Warning: a little bit of blood
Venipede - the Centipede pokemon
Most of the bug types can fly. They are able to soar through the skies, though somehow they like to be closer to the ground. They like hovering over plants, flowers and don't really get out into the open. Well, it's understandable - they would be easy prey for the flying types. But I know I wouldn't be. My poison is strong enough to paralyze even the largest predators but yet, it doesn't matter how strong I get - I will never feel the wind under my wings or travel great distances, maybe even over oceans, to other regions.
I will never have wings and everyone tells me to just accept the fact. But I'm just not able to. Unimaginable jealousy boils in me as I see other flying pokemon. I just want to rip away their wings and use them myself... But even though we Venipedes are aggressive since birth, I never started a fight because of wings. Though every time I want to.
I start off my days by getting to the edge of the highest cliff near my cave and gaze at the sunrise. Sometimes I get up even earlier than bird pokemon and greet the sun... though it should be their job. It just proves to show how I deserve the wings more than they do. They are supposed to sing and fly as close to the sun as possible, celebrating the new day, but they get lazier and lazier and ultimately just wake up when the sun fully rises. At least one creature greets the sun properly. A poisonous, wingless female with no other wish but to fly.
...Well fine fine. I have to greet the sun not by my own will. If I wasn't grounded for a month, I'd still be sleeping, curled up comfortably in my room. I got in trouble for eating all of our families Payapa berry resources. I just couldn't find any other berries and was starving... while my family was out gathering berries. I needed to wait just one more hour without eating and I would have been punishment free. But what's done is done. My mother knew how much I love sleeping, so she took that away.
*yawn* Still the sun is pretty when it rises. It keeps changing color and dying the sky. I guess there's at least this one good thing about not being able to sleep.
A poisonous needle shot towards the sun. I train like this and try to launch my needles as far as possible, but it just passes about five trees that grow at the lower level valley and completely falls down. This time I hit something and a painful screech filled the sky, startling the nearby small flying types that immediately took off as far and high as possible... Lucky.
"Who the hell shot that?!" an intimidating growl came from the valley and the pokemon started running around like crazy, or at least the shimmering made me think that. A furious, but poisoned creature. Our family has amazing venom. All of our foes get poisoned, if we are able to pierce their skin with our poison type moves. "Ugh... Don't feel so good... Whoever did this to me will dearly pay!" the creature shouted one more time and reached his limit. The poison finished him off. It's so easy to fight for me. I never even saw the poor soul.
Well, one pokemon down in the morning is quite enough. My practice is done and the sun will soon fully rise. When it does, I will be allowed to go back home and will have to do whatever floats my parents' boat. Usually easy tasks await me. My big sister always gets the harder jobs cause she's a Whirlipede already.
The little bird pokemon that flew off before were slowly coming back and probably landing all around the now too poisoned to move pokemon. Probably at least one of them will know healing moves and will help the poor guy. If not... then he'll suffer today, until the poison digests or fades away. It was a small dose after all.
Oh well. This was his unlucky day... or rather morning.
The sun was up and I could get out of there. I still felt sleepy, but I knew I won't be let to take a quick nap. Hoped I'll be able to take one after I've done my duties, though.
"How's the weather?" mom asked as I entered our cave.
"Clear. Only minor clouds here and there," I responded... I really didn't pay much attention to anything but the sun, but I think there weren't big clouds... I hope.
"Alright. Seems like a good day to go foraging for berries. Go with your sister," mom said like it was no big deal.
But it was! This was my first time going away from home such a distance to forage the berries in specific places. I felt both happy and scared. My usefulness has been acknowledged... but what if I get lost. My sister can move much faster than me and she will definitely not wait up for me, if I fall behind. This will be a tiresome day.
"Eat up and let's get moving, Venia" my sis, Venama, growled at me as she was already ready to go and wanted the day she's supposed to spend with me to be over quicker.
"Yeah, yeah," I quickly chowed down on some Oran berries and ran out of the cave. "Ready," I proclaimed with a smirk. Bet she didn't think I'd be that fast, hehe.
"...Idiot," she sighed. "You forgot the basket," she got one of her horns to snag the basket's handle and threw it straight at me.
"That hurt!" I yelled, as the basket almost knocked me over... Well it didn't hurt that much, but I still yelled.
"Not my problem," Venama rolled out of the cave at incredible speed. "Put it on your back and go," she rode off to the distance.
...Yeah... it will be a tiresome day.
I'm glad the basket was empty, because most of the time, we need to go up hill. Venama periodically came back to check on me, but rolled away again every time. At least she didn't say I'm slow or something... Well she stayed quiet and just used that judging look of hers... Hate it.
There were so many bug types around and the ones that had wings kept on flying around me, as if they were teasing me! ...Well I might have imagined that, but there were truly many buzzing pokemon around. They were so much faster than me, maybe even than Venama that kept ignoring me.
But finally she spoke when she came back one more time. "Half way there."
"H-half! We've been going up this hill for at least three hours and it's only half?!" I became frustrated. Wanted to just throw the basket on my back away and pierce it with my needles.
"...This is a mountain," she said, like that statement had to completely erase my frustration and make me understand that because it's a mountain - I can't complain.
Venama started to spin once again and went up the mountain... again. Ugh! Why can't she stay with me and not make me feel so pathetic?
But as the mountain got steeper, Venama started having problems rolling on it and, as I came close enough, I noticed her trying to get higher, but rolling down every time. Finally she decided to give it all she's got and rolled at an amazing speed... but that just made her lose control and start rolling backwards, not being able to stop herself.
"Venama!" I shouted, a little concerned... But I've got to admit I was happy too. Her wings have been clipped... A figure of speech.
*crash*
"Ugh...I don't feel so good," a rather familiar male voice came from where Venama should have stopped. "P-poisoned? Again?!" the pokemon shouted once more. I wonder if he really is the same one that got hit by my Poison Sting... and I wonder if he learned not to move too much when poison is surging through his veins.
Still, I couldn't stop my giggling, as I went down to my sis. It was so amusing to me. The frustration of both of them.
"My horn!" now Venama screamed. "It broke! I can't believe it!" her screams got louder and louder and I even started worrying as I rushed down. Does it hurt when your horn snaps? Don't know, but they are pretty sensitive...
"Serves you... right," the poisoned pokemon breathed deeply. He was in pain as well. His face started turning purplish.
Finally I saw both of them. A round pokemon, with a few shades of grey and red rings, trying to get up from her lying position and an orange, poisoned canine with cream-colored tuft and black stripes on its back, trying to stand.
And a broken off horn next to the Growlithe. A big wound on his side, near the rear legs. It was bleeding, but not too much... I hate blood. It makes me feel weak.
Both of them heard me and caught my staring at the wound. Didn't seem like they noticed it before and kind of freaked out. Well, Venama jolted back and the Growlithe gave up on trying to stand. His legs just trembled, maybe out of fear, and made him fall.
"That Audino is far from here. She won't be able to use Refresh on me," the fire type started talking to himself. At first he seemed calm but gradually started panicking "And this wound... I don't think a move can erase it. I need to bandage it, but I don't have anything. W-what will I do?" he started getting up again, but his legs were out. Then he looked at my sis. "It's your fault. Fix it!" he growled loudly.
"Hmpf. Serves you right," Venama completely got up by herself. I honestly thought I'd have to help her, but she would definitely be too proud to accept my help. "We are both damaged and there is no way you can help me, so I will not help you," my sis decided. She withstood the pain and acted as always. Though her face changed on occasions, like she wanted to cringe from pain, but couldn't, to not seem weak.
I walked up to the torn off horn and got it in the basket and onto my back. "Mom will know what to do when we get back," I decided and Venama sighed.
"Yeah. We need to get back on track or we'll have to spend the night here," she agreed and started spinning, but immediately fell on the left side, without a horn. She can't spin with only one horn. "Damn it," she groaned and slowly got back up again. "It seems I'll have to walk... How hard can it be?"
My sis always rolled around everywhere. I wonder if she even knew how to walk properly with those little legs, or rather barbs. At least now I will be the faster one.
"Hey! What about me?! You can't just leave me here!" the poisoned puppy pokemon started whining. Because he didn't move a lot this time, he was still conscious.
"What about you? We aren't responsible for you. Figure something out yourself," Venama buzzed without even looking back.
"This is what I get for trying to get revenge," he whined again. "Got poisoned in the morning, but healed by an Audino and figured I'd go here and find the poison type who poisoned me. But ended up getting poisoned again and even wounded... Well I should have expected the poison, but this?!" he looked at his wound and felt weaker. Just like I get weaker from the sight of blood. "...Please, help me," the Growlithe swallowed his pride and begged. Though I wonder how he ended up so far from the cliff I was on when I hit him... Was he completely lost?
The slow Whirlipede stopped and looked back. I stopped as well and tried to figure out what we could actually do. There were plenty of bug types around, but most of the healing moves are executed by normal types and none of them were here. So what could we do? Go and try to find a normal type that might have a healing move?
But we didn't have to think for much longer, as a Leavanny started walking past us, but looked down at the wounded pokemon.
"Oh, dear! You need to bandage that wound!" she exclaimed. "I'll help you," she ripped away some of the leaves one the branch above the Growlithe and started working on a bandage. She quickly started pressing leaves to the fire type's wound and sewing them together.
Ultimately the bandage seemed like... leafy shorts on the Growlithe. His blood was still coming out and dyeing the green leaves red, but the blood stream was obviously weakening.
"Thank you so much," the Growlithe breathed easier.
"No problem. I love helping pokemon in need," the Leavanny smiled warmly. "I have to go now. I hope that when we meet again you will be healthy," she giggled, waved and left the bandaged, but still poisoned fire type.
"...So you're bandaged and we don't have moves to heal you, so we'll go," Venama decided and continued the journey on her small barbs, rather weirdly jumping.
"Bye," I didn't know what else to say. The Growlithe was using puppy eyes and trying to stop us, but I didn't have the slightest wish to stay... Especially if he'd find out I poisoned him in the morning. Then he'd hate both Venama and me.
I don't really care for hate, but I noticed quite a few pokemon don't like me. Probably because I poison them on touch or by accident with my distance practice. Venama has quite a few enemies as well. Our whole family is dangerous and rather disliked, but we don't care. If someone doesn't like us and wants us to move for example, that someone gets really badly poisoned and never sets foot near us again.
"...We'll check on him after we gathered the berries," Venama murmured. It seemed she really was feeling guilty. I was feeling guilty a little too.
As we held on tightly to the ground bellow us, we managed to climb the steep part Venama kept on trying to roll over, but always rolled backwards. She was clearly embarrassed that it was so easy, though a little slow, to climb it this way. If she would have climbed from the start, she'd probably still have her horn.
The rest of the journey up went rather smoothly. The path wasn't too steep and it was easy to walk, but pokemon around us sent weird sneers towards Venama. I wonder why they acted that way? Did they fight? Well, Venama pretended that she's not seeing those sneers and just looked up, all snooty and mighty.
But I was too curious "Why are they look–"
"No need to know," she cut me off. "Jealous and nothing more."
"Jealo–"
"Yes. Now zip it," she cut me off again and seemed rather irritated.
I growled but let is slide. Maybe my parents will tell me what's the deal with this when I get back home.
And finally we reached the peak of the tall hill or short mountain, or whatever I should call it, and saw the berry trees that we needed. Occa and Coba berry trees. To decrease the effectiveness of fire and flying type moves... Though I don't know why do we need those. My family doesn't fight... Or at least I don't see them doing that. And I just train...
Well, but if we need those berries, then we'll take them. Luckily the trees weren't very tall, but I still had to climb in and bite off the stalks connecting the branch to the berries. Over ten Occa berries fell, I'm sure. Venama had to make sure the basket was right bellow the falling berries and she actually caught them all. I even tried going around faster, but she kept on catching them. The same result was with the Coba berries... Dang it.
"We have all we need, but it will be harder to carry a full basket," Venama understood and looked around. "We'll need to find the most gradual paths we can."
I nodded, being a little squished by the weight of the berries in the basket. But just a little. Would be nice if I had vines and could strap down the basket or carry it above my head. But the only thing keeping the basket on my back was the String Shot that was used by our neighbor Ariados that made the whole bottom of the basket sticky. When we have berries to spare, we bring them to him and he uses String Shot on all of our baskets.
After about an hour we got to the steep part we climbed on our journey up. Growlithe should be near too. I couldn't help but wonder if he's alright.
But we couldn't go down fast and had to walk around quite much to find a more gradual path. But after a half an hour, we got down and both went straight to the Growlithe. I was surprised Venama really wanted to check on him too.
The fire type was still there, lying on the ground, bandaged with fully bloody leaves and... purplish fur. When we left him, only his face was purple but now his whole body had many shades of violet... This isn't good. So many pokemon around, but they walk past him like he's not even there and no one tried to cure him or simply help him. They probably just didn't have the needed recovering moves but still...
I quickly walked up to him and listened if he was still breathing. Weak, but air was circulating in his jaws. Didn't want to check out his heart, because I was worried that my Poison Point would make things worse.
"We need to do something," I turned back to Venama with pleading eyes. I felt a little guilty that I poisoned him in the morning, but the state he was in now was completely deadly. He needed help immediately.
"Venia, we don't have any healing moves. Or healing berries. What can we possibly do?" she asked like she was mad at me for suggesting such a thing. Or maybe she was mad at herself for not being able to help the puppy pokemon.
"Do we have Pecha berries at home?" I asked, determined to get back home as fast as possible and bring back the berries that would negate this poisoning.
Venama stayed quiet for a minute, as if she was trying to recall what berries we had. "Yeah. I think we do."
"Alright, I'll run back home and get them. You stay here and keep an eye on him," I commanded and ran off. I have never ordered my sister before, but we both knew that I was the faster one now, even with the berries on my back.
But then I heard a terrible screech. A shadow flew around me, representing the flying type in the sky. He sounded *gulp* hungry. The berries probably caught his attention. And I hope he didn't see what's under the berries.
The screeching came closer and the sound of something piercing the wind got louder as well. The pokemon was diving down to his prey.
What do I do?! What do I do?! No bushes around, just trees that will definitely not protect me as the flying type is already near the ground.
*swoosh*
Claws sank into the basket that was still glued to me and... the String Shot didn't give up. I was being carried through the sky. I was... flying.
"Venia!" I heard my sister's screaming and the quiet swooshing of poisonous needles, aiming towards the orange flying type, that got more distant with every passing second. Finally I only heard the incredibly strong wind hitting my face and curving around me and the giant wings flapping above me.
End of the Centipede pokemon.
Continuing in Whirlipede.
