Bad News

Beau unlocked the door of a house and stepped aside, smiling. "After you."

Suspicious, Camille went inside. "Who owns the house?"

"I rented it for a while," he said, locking the door. He led her down the hall to one of the back rooms. He opened the door and turned on the light. "Your room."

Camille looked around. A bed, a few shelves, a closet. There was no window. But the floor was carpeted and there was a TV in a corner. Confused, she turned to Beau, who understood her confusion. "The carpet and the TV were Jay's idea. He wanted you to feel good in spite of everything." He rolled his eyes. Exhausted, she sat down on the bed. She just wanted to be alone. Beau seemed to feel that and was about to leave when something else occurred to him, "Oh, your cell phone. Give it to me."

A shock ran through her body. She hadn't thought of her cell phone! But then she remembered that she had turned her cell phone off before the movie, so it wouldn't bother. Had Logan already tried to call her? Dejected, she handed Beau her cell phone. He smiled. "Turned off? Smart."

Camille just looked at him coldly.

"Well, I wish you a good night. And if you can't fall asleep, think of your boyfriend, who's probably getting the bad news right now." He laughed and closed the door. Camille stared after him. At the thought of Logan, she was sick with fear. She hoped he would get through it.

"Logan's not coming out of his room today, is he?" James asked. Kendall shook his head. "He's waiting for Camille to call him."

"Oh, yes, it's their second anniversary today," Carlos said. There was a knock on the door. When Mrs. Knight opened, she was surprised. Two policemen stood in front of her.

"Good day. Are you Mrs. Knight?"

"Yes. How can I help you?"

"My name is Officer Baker and this is my partner Officer Johnson," one of the policemen said, pointing to himself and his colleague.

"May we come in?" Johnson asked. Mrs. Knight nodded and led them inside. When Kendall saw them, he jumped up. "Hold on, I know you! You are the two who arrested Logan. What do you want from him now? He didn't do anything!"

"We know this. Still, we have to talk to him. It's important," Baker said. Kendall rolled his eyes and went to his room. He opened the door and entered. Logan stood at the window. Kendall cleared his throat and he turned around. "Hey, Kendall. What's up?"

"Did she call you?"

"No."

Kendall nodded. "There's someone in the living room who wants to talk to you."

Logan sighed and followed Kendall out. When he saw the policemen, he flinched. Officer Baker looked at him calmly. "Hello, Mr. Mitchell."

Logan glared at him. The memory of how Baker had treated him was still fresh. Obviously, Johnson noticed that too, because he took over the conversation, "Mr. Mitchell, we have bad news for you. Maybe you prefer to sit down."

Logan shook his head. "What news?" His hands clenched into fists, and he felt Kendall put a hand on his shoulder. Johnson sighed. "We got a call from our French colleagues an hour ago. They told us that your girlfriend, Camille Roberts, was abducted and-" Before the officer could finish the sentence, Logan had fainted ...
