Friday night and boy am I happy for the weekend to begin! I'm in the bullpen fixing my ponytail as I wait for Melissa to come back from the locker room and Nell to come down from Ops. Nell said she was just going to check on Eric after today. Melissa took a dive into a water fountain and gave poor Eric a heart attack. She joked at least she didn't need a shower but she was thoroughly soaked. My hair fixed I grab my leather jacket from the back of my chair and put it on. I've stuck with my trusted jeans and top.
'So you girls off anywhere nice?' Deeks asks from his desk as he starts to pack up to go home.
'Melissa's local.' I answer him.
'The White Lion?' Callen asks looking up from his paperwork.
'You know it?' I ask. That surprised me, Callen knows the name of Melissa's local.
'He rescued Melissa from there before.' Eric comments as he and Nell appear in the bullpen entrance. Nell is in a long beige top and black leggings to go out teamed with a pair of boots.
'G rescued Melissa when?' Sam takes an interest and Nell shrugs as I look at her for an explanation.
'Like a month ago when Nick was giving her hassle.' Eric continues and we all look at Callen who shrugs. I notice Deeks smile as Callen shuffles awkwardly in his seat. This topic of conversation just got interesting.
'Nick was giving Mels trouble?' Sam looks at Callen with a look of disbelief.
'Sorry!' Eric apologises as Callen sits up and simply looks at him.
'What sort of trouble? G, why did you not tell me?' Sam continues.
'I dealt with it and I didn't think Melissa would appreciate everyone knowing.'
'Everyone knowing what G?' Melissa appears behind him mid-sentence. She's got changed from her joggers and t-shirt into a black dress with red poppies on it I notice as she moves past the desks to her seat. She's changed her shoes to some flats. We all look away as she grabs her bag but no-one answers her question. What does Eric mean by Nick causing trouble? Why is Callen clamming up now Melissa has appeared and what is he not telling us?
'Nick.' Sam states.
'What did you say?' Melissa rounds in on Callen pulling her bag over her shoulder as he put his hands up and points to Eric.
'It wasn't me. Eric started the questions off.'
'You know what it doesn't matter. I want to go out and have a laugh so come on you two let's get out of here.' Melissa looks at me and Nell and motions for us to leave with a smile as she passes both Eric and Nell before anyone can respond.
'You're right I need a drink.' I reply as I join Nell at the bullpen entrance and we all head out.
'Have fun.' Eric tells Nell.
'Don't go talking to strangers.' Sam shouts towards Melissa.
'Fully grown woman Sam!' Melissa retorts.
Let's go girls! Come on.
I'm going out tonight-I'm feelin' alright
Gonna let it all hang out
Wanna make some noise-really raise my voice
Yeah, I wanna scream and shout
No inhibitions-make no conditions
Get a little outta line
I ain't gonna act politically correct
I only wanna have a good time
The best thing about being a woman
Is the prerogative to have a little fun
Oh, oh, oh, go totally crazy-forget I'm a lady
Men's shirts-short skirts
Oh, oh, oh, really go wild-yeah, doin' it in style
Oh, oh, oh, get in the action-feel the attraction
Color my hair-do what I dare
Oh, oh, oh, I wanna be free-yeah, to feel the way I feel
Man! I feel like a woman!
We all get into my car and head off. Melissa is suspiciously quiet as Nell turns down the music. It's the first time we've been out for a while. Last time we went out didn't end too well for Melissa. Callen punched some guy who couldn't take a hint and Melissa ended up at the hospital with the guy and turned up at work the following day like a zombie as she had only gotten two hours sleep. Of course Deeks had assumed she had pulled and grilled her until she finally snapped and explained the sorry situation. I felt responsible after all it was me and Nell who had dragged her out but our intentions had been good.
'So Callen didn't tell us how Nick caused trouble?' Nell looks back at Melissa who's sat in the backseat.
'Didn't he?'
'No. Did Nick try it on? Callen said he was your ex before.' I ask.
'Pretty much and I probably would have killed him if Callen hadn't shown up when he did.'
'Really that bad?'
'Yeah like Deeks flirting bad.' Melissa jokes trying to get some humour in her voice but failing when she makes a face that I notice in the rear view mirror.
'Ouch.' Nell laughs.
'Yeah I'm just glad Callen came when he did. Anyway what's the plan for tonight how are you guys getting home?'
'Eric is gonna pick me up.' Nell smiles
'Deeks.'
'You're welcome to park the car in my driveway overnight then Kens if you want? You guys have lifts.' Melissa notifies me as we pull into her drive and I shut off the engine.
'You sure?'
'Yeah, well I'm not going to need the driveway tonight am I?'
'Fair point.' I laugh as we all get out of the car and walk just down the street and round the corner onto the street and walk into Melissa's local.
The girls need a break-tonight we're gonna take
The chance to get out on the town
We don't need romance-we only wanna dance
We're gonna let our hair hang down
The best thing about being a woman
Is the prerogative to have a little fun
Oh, oh, oh, go totally crazy-forget I'm a lady
Men's shirts-short skirts
Oh, oh, oh, really go wild-yeah, doin' it in style
Oh, oh, oh, get in the action-feel the attraction
Color my hair-do what I dare
Oh, oh, oh, I wanna be free-yeah, to feel the way I feel
Man! I feel like a woman!
Melissa heads straight to the bar and orders our drinks in as Nell and I sit in the snug. The barman smiles as he notices her and they start to chat as he prepares our drinks. The snug is close enough for us to hear their conversation. I sit close enough to watch the door too. Now the guys know where we are I'm expecting that Callen, Eric and Deeks will make an impromptu visit. I know Deeks has been suspiciously quiet considering Eric refused to go surfing with him tonight. Deeks hasn't stopped texting.
'What you having?' The bartender asks a little too enthusiastically.
'JD on the rocks, WKD Blue and my usual please?'
'See you brought your friends?' The barman looks over at us and waves. Nell smiles back.
'Yeah girls night.'
'Your guy friend with you tonight?' I notice he emphasises the phrase guy friend and I wonder who he means. Surely he doesn't mean Callen? He almost sounded a little jealous there. Melissa didn't seem to notice though.
'Nope and why do you say guy friend like that Cole?' Melissa stands up a little straighter and I notice the bartender take a step back and then Mel punches him in the arm jokingly. I didn't notice how they acted with each other last time. Nell is also looking.
'No reason.' Cole answers as he puts the drinks in front of her.
'Right Cole… If you mean G no he's not with us tonight.'
'So the effort's not for him then? He's been in a few times recently.'
'The effort is for me.' She answers starting back towards the table.
'You look gorgeous!' Cole states smirking as she walks back over to us with a smile. Melissa joins us at the table and passes Nell her drink and then mine to me before taking a sip of her own. Nell and I trade glances which Melissa obviously picks up as she puts down her drink and sits back. Nell is smiling and quickly winks in my direction.
'You two are quiet?'
'So the bartender was flirting.' Nell finally speaks.
'Cole? Didn't notice.'
'You noticed Mels. Cole also seemed a little jealous of Callen when he asked if he was joining us.'
'You were listening?'
'Hard not to. The topic was interesting.' Nell jokes. 'Why did he ask if Callen was joining us?'
'Because I've not been in since our last trip here and that was the whole Nick situation.' Melissa answers.
'Oh but Callen has?' Nell presses.
'So Cole tells me.' Melissa rolls her eyes. I try not to laugh but find myself laughing seconds later. Nell joins in and then so does Mel. 'I needed this…'
'Needed what Mels?' Nell asks.
'A girls night, the teasing and the company.' Melissa shrugs as a guy stops at the end of the snug and greets us. He's looking at Melissa interested, 5"9 with brown hair and hazel eyes in a blue shirt and jeans. He's quite cute, well built. Nell sits forward and rests her chin on her arm.
'Sorry to interrupt but could I get a dance?' He asks Mels.
'But there's no music.' Melissa remarks embarrassed as Nell scoots over towards me and nudging my shoulder as Melissa stands up. Callen and Deeks just arrived I notice looking where Nell is subtly pointing and they've noticed Melissa and the guy who's starting to talk to her. Deeks is quick to point and wink. I motion for him to stay there making sure neither Melissa or the guy notices. Nell is quick to start a text over to Deeks to make sure.
The best thing about being a woman
Is the prerogative to have a little fun (fun, fun)
Oh, oh, oh, go totally crazy-forget I'm a lady
Men's shirts-short skirts
Oh, oh, oh, really go wild-yeah, doin' it in style
Oh, oh, oh, get in the action-feel the attraction
Color my hair-do what I dare
Oh, oh, oh, I wanna be free-yeah, to feel the way I feel
Man! I feel like a woman!
I get totally crazy
Can you feel it
Come, come, come on baby
I feel like a woman
'Cole told me you don't dance.' The guy shrugs.
'Did he now?' Melissa answers unamused looking over at the bar.
'So I could get a dance or get you a refill?' The guy doesn't give up.
'I'm sorry but it's a girls night.' Melissa smiles as she motions towards me and Nell at the table. Deeks and Callen are walking over and Cole watches interested. Melissa hasn't realised they are here. Callen is looking the guy up and down. He doesn't seem amused by the attention Melissa is receiving.
'I'm sure your friends won't mind?'
'No.'
'Maybe I can get your number then?'
'Ummm….'
'Here.' I pass him a slip of paper with a made up number on in attempt to get rid of him as I sense the embarrassment building. Melissa is shuffling on her feet uncomfortably and if this carries on Callen and Deeks will be over here by the time the guy has gone. The guy inspects the piece of paper then smiles as he reads the made up number and then leaves. He passes Deeks and Callen as he leaves the bar. Deeks pretends not to notice him but Callen doesn't look away from Melissa. Melissa is quick to sit back and down and breathes loudly in relief. She's quick to rest her head in her hands on the table.
'Thought he would never leave.' Nell laughs. Melissa shakes her head.
'There's no such thing as a quiet drink anymore. I'm going to become a recluse.'
'Quiet drinks are overrated.' Deeks comments as he and Callen reach our table. Callen is quick to sit down next to Melissa and put his arm over her shoulder.
'Hi guys.' Nell greets them.
'Hey! How long have you guys been here?' Melissa asks obliviously. I see Callen debating with himself whether to answer.
'Long enough to see you get some attention from a certain hot guy who just left.' Deeks teases.
'Just stop.' Melissa warns him as she shrugs Callen's arm from her shoulder uncomfortably.
'Did he get your number?' Deeks pushes his luck with a smirk. He's good at that especially with me. Melissa quickly stands up.
'I gave him a fake.' I answer him. I can tell Melissa is getting tired of the topic of conversation and Callen looks as if he may just get involved too.
'I'm done.' Melissa downs her drink and motions for Callen to let her leave. 'I'm tired. I'll see you guys in work tomorrow.'
I watch as Melissa leaves and Callen can only watch as Nell, Deeks and I look at each other worried. Callen reluctantly sits back down as she disappears from sight.
'So our girls been having fun?' Deeks smiles as he sits down next to me with a smile.
'Depends on who you ask.'
