Nurse Emma Roberts leaned in the doorway of Tony's room. He had to see Brad every six months or anything he was hospitalized. She on the other hand hadn't seen him in two and a half years. Not since he was hospitalized after his undercover attack. She had still been Emma Ingham back then. She had been married to Officer Mark Roberts for twenty-one months now and was just over five months along with her first child. She had been looking forward to seeing Tony again so she could tell him he was being treated by Brad Pitt and Emma Roberts. Not like this though not with him so sick. He was completely dependent on a ventilator and so fragile and old-looking.
"He's fighting he really is. This latest crisis just took a lot out of him." Dr. Pitt assured placing his hand on her shoulder.
"I know it's just I hoped we'd never have to see him this sick again." Emma replied.
"I was hoping for that too and he went eight years post the plague without becoming too bad off. That's a lot better than I thought he'd be." Dr. Pitt explained.
"I gu..." Emma started before she started flailing her nostrils.
"What's wrong?" Dr. Pitt asked.
"Do you smell smoke?" Emma asked.
"Dr. Peters must've burned his midnight popcorn again." Dr. Pitt joked.
*BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP! ARRRRRRR! IRRRRRRRR!*
"Oh My God! Oh My God!" Emma cried.
"It'll be okay. You just get out. Don't risk your baby just get out." Dr. Pitt ordered.
"But" Emma replied.
"JUST GO!" Dr. Pitt demanded.
The next few minutes were utter bedlam. Brad raced into Tony's room. He was glad to be closest to the man. He was his friend and he needed to save him. He unhooked Tony from all his machines and flung him over his shoulder. It was too risky to carry even an oxygen tank through the flames. There would be ventilators in the ambulances and emergency crews had already been contacted. Brad just prayed his friend would last long enough to get that help. When he got to the stairs he started to realize that this may just be a waste of time. They were only on the third floor but that was a long way to carry a full-grown man. Just as he was about to leave his friend to die. His football strength kicked in and Tony was nearly weightless.
"Come on Buckeye don't do die on me. Please that Marine scares the crap out of me." Brad begged.
Brad ran down the stairs as fast as his legs would carry him. People were shoving past and screaming but Brad was just picturing himself back in his high school and college days out on the football field. Brad was just about to turn on to the first floor. When there was a sickening crack. He looked up and saw the ceiling was about to collapse. Within seconds he was lying on his back on the first floor landing and Tony was pinned underneath a beam. Brad jumped up and started to run back for him.
"Don't bother! The firemen can get him out! Just go!" Dr. Peters demanded.
Just Tony's luck he picked the shittiest time humanly possible to wake up and start breathing again. He was pinned under a beam and people were shoving past and kicking him. Luckily consciousness didn't last long for him. He coughed out a little more blood and then was back in the darkness.
Gibbs gripped the steering wheel so tightly that his knuckles were white. He was furious how could the SecNav do something so evil? To attempt to murder two innocent children and a federal agent. He was so lost in his thought the sound of McGee's cell ringing caused him to jump.
"Yeah this is Agent McGee."
"No Boss is driving."
"WHAT?!"
"Are Tony and Ziva alright?"
"Ye...Yeah I'll tell him."
"Thanks Director."
"What's wrong McGee?" Gibbs asked.
"B...Boss there's a situation." McGee sighed.
"WHAT?!" Gibbs demanded.
"There's been a fire at Bethesda. Ziva was evacuated safely and transported to the DC Burn and Trauma Center but Tony. Well they transported him there too but... he was pinned under a beam. He has third and forth degree burns and well that's the least of his problems." McGee explained,
"What? N...No..." Gibbs stammered.
"Do you want me to go to the hospital?" McGee asked.
"No I want to bring that son of a bitch in." Gibbs replied coldly.
Gibbs slammed hard on the brakes in front of Jarvis's house. McGee lurched forward and crashed into the dashboard a little. He winced but quickly regained his cool and got out of the car behind Gibbs. The two men walked up the driveway. Gibbs started to pound on the door. He felt bad because he knew that Clayton had young children. Who were trying to sleep but he wanted to deal with that bastard.
"Agents Gibbs and McGee?" Cindy asked opening the door.
"Where's Clayton?" Gibbs demanded.
"He went out for a drive a couple of hours ago. Said he couldn't sleep. I was actually about to call the police when you showed up." Cindy explained.
"Did he take his cellphone with him?" Gibbs asked.
"No I heard it ring a while ago." Cindy replied.
"Which car did he take?" Gibbs asked.
"His Cadillac I think." Cindy replied.
"Do you know the license plate number?" McGee asked.
"Oh there he is now. Thank God." Cindy replied.
Jarvis pulled into his driveway. He was home free. He had started his fire at Bethesda and been careful not to leave any trace of him. He had brought his gas cans home with him and was planning on destroying them. Just to be on the safe side. By the time they realized it was him if ever. Gibbs would have fallen completely apart. Sure he'd go to jail but he would have had his vengeance. He smiled as he climbed out of his car. His smile quickly disappeared though. When he saw Agents Gibbs and McGee walking towards him.
"Clayton Jarvis you are under arrest for the attempted murders of Special Agent Anthony Gibbs and Jared and Kayla Vance." Gibbs said as he cuffed the SecNav.
"Clayton what's going on?" Cindy asked.
"You guys are crazy. When I went out for my drive that was my first time being out all day." Jarvis replied.
"How did you know when the attacks occurred?" Gibbs asked.
"Just guessing." Jarvis replied.
"Yeah sure." Gibbs argued.
"How do you even have any idea it was me?" Jarvis asked.
"Agent McGee found your dog tags under Agent Tony's hospital bed." Gibbs explained.
"I was visiting him." Jarvis argued.
"The only people permitted to see Agent Tony are myself, Agent McGee here, Abby Scuito, Dr. Donald Mallard, Director Leon Vance, and Jimmy Palmer." Gibbs replied.
"Well I..." Jarvis replied.
"Clayton what the hell?" Cindy asked.
"It's nothing!" Jarvis yelled.
"Why do you smell like gasoline?" Gibbs demanded.
"I uh when I was on my drive I ran into a man who was out of gas. He was stranded and just wanted to get back to his kids. So I came home and got the gas cans to help him out. That's why I was gone so long." Jarvis lied.
"No Clayton you never came home. I waited for you. In the garage." Cindy replied.
"You must have gone into the bathroom and just forgot about it." Jarvis argued.
"No I was in there the whole two and a half hours." Cindy replied.
"Yeah this is Agent McGee."
"Yes we are in the middle of wrapping another case but we'd be interested in helping with this one."
"You do? Already? How? Who?"
"Oh really?"
"We were actually busting him for earlier attacks on our team."
"Yeah Bye"
"Clayton?" Cindy squeaked.
"What the hell's happening McGee?" Gibbs asked.
"Bethesda has footage of Jarvis starting the fire on their external security cameras. Thank God they have recorders built-in the poll." McGee explained.
"You officially under arrest for arson and at least three counts of attempted murder. You have the right to remain silent anything you say can and will be held against you in a court of law. You have the right to consult with an attorney. If you can not afford an attorney one will be appointed to you." Gibbs informed Jarvis.
"No it's somebody who looks like me." Jarvis pleaded as Gibbs drug him to the charger.
Gibbs slammed the door to the interrogation room. He just wanted to take that bastard down and get to his son. If he missed the end of Tony's life because of this bastard. Prison would actually be the better option. McGee and Vance were watching on the other side of the glass. He walked over to the table and slammed his hands down on it as hard as he could.
"What the hell?" Jarvis asked.
"I could ask you the same thing!" Gibbs yelled.
"What's it to you?" Jarvis taunted.
"You wanted my son dead! WHY?!" Gibbs demanded.
"Because I wanted you to know how I feel." Jarvis replied.
"What the hell do you mean?!" Gibbs demanded slamming his hands down again.
"Pedro Hernandez was my best friend and you murdered him!" Jarvis cried.
"How did you even know him?!" Gibbs barked.
"I was twelve years old and my step dad had just died. My mom was in such a depression she could barely get out of bed and my dad. Well my dad was a drunk who knocked me senseless. So my sister who was twenty-two took me along on a Mission Trip down to Mexico. I was out exploring one day and I met Pedro he was six months younger than me and had the same pain. We were instant best friends and we were close until. Until the day you savagely murdered him! For your own damn benefit!" Jarvis explained.
"He murdered my wife and little girl in cold blood!" Gibbs yelled.
"They probably had it coming! Just like that worthless man-child Tony." Jarvis argued.
"THAT'S IT!" Gibbs yelled slapping Jarvis so hard across the face he fell out of the chair.
Jarvis sat on the ground and rubbed his cheek stunned. Gibbs stormed out of interrogation letting the door slam behind him on the way out. Tears were pouring down his cheeks. That man had probably taken Tony from him. Though maybe he could at least hold him as he said goodbye to his son. Vance exited the observation room and walked into the actual interrogation room.
"I was informed of the attack on Palmer so you have assault, our lab confirms that you slashed Miss. Scuito's brakes and now four counts of accessory to murder." Vance explained.
"So I can get off of that." Jarvis snaked.
"You're forgetting the arson. Eighty seven people died in that fire including thirteen children and sixty-five more are critical. You are going away for life." Vance shot back.
"Come on Leon I thought you were my friend." Jarvis replied.
"Friends don't shoot at friends children." Vance replied.
Gibbs was in a fog as he walked into Monroe University hospital. Tony had been transferred there rather than DC Burn and Trauma. Ziva was still and DC B and T however due to her traumatic injuries from the explosion. Tony had been taken to Monroe because of the seriousness of his condition. Things were chaotic from all the critical Bethesda patients who were transferred there. The facility was at full capacity. He got Tony's room number in the ICU from the receptionist and rode the elevator up to that floor. He saw Dr. Pitt outside Tony's room. Gibbs could tell that the younger man had been crying.
"Dr. Pitt what's wrong?" Gibbs asked.
"I'm sorry Agent Gibbs." Dr. Pitt replied voice cracking.
A/N: Is Tony dead or just severely injured and ill? At least Jarvis is in custody. New chapter Monday. Please review and thanks for reading.
