab his waist and move him out of the way. He opened his eyes and saw Carrie carrying him while swinging from the wire. "Carrie!?" he gasped in shock.
She planted her feet against the wall and propelled her self back to the others and over the lava again, which Kin continued to scream like a girl "Stop being a Larry about it!" she told him.
Carrie let go of the wire and landed safely in front of the bands. It took Kin a moment to stop screaming and realize he was on the ground. "Floor! Sweet floor!" he cheered and happily kissed the floor. "Kin!" Kim shouted happily as she ran over and embraced him, tears were welling up in her eyes. Kin hugged her back with tears in his own eyes "I thought I you were gonna die!" Kim cried "Eh, death is overrated." he shrugged.
They pulled apart and gazed happily into each others eyes. A cough reminded them that their friends were watching and they blushed before facing them. The couple nodded to each other, knowing what needed to be said "Guys...I...I don't wanna fight anymore..." Kin started "The truth is...we...well...we love each other." Kim finished for him.
The guitarists and the bassists jaws dropped in shock, the drummers however just looked to each other and nodded as well "Me and Konnie too!" Kon stepped forward to announce "We also fell in love!" Konnie held his hand and leaned into him.
Laney and Larry gave a soft smile to the couples, before casting a hopeful glance to their blue haired leaders. Corey and Carrie took this in for a moment...and smiled "Well...we can't interfere with true love." Corey shrugged "If you guys really feel this way, then who are to stop you." Carrie agreed.
Both sets of twins happily ran up and hugged their band leaders. Laney and Larry fist bumped in joy. The twins let go of their band leaders as they stood opposite to each other "Be-...Carrie. The two of us may hate each others guts. But if our friends get along, then I can call a truce." Corey held out his hand "We're still rivals." Carrie crossed her arms and looked away "...but...we can be friendly rivals...Corey." she lightened up and shook his hand.
It was official, Grojband and The Newmans were friends.
"Wait! What about the dance?" Larry reminded them. Corey and Carrie looked at each other "Mash up?" Corey asked "Sounds good." Carrie agreed.
Next Chapter is the last.
