Chapter 48: Say Something, Part 1 – Friday, September 20th, 2013

The next morning, EJ headed into the living room with a folded newspaper under his arm. His phone began to ring, so he answered, "Marco."

"Mr. DiMera. Your wife and children have returned to Salem, and it seems they are heading here now," Marco announced.

EJ ended the call, lowered the phone from his ear, and smiled. He was happy to know Sami, Johnny, and Sydney were coming home. Relaxing at the desk, he took a moment to look over a picture of all of them together and hoped to see all of their smiles when they arrived.

After putting the picture frame down, EJ opened the newspaper to see a surprising headline. Colin's escape from prison had leaked to the press. "This can't be good."

Pulling out his cell again, EJ sent a text to Marco: "Come inside. I need to talk to you about Colin's escape ASAP."

Chad and Kate entered the room from different entryways. Seeing Kate for the first time since the pub the night before, Chad didn't particularly want to talk to her today. Instead, he kept his focus on his brother. "We have a busy day ahead of us," he mentioned.

EJ put the paper down to pull his attention away from the Colin situation. With an infectious smile, he declared, "It's a big day for DiMera Enterprises."

"It's a big day for everyone," Chad corrected his brother.

Kate eyed Chad because she knew he was up to something. She contemplated talking to him in private because she couldn't stop thinking about the strain in their relationship. It didn't feel right anymore.

Everyone in the living room heard the front door open and close. Sami appeared from the foyer. "Good morning," she released with a grin.

Jumping at the chance to talk to his wife, EJ rushed over. "Good morning. What brings you home? Where are the children?"

Sami's heart skipped a beat at the way EJ approached and looked at her. She truly missed him, but she needed to keep her distance. He was too much of a distraction, and she needed to make sure she didn't allow him the chance to change her mind on her plan. Turning her body towards her brother-in-law, she replied, "They're in the car asleep. I'm actually here to talk to Chad."

Chad stepped backwards because he did not trust Sami. "I'm trying to keep things positive today, so I'm not sure if I want to talk to you."

Sami put on her best look of sincerity as she claimed, "I don't have anything negative to say. I only want to know if there are any extra VIP seats for the family. I'm expecting more to arrive for the event."

Questioning what Sami was up to, Chad shared, "I gave Will all the tickets he asked for – including seats for his brother and sisters. Will told me he would give them to Eric to pass out."

Adjusting her plans in her head, Sami stated, "I'll just have Johnny, Sydney, and Allie sit on someone's lap if they go."

Feeling as though he was in the twilight zone, Chad wanted to end this conversation as soon as possible. He forced a smile and claimed for his brother's sake, "I'm glad you will be there."

"Thank you," Sami nodded towards Chad. She then turned around and left without another word. She had to.

EJ couldn't believe Sami walked out without really acknowledging him. He wondered what happened in Chicago and why she was so cold with him. Heading back to his desk, he tried to hide the rejection he felt.

Chad saw right through EJ's mask and approached him. The pep was gone. "Are you going to be okay?"

Minimizing his feelings, EJ waved his hand to Chad and said, "Don't worry about me. Do what you need to do before the concert so that everything goes as perfectly as possible."

Chad knew he needed to leave, but he wanted to say one thing before walking out. Placing his hand on EJ's shoulder, he beamed, "It sucks that father and my mom won't be there, but I'm glad you're the head of the family. Thank you for being so supportive through all of this. I'll see you at the venue."

EJ nodded his head to Chad. It felt good to be appreciated. With Chad gone, he realized he was alone with Kate. "Did you need something?"

Marco entered the side door before Kate could answer. "Mr. DiMera. I apologize for taking so long to come inside."

Seeing that EJ was busy, Kate headed for the foyer and announced, "I need to head to the airport to pick up Lucas, Allie, Billie, Frankie, and Sophie. I will see you at the concert." On her way out, she told herself she needed to find some time before the concert where she could talk to Chad alone.

Now that they were alone, EJ asked Marco, "What's the latest on Colin's escape?"

The doorbell rang interrupting their conversation. "Let me get rid of whoever is out there," Marco said as he headed for the door. When he saw it was Arianna on the other side, he put his confusion to the side and said, "If you're here to stir trouble than you can go."

Arianna walked in and looked Marco over. She could tell he was hurt. "I'm here to talk to EJ."

Before Marco could tell her to leave, EJ walked out into the foyer to tell Marco it was okay. "What do you need, Arianna?"

Crossing her arms, Arianna shared, "I know you hate hearing this, but I am struggling right now because I'm not sure if I can trust you. You said you had no idea that Colin escaped prison even after we found out you visited Colin while he was there. I want to know what you two talked about, and I want specifics."

Marco couldn't believe Arianna was set on doing this. "Once again, you've got it all wrong. Mr. DiMera would never help Colin escape."

Scratching his temple with his finger, EJ stepped in. "As much as I appreciate your belief in me, Marco, I can speak for myself. Do me a favor and check in to see if you can uncover how Colin got out of there."

"Yes, sir," Marco released knowing EJ said that so he would leave them alone. Heading away, he didn't bother saying goodbye to Arianna.

EJ leaned against the wall and crossed his arms over his chest as he assured, "Arianna, I am not the bad guy you believe I am." When Arianna turned away, he became annoyed. "Look at me. We used to be able to trust each other."

Arianna could see that EJ seemed hurt by her questioning him, but she also recognized it was over the top. "Is this about Sami?"

EJ didn't want to talk about Sami even if Arianna had a point. Calming his tone, he uttered, "Well, it's much like how you let your anger out on me because of your relationship with Dario."

"You know nothing about my relationship with Dario," Arianna released becoming defensive.

Pulling his body from the wall, EJ agreed. "You're right. I don't know. What I do know is that you don't like the fact that Dario's a DiMera."

Point to EJ. Releasing a sigh, Arianna knew she couldn't argue with EJ's claim. "Ever since my mother died and Dario found out André was his father, he has changed and become a shell of his true self," she observed as the stress began to take over. "Manny and I have tried numerous times to talk to Dario only to have him push us away further."

"I'm still curious though," EJ released as he looked into the living room debating whether he should get a drink or not. "I'm curious if you believe this is my fault or my family's fault." He didn't let Arianna reply and continued, "I know Dario is still struggling with accepting his sexuality."

Feeling blameless in this area, Arianna shared, "I believe your aunt and Ignazio are at fault on this issue."

EJ gave Arianna a nod to show he heard her. "Yes, of course, that is a possibility because my father struggled with Chad's sexuality because of some old code, but..."

Arianna grew impatient. "But what?"

"But..." EJ began again, "Your mother also had a problem with it if memory serves me correctly."

Isobel. Arianna could picture the things Isobel said to Dario before he died and it made her cringe inside. It was starting to feel like it was too much. "I've tried to help Dario through all of that, but he won't listen. I've got too much on my plate, and I have my issues as well."

"Maybe that is the problem," EJ hypothesized while raising his eyebrows to see if he had Arianna's attention.

"What is the problem?" Arianna followed EJ into the living room and watched him pour himself a glass of water.

EJ motioned his glass towards her to ask her if she wanted some, but she shook her head. Thinking about his own issues with Sami, he continued, "Sometimes we can't help the people we love because we have our own problems to face and we need to fix those before they can come to us. Sometimes our own problems blind us from seeing how big an issue is that they're dealing with, and we try to minimize what they're going through because we desperately need them to be the stronger ones."

Whoa. Arianna felt a door open in her head as her eyes widened. She had an epiphany as she realized how right EJ was. "This entire time, I've talked to Dario and not with Dario. I complain that he's not listening, when I'm the one who isn't listening. I've minimized this issue for him, when it means so much more to him… and you're right, EJ. I do have a lot that I need to fix with myself because I still hold so much pain and guilt from my mother's death. I just need to be honest about that."

Arianna's head continued to spin as EJ reiterated, "You can't force what you think of Dario on him because it will only alienate him."

Thinking of her therapy with Joselyn, Arianna realized this was something Joselyn was trying to help her see as well. She turned to EJ and thanked him. "I have to go." She didn't care about his connection to Colin anymore.

EJ walked Arianna to the door and opened it for her. "I hope you can work things out with your family."

With a nod, Arianna headed out the door while saying, "Good luck with yours."

Closing the door, EJ headed to grab a drink before returning to the desk. He looked at the family photo again reflecting on his relationship with Sami. "I've worked hard on understanding my role in this family. The more confident I feel, the more I am certain things will work out. I need to be more open with Samantha."

Glancing over his shoulder, EJ stared at his father's portrait. "At the same time, I need to remain cautious."

Rushing around his apartment, Will wanted to make sure he had everything he needed before he left. Today was a big day, and he wanted everything to go perfectly. He couldn't believe it was already here.

Casually walking into the main room, Sonny had a bag of chips in his hands. "We have plenty of time to get ready. Just relax."

Will turned to Sonny and watched his roommate chew on a chip rather slowly. Shaking his head, he replied, "You can slack off if you want, but this is important to me because this is what I want to do with my life."

Sonny put the bag of chips on the couch and asked, "Do you want to be next to Chad's side for the rest of your life?"

Aggravated, Will responded, "Stop being a jerk. I thought we were past this."

Sonny remembered Sami claiming she had a plan, but he hadn't heard from her since. He felt as though he needed to step in now. "So you're telling me you don't find it suspicious Chad never delivered the list of songs the band is performing tonight or the fact that we haven't been to a single practice? Has Chad even clued you in on the name of the club yet?"

Showing he could not care less, Will shrugged his shoulders and said, "I'll just find out tonight with the others."

Unamused, Sonny argued, "Chad is the one who brought Josh back for Abigail. He's obviously trying to play matchmaker here because he also brought..." He stopped himself because he didn't want to mention Mathieu to Will. "He brought this whole plan to use you again. Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if Chad named the club after you because he's obviously doing this to get in your pants."

Turning his back to Sonny so he could return to what he was doing, Will instructed, "Just drop it, Sonny."

"We can't trust Chad," Sonny didn't let up. "You've done your job already. You don't need to go to the concert tonight."

Will grabbed his keys from the coffee table and then his bag of things before heading towards the door. He turned to face Sonny one last time. "I'm going, and you're not going to change my mind. If you don't want to go, you don't have to. I'm sure we can find a replacement on the panel tonight."

Hearing Will say that he could be easily replaced, Sonny stepped back and watched as Will headed out and slammed the door. He felt a deep hurt as he questioned once again if he was still Will's friend. "I'm failing here," he said under his breath when he felt his phone vibrate in his pocket.

Mathieu sent him a text message: "Up for a visitor?"

Sonny shook his head and quickly replied: "I've got a busy day ahead of me because of the venue opening. I have to help my friends."

At Maddalena's mansion, Lexie stood near the front door as she looked over the ticket she received for the concert. After pushing her two brothers away, she wasn't sure why they would want her there. She scratched the top of her head and wondered if she should go.

Entering from the dining room, Maddalena looked her niece over and asked, "What are you doing?"

Lexie fanned the ticket and shared, "I'm thinking about the concert tonight. Are you going?" She wanted to remain as casual as possible.

Maddalena shook her head. "No. I told EJ not to bother because I am not a fan of rock concerts. I prefer classical and romantic music." Taking the ticket from Lexie to look it over, she urged, "You should go. Some time out of the house will do you some good."

Lexie still wasn't sure if she should go. She noted Maddalena had her purse in her hand. "Where are you off to?"

Making sure she had everything she needed in her purse, Maddalena answered, "I am finally going to the doctor to get checked out."

There was a lot about Maddalena Lexie still questioned, and she believed going to the doctor would be a good thing. "I'm glad you're getting checked out."

Heading for the door, Maddalena gave Lexie a smile and promised, "I will let you know what the doctor says."

Standing at the top of the stairs, Alessandro watched as Maddalena exited the mansion. He wondered why his grandmother needed to go to the hospital. He quickly hid before Lexie could see him and pulled out his phone to send a text to Ignazio about it.

Standing outside of the bathrooms at the Salem airport, Rex looked over the pieces of luggage to make sure they were all there. It was weird being in Salem. He would have to see so many familiar faces – people he hadn't talked to in some time. There were a few he'd rather not see.

Rex looked up from the luggage and freaked out when he saw Lucas and Billie grabbing their luggage in baggage claim. Frankie, Allie, and another woman were also there, but his concern wasn't with them. He didn't want Lucas or Billie to see him.

Cassie walked out of the women's bathroom and noted the weird look on her brother's face. "You're still apprehensive about coming back to Salem," she assumed. "Let me tell you..." She slightly rolled her eyes. "I'm right there with you."

Rex pulled Cassie closer and warned, "We need to make sure we're not seen." He motioned his head so Cassie could see who he saw.

Covering her mouth, Cassie couldn't believe they arrived to the airport at the same time as Billie and Lucas. "It's already starting," she commented.

After helping Allie with her luggage, Lucas went over and grabbed his and Sophie's suitcase. Sophie looked the place over and said, "It's been a long time since I've been to Salem."

Frankie kind of wished he could say the same. "Billie insisted we come back, but I told her we're heading back as soon as the concert is over."

Billie gave Frankie an annoyed look because she didn't want to come back for the concert. She wanted to help her mom figure things out with Joselyn and Ignazio. Deciding to avoid another argument with her fiancé, she turned to her brother and said, "It will be good to see everyone tonight."

Making sure they had everything, Lucas smiled and said, "I'm just happy to see Will, and I know Allie is happy to see all of her siblings." He hoped Will managed to keep things strictly professional with Chad.

Billie adjusted her purse and asked, "Is mom out there yet to pick us up?"

Lucas looked at his phone and saw he had a text message from Kate. "She's waiting outside. She seems to be in a hurry."

Cassie and Rex watched as the others headed out the sliding doors. She turned to Rex and said, "I'm going to text Sami to let her know all three of us have arrived safely and that we're heading to the hotel to get ready for tonight."

Rex nodded his head. He couldn't believe they were in Salem. This was definitely weird.

Nicole and Jack arrived to the Kiriakis mansion. Rolling her eyes when they reached the front door, Nicole softly complained, "This investigation is leading me everywhere I don't want to go. After what happened last night, I am not sure I want to be here."

Jack couldn't believe what Nicole went through the night before, but he needed her focused on what they were doing now. "We'll talk to Marco tonight to see if he can help us in identifying your stalker." Ringing the doorbell, he turned to Nicole to make sure she was up for this. "Did something happen between you and Brady?"

Nicole shook her head and complained, "Brady is brainless and doesn't know a good thing when he sees it. He's also blind to people trying to pull something over on him. He should apply for a job at the Salem Police Department."

Suddenly, the front door opened. Brady was on the other side. "This is unexpected. What are you two doing here?"

Seeing Brady, Nicole's demeanor completely changed. She was almost too sweet. "Hey Brady. We're here to talk to Manny. We have a scheduled interview with him today."

Suspicious of Nicole's open and welcome attitude towards him, Brady didn't let Nicole and Jack in. "What's really going on here?" He didn't hide the fact that he didn't trust them.

Jack gave Nicole a disappointed look before attempting to salvage this. "Brady, we need to talk to Manny about an investigation we are conducting."

"Investigation?" Brady questioned before claiming, "Manny is working security somewhere so he's busy."

Jack put his hand up as if he were swearing on the Bible in court. "I promise it will only take a second as it's just a few follow-up questions."

Brady sighed heavily because he knew Jack. Jack never gave up. Finally moving out of the way, he motioned Nicole and Jack inside but told them to wait in the foyer. "I'll go find him for you."

After Brady left, Jack turned on Nicole. "How well do you know Brady because he could see your fakeness from a mile away?"

Nicole gritted her teeth because she knew she messed up. After what happened the night before, she was off her game. "I panicked because I feared he overheard what I said before answering the door."

Disappointed, Jack replied, "That still doesn't make sense."

Manny abruptly entered the foyer alone and rushed them out of the house. "Why are you here?" He was paranoid because of what he found the night before and didn't want Victor to find out they were there.

Getting straight to business, Jack shared, "Nicole and I talked to Colin's mom, and she hasn't talked to him in years. So that leaves us wondering... If you didn't lie to us, who could Colin be talking to that he'd consider the person his mother?"

Manny glanced to the side for a moment. "I didn't lie, but I'm not sure who Colin could have talked to instead." Fearing someone would see him talking to them, he claimed, "I can't help you anymore. I need to get back to work."

Reading Manny's body language, Nicole stopped him and said, "Something is off about you. What happened? Did someone threaten you?"

Manny knew better than to answer any of Nicole's questions. "If I don't get back to work, my job may be threatened," he exclaimed before heading inside.

Outside of the entrance gate of the Kiriakis mansion, Jennifer watched as Jack and Nicole returned to his car. She wondered why they needed to talk to Manny. "What does Manny Hernandez have to do with Abe's death?" she asked herself as a memory came to her. Gabi had told her recently she believed Manny had lost himself in something. Was this it? Hiding in her car until Jack and Nicole drove off, Jen was determined and committed to finding this out.

Back at Maddalena's mansion, Dario entered feeling more positive about the day. He hoped to talk with his grandmother about the concert since Ignazio told him Maddalena didn't plan on attending. Instead of finding Maddalena, he found Lexie standing alone next to the fireplace. "Excuse me, Lexie. Is my nonna around?"

Lexie crossed over to pour herself a glass of water. "She's at an appointment at the hospital."

Concerned, Dario asked, "Is everything okay?"

Taking a sip of her water, Lexie admitted, "I'm not sure."

Spotting the concert ticket on the coffee table, Dario questioned, "Is that your ticket?" After Lexie confirmed it with a nod, Dario said through a smile, "I think you'll enjoy the show."

Lexie had already festered in the darkness in her life and couldn't help but be annoyed with Dario's joyous attitude. "How can you be so sure I'll enjoy the show?" she berated him.

Thrown by Lexie's attitude, Dario shared, "Chad put a lot of work into this. He and Will did."

Hearing the fact that Chad and Will did something together, Lexie found herself wanting to smile, but she stopped herself. She finished her water and headed for Dario. "Knowing my brother, he will most likely ruin it all anyway. Chad is incapable of sticking with something that is good."

Dario didn't understand the hostility between Chad and Lexie. Attempting to help her with it, he asked, "Are you still upset about him leaving?"

"You weren't as close to Chad as I was then," Lexie argued. "Chad will abandon you, too."

Dario tried not to let what Lexie said bother him. He kept his distance. "Do you feel abandoned by Abe?"

Abe. Hearing her late husband's name caused Lexie to think about him. Before her feelings could enter her mind, she quickly released a soft, "Stop."

"Stop?" Dario questioned with some confusion.

Lexie had to close her eyes to stop herself from going any further. When she opened her eyes again, she glared at Dario to let him know he had upset her. "What do you know about losing someone you thought you would have more time with?" she lashed out.

Lexie was getting to him now. Dario moved in closer and reminded her, "I lost my mother, and I wasn't around to say goodbye before she died!"

Stepping back, Lexie realized her mistake. She remembered how she got to say goodbye to Abe. "Stop," she released again, but it was more obvious she was talking to herself this time. Abe was really trying to enter her thoughts and she couldn't allow it to happen. She was tired from all of it.

Realizing Dario was causing her to think about Abe, Lexie told herself she was not ready to finish grieving Abe, and she needed to stop her brain from going there. "Dario, why are you still here? I told you Maddalena is not home."

Feeling less positive, Dario sighed and explained, "I hoped I could talk Maddalena into going to the concert. I need her there because my mother cannot be. I was hoping for some encouraging words from her since my mother is dead." Dario shook his head in humiliation and then admitted, "If my mom was there, I know what she would say."

Lexie noted Dario was in a dark place. It was her fault. She put him there. "What would your mother say?"

Dario continued to shake his head. "She would condemn me for what I am doing, thinking, and feeling. She would call me a disappointment."

Lexie found herself getting emotional by Dario's answer. "Do you really believe your mother would do – say that?"

Looking directly into Lexie's eyes, Dario communicated so much pain through his very sad and tormented eyes. He also verbally shared, "That's the message I got from her before she died." He turned away. "I need to go. If you see Maddalena, please urge her come."

"I will," Lexie agreed as she walked Dario to the door. She was clearly affected by what he said about his mother.

Alessandro was about to come out of the dining room but quickly turned around when he saw Dario there. "Not yet," he whispered to himself.

After Dario left, Lexie headed upstairs to her son's room. She found Theo playing with some of his toys. Going over to him, tears welled in her eyes as she wondered if Theo would believe the same about her with the way she pushed him to the side.

Lexie took a seat on the corner of the bed closest to Theo to watch him play. She felt nothing when she was around him now, and the fact bothered her very much.

Theo finally turned to Lexie and said, "Mom." Standing, he walked over to her and placed his hand on her face to catch her tears.

Lexie suddenly saw a glimpse of Abe smiling at her. She jerked away from Theo and pointed at him. "Stay away from me!" she exclaimed as different emotions tried to enter from her broken heart. "Stop! I don't want to remember anymore!"

Returning to his toys, Theo began to play again like nothing happened, but he repeated the same pattern as if he was stuck in a loop waiting for something to change.

In Azzura's bedroom, Azzura walked out of her bathroom and went for the brown paper bag that Lexie gave her. Pulling out the pregnancy test, she looked it over. She wondered if she should take it.

Maxine stopped Cameron when he walked out of the lab. "Hey son. Are you going to the concert tonight?"

Cameron nodded his head. "Kai and I managed to get tickets from Kai's friend Brett."

Grinning, Maxine patted Cameron on the chest. "I think it's great you're being social and have friends."

With a nod, Cameron told his mom he would see her later. He headed for the nurse's station and found Chelsea signing paperwork. "Hey, Chelsea. Are you going to the concert?"

"I am," Chelsea answered. "I'm going with my boyfriend." Lifting her head, she spotted Ignazio walking out of one of the rooms. "I'll see you later."

Cameron watched as Chelsea walked off. He crossed his arms over his chest when he suddenly heard someone say his name behind him. Turning around, he saw Brian. "Hey. I was just about to check on you," he divulged. Placing his hand on Brian's back, he led him away.

Catching up with Ignazio, Chelsea showed concern on her face as she asked, "What are you doing here? Did something happen?"

Ignazio gave Chelsea a look of uncertainty. "I'm here because my nonna decided to check on her health. She hasn't seen anyone since Colin was arrested because she struggled trusting another doctor after everything that happened with him."

Chelsea nodded her head because she understood. "Did everything come up clear?"

"We haven't gotten the results back," Ignazio replied. He looked at his phone because Alessandro continually asked for updates.

Sensing something was really bothering Ignazio, Chelsea said, "I hope it's all good news," before giving him a hug.

Ignazio struggled with how sweet Chelsea could be to him. With his mouth next to her ear, he whispered, "I don't deserve your support."

Stepping back, Chelsea questioned, "Why do you keep saying that?"

In a vulnerable moment, Ignazio looked down in shame. "There's something I need to tell you. You will look at me differently."

Chelsea placed her hand on Ignazio's shoulder to encourage him. "Just tell me, Ignazio."

Ignazio turned his head to the side because he could feel the words coming to his mouth. He felt sick to his stomach. "I was the one who called the ethics board, which led to you almost losing your license to practice," he confessed.

Taking her hand way, Chelsea gave Ignazio a confused look. At first, she wasn't exactly sure she heard correctly. It had to sink in. "What? Why? Why would you do that?"

Ignazio couldn't even look Chelsea in her eyes. He knew she was upset because she wasn't touching him anymore. "I did it because I wanted to make sure you didn't leave Salem. From the moment I saw you, I knew I wanted you to be mine."

Chelsea stepped backwards because she felt overwhelmed by the hurt and betrayal. "I am so disappointed in you. I can't… I can't believe…"

Ignazio finally looked up and tried to reach out to Chelsea. "I am so sorry."

Chelsea didn't allow it. "I need space," she shared before walking away.

In her hospital room, Maddalena decided to call Tony while she waited for Dr. Davis to return with her test results. When he answered, she asked, "Is it true?"

"Is what true," Tony played clueless.

Impatient, Maddalena demanded, "Give me respect!"

After an audible sigh, Tony admitted, "I am in Chicago following up on your lead on Anna. Don't worry, I haven't been seen."

Upset, Maddalena replied, "I need you focused in Italia. I cannot afford for anything to fail at this point!" With all the rage and disappointment built up, Maddalena began to cough continuously. She couldn't stop until she fainted onto the floor. Tony's voice could be heard coming through the phone.

After checking on some preliminary things at the venue, Chad arrived at Grace's tombstone with flowers. After putting them down, he took a few breaths because it felt like forever since he had been there. "Hey Grace. I'm so sorry for not visiting as often as I should, but I promise I will be here more often to make sure you're never forgotten. Daddy has a big day ahead of him, and I hope that wherever you are you're smiling on me and sending good, positive – hopeful – vibes. I hope I can get back the love of my life – the one I want to spend the rest of my life with." Unsure of what else to say, Chad lamented, "I wish you could be here with me physically."

Standing in silence, Chad wished he could hear Grace laugh or say something. It sucked that he was robbed of ever knowing her. Wishing his mother could be there as well, he looked in the direction of Madeline's tombstone and saw someone standing in front of her grave. Curious, he walked over and was surprised to find Kate there. "What are you doing?"

Kate kept her eyes on Madeline's tombstone and answered, "I was just talking to your mother about old times." She released a small laugh, but then wiped tears from her face. Turning to Chad, she showed a softer side – the one she tried to avoid showing him before. "Chad, I know we have our differences when it comes to Will. I should be mad at you because I know you and Will stayed the night together at DiMera Enterprises after Will promised it wouldn't happen, but I'm not because I care about you, too." Kate ran her fingers across her necklace before adding, "I want to be there for you."

Chad couldn't believe what was happening. This was the last thing he expected to happen today, but a warmness filled him and he wondered if Grace and his mother played a part in this happening. "Thank you," he released. Before he could say any more, he got a text.

Chad pulled his phone out of his pocket and saw he received a text from Brian. It read: "I hate to do this, but I won't be able to make it to the concert because my dad is in the hospital from that major car accident last night."

Panic filled Chad as he looked up to Kate. "I have to go." He rushed towards his car. This wasn't happening. He hoped Dr. Kahn was okay.
